I thought Conor posted two individual messages >_>

@ConorO'Brien can the c count be fewer than n?

user165474
@Mr.Xcoder 0/10 not using replies. Also, thanks. Also, that rhymes :D

@ConorO'Brien Python: lambda x,y,z:x.split(y,z-1)
I can't just use str.split :/

If your language has a feature whose specific...

I suggest that you use some other word than "mess"
perhaps "reverse"?

and perhaps include some 2,3,4-length testcases
and to clarify, can you take input as a char array?

done
@KritixiLithos char but not string array

6:35 PM
I suggest you specify that in the challenge as well

e.g. Python's ['a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e'] isn't allowed, since those are not chars but strings. in fact there's no "char" datatype in Python
@KritixiLithos isn't that default consensus?

ehhh, I'm pretty sure there will be someone that will ask something like this
but I see your point

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

Erik the OutgolferInterleaving reversing code-golfstring Given a string, reverse it interleavingly. Here's how to do it for abcdefghi and abcdefghij, 0-indexed: Separate the chars at even indices from the chars at odd indices:a c e g i b d f h a c e g i b d f h j Reverse the chars at odd indices:a c e g i h...

for example CJam's ['a'b'c'd'e] would be allowed but it's the same as "abcde" anyways
@NewSandboxedPosts good boy, I cared for you
btw who types NSP's complains?

Why is this closed? There are ~30 valid answers

6:39 PM
it's too broad anyways
C's {'a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e'} would be allowed, but {"a", "b", "c", "d", "e"} would not

For my Java answer, I take input via a char array and return a string

if it's a char datatype then all good but if they're length-1 strings then not

then you should specify that

@EriktheOutgolfer Is char** so much worse than char*?

char** is a list of strings which is disallowed by default I think
although I can't find the consensus rn

6:46 PM
@Mego @KritixiLithos Is that explanation helpful?

@EriktheOutgolfer No, it's a list of pointers to character pointers.
There's just an extra layer of pointing.

a char pointer defines a string
a TYPE pointer defines an array with elements of type TYPE

It doesn't have to

so a (char pointer) pointer defines an array with string (char pointer) elements

It can just be one element.

6:49 PM
isn't {'a'} still an array?
or even just {'\0'}?

@WheatWizard so, for example, how exactly do 000 and 001 differ?

@KritixiLithos You can see the red arrow on 001 is reversed, so if the pointer moves off the top or the bottom it will end up switching its left and right.

so it will be reflected by the centre vertical axis when it moves off the top or the bottom

now I think I understand the challenge
and how Klein works

6:58 PM
@KritixiLithos I'd say let's follow this consensus
...or just use my own rule

7:20 PM
Just some thoughts: As far as I see, the consensus is that we should allow every input format (as there is no easy way to define which of them is "the right way"). I think that sounds right, but is still kind of unfair. For example if the task is to implement a bijective function, could an identity function be allowed as an answer. Because the answer itself is surely a "representation of the input"?
It could make sense to only allow stdin and stdout as i/o, but that would exclude all function answers...
Some say that some i/o formats give unwanted advantage to some languages, but is that wrong? Some languages always have advantage over others both in calculation powers and in i/o. Why would the i/o be different than other features, in that it should not give any advantage?

Because if I could look up the golfed answer for a question on stack exchange and execute that, that's unfair, because your program only runs other peoples code. That's the IO advantage we're referring to

user165474
tfw you try to use caretreply in comments ;_;

What would you guys think of a Golf language where the first character decides the function of the rest of the CP? eg: m would pull up the math functions, s would pull up the string functions, l would pull up the loop functions, etc.
and then there would be a reserved island for some common functionalities.

Q: Find the Odd odds

Wheat WizardGiven an unordered collection of positive integers by any reasonable input method, return all of the sub-collections that have an odd number of odd elements (i.e. have an odd total). That sounds like it would be interesting, and you could probably beat Jelly very often with it if it's done right. My concern though is that it would not be able to answer certain challenges where both are required.

user165474

lol I answered ^^ in Jelly and then I thought "that 2-byte powerset looks like 05AB1E will beat it" so I used 05AB1E and beat myself :P

is there a way to make tiny bullet points in markdown?

•?

Use a smaller caliber.

7:47 PM
@mınxomaτ meaning?

@MistahFiggins Everything in Markdown is uniform...

I tried to surround it with

That was a pun. But nevermind, I don't actually have constructive input.

ok
well, I did it,but it's all smooshed now...
nvm, figured it out!

Maybe -? :P
Nvm that probably wouldn't do anything

7:49 PM
@mınxomaτ Doesn't load for me on mobile either.

Sorry.

What did you even do? lol

Ninja'd

@MistahFiggins <sub><sup>•</sup></sub> Works

I don't really want to give anyone ideas until this is fixed.

7:52 PM
I had to put the on a different line then the first bit of text (not in a bulleted list) and to put 2 linefeeds in between elements. It works

user165474
Weird, chat just went down for me.

Is this a dupe? I feel like it's way too simple to not have been asked before

user165474
Hm. I just got two unupvotes.

@HyperNeutrino I temporarily unupvoted your jelly when it turned out to be invalid

user165474
Ah. Okay, makes sense. I would presume someone did the same for 05AB1E.

user165474
7:57 PM
I believe I've fixed it now.

@HyperNeutrino Have you? both of them seem unchanged

user165474
I forgot to update the TIO link. But both of them still fail because I didn't actually fix it -.- I'm working on the 05AB1E one right now and I should be able to fix them both in one byte.

I really wish CJam would add a powerset function

user165474
I'd try to improve it. If you don't want to continue on it, I have a similar idea inspired from it that I will post if you don't want to continue on it.

8:21 PM
Yay

user165474
thanks :D

Tell me when I should delete it

user165474
Probably now. If I need to copy things from it I can still see it

Oh, you can see deleted posts? How much more rep do I need to get to that

@HyperNeutrino Converting 05ab1e to base 256 yields Base, iirc.
IDK the original base.

8:28 PM
@Phoenix probably hexdec

Does hex have e?
Oh wait yes it does
Also, Why is there a leading 0?
Eh, the description is on the GitHub

Probably not 256, as well that would only result in 3 characters
@HyperNeutrino Why have you voted to reopen this?

How do you know who casts reopen votes

I watch the review queue history

IMO, I don't see it anything wrong with it be open.

8:36 PM
It is way too broad. Its a pop con with no real winning criteria

The winning criteria is prettiness. This site should have more pretty things.

The criteria as stated in the question is just most votes. The asker also states that answers should be "creative". Even pop cons should have a goal.

user165474
Also, as with the Christmas Tree challenge, I think there's a reason it has score 96. It seems li an interesting challenge and although popcons are typically discouraged I think this one is interesting enough and has enough room for creativity without being too broad.

Traceback (most recent call last):

If you read the wiki it states that all pop cons must have a validity criterion, this question lacks that
@HyperNeutrino Then perhaps it should be locked as historically significant, but its not on par with our requirements of questions

user165474

That would probably be a better idea.

user165474

user165474
without entering chat

Via API request I guess
Or via a text-only browser.

8:52 PM
Or by disabling JavaScript?
I think those last two just prevent chat from working entirely.

JS has nothing to do with this.

I can't even view the transcript.

Disabling images should do.

A mod can delete from the transcript without going into a room.

@MetaEd The transcript won't load for me. Good luck

I recall you or someone else made an image like that.

When I open the mod flag my browser freezes. Don't flag that.

@DJMcMayhem Disable images and everything's fine.

sketchy much?

At least 6 fig

@mınxomaτ Google Chrome
@MDXF Nice idea, but even if I was able to buy it, these domain names usually cost a lot per year.

user165474
How much does tio.run cost?

I have a .run domain and that's about 30$/y

9:18 PM
@HyperNeutrino $27.30 + $0.18 (ICANN) + $2.90 (WhoisGuard)

user165474
ooo interesting

user165474

user165474
also the dollar sign messes things up because of ChatJax ;_;

Solution: disable ChatJax. :P

but chatjax is cool

9:20 PM
It only makes sense if everybody has it. Everyone else will only see LaTeX.

well, seeing the languages people here use anybody here can parse LaTeX mentally lol

Interestingly, firefox.io is currently $500, but "lowfare.io" trades for >$100k

user165474
ok I'm disabling chatjax

Woah ChatJax has trouble keeping up with ^^

user165474
if I want it I can always use / $ ... $

9:23 PM
@Dennis So are .io domains more expensive than .run?

@MDXF yep

(guys, be proud of me. That was the first time I used the reply-to-previous-message functionality for a real purpose)

@MDXF Not that simple. Desirable domain names are more expensive.

Ah okay
Then why aren't .tk domains expensive? They're so easy to remember and are a common acronym for so many things
:P

Whoever owns the TLD sets the price.
For example, thisdomainnameisntveryinteresting.run costs $3.88.

9:28 PM
It was a joke. .tk domains are free because they're crappy.

user165474
wait can i get a tk domain then

user165474
*where

freenode iirc

@HyperNeutrino dot.tk

tk domains aren't free. They are free for a time, and the Registrar has a history of taking popular domains away from you.

9:29 PM
"Free domains for all!"
@mınxomaτ Yeah, but you can re-register them for free after a year
AFAIK

user165474

Huh Firebase is pretty good
@HyperNeutrino Wait, so your name is Alexander Liao and you called me out for assuming your gender yesterday
:P

9:31 PM
@MDXF tio.tk costs $500 per year. That is $500 dollars away from free.

@Dennis Oh yeah, <4 character names are expensive

user165474
@MDXF ಠ_ಠ 0/10 that was yesterday stop living in the past

user165474

user165474
@Dennis isn't it $523 though? |500 - 0| = 523, you probably get 500 because of floating point error

Oh that's right, these days I can be a girl yesterday, a dude today, a robot tomorrow and an apache helicopter next week

9:32 PM
@MDXF Not sure why. .tk looks sketchy and there are cheaper alternatives.

user165474

StackOverflow did that in the beginning. Then I slowly came to realize... SO sucks

SO is quite useful when something's borked
