sooo
@thesecretmaster your new cache made /reasons much faster when it's cached, but much slower when it's not
I'm staring at 30s just in MySQL time here

12:31 AM
I think it fetches both active and inactive reasons in separate queries
That's the only difference

did that before
the problem is that the queries for the accuracy charts were written by a chipmunk
!!/blame᠎ ᠎‌᠎᠎

@ArtOfCode It's ArtOfCode's fault.

Stackoverflow lol of the day. Guy has an extremely loose command of english and starts getting lippy that his code-only answers are in the low quality queue:
https://stackoverflow.com/a/50318040/445131 WHY YOU NOT UNDERTAN???

@ArtOfCode If I merge my PR, I think it'll be fixed?

@thesecretmaster I just uber-fixed it

Oh. Then we can close my PR.
Wait, no
@ArtOfCode Now you're caching the cache in the view

[ metasmoke ] ci/circleci success on 6f47377: Your tests passed on CircleCI!

@thesecretmaster Huh?

1:01 AM
You cache the cache here and here

(Fun fact: uncached, /reasons currently runs 503 SQL queries)
@thesecretmaster I left that alone

K, I'll fix it now.

cool
ETA soon or do I deploy now and get yours in 6-8 hours?

@ArtOfCode Sanity check on this? I'm not gonna break anything?

since you removed the cache that it was there to break, correct, you won't break anything
but there's gonna be a fun merge conflict there - suggest just close that PR and make the changes manually

And that cache was caching the /reasons cache

@thesecretmaster no, those cache calls were caching the reason_accuracy partials

1:11 AM
Which were using the cached query from the action

@thesecretmaster no, they weren't, that was the problem

... huh? I thought that the problem is that the query wasn't cached, but the partials were.
So now the query is cached and the partials aren't?
Generating the partials is cheap, the query is expensive.
@ArtOfCode I gotta run for an hour, but I'm ready to deploy. Feel free to correct any stupids that I've done.

@thesecretmaster other way round... the query is an expensive query, yes, but the partials take 4 queries. Each.

Of course ;)

Oh, I really did.
Wow.

@quartata so... what's the difference

2:00 AM
Installation seems pretty simple -- I assume @quartata means that it's backwards compatible with what we have now, it just adds features.

@thesecretmaster talking about Python pcre for Smokey, not MySQL in MS

One of my pet peeves with AR is that it does more queries then it has too -- sometimes it'll query multiple times for the same bit of information.
@ArtOfCode Tonight is just not a good night for me. I think maybe it's about time for me to get to sleep.

:)
o/
I probably should too

Yeah... you basically sleep on EST as far as I can tell
Which... I guess is healthy, as long as you get enough sleep?

If there was a timezone about 1.5 hours east of EST, that'd be where I'm at

2:07 AM
@ArtOfCode do what i do and live on a submarine

that also works

@ArtOfCode speed, possessive quantifiers, recursive regexes, \K, probably more things

@quartata shrug
PRs welcome :)

I mostly wanted to check with tripleee, the features aren't really for my benefit

@tripleee I didn't understand you were asking specifically about the surrounding alpha characters. I do not have a specific example. However, I could certainly see someone writing it as call us at_1_234_567_8901___to get.... Frankly, I'd consider the underscore more likely, but including the possibility of alpha characters seemed like a reasonable. It does, however, particularly at the start, make the regex more expensive. I don't have a strong objection to removing the alphas.

What I was thinking about earlier was that we should have a specific phone number list, rather than have individual regexes grouped with our generic regexes. That would permit us to manipulate the title & body text to account for more esoteric possibilities. However, if we do that, I'd suggest that we have two separate detections. One without esoterics and one with. Basically, because accounting for the esoterics will result in a higher FP rate, which we should keep separate.

github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector/issues/2169 <- let's break out phone numbers
Halflife does its own phone number candidate extraction and it's somewhat FP-prone, it's mostly harmless but having IP addresses etc extracted as "phone number candidates" is probably not hard to avoid, either
I've been thinking about putting in a filter to avoid Unix time stamps from the last month or so but I haven't investigated what sort of phone numbers that would cause us to miss

Well, at a minimum, I'd split detections into at least two bins. The first bin being things which we're very confident fit the "normal" format for phone numbers. And the other bin being things which might be phone numbers. Basically, if we can be quite confident that it's actually a phone number, the FP rate will be much lower. However, we still want to detect the things that might be phone numbers, but we're not as confident they are such.

Does anyone know offhand how metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/domains/tags/1?what=domains is sorted?

My educated guess is ID

By ID, you can check the URLs in the Details column

Yup, looks like it

:/
thanks
(IMO, should just sort by newest added last - that way I can go through the list without worrying about missing one because it got added somewhere in the middle)

you can reimplement any of this with the SQL Data Explorer and put in the sorting criteria you want; it really is quite handy
and if I managed to write some syntactically valid SQL, then so can you

i don't code in the slightest, so i don't think i can
