@Jenayah I didn't realize you could move up and down.

that comes in handy

Time to start over...

I keep killing my penguin :/ santatracker.google.com/penguindash.html

How are you supposed to know which things you're supposed to avoid?

Why does that penguin even drown... I'm 70% sure penguins don't work like that
@Alex bump into them for science
but mines = bad, bird = bad, boulder= bad, rest seemed okay

12:03 AM

not bad
try the penguin :D
I think I found a technique

What's the penguin?

To avoid your penguin going too fast and drifting into the water, I slow it down by thrusting it into rocks
that's how it's supposed to be done, isn't it? xD

Oh, different game.
I'm....... really bad at the penguin one.

Why does that penguin even drown... I'm 70% sure penguins don't work like that
but seriously, throw the penguin into rocks, it'll slow it down and prevent it from drowning
not sure PETA approves though

12:08 AM
@Jenayah I keep on getting stuck in the rocks.

At least rocks don't kill you :/

I just bounced off a tree and flew backwards into the water and drowned.

These penguins are broken

The directional keys are unintuitive.

Who, in all honesty, thought it'd be a GREAT idea to put a ducking rock right after two accelerator tiles
It's a crash-test penguin at this point

12:14 AM
I thought you liked rocks?

Well I don't like them anymore
Note to self: the penguin can fall into gaps narrow than it
Note to self: don't bother checking whether the white icy tiles in the water are walkable; they aren't

@Jenayah 17,386

congrts!

The bad guys take off a lot of points as you progress levels.
I lost almost 3,000 in one shot.

Who put moving tiles between accelerator tiles?!
oh they take points too?

12:22 AM
Yup.

I thought they only slowed you down, will have to be more careful
Crap, I had so much momentum when I drowned, I passed the finish line from under

Apparently, you can't get negative points.

Woah, I even bounced against the top of my screen!

@Jenayah In real life?

no, the penguin
the penguin hit the top of the screen and bounced
I am so stuck at that level, I keep hitting the straight line hoping there'll be enough thrust and moving tile random alignment to pass it

12:28 AM
@Jenayah Which level?

9
You alternatively have moving tile, dashin tile, moving tile, dashing tile etc
I think the only reasonable solution is dash straight forward and hope it'lll pass

I didn't get past 4.

gotta go reaaaaally slowly at some points...
The clock doesn't even update anymore ahah
took me 30 minutes to beat a game that's supposed to last less than 10... ahahah

Q: How long do beornings live?

SavaIn The Desolation of Smaug, Beorn mentions to Gandalf that he remembers the time when Sauron ruled over the Mirkwood. So I watched the first Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and it's indeed a pretty good movie

Any Ministry of Defence credits that we all missed?

Crap, I didn't check
Eh, may check later :P

@Jenayah Was it a good movie as a movie, or as a Harry Potter story?

@Alex as a movie. It doesn't have much to do with HP, actually.
I mean the spells and beasts are the same but other than that the setting and stakes are much different

@Jenayah French?

well I thought it was Latin
Bis is a Latin prefix or suffix designating the second instance of a thing, thus preceding ter. An example in recent modern usage is the ITU-T modem standard from the late 20th century, V.32bis. Bis can also be used as a notation, which indicates that an item has been, or is to be, repeated; this is typically used in accounts and in music. Bis or BIS can also refer to: == Film and books == Bis (film), a 2015 French comedy film Bis (magazine), a Japanese high-teens' magazine published by Kobunsha Bis Télévisions, French TV chain == Music == BIS Records, a Scandinavian record label focus...

I'd heard that anime questions are often about mecha and crystals, but now that I've got mail notifications I see that it's well deserved.

Seriously they're ALL about mecha or summoning stuff

Just got to watch them and reap the points :]

@lephe eh, Google works better. Oh wait, no it doesn't for anime

You have a point, though. No need to watch them, just list them xD

But once you've found one, you'll find out you can reuse it at will as it gets asked every two months
What can I say, it works :P

Not enough, though.

@Alex not enough? If you roll them through a plagiarism detector thingy I'm pretty sure you end up with ~80% correlation xD

@Jenayah I believe you were guilty of self-plagiarism elsewhere as well.
@Jenayah But you still had to create 20% new content.

@Alex possibly. Where?

@Jenayah Let me retrieve it.

2:12 PM
@Alex uh, 80% plagiarism is way too much for, say, a school paper
when it's above 7-8% you're in deep
so 80%... ahahah
@Alex oh, the latest Aquaman answer?

@Jenayah If you're going to be plagiarizing yourself anyway, you may as well do it fully and save yourself some time/effort.
@Jenayah No. I don't think I've seen that yet.

5:53 PM
@Randal'Thor this edit was actually pretty spot-on, I think. It adds a relevant tag and the correct spelling is indeed "Gray" (well, at least that's how it's spelled in the wikia and in this answer for instance quoting some games and books)

@Jenayah I think gray vs grey is an age-old debate.

@Alex well apparently there's an "official" (unsure if canon, SW Canon is a mess) book using the -a spelling

@Jenayah Where's that book published? The debate tends to be British vs American, so the book might simply follow the convention of its country.
Much like British Harry Potter has "colour" but American Harry Potter has "color".

@Alex dunno, I'm not an expert on SW stuff. Probably American, though.
But we refer to HP as Philosopher's stone since it was written in British English, so surely we should od the same with that thing above
IMHO
Or there was something I didn't quite catch with that rejection... Gotta admit, neither Rand and me are pretty big on SW aren't we? :P

@Jenayah Most of us do refer to it as Philosopher's Stone, but you will find a few references to it here as Sorcerer's Stone. Also there might be a difference between an entire word vs a one-letter spelling difference. Plus it's the title of the book. And even so, would you edit a post to change Sorcerer's to Philosopher's? And all the more so to change color to colour?
(Not that I'm expressing an opinion on this particular edit.)

6:10 PM
I usually write Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

Quick, let's edit all of Mithrandir's posts.

6:29 PM
@Jenayah Gray is American, Grey is British, and we don't 'correct' one version of English to the other. As for the tag, has a very specific usage and shouldn't be edited in unless we're sure that's what the OP means.

@Randal'Thor If the original material uses “Gray” and is from America, I think it should be “Gray”

@Randal'Thor However much that might pain you.

@CorvoAttano We don't correct "Sorceror's Stone" to "Philosopher's Stone" for Harry Potter.
But I'm no expert on Star Wars, so I won't argue that point.

That's why we have comments like this:
And in America, of course, people like Kierkegaard, Plato, Hegel, and Jung are also sorcerers, though I doubt they’d be considered wizards. — Janus Bahs Jacquet Jan 20 at 17:30

@Alex there was a meta about it... sec

@Randal'Thor m'okay. I still think "Gray" was relevant, though ;)

@Jenayah You're the one that voted as Primarily Opinion Based.

No, I voted as off-topic.
Just because that stupid system doesn't show everyone's vote reasons, doesn't mean the first VTCed as POB :P
Or at least I really don't remember VTCing as POB.

@Jenayah Ah, I retract my accusation then.
In fact, there was a Feature Request on the homepage of Meta today about that.

how does that thing work, anyway? scifi.stackexchange.com/q/202043/98028 shows both reasons.

oh, alright

7:08 PM
For the record, I would agree it's more off-topic than Primarily Opinion Based.

Well, it's off-topic first, and POB second.

If it's truly both, then I would probably vote for Primarily Opinion Based because that's a broader reason.

It's a better thing to mark this as off-topic, because when it reads POB, OP (and others) may think "oh, they just want me to be more objective in what I ask. Okay, then - I'll edit my question accordingly" - and you end up with a critic request that is not that much POB, but is still very much off-topic.

Good point. On the other hand, if you close as off-topic they might think they just need to find a Stack Exchange site whose topic is writing. But if it's Primarily Opinion Based then it's not suitable anywhere on the network.

Well, I checked their profile and they have a Writing account. writing.stackexchange.com/users/35695/badgradientboy as it shows participation in a tag (rather than the "keeping a low profile" disclaimer), but no posts, I thought they might have asked the same question there and it got deleted, hence no need to explain why that'd be off-topic elsewhere.
Agreed, that's that very specific case, though.

7:16 PM
So the best solution is to have it closed for both reasons?

I think the best solution is close as off-topic and leave a comment explaining the basics of SE, and pointing to chat
(which is what I did, as I thought it was the best thing to do)

Your comment was good (I upvoted), but it didn't mention opinions.

For what it's worth, the post wasn't closed as POB when I wrote that comment.

That's why you should be able to "check all that apply".

Mmmmh... I just remembered a vague movie ending, probably not yet enough for an ID question, but let's see if that reminds anything to anyone

...

Basically at the end of the movie, some guy is shot, he was carrying one or two sheets of paper (not big, the size of a pocket notebook -he might have carried a notebook as well). The sheets of paper act like "consumable" spells. Another character comes, there's a quip about being always prepared, character #2 applies the sheet of paper on shot guy's shoulder/torso, and shot guy is revived
I think that took place in a library (or somewhere with a lot of bookshelves), and there might have been a reference to Alice in Wonderland in the sheets of paper
The healing paper may have absorbed venom or some dark jinw or stuff

Movie looked like something produced somewhere between 1995 and 2015, I guess
Live-atcion, I think.
