Small site, big spam.
1984: Think Different.
2017: Spam Different.

@gparyani it's looking fairly spammy but generalizing to regexes seems prone to false positives. We probably don't want to blacklist #hashtags or >> arrows too heavily (there is already a filter for the latter but it's been tweaked down precisely for this reason)
if this becomes more prevalent it's one of the domains where i'm thinking a good machine learning system would pick up the amount of individual indicators more than the mere presence or absence of a few indicators
the current smokey is completely binary; a feature is there, or it isn't (though some contribute less to the total weight as a rough approximation of something like this)

Looks like the one I reported here was just missed by Smokey.

it doesn't factor in e.g. post length, so n indicators in a short post looks exactly like the same n indicators in a long post, though the latter should often be regarded as less spammy

tl;dr: metasmoke pages can be used by spammers to show whoever's paying them a public-facing page with spam. The same was done for spam edits with edit review links, until SE added measures to make those edits show as fake 404s.

@gparyani I'm not the one who is paying the spammers, but if I were, a screen shot of message source from an unrelated site would look like unrelated, unconvincing, and perhaps forged evidence -- I would not pay
the fact that we don't render the posts I'd think is sufficient already
advertisers want clickable links with dancing mice around them, anything else is too hard for the conversion (marketing language for "suckers clicking") to work
if indeed some marketer was paying for edit spam, that's still evidence from the right web site and recognizable as "mission accomplished" to someone who specified what they were supposed to do ... not so much with evidence which we could basically be making up to screw with them
(it's not hard to falsify a much more convincing screen shot so in a way, having a Metasmoke transcript is just too stupid to be a forgery, which might convince someone somewhere, but ... this is much too speculative, and having a public record is important for us, too)
just my personal take on this -- thanks for bringing it up, but I don't think we need to take action
if somebody was eager to do a bit of A/B testing, having Metasmoke display 404s in the general direction of the Indian subcontinent would be a fun experiment

@tripleee A screenshot would not satisfy clients, as they want it to be available from a publicly-shown HTML page, so they can't simply provide a link to the deleted spam. Neither would a page that is shown only to logged-in users, as they explicitly want something that doesn't require login (those are the only ones that can possibly affect search rankings). (As a matter of fact, if you want to get past a fake 404 on a spam rejected edit, you just need to be logged in; your rep doesn't matter.

but that's how it goes ... I even got bronze in php even though I try to avoid it like the plague

@tripleee I still think it's worth temporarily making metasmoke pages only visible to logged-in users, to see if our spam goes down

If I am going to get any tag badge, the order would be [c++] [c] [bash] [python]

@Catija pretty close
13 people for SOBotics stickers - we can do 3 stickers per person on 50 stickers total, but we can't do 4

Bumping it to 100 puts the prices to £1.43/£2.10
