4:49 AM
@marmot There is! Just install it and use convert in command prompt
@manooooh No, I'm the poisoned duck (so that @DavidCarlisle can't eat me)

7 hours later…
11:32 AM
@CarLaTeX Grazie!

11:55 AM
@CarLaTeX Are you sure this is a good strategy? He might only find out after eating you which would deprive TeX.SE of two valuable users at the same time!

@samcarter @CarLaTeX has a very fast car. I don't see how @DavidCarlisle could possibly catch her. ;-)

@marmot That sounds like a better strategy than being poisoned!

@samcarter Maybe a simple \renewuser{\DavidCarlisle}{\Vegetarian} would do?
4

12:14 PM
@marmot This only solves half the problem with the Hawaiian pizza, the pineapple is still there...

@samcarter Yes, but the ducks will be safe. I'm not sure if @DavidCarlisle would like ` \renewuser{\DavidCarlisle}{\ItalianVegetarian}`, which would also solve the second problem. ;-

12:31 PM
@marmot Now I'm curious about the exact definition of \ItalianVegetarian. Eating Parma ham is allowed for the sake of national pride and pineapples only for desert?

@samcarter I guess "Italian" implies a certain level of food consciousness, and "Vegetarian" makes sure that the ducks are safe, which they would not be, if he would be "only" made Italian. (But maybe \renewuser{\DavidCarlisle}{\it \Vegetarian} would do. ;-)

@marmot lol

@marmot This code will result in bad Italian correction, better use \textit{} :)

@samcarter @DavidCarlisle is not @egreg, he does not care about the visual output, only about the logs :)

@samcarter I dunno, he is generally leaning more towards the good old syntax, I think. \textit is a bit at odds with the way he draws his plane, way too modern. ;-)

12:53 PM
@boycott.se-yo' That's true:
Jan 8 at 11:16, by David Carlisle
@HaraldHanche-Olsen who cares about the typeset output so long as the log is clean? :-)

1:18 PM
@egreg this release of imakeidx broke the autodetection of use of fancyhdr
Is it voluntaree?

1:59 PM
@samcarter but he knows it, so he would not eat me

@CarLaTeX Maybe remind him from time to time, just to be sure :)
@CarLaTeX @PauloCereda @UlrikeFischer @marmot Does anyone happen to have a suggestion how to name the example collection of the tikzzoo? The ducks have their duck pond, the marmots the marmot burrow, but what should the zoo have?

@samcarter Noah's Ark? (just kidding ;-)

@marmot I'd need a macro to automatically draw two of each :)

@samcarter I don't know, but why tikzzoo and not tikzoo?

@CarLaTeX Zoo sounds a little bit like animals (and beings!) in cages....

2:10 PM
@marmot It is the name of the package, or am I wrong?

@samcarter @CarLaTeX Being sanctuary? Just to make sure nobody even thinks of eating them ;-)

@CarLaTeX That is something I am asking myself. tikzoo looks kind of nicer, on the other hand I can never remember if hyperref or cleveref has two r... so leaving out letters can be confusing.

Or TikZbeings ;-)

@marmot tikzreservate is a bit long to type :)

@samcarter true
Or tikzpecies?

2:16 PM
@marmot This would drive me crazy :) "beings" happens to be one of the words I never type correctly on first try

@samcarter tikzdarwin?

@CarLaTeX :) This could be interesting. Let's see which animals or beings will survive

@samcarter The marmot species is already 10 million years old... ;-)
@samcarter @CarLaTeX ... but still good for surprises ;-)

@marmot I can add a foreword that its not a zoo in the classical sense, but with infinity large enclosures. Would this comfort you?
@marmot And they will surly survive any nuclear catastrophe in their burrows :)

@samcarter sort of ... zoo just means the beings there are being exhibited ...

2:27 PM
@samcarter or tikzpets

@marmot I'll make sure to ask each and every tikz being if this is something they go for! I'm sure in an infinite population there will be some that like this.
@CarLaTeX mmm, also a good option (and short name to type) I'll think about that.

@samcarter tikzlife

@UlrikeFischer Also nice! I'm a bit afraid I will get bug reports about "how to install texlive" :)
maybe tikzwild?

2:47 PM
@samcarter tikzcrowd tikzswarm tikzcluster

@UlrikeFischer amazing how many possibilities there are! Now I will never finish the package because I cannot decide which name it should have :)

3:02 PM
@UlrikeFischer This doesn't make deciding any easier :) Maybe tikzpack?

3:17 PM
@samcarter -- maybe tikzcritters?

@samcarter tikzlings

3:36 PM
@barbarabeeton @StefanKottwitz I see, there is really an infinite number of possibilities! Thanks a lot for all your suggestions!

@samcarter tikzmenu

@DavidCarlisle Thanks, that makes the decision much easier. I can rule out at least one name :)

@samcarter if you want your animals ranging free and not caged: tikzsafari

4:02 PM
behind bars: davidproof duck, variation 2 ^^^@samcarter
@samcarter the family council voted for tikzpack or tikzlings.

@samcarter tikzfauna could work also
@UlrikeFischer tikzpack sounds too general; tikzlings is cute indeed
or tikzpark

4:18 PM
@UlrikeFischer Did you also ask the Bär? He should know best what his tikzcousins might like.
@boycott.se-yo' tikzpark is also not bad. Maybe I should just write all the names on pieces of paper and draw one.

@samcarter or make a poll :)

@samcarter we asked the whole pack ^^^^

is there a TeXLive package for Arch Linux?
it looks like ther's only the core version

@Aurelius install the vanilla one from tug.org , it's better anyway

4:24 PM
wouldn't it better to have it from the package manager?
or it doesn't make much difference since it gets updated with it's own script?

@Aurelius That's a tough thing. If you wanna install other packages that rely on it, then yes, but this is uncommon. Otherwise, the vanilla one is usually working better, it's a newer version and you get instant updates of packages.

4:45 PM
OK, let's outsource the hard decision to all of you. If you have any opinion how the collection of tikz animals and beings should be named, please visit the following link (until Friday, 31 August, 23:59 UTC - as name you can also use something like anonymous, duck ...)

@UlrikeFischer Oh, even a Tigerente!

@UlrikeFischer -- tikzpack sounds to me like a group of related beasts. although they're undoubtedly friendly to one another, i think marmots and ducks are unlikely to be related; certainly not genetically. tikzlings is nicely generic and kind of cute. i'd vote for that.

Could someone who knows things check if this is really a bug, please? tex.stackexchange.com/a/448005/134574

5:03 PM
@PhelypeOleinik It can't be a bug, it must be a feature, see who made the change: github.com/ho-tex/oberdiek/commit/…. @DavidCarlisle

@UlrikeFischer LOL. I knew I got it wrong :P
@UlrikeFischer It looks like the previous approach had issues too: github.com/ho-tex/oberdiek/issues/20

@PhelypeOleinik yes I know, it was my bug report ;-). Probably one should remove all this <0.36 stuff and change \directlua0 to \directlua.

@barbarabeeton Genetics of the tikz species is a bit different then in the non-tikz world - for example penguin and marmot are very closely related, they share the same body shape.

@UlrikeFischer I was just going to say that I didn't see the reason for ignoring 0. Makes sense now :)

@barbarabeeton On the other hand penguin and duck share very little DNA, just their eyes are common between both

5:17 PM
@UlrikeFischer LuaTeX 0.36 is 10 years old. I don't think people still use it... But to keep compatibility I think that a local catcode change wouldn't hurt

@samcarter -- hmmm. i guess i think of that more as morphology. (as far as i know, marmots don't swim all that well or eat fish.) so i still favor amorphous non-specificity. who knows what sort of creature will emerge next.

@PhelypeOleinik I don't see the point. The question is not "do people still use luatex 0.36" but "do people use luatex 0.36 along with a pdftexcmds.sty from 2018"?

@UlrikeFischer Ooh, I didn't think of that... It would be strange, at the very least
@UlrikeFischer Thanks for looking into it :)
@UlrikeFischer I'll file a bug in the repository

6:10 PM
@samcarter Did you already draw a koala bear? If not, I'd be glad to help... ;-)

7:02 PM
@marmot Oh, a koala would be nice!
@marmot At TUG'18 Will Robertson had ducks in his talk, maybe he could use tikzkoalas in the future :)

@samcarter Will try to do that the next days. @StefanKottwitz convinced me to upload something on TeXample, which I plan to do in the next days, and then koalas... (now I go hiking, which is very suitable for marmots, I think.)

@marmot Have fun at hiking - I hope you'll meet some of your extended family! And thanks a lot for the offer to help with a koala!

1 hour later…
8:30 PM
hi

@noobcoder hello

@UlrikeFischer Hi Ulrike. I was giving a LaTeX introduction last Friday (Phd students).

I recommended your name in case of professional paid support and one of the 15 attendees was aware of you.

He was telling the group how helpful you were many times to him (German LaTeX forum, golatex I think).

I just wanted to let you know that your help is appreciated.

@boycott.se-yo' Thanks! Do you think that installing texlive-bin and texlive-core would lead to many errors for laking packages?
there is explained what they contain
I mean in a normal usage for writing theses, CV, reports

8:56 PM
@Aurelius there is no "normal usage" for writing theses. Probably every package on ctan is used in someone's thesis) If you are a linguist you probably don't use chemmacros, if you are a chemist you might not use forest, if you are not @PauloCereda you probably don't use tikzducks and so it goes on... really it is up to you, start with a small setup and add packages as needed, or start with a full setup and not worry abut the disk space (which isn't that much really)

9:31 PM
@Dr.ManuelKuehner oh. Thanks ;-)

2 hours later…
11:02 PM
@samcarter Thanks. Hike was good. But I didn't meet any of my friends, guess they're all hanging out at Maroon Lake. Plan to pay them a visit tomorrow. ;-)
