11:00 AM
@cairdcoinheringaahing CMD+F again returned no results.

crap Charcoal doesn't have base conversion either

Hehe, I gave you ideas
@cairdcoinheringaahing So it doesn't?

For some reason Charcoal has a neverending stream of bugs

@Mr.Xcoder it does, but you have to map the conversion over the stack :p

what's the character?

11:03 AM
@cairdcoinheringaahing O_o what how even
So that's what deorst means

Correction: no it doesn't. My custom types don't like me

Why did Rand'al Thor enter TNB?

@cairdcoinheringaahing -1 don't use Custom Types

@Mr.Xcoder I flagged something

Oh really, come on. It's not that offensive

11:06 AM
@Mr.Xcoder check the whole transcript, this was settled then

Okok... I enjoy reading the discussions there
They got creepy pretty fast
Hehe, given the starboard, I'm glad i'm 14 now :P

@Mr.Xcoder That doesn't help if you started at 13

@ASCII-only I think it is non-sensical anyway :P

@Mr.Xcoder huh?

The (starboard) message is nonsensical IMO, but it is mildly amusing

11:14 AM
@Mr.Xcoder -1 pls explain

Just ignore
Unrelated, my Epic badge progress passed 20 :)
Time for a challenge, haven't posted any in 15 days

@Mr.Xcoder I started at 14, I'm 15 now. I'm clear of the cut off :D
Yay! I have the bronze badge!

@cairdcoinheringaahing Pick 1, 2 or 3?

@Mr.Xcoder e
@Mr.Xcoder fine, 2

Great
thx

11:24 AM
What's the challenge? Can Deorst do it?

No idea what the challenge is

So why did you want me to pick a number?

1 was , 2 was , 3 was
@cairdcoinheringaahing I will write a number challenge.

@Mr.Xcoder I chose well. All my languages can handle number challenges

Not sure what Number challenge though

11:27 AM
@Mr.Xcoder Do you want this?

@cairdcoinheringaahing Now, I need you to pick once more: 1, 2 or 3?

@Mr.Xcoder 3

@Mr.Xcoder 2

@cairdcoinheringaahing No, no, can't switch now... I also prefer 2 though
umm.... What should I pick

11:28 AM
Then do 2. Number theory ones are always too difficult

Yes, but I have no ideas.

oeis

@ASCII-only No

2 mins ago, by caird coinheringaahing
@Mr.Xcoder Do you want this?

I try to come up with something creative
@cairdcoinheringaahing No, it's yours

11:29 AM
@Mr.Xcoder Read the first line of the post

@cairdcoinheringaahing I did. I have also read it, I don't want to adopt it.

@Mr.Xcoder Fine. You read it though, should I post it?

Not really my kind of challenge, although it is quite nice
@cairdcoinheringaahing Yes, you should, but don't expect a huge number of answers

@Mr.Xcoder Put it this way, I can't solve it in Jelly in under 50ish bytes, so its definitely not trivial

@cairdcoinheringaahing The vampire makes it hard
@cairdcoinheringaahing Also you should prepare yourself to receive extremely inefficient solutions.

11:34 AM
@Mr.Xcoder I don't mind that, as long as it doesn't get downvoted into oblivion

Because the vampire is in fact easy to code in golfing languages, but is extremely computation-heavy. For example, a good algorithm would be to get all the possible combinations of digits and multiply each and compare to the number
Which would probably take over 30 seconds for each number over 6-7 digits.
And narcissistic primes are easy

@Mr.Xcoder No it doesn't

@ASCII-only Makes it hard to golf.

Not exactly

Of course, it is not hard to code in general, but it is relatively hard to incorporate the implementation in a golfed program

11:37 AM
Not really....

Anonymous
I suspect that a large portion of the bytes in a solution for that will be the strings for the types of numbers

^
@Mego Wait, Output can be in any form, as long as you say what it is in your answer.

Anonymous
I suggest allowing any 6 distinct outputs

Anonymous
Oh, I missed that bit

@cairdcoinheringaahing Are you planning to post it today?

11:41 AM
@Mr.Xcoder When my sister gets off the computer.

Ok
I now feel good I have my own computer

@Mr.Xcoder I've got my own computer, it's just my parents make me let my sister use it. I'm on the shared mac at the moment, but it lags too much to go into the sandbox.

old mac I suppose?

@Mr.Xcoder 2007 :P

ugh
@cairdcoinheringaahing You can discard btw

11:43 AM
@Mr.Xcoder At max, I can have 2 tabs or one application open at any one time

well, the late 2015 seems to work much more smoothly :P

@Mr.Xcoder It also costs a lot more :P

Well,yeah

@Mr.Xcoder Sandbox post?

@cairdcoinheringaahing No, main post

11:45 AM
@Mr.Xcoder which one? Recent?

@cairdcoinheringaahing Yes

@Mr.Xcoder I hate to say it, but I agree with him.

@cairdcoinheringaahing Then why did you vote to reopen?

@Mr.Xcoder I had an answer ready, then found a bug in Deorst so couldn't post it
Plus, I don't really like the concept of dupe-hammering

Oh no, right when I said the word "argue"... Please take a look at the new comment @cairdcoinheringaahing

11:48 AM
@Mr.Xcoder Why did you delete all the comments?
o_o
ok, my computer is lagging hard, I'm gonna have to go. Bye!

The last thing I want is to argue Peter. at this point, I just want him to hammer again and leave it closed.
@cairdcoinheringaahing Bye

1 hour later…
Anonymous
12:57 PM
@Mr.Xcoder Each person can only vote/hammer once.

1:14 PM
@EriktheOutgolfer should we clean up the comments about the wrong results I got only with this strange msys2 python implementation?

@Mego Oh, you're right. BTW thanks for hammer-duping
It's just better that way

Does anyone know what's happened to Hyper? He hasn't been around for a while.

@cairdcoinheringaahing didn't he go on a vacation?

@cairdcoinheringaahing He's on vacation.
He'll come back soon

Massive dilemma: code golf or history homework :P

1:24 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing superficially done history homework then code golf

@Mr.Xcoder I'm failing history anyway, why not?

BTW History is the only subject I hate (for many reasons)

@Mr.Xcoder Why? Romania's history is fascinating

@Mr.Xcoder same (ok there may be a couple other horrible subjects)

@Mr.Xcoder I mean, I hate history, but that's because we do history of English medicine
@dzaima Do you do Religious Education at school?

1:27 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing 1. We have the worst teacher in the world, and she knows I think so about her as I openly told her. 2. Romania's real history is not taught in school, they only give us lies and bullshit. 3. We mostly do not study Romania's history. We only study it for 2 years or so (and superficially).

@cairdcoinheringaahing no

@Mr.Xcoder We had a teacher like that for Physics last year. Also, what history do you learn?

@cairdcoinheringaahing In the 5th grade we learn about the history of Egyptians and other Asian countries. In the 6th we superficially go though Romania's history. In the 7th grade we learn about the World Wars. In the 8th grade some other stuff about occidental countries.

@cairdcoinheringaahing if I was asked that, I couldn't answer that because I honestly don't remember anything or what about I learned..

In high school, other branches of History, such as archeology and ancient populations

1:31 PM
Here in the States, if we (the US) didn't have a part in the events happening, it wasn't taught as history.

@Mr.Xcoder ಠ_ಠ I never understood American school Grades. English Years are much better (i.e. I'm in Year 11)

@cairdcoinheringaahing On the other hand, I think I have the best Physics professor in the world.
@cairdcoinheringaahing I'm like, year 9-10 in English years (equivalently)

@AdmBorkBork If that was the case for where I live, history would be over in half a year :/

@Mr.Xcoder Lucky. Ours taught us about circuits for 2 months without mentioning parallel circuits because "they weren't on the test". They comprised of 20/40 marks in the test ಠ_ಠ
@dzaima Wouldn't Russian history be taught as well if that were the case?

Like, we barely glossed over the colonization of South America. I have no idea about the history of southeast Asia, or 90% of Africa, etc.

1:34 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing ok I might have exaggerated a bit

Anonymous
@AdmBorkBork In the states, history is usually separated into US history and world history

@Mego oh yeah, I've been meaning to ask, are you near the hurricane? Has it affected you?

@cairdcoinheringaahing We will be studying electricity this year, but I already know half of it (because if you go the last phase of the olympiad, you mostly have to learn in advance)

My classes were "US History" = happened inside the US borders, and "World History" = happened elsewhere in the world because the US had a part to play

Anonymous
@AdmBorkBork African history: not much happened, then Europe came and ruined everything. Then Europe left but didn't fix anything, and actually made it worse somehow.

1:34 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing Nope, he's on the other side of Texas

Anonymous
@cairdcoinheringaahing 400 miles away :)

@Mego So, pretty much standard.

Wow, instant response.

@Mr.Xcoder lol, the power of chat :P

Q: Generate the Rijndael S-box table in Python

SebMaI'm looking for a fast (less than a second of execution) Python code (that's readable) to generate the Rijndael S-box table : I found this but it does not generate the full table (only one element) and it's not readable Can you help me ?

> Python code (that's readable)
Clearly, the wrong place

ugh passport laws in the UK are so stupid

@Mayube How so?

I have like.. a month to get a passport for work, and I can't because I literally don't know anybody who is a valid countersignatory

@cairdcoinheringaahing does Jelly have an integer partitions built-in? If so, I think I'll open an issue

1:41 PM
It has to be somebody who has known me for 2 years, has a valid UK Passport, is not a relative, is not in a relationship with me or living at the same address as me, and work in or be retired from a "respected profession"

> œṗ Partition y at all truthy indices of x.

Umm
Not what I was looking for

@Mr.Xcoder No, apparently not

I'll ask erik or dennis to see why (or if there is a way I don't know of)

1:44 PM
@Mr.Xcoder I don't even know what integer partitions are (well, vaguely)

@cairdcoinheringaahing All possible combinations of positive integers that sum to the given number
@cairdcoinheringaahing 3 -> [[1, 1, 1], [1, 2], [3]], 4 -> [[1, 1, 1, 1], [1, 1, 2], [1, 3], [2, 2], [4]]

@Mr.Xcoder Isn't that part of one of the basic challenges in JHT?

@cairdcoinheringaahing Oh yeah... DUH
Sorry

Anonymous
@cairdcoinheringaahing What's JHT?

@Mego Jelly Hyper Training

1:46 PM
Jelly Hypertraining

@Mego Jelly HyperTraining

ninja';d

ninja'd badly :)

@Mayube How dare you not ping Mego?

Anonymous
Ah

Anonymous
1:47 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing I'm not offended by getting 2 pings instead of 3 :P

haha

there are no other conversations taking place, and it was easy to tell from context who I was talking to

@Mego Isn't it disrespectful in penguin culture to not break your ears with ping noises?

@cairdcoinheringaahing Wait, that's not exactly it. JHT asks for the largest partition of consecutive elements.

@Mr.Xcoder "Isn't that part of one of the basic challenges?"

1:50 PM
oh yeah

Morning all o/

DJ-wicka-wicka-wicka-wub-wub-McMaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyheeeeeeeemmmmmmm

:O
BRB, changing names

@DJMcMayhem I think it may be a little too long :P

Yeah, it cuts me off here:

1:58 PM
golf it by removing two "wicka"s

thinks they outgolfed Dennis, but in fact they have the exact same solution, just in reverse - *Facepalm*

I'm pretty sure the stretched Mayhem is still the longest part

at least you can include more of it :P

Sweet, that makes two people that have changed their names based on my suggestions.

@AdmBorkBork Who's the other?

2:00 PM
Bassdrop Cumberwubwub

CMC: Wicka-wub a string. First 2 letters, then -wicka-wicka-wicka-wub-wub- then th rest of the leters repeated the number of times as their position in the word, 0 indexed. (example coming)

markdown fail chain

DJMcMayhem => DJ-wicka-wicka-wicka-wub-wub-MMcccMMMMaaaaayyyyyyhhhhhhheeeeeeeemmmmmmmmm

you'd think the answer to this is lambda s,u:sorted(s,key=u.count)[::-1] >_>
actually
that's not a half bad challenge

2:03 PM
@DJMcMayhem +1 for the endless ms

I accidentally made it 2 ** index

@totallyhuman Yeah, I might post that in the Sandbox if I get long CMC responses

no i'm not talking about your challenge :P

@totallyhuman yeah I knew looks around

"sort a list based on the amount of times it occurs in the other list"

2:04 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing Ugh, he's talking about Bill's

wait
i linked to wrong challenge
halp i think i'm going crazy

Did you know that Bill has posted a challenge for every day he's been a member?

Q: Cooking with Code

tisaconundrumYou're a chef and you love cooking with your spices, but recently you've taken a liking to organizing your spices based on how often you use them. But you have no time to be writing down when you used your spice last. Simply, you swap and move spices around, and this seems to do the trick. But o...

@totallyhuman ಠ_ಠ no onebox

@cairdcoinheringaahing I do, I am expecting the one tomorrow (for Python FGITW or Pyth)

2:05 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing why?

@totallyhuman Fills up screen on mobile

lol, bill is the new micro Helka Homba (but with less great challenges, hence the micro)

@cairdcoinheringaahing SOGL, 31 bytes

@Mr.Xcoder the longer a challenge streak you get, the worse your challenges get

@cairdcoinheringaahing In fact, he didn't post any on Aug 26, when you came back.

2:07 PM
alright brb sandboxing challenge

wait doesn't python 2 have a list.find method?

nope
neither does 3 i think

@EriktheOutgolfer I think its str.find in both versions

it's list.index

@totallyhuman no I didn''t mean that

2:08 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing 11 questions, member for 19 days, some days had multiple questions ... ?

3 has find

@AdmBorkBork Yeah, more or less. Not exact.

I remember where list.find would return -1 instead of error

@EriktheOutgolfer they're the same thing, one throws an error when the item's not found and the other returns -1

2:09 PM
Yeah, I could have worded that better

@cairdcoinheringaahing V, 34 bytes: Try it online!
That took way too long

brb, working on a Jelly solution

@cairdcoinheringaahing nvm re-read the spec

@dzaima No, it's based on position in the whole word, 0 indexed

@cairdcoinheringaahing Pyth, 34 bytes: +++<Q2\-+*3"wicka-"*2"wub-"s.e*bkt... Yay, I tied V!

2:15 PM
Oh, is that a challenge? :P

@DJMcMayhem yeah it's a challenge where you were used as an example :p

@DJMcMayhem it is, when it comes to strings.

Lol, I get wickawickawickawubDJwub for my current jelly program

Well, I see some ways to golf off

@DJMcMayhem Does V have a compressed String "DJMcMayhem"?

2:18 PM
Uhm.. why was my account blocked from chat?

Haha, no

@Mayube How? When?

@Mayube I don't know. Did you have something flagged?

gtg go... Be back soon

"got to go go"

2:19 PM
Shortly after the double ninja thing with JHT and mego further up, my chat suddenly reloaded, and then any time I tried to send a message it said "Your account is currently blocked"
@DJMcMayhem If I did I wasn't notified
The "double ninja thing" being this

@Mayube Sounds like a kick to me

did Mego kick me?

Anonymous
@Mayube Nope. Why would I?

I wasn't around, and he didn't mention it, so I couldn't say

Anonymous
2:21 PM
I blame internal gremlins

@Mego I have no idea, you were the last RO I spoke to before the "kick"

@DJMcMayhem don't kicks redirect you to another page with a very specific message by shog9?

Anonymous
Maybe a message of yours got flagged and you got an automatic suspension? Idk

Seems stupid that I'd get no notification of that though

wait what

2:23 PM
surely the point of suspending or kicking somebody for any reason is to punish them for inappropriate behaviour or actions. A punishment is pointless if the target doesn't know what they're being punished for

why does print'\/' work

@Mego I don't think there's a chat box at all if you're suspended
he said the page got refreshed

yeah it got refreshed and I could still see chat

@totallyhuman because python

@totallyhuman because it doesn't view / as a separate character

2:23 PM
just any message I sent said "Your account is currently blocked" next to it

@totallyhuman Why would that not work?

Try print r'\/'

Anonymous
@EriktheOutgolfer There's not an input box, but suspensions do cause the page to be refreshed

so it wasn't a suspension

Anonymous
It's possible that due to caching or userscripts, the input box didn't go away

2:24 PM
@dzaima that's not an answer :P
@cairdcoinheringaahing i don't get it

I don't have any userscripts

@totallyhuman :p

@Mego well, it depends on how long it was blocked for

@totallyhuman `\` is the escape character

@AdmBorkBork shouldn't it short on the non-existent escape sequence \/

2:25 PM
looks like it was 30 minutes

Anonymous
@EriktheOutgolfer If it was an automatic suspension, it would've been 30 minutes

that's why I asked

Anonymous
So the likely explanation is that they got an automatic suspension from something being flagged, and something messed up and didn't remove the chat input box

it seems like python just guesses that you meant to use the backslash not escape invalidly

@Mego most likely yeah (but on the other side the input box wouldn't have been there to start with)

Anonymous
2:27 PM
@totallyhuman No, because escape sequences fall back to the character following the backslash if it's not a recognized sequence. That's the norm across basically everything that supports escape sequences.

@Mego Seems really stupid that that doesn't notify me at all though

@Mego Except that there aren't any removed messages from Mayube recently
Unless something super old got flagged, which seems unlikely

@DJMcMayhem you looking at the transcript?

Oh wait, it could be from a different room
@EriktheOutgolfer No

2:28 PM
> Unlike Standard C, all unrecognized escape sequences are left in the string unchanged, i.e., the backslash is left in the string. Source

@DJMcMayhem oh
because you can't see removed messages there

@DJMcMayhem I haven't spoken in any other SEChat rooms in weeks

@EriktheOutgolfer can you improve this for my CMC (here)?
I hate Jelly's tacit system

@EriktheOutgolfer Which is really dumb IMO
I wish it was atleast an option (for ROs)

2:30 PM
I'd prefer that "(removed)" stubs show only for ROs but everywhere

Exactly
That's what I want
Instead, removed stubs only show up in the room, not in the transcript

and they show for everyone

Which makes it really hard to catch up on any incidents

Anonymous
Unfortunately, putting in FRs for chat is pointless, because they never get any attention from the devs

while only ROs actually have a use for it

2:31 PM
Oh, I see
You want them hidden for Non-ROs

Anonymous
It took months to get the stealth ping bug fixed, and that was only because CJY took it upon himself to fix it

like comments, where deleted comments are only visible to mods
@Mego chris jester-young?

I think showing the stub is good
It lets you see that there used to be a message
So it doesn't mess with the flow too much

oh
but then again they should be visible in the transcript too
for everyone with read access
it's just the content that shouldn't be visible to non-ROs

@EriktheOutgolfer Can you refuse read access?

2:33 PM
@cairdcoinheringaahing only mods can

Anonymous
@EriktheOutgolfer Yep

they can make so-called "private rooms"
but they're strictly for moderation and not for anything else

@EriktheOutgolfer Isn't that how they remove moderators?

Yes, but those are made by SE employees, so they are even more private

Get them into a private room and talk it out

2:34 PM
That way, the mod in question can't see it, and the other mods can discuss it

I wish normal users were able to make private rooms too, there can be a lot of other reasons than moderation...

@EriktheOutgolfer Like what?

and I wish that private rooms 404 for anyone without access

@cairdcoinheringaahing If you're curious

Anonymous
There are 4 types of rooms in SE chat. There's the regular public rooms, like this one. There are gallery rooms, where everyone had read access but write access is whitelisted. There are private rooms, which can only be made by mods, can only be seen by people with read access, and non-mods can't be made ROs for more than 24 hours. And then there are super-secret rooms, which can only be made by SE employees. Mods have read and write access to all rooms of the first 3 types.

2:36 PM
How can you stealth ping in a room you owe (hide from Non-ROs)?

@DJMcMayhem Yeahm I read that
@Mr.Xcoder You can't stealth ping anymore they removed it

Anonymous
@EriktheOutgolfer Do they not? I thought they did.

@cairdcoinheringaahing But how was it done before it was removed?

@Mego try to visit "Trashcan"
of course you can't search for it

@Mr.Xcoder Put a NBSP in [] and ping the user in the hyperlink.

2:38 PM
Mego actually has read/write access to the Trashcan, so bad example :P

Like [<NBSP>](@Mr.Xcoder)

Anonymous
@DJMcMayhem No, I have access to the Trash room (which is a gallery room). Trashcan is a private trash room.

Ooh

@cairdcoinheringaahing Like this [ ](@caird)?

Nevermind

2:39 PM
@Mayube Where?

Is Chat.SE that old?

Room 9, the "WebApps - Ask a Moderator" room

@Mr.Xcoder that's 6 and a half years, SO is almost 10 years old

Chat.SE is more than 6 years old?! grasps in amazement

@Mayube I prefer the 16 year old repo on GitHub

2:41 PM
Ouch, I divided $2413$ by $265$ instead of $365$
Why did I use MathJax?

@cairdcoinheringaahing I prefer the GitHub repo with infinite contributors

@DJMcMayhem hahahaha I didn't see that one

Lol Is that meant to represent Mego?

@cairdcoinheringaahing And naturally it's linux

@Mr.Xcoder That's answered if you scroll up:

I found a picture of @Mego IRL:

@DJMcMayhem Oh nice

@Mayube It has 162 open pull requests :P

> 59.4k followers, 0 following --- Mean

@cairdcoinheringaahing of course it does, it's the largest open source code project in history

2:46 PM
Honestly, I could quote that repo's stats forever :D
1 branch, and 700,000 commits

Just saw a question about code-golf on the HNQ

There's also git on git

Oh, that next to contributors is... Amazing

Q: The Binary Binary Expansion

Voile Normally, we decompose a number into binary digits by assigning it with powers of 2, with a coefficient of 0 or 1 for each term: 25 = 1*16 + 1*8 + 0*4 + 0*2 + 1*1 The choice of 0 and 1 is... not very binary. We shall perform the true binary expansion by expanding with powers of 2, bu...
