@CorvoAttano probably a puppet Doctor, per scifi.meta.stackexchange.com/a/10439/98028
(scroll down to previous avatars)

@Jenayah Your bringing back my nightmares.

@Jenayah Not sure which one - lightish hair, so I'm thinking the third, the sixth, or the twelfth; face and hairstyle don't match well with the Fifth Doctor.

@Alex what nightmares?

@Marvin @Jenayah this should be closed, definitely

<--------- only watched one Doctor Who episode in her life

that is bad fix that

@CorvoAttano probably indeed. Shopping questions are to be quite specific to be on-topic. I'll fetch the meta

@Riker Just like a cat, bossing everyone around. "Fix that!" "Give me food!" "Pet me now!" "Stop moving around, I'm trying to sleep on you!"

please present your lap
it has been commandeered
this is not up for debate

@Riker Sadly, I'm fat enough I don't really have much of a lap....

@Riker Wait - you're not a real cat! - or that roll of toilet paper would a) not be neatly rolled up, dangling there, and b) would not be on your head! Shenanigans on you!

@Jenayah they’re on-topic or off?

Q: Are shopping questions on topic?

Tony MeyerIs asking where something sci-fi/fantasy can be obtained on topic? What about asking about out of print (and whatever that is called in TV/film) items? Is it ok to ask where a copy if a work could be found in that case? What about items that are available for free? i.e. if shopping questions ar...

@RDFozz not sure what you mean it's obviously a waffle (caching?)

@Riker Possibly.

12:09 AM
In any case, I've voted to close today's one because it doesn't even feel like it's on-topic. And I DVed for no research (yet)

yep

@CorvoAttano Merchandise can be on topic, though this seems borderline. It's not really about where something can be obtained, but it's explicitly about whether the product at a specific site is the same as that at another site.
@Riker Previous pics are Clean-up hat - this one is waffles. I'm sure a refresh would resolve the issue.

Does the guy's website even show for any of you?

now it's waffles for me ;)
@Jenayah yep

@Alex I mean, it means Truly, not you were correct.

@RDFozz Yeah, I was deliberately misunderstanding you.

Non!

@Jenayah The models of Earthbound characters confuse me

haven't played 'em

@Jenayah lol I didn’t see that
@Jenayah they look like clay in the modern art, pixelated sprites aren’t ever used in the marketing. It’s weird

maybe it's for the retro feel?

well it's an upgrade I'll give you that
lacks the "authentic" feel to it though

Q: Does Deep Rock in "The Gypsy Morph" become the Hadeshorn?

LizDoes Deep Rock where Wills is stationed become the Hadeshorn? Wills talks to and interacts with ghosts that are like shades.

Earthbound is supposed to be awesome, but it’s kinda disappointing imo; it’s got good writing and story but the gameplay is REALLY basic RPG stuff

@Jenayah I use it.

@b_jonas and it works like it should?

@Jenayah Hmm... no. Let me see what's wrong.

@b_jonas FWIW, I think this appeared after they changed the favorite icon

12:33 AM
@CorvoAttano The gameplay is old, game designers didn't yet know how to make good gameplay yet. It's the story and atmosphere that make it a good game.
I'll look into it, but it's late so I can't promise anything. Obviously feel free to ninja me and edit the meta post if you make a solution.

@b_jonas I will, no promises though

literature.stackexchange.com/q/8934/139 this guy didn't return btw, so I don't know if my answer is correct.

@b_jonas it’s still great, yeah
FFVI is about contemporary, though

12:53 AM
@Jenayah Wow. They changed the buttons to narrower. Now they're 36 px wide, whereas they used to be 40 px wide, in both the Sci Fi circular and the generic version.
So the custom theme will be a bit more disruptive now, because it will resize the vote buttons to 4 px wider.
The entire vertical column containing them is only 36 px wide now.
Does anyone happen to remember what the padding on the right of that voting column was? It's now 15 px.

@b_jonas I don't, but wouldn't that be buried somewhere in your Styulus code?

@Jenayah No, because I didn't override that. I didn't need to because the widths didn't change.
Should be possible to tell from screenshots though.

@b_jonas hmmm, maybe we can calculate it from the former width and the current width + current margin?

@Jenayah Yes, but I don't know the former width by heart. I'll have to try to look this up in screenshots.
scifi.meta.stackexchange.com/a/12101/4918 has enough screenshots, I can compare to those.
It's a bit too late to fix this today. I'll just put a note on the meta that it doesn't currently work.

1:07 AM
@Jenayah Wow. Now I have a challenge.

I think even @b_jonas' latest story-id was shorter

I have a question coming up. I'll just have to really drag it out.

Indeed.
From Philosopher's Stone.

@CorvoAttano that's not a bad idea actually, here's one
@Alex how is it that your profile page still tracks gold HP tag badge now that you have it?

@Jenayah Because I never clicked "track the next one".

ooooh

4:11 AM
@CorvoAttano it's the Twelfth Doctor from Doctor Who, rendered as a puppet

4:48 AM
@CorvoAttano FYI when you edit one-liners like this one it can be a good thing to include a summary/trailer/etc. Nothing too fancy, you can just grab the first IMDb/Youtube result, but that makes for a better edit than just capitalisation/italics :)
the idea being that while we're bumping a post to the homepage, it's better to clean everything in it

@Jenayah Apparently on Mobile it doesn’t.

For instance:
- replace HTTP with HTTPS when the destination link allows it
- replace dummy image descriptions (`enter image description here`) with actual, even if brief, descriptions
- replace external images with stack Imgur ones
- check if the links are dead, if so link to an archive or another source stating the same thing
- transcript the text from the images if the answer is only contained in those images (for people who use a screen reader)
etc :)

Went ahead and edited that part out.

@RDFozz alright, I thought it still was part of "the continuity"
Will have to find another occurrence of toad being in a brotherhood :)

@Jenayah Oh, it is - just far in advance of Toad's own Brotherhood.

@RDFozz hm, "the continuity" as in, "what took place afetrwards"

He is in the new one Magneto forms in X-Men Blue #34.
@Jenayah Silly you, thinking continuity runs in a straight line. It actually tends to tie itself in knots.

@RDFozz that's fairly recent, though, I'd exepect him to be part of a Brotherhood in the 2000s already?
@RDFozz Time isn't made out of lines. It's made out of circles; this is why clocks are round.

And a good chunk of beard length... And overall heigth.
Good question - is Dumbledore's beard a fault?

@Jenayah Well if he's growing it out of penitence then perhaps.
Speaking of Harry Potter and Star Wars, Half-Blood Prince was published shortly after Revenge of the Sith. And both of those specifically referred to the hero as "The Chosen One". Coincidence?

@Alex Two or more SFF works centered about a "Chosen One" hero?! That can't be a coincidence!
3

@Jenayah Well it's more that both were about a prophecy that designated the chosen one, and both only referred to it with that specific term starting then.

7:04 PM
@Alex still way too much of a trope, though
Matrix anyone?
Heck the hero's name is an anagram of "One"
alright it's the Chosen One or "the One" depending on the versions, but VTC: POB, too broad :P

Wait, what are you voting to close?

> Coincidence?
that's a question ^

It's too broad if it asks about a coincidence between two specific works?

Mmmmh... maybe not too broad, but certainly DV-worthy as this is one of the most common tropes. It might not fall into POB because SW and HP have lots of interviews, stuff etc to answer it

I can handle downvotes.

7:12 PM
would probably depend on the wording

(As long as they're explained.)

Expect one user to comment "Two or more SFF works centered about a "Chosen One" hero?! That _can't be a coincidence!" and the comment being upvoted at least five times :P

@Jenayah why replace it with HTTPS? It breaks some links, doesn’t make it any different (the website won’t become encrypted)

@CorvoAttano I did say "when the destination link allows it" :) as for the ones that redirect HTTPS to HTTP (some Wikias do, I think?), in case they ever upgrade to a decent HTTPS, that will already have been handled in SFF's part :)

@Alex Begin the fastest gun in the west can be stressful. There's an old parody song about Irving, the 142nd fastest gun in the west - and he was searching for #143. Because, in the old American West, people wanted to be the fastest gun, and sometimes did that by working their way up the list, with the next fastest.
