The anime starts of with a male character that's in middle school/high school, (if I remember correctly, the main character was walking down some stairs with his friends) The main char...

Q: Why doesn't Zelda pull out the Master Sword herself?

sluos eop eht taefedWhy doesn't Zelda pull out the Master Sword herself? Yes, I know knight saving princess is a common trope, but Zelda is a magic-wielding princess who can gain a bow and arrows made from the light of the gods. So why can't Zelda pull out the Master Sword?

Q: In HPSS, why didn't Harry give Ron a Christmas present?

chb-wizardIn HPP/SS, why didn't Harry get Ron a Christmas present? Although I don't have the exact quotes right now, Hagrid says that the money Harry takes out of his Gringotts vault was enough for "a couple of terms". If it was enough for more than one term, surely Harry had enough for a present for Ron? ...

Q: Why was the Sorcerer's Stone in Gringotts in the first place?

TheMadHatterThe stone belonged to Nicolas Flamel who lived in Paris. Why did it have to be kept in Gringotts? Flamel had obviously kept the stone with him all along. Why did the stone have to be stored in Gringotts in the first place?

Q: Cartoon about a boy who jumps forward through his life by pulling some string on a ball

Ramesh NarayananI am writing this from a vague memory but the overall theme of the cartoon I remember very well. It aired before 2000 but definitely after 1985. It's a cartoon about a boy who is given a ball or something with a piece of string sticking out from it by an old lady. This boy who is supposed to go ...

@Jenayah Not sure

It depends on how the "live in manga world" thing works but it's ambiguous enough it should be on topic I think

@TheLethalCarrot until proven otherwise I guess

Even then it would still likely be on topic, say if it was just a dream

Q: Are works that may or may not just be dreams on topic?

phantom42The question Is Ramona Flowers from Scott Pilgrim vs the World is a symbol? was recently closed with the reason of unclear what you're asking. The question is unclear, so the final close reason makes sense, but John O stated that he voted to closed it for a different reason. This question ap...

@TheLethalCarrot I haven't read the question in full yet, so I will assume the 'live in manga world' thing isn't what I thought it meant
I can't brain yet today, and may not be able to until tomorrow

I can rarely brain

braining is so passé

11:56 AM
@TheLethalCarrot I personally do not consider such a work to be SFF and I would never read/watch it.

12:07 PM
I think it depends on the work, for example, Alice in Wonderland is a dream world if I'm remembering correctly but I would say it's SFF-nal

@Donald.McLean would you not read/watch because you don't consider it SFF or for other reasons?
I enjoyed the movie, partly because I found it easy to watch

Q: Trying to find a Horror book involving a book that when read the reader believes they are a character in that book

Daniel BurkeI remember it having a three word title that is the same as the above mentioned book; the cover of the first book was a Jester. I cannot remember an author or publication date but it was after 2010 as far as I believe; it was a part of a trilogy.

Q: We're switching to CommonMark

Ham VockeI’m Ham and I’m a developer on the Teams team here at Stack Overflow. Over the past few months, I’ve been heads down working on the way we turn Markdown into HTML when writing and editing posts across the network. I’d love to share what I’ve come up with. In a nutshell: We’re planning to use Com...

Hopefully they don't mess up a lot of posts

@TheLethalCarrot "Automatically editing and re-rendering all posts across the network that are not CommonMark-compliant"

Yeah that's what I'm worried about
Also I prefer not having to put > on each empty line in a quote, just looks nicer to me so that's annoying when writing posts :P

if they could automate it for us, that'd be great
Do you think we need a meta post, warning people?
And/or how we plan to fix issues?

Meta post might be nice but we don't know when they plan to look at SFF yet
How do we plan to fix issues? Barring just seeing them when we come across them I doubt there's any way
I did an announcement when GRRM's blog changed URLs I don't see the harm in announcing the markdown change on SFF either... let everyone know who might not check main meta

Let wait and see if there's issues
@TheLethalCarrot If it ended up being widespread we could do as you did with the URLs

I suppose, would probably have to use SEDE to track issues though
@AncientSwordRage Can I just say, whilst I know others don't necessarily agree with me on this, I really appreciate you upping your activity on the site and especially your public stuff :)

Braining is hard, they should have a system in place from like the years 3-18, minimum, that helps people brain

@TheLethalCarrot My brain likes to split itself about a bit too much

@AncientSwordRage I have a set of inspirational quotes for times like these.
"It'll all end in tears, I know it!" -- Eddie the shipboard computer, The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy

@DavidW heh

@AncientSwordRage I don't consider it to be SFF, but mostly I just think it's a stupid plot device.
I hate it so much that I talked about it in a blog post: marylanddreamweavers.wordpress.com/2012/03/23/…

> Tiffany sighed. "And then she woke up and it was all a dream."
It was the worst ending you could have to any story.

Q: The discrepancy between Thunderbolt Ross's and Rulk's hair colour

Satyajit SenWhy is Rulk's hair that of a young person's when Ross's hair is that of an old person's?

@Donald.McLean thats fair enough

@DavidW Exactly! That's the only serious problem I have with the Wizard of Oz movie, especially since the books are all in-universe real.

Are spoiler tags part of CommonMark?

Spoilers are SE's own implementation I believe
Spoiler syntax is going to remain the same - although it's not part of the CommonMark specification. — Ham Vocke ♦ 2 hours ago

Does this mean if we want the ask question customisation we need to re-status-review it?

@TheLethalCarrot I don't thnk so

I thought I saw someone ask a question about it in that post or one of the related ones but I can't find it now

@TheLethalCarrot Ah ok, We've spoken to a CM before the first linked post (the one on meta SE) and we've not had an indication otherwise

Okay fair enough, hopefully they get to it at some point then :)

Q: Wouldn't carpets be a nuisance on starships?

Sovereign InquiryIn Star Trek, we have always seen carpets on the floor on the very first Enterprise, Enterprise refit, Enterprise A-E, Voyager, Deep Space Nine, and even the Delta Flyer, as well as a uniformly dominant number of other ship classes in the Federation. In the newer series, however, such as Discover...

CaptainRex5620Is it possible to create the D77-TC Pelican in real life? Please give me some details about some things I can try. My theory is the V-22 Osprey can be redesigned to look like a Halo D77-TC Pelican Dropship. If my theory is wrong or bad please let me know.

Q: YA fiction about a pandemic (1990s-2000s) set in a UK new town

MonovoxI remember many years ago reading a YA novel about an epidemic or pandemic and the search for a cure. Q: What is a review in Science Fiction and Fantasy?

Sovereign InquiryWhat is writing a review on SFF:SE? I'm not sure why, but there's a new icon in the top , along with the inbox, reputation, help, and "other sites" icon. It has "queues" for reviews and other things. What are these reviews for?

I don't think that should be closed as a duplicate of a question specifically about reviewing Suggested Edits.

Q: Story where (deceased? frozen?) people are used as means of propulsion

Peter - Reinstate MonicaI recall a story (or perhaps the memory is from a book?) where a spaceship accelerated by jettisoning human bodies at high speeds. @TheLethalCarrot How about to reopen?
I even wondered about closing it the other way. But surely "what's review" is a useful general question to have on the site meta (useful enough to be a FAQ on main meta, after all).

Yeah I voted to reopen now. The “dupe” is solely about suggested edits, if anything, as you said, it should be closed the other way around

Surely that's too broad?
