I generally think GDPR is a ridiculously dangerous law. Terribly easy to abuse.

That said, if there are some simple things we can do to shut down any complaints, I'm generally in favor of anything that prevents me wasting my time.

@Undo agree there

8:00 PM
@SmokeDetector why (pun intended) do you try to parse it then?

@Glorfindel That's not a report.
CI on b8edcce succeeded. Message contains 'autopull', pulling...

Now, unlike SE, we can just shut Europe off. That's one thing to think about.

Restart: API quota is 9990.

no we can't, unless you want to not scan posts from Europe

Have we seen much pharma spam in Spanish here on SE?

8:02 PM
Also half this room is in the EU lol

@quartata I don't know they're from Europe either way. That should be SE's prerogative, right?
@quartata you should definitely not use a proxy
I wish we'd seen a mass revolt from the big players. Shut Facebook and Google off in Europe for a while and they'd get it straightened out right quick
Okay, so there are two sources of incoming data. (1) Scanned/reported posts, and (2) OAuth'd users.
And (3) email-auth'd users, but I wouldn't mind just shutting that off.

@Undo IPs on Audit

Audit?

aye
ya know, the thing we use to monitor FlagSetting changes
and possibly other things
SmokeDetectors too

@ArtOfCode Should be easy enough to solve with a "by using this part of the Internet, you agree to it doing normal Internet things" banner
SmokeDetectors don't collect IPs beyond standard server logs

8:06 PM
@Undo had that discussion... can't do that, has to be opt-in

what the heck does that mean?
"you really agree"?

@Undo no, but if you delete a SmokeDetector, it creates an Audit record of that, which includes remote_address
@Undo means the user has to take an explicit action like ticking a box

insanity
... can I show that box only to EU people?

yes

Heh

8:08 PM
and maybe make it float around the screen randomly?
2
and flash

<blink><marquee>TICK ME</marquee></blink>

"Your honor, he tried to click the box forty-seven times before succeeding. I believe he intended to consent"
Okay, let's try this: On login, can I make people tick/untick an "I'm in the EU" box?
If said box is checked, every button requires chasing a checkbox around the screen

risky

If you lie to me about being in the EU, it's not my fault, right?
Make GDPR insanity opt-out. So by default, you have to opt-in to each button click.
And if you opt-out of opt-in-ing, you have to do something super secure like type "I AM NOT IN THE EU" into a box

I think I just might be able to build something slightly more friendly than that :P

8:13 PM
I might be a little irritated about all of this, but opt-in to every action feels like the safest thing.

a little, he says

foreign countries making laws for me kinda hurts my American feelings :P

A checkbox for everyone isn't really a big deal...

I hate checkboxes. Other people can have them if they like 'em so much.
See where I'm coming from, though? A blanket consent, to every action, containing everything we might record from any action. That way we can stay agile, not subjecting every little change to a legal review.

8:17 PM
@Undo Doesn't work under GDPR

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Potentially bad keyword in body: How to: New order Binance API via RStudio by Bart Beckers on stackoverflow.com

Every single purpose has to be seperately explicitly agreed to

GDPR is a privacy improvement at the cost of some legal forethought

8:18 PM
@user5389107 Can I force someone to agree to all or nothing?

Yes, as long as you list everything in one place
and fetch renewed consent when doing new things with the data

I.e. either you let me do everything I need to with your information, or you go away
Okay, that's a start

@ArtOfCode If the EU can get big companies to comply with this its gonna be great. it's just annoying for people without lawyers

@Undo I've included this in the privacy statement
"if you don't give us what we ask for then you can't have an account"

Would something like "We will record everything you explicitly provide us, plus IPs and timestamps and such, and will use it for normal operation of Charcoal services. These things are removed from data dumps:...." be too broad?

8:21 PM
@Undo imo yes

Awesome
... not awesome

Needs to be itemized, what do you gather that could be personally identifiable

IPs, auth info (emails + SE accounts)
That's... about it, unless you choose to type your home address somewhere.

Not just those though

@Undo Any content posted is considered personal information, assuming I read the wikipedia page correctly

8:23 PM
insanity

not really
feedback would be if it's associated
that can be disassociated

^

That can be done fairly easily

removing account details and renaming the account to user$randomnumber would suffice

Actually, if someone with an account sent me a fax or certified mail or whatever asking to be removed from everything, I'd probably just nuke all their feedback too.

8:25 PM
Right that's all easy

Anonymizing can be done, but I'd rather not have unattributed feedback floating around.

wellll we already do for people who don't have MS accounts

It's tied to an SE username, though

(or is one required for Reviewer?)

Thanks for what y'all do. Our (Mi Yodeya's) current pet vandal is close to neutralized by your swift flaggings.

8:27 PM
@Undo that'd fall under "stuff we would need to purge if someone contacted SE"

And SE contacted us

Along with anonymizing post records or deleting /spammers profiles
@Undo no user would forward request

@IsaacMoses \o/
:D

@IsaacMoses thanks! Let us know if we miss any posts, if there's any keywords/usernames/patterns that need blacklisting, or if there's any other way in which we can help further.

@IsaacMoses Always good to hear things like that :)
@quartata realistically, users aren't going to even know we exist.

8:30 PM
@IsaacMoses cooool.

gotta run. My TL;DR on GDPR: Want to minimize craziness, and willing to mildly inconvenience EU folks in exchange for least possible slowdown to MS dev pace.

@Undo yeah that's true....

Psst, guys, do exterminators get paid in cash?

@Undo it won't require any dev dev work, just writing

@NobodyNada Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.

8:31 PM
@quartata If dev work is blocked on writing, it slows down dev pace.
"minimize craziness" means "Global minimum of sum of metasmoke changes + chance of EU trying to hang me"
and out
