@zyabin101 How did ಠ_ಠ fix it? I didn't even think dhje was a mod.

The ninja code of conduct is very strict ಠ_ಠ
@Geobits Fixed.

@El'endiaStarman It's hard not to go for the easy ones sometimes :)

@Geobits Is "dhje" one of those newfangled gender-neutral pronouns that hardly anyone uses?

@El'endiaStarman If by "hardly anyone", you mean just me, then yes. I made it up a while ago because there were too many competing pronouns.

Speaking of which, gender-neutral pronouns are having the same problem as browser standards.

4:02 PM
Exactly ;)

oooh, found a good one:
'E is laughing
I called h'
'S eyes gleam
That is 'rs
'E likes h'/h'self
we'll finally be able to put down words when you only have consonants in scrabble
which clearly makes this one the best

Better yet, let's just get rid of personal pronouns altogether.

How are those pronounced?

> Geobits thinks this is a great idea and is glad Geobits thought of it.

yeah, the h' is tough
but given practice, I think you can make it work

4:05 PM
> A girl must have a name

Too gendery :P

(Yet another meme from a show I don't watch. :P)

huh-POSS-truh-fee

> This one must have a name
Fixed. :P

4:07 PM
Looks legit.

also, only word in english that contains "djhe"

Anyone ever wonder why we don't just use "it"?
I dunno why that word is reserved for animals and inanimate objects

I mean, other than the fact that It is a super scary movie

Apparently 'it' is dehumanizing. That's what people tell me about babies at least.
Even "Is it a boy or a girl?" gets weird looks :/

4:09 PM
I'm sure the parents care way more than the baby does about being dehumanized.

Sure, they always do.

^^
@Geobits confirms, minibits doesn't care as much as geobits.

Just like parents care more about violence, sex, and crime in games and movies.

Every baby is a he until I am told otherwise. Never had anyone even look offended. I've had laughs and "She's a she!"
That may just be a Texas thing though. I think people are friendlier here
We drive on the side of the road to let people pass

Oh, I thought it was because in Texas everybody secretly wished for boys :P

4:11 PM
Are you calling Texas gay?!

I don't think that'd go over very well if I did.

Visual Studio's GUI can't compile C... only C++... and to compile C, you need to use the cl program, which is great except that school PCs don't have command prompts, so it's effectively impossible to compile C11 on Windows without GCC... what the shit, Microsoft
and to use VS2015, Microsoft makes you sign up / in
this is so infuriating, I wish the school computers had an OS that comes with a C compiler like, I dunno, Ubuntu or Arch...
@QPaysTaxes same :P
@QPaysTaxes blargh

Are ya'll from Texas also?

Nah
@QPaysTaxes Scout, Medic, Demo knight man, etc

I was about to suggest a Wizard. Desert circa 1900 blows that option out of the water.
Camel trainer?

"confused blogger"

Time traveler?

Yea, but dhje doesn't know it at first.

All of your current classes have adjectives in front of them lol
So every merchant in your game is lost, every nomad is exiled

Man, I keep playing with this: spielzeugz.de/html5/liquid-particles

So maybe your camel trainer is "Dejected camel trainer"
And then we have "Eccentric time traveler"
Geobits did well with confused blogger

@El'endiaStarman that's so COOL

I've got a XKCD bookmark, but I keep on forgetting that it points to a random XKCD, so everytime I open it up, I think that there's a new awesome XKCD

@El'endiaStarman Interesting effect since the size of each particle is based on its velocity.

@PhiNotPi That's cool, and I especially like the combination of gravity and fluid-like interaction with the particles.

ballroom dance, perhaps?

> Djhected camel trainer.

@Phrancis link?

4:44 PM
@Quill yup, but not with mocha as I'm too lazy to learn that. I wasn't able to get the reports uploaded to codecov but code climate works

Filip Bartošwe can go on dance practicing, I dont want to but my mother says you will need it even as programmer. They have balls also. I disagree with it So can some programmer and I mean actually programmer who works in some medium or greater firm tell me how it is with dancing ? How you used it in your li...

@zyabin101 I personally do not understand the need for private repos :/

@Downgoat private code, eh

@Phrancis they should of asked on code review where it's on topic >:P
@Phrancis what's "private code"?

4:49 PM
@Downgoat It might be on-topic on reddit
@Downgoat Code you don't want the public to have access to

@Phrancis then why wouldn't you just keep it on your computer locally?

@Downgoat because with private repo, you can still collab, just in private with only giving access to who you decide to

Oh ok

@Zgarb thanks for posting on the Tour :)

Also if your PC dies, you're not losing all your private code ;)

5:00 PM
@Phrancis Brb making private repo with all my passwords in a JSON

lolol

@trichoplax waddaya mean? Code Review has been here for a while :P

5:17 PM
@Phrancis Tempted to vote to undelete. Is that bad?

@Geobits yes
privilege abuse eleven

What if I want to undelete it so that I can downvote it and delete it again?

What's the recommended amount of code that should be submitted to code review? Becuase, I've considered doing some code review for my crafting game, but my current code is approaching 1000 lines in total.

I recommend zero ;)

@Geobits still
@PhiNotPi what I've heard from the code reviewers is to post it all
1000 is well under the 64000 character limit

5:23 PM
It should be, unless it seriously needs some review.

@Downgoat I didn't realize the limit was that large.
Is that normal?

no, SE increased it for CR

A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

vaugeSimulate a DNA Computer code-golf DNA computers are very powerful computational models, theoretically able to solve NP-complete problems such as SAT deterministically in polynomial time. Your task in this challenge is to write a program/function that simulates the behaviour of a very simple DNA ...

A few stats about the codegolf.xyz proxy: In the last month, 1719 unique users browsed PPCG using that proxy. A total of 63303 pages were served (~1 GB traffic). Only about 29% of users choose the experimental SSL page. The most active day had 179 users, the least active just 77.

@Downgoat .... you just gave me like 10 emails. gg
and thanks for the tag.

5:34 PM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ @Downgoat ಠ_ಠ

you should really disable emails from github

@Downgoat Eh. It's pointed at my spam account anyway.
I wasn't expecting it to panic when I opened it.

@VTCAKAVSMoACE hey, I got tons from @Downgoat also.

@Downgoat .... you just gave me like 10 emails. gg
but sorry about that.
@VTCAKAVSMoACE brace yourself.

hey, I also got like 6 emails
but yeah, sorry about the spam emails

@VTCAKAVSMoACE okay, should be done until @Downgoat fixes.

"What's the difference between a markov chain and a neural network?"

5:51 PM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ btw, give the changes a minute to take effect, github caches raws

what kind of question is that, they have nothing in common

@Fatalize of course they do

Not really no

Obviously some people aren't sure, so it's a good question!

@Downgoat okay

technical questions would probably all fit on cross validated
non-technical questions will probably be speculative circlejerk

@wizzwizz4 please don't post that link again, stop spamming.

Sorry.

@wizzwizz4 (should've been the link)‮

I'd commit to AI.se if all the answers were written by AI.

there's also data science SE
so basically AI is redundant for technical questions

7
A: This would dilute traffic from CS and the DataScience sites

Eric PlatonI am not sure about this claim. Assuming machine learning is part of AI, data science often sees ML as an application of its analysis results (well, I should cite a few books here). The DataScience project is more focused on statistics and modeling, I believe. On the other hand AI is also concer...

@Fatalize both are series of interconnected states which are weighted based on something

@Geobits like you?

@Fatalize Planning to post that earlier, but thought it might seem spammy. You carried on the topic, so I posted it.
@VTCAKAVSMoACE Stop editing that please, it pings me every time.

5:56 PM
You can ask coffee and/or beer questions on Seasoned Advice, but there are still dedicated stacks for each.

@wizzwizz4 (sorry)

@Downgoat lol, so then the question "what's the difference between spiders and horses" on biology SE would be acceptable to you?
they both have legs

@VTCAKAVSMoACE Just noticed what you did: nice work!
@Geobits Some of them will be...
By the way, have I passed the Turing Test?

@Fatalize asking what's the genetic difference between apes and humans would be a valid biology question

@Fatalize I'm guessing if you narrowed that down a bit it'd be a good question.

^^

^^^

@Geobits that's my point, difference between markov chains and neural networks is a stupid question as is

@Downgoat the fixed worked, but now it looks fugly.

It'd be great if <script> tags could list their dependencies

5:58 PM
@NathanMerrill you should probably check your email....

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ i know, the textshadow fix should take a sec to kick in

my email is open...

@Fatalize Then say that on A51. Recommend something. There are no comments on it.

@NathanMerrill solution: use babel+browserify

@NathanMerrill lucky, me and downgoat were accidentally spamming emails by discussing the PPCG design userscript.

6:00 PM
"What are the differences in models generated by HMM and RNN on identical time series?" would be a more meaningful question
but would be on topic on both data science and crossvalidated

Overlap hasn't ever been a reason for a site not to exist, unless you can show complete overlap. Even then, my example of coffee.se still stands.

the only questions that don't overlap are the ones like this: "How emotional intelligence could be implemented in AI?"
which are as stupid as the questions in the Paranormal proposal

SO used to completely overlap certain sites (like Programmers)

So I take it you won't be committing to the site then? ;)

but adding a site reduced the scope of the original site

6:03 PM
Hell, SO used to include [code-golf] too :P

but we invented [king-of-the-hill], right?

(within SE)

Oh, within SE sure.

6:05 PM
@NathanMerrill you and phi are the main KOTH people. :P

And [code-trolling], lest we forget.

Anyway my point is that this proposal is definitely not aimed at experts

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ ahem :P

6:06 PM
@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ in chat. We're a lot more visible, but there are lots of other users that post KoTH challenges

okay
@Geobits they seem to post mainly KOTHs.
seem though, idk if accurate.

I need to post another soon. I'm second on both the asker and answerer lists :(

how the hell am I in the all time top users in
I don't even answer that much

6:07 PM
I'm #3 asker

@Fatalize ;_; im last

@Fatalize It looks like you're in the all-time list for asking, not in the answerer list.

oooh, is there an overall asking list?

wait
I think it displays your name as last even if you're not in it

6:09 PM
@NathanMerrill Not broken down by tag? I don't think so, except through data explorer.

which is stupid

@Fatalize Oh, right. Yes, it does that.

I got it when @Downgoat said he was last when I'm also last
in fact we both suck

Mego is actually last on code-golf

6:10 PM
For asking. Lynn for answering.

@NathanMerrill bad pun... :P

Does any smart person want to look over this question, so I don't look like an idiot because I confused my terminology?

oooh. @Martin has posted exactly 99 code-golf questions

@Optimizer y u do dis ;_;

its on your forehead

@Optimizer no it's not

oh, btw, I have good news from SE team. We are getting our own awesome site design in November. Its a long wait, but it will be worth it.
13

@Optimizer we already have a beautiful site design

6:14 PM
@Optimizer Oh, you just heard? I posted that a while back. You must not have been in here.

goats are not beautiful :/
@Geobits link or it didn't happen

@Optimizer s/goats/llamas/

I did not say that I have a beautiful design

@Optimizer Sure, give me a few minutes. On mobile.

6:15 PM
@Optimizer i was tslking about the ppcg site not me

@Optimizer I thought that we were still set to graduate in a couple of months

your design has goats in place of vote buttons

August 8th, if I remember

@NathanMerrill we have already graduated :/

@Optimizer only id you enable thay optio

6:17 PM
having that option itself is not beautiful

I don't see why anyone would replace beautiful downvote icons with goats.

trophies for badges? seriously? how much more of a cliche it can be?

@Geobits ill replace them with geobits and antigeobitses, how about that?

Or just wait til November.

@Optimizer as cliche as llamas being smart :P

6:18 PM
that is not a cliche
its not even a thing

^ true

those are just lame goat facts

@Optimizer i know

I heard we'll be getting the design in November, though. From a very good source.

Facts about lame goats, or lame facts about goats?

lol does Sandbox get a badge for that?

@Optimizer says the llama...

@TimmyD the first one doesn't exist.

Hello @QPaysTaxes!

6:20 PM
@TimmyD lame "goat facts" about llamas
hjklk
^ that's not a very good way to define a struct

@EᴀsᴛᴇʀʟʏIʀᴋ 40 more active answers ... there are 2422 total counting deletions

@Geobits not even a single star? I think you have lost our trust after playing the "graduation in November" lie.

@Optimizer Yes, it's a sad state of affairs. Now people won't even believe the truth when it's presented :/

@QPaysTaxes you don't need to free something you never malloc'd or w/e. It will be left there until the OS cleans it afaik

6:23 PM
@Geobits don't worry. I am here to reconfirm.

Good thing, too. I don't want people to be taken by surprise.

@QPaysTaxes: the char array exists as long as thing is in scope
@QPaysTaxes returning a struct returns the whole thing, INCLUDING the char array. So it's a copy

@QPaysTaxes what os thing?
Oh, i missed that

@QPaysTaxes: Yes. a struct is the whole memory making up the struct
(but not things it points to of course, only pointers)
@QPaysTaxes: C or C++ ?
@QPaysTaxes Ok, no smart pointers then. Still, you COULD make it a char* and indeed alloc it, but then you have to track its history and where copies end up to know when to free it. . Or build your program with one of the garbage collector librtaries which makes it easy again

@TonHospel to the rescue!
@BaldBantha i liked the old name better...
Try epicTicTac?

6:30 PM
@QPaysTaxes: Yes, though it's conventional to switch the order of level and name (big things first in general leads to less struct padding and accessing level will need no offset)

@NathanMerrill I'm just hoping it won't die off...

@QPaysTaxes: struct player { int level; char name[50] }

@NathanMerrill <script emokid.js dependencies='none' whywontyoujustleavemealone='true'>

@QPaysTaxes: Probably meaningless here since you don't worry about 50 mostly useles bytes. But generally it makes structures smaller, causing you to use less memory and have more chance of things fitting in cache
@QPaysTaxes: Sure it's a microoptimization and probably premature
Clear code first. optimization never or later if really needed
If padding doesn't matter I usually put importanbt things first. the reader gets tired if he needs to read a huge list of names and starts skipping..

6:51 PM
@Zgarb yeah, I've been posting daily to ensure that it stays to the top of the list

@AlexA. Did you see my message? If I didn't explain clearly just let me know!

@QPaysTaxes answered.

there's nothing like refactoring some code, and seeing how much more flexible everything is

Hey would stackoverflow.com/q/37018833/1541563 be a good question to transfer to Code Golf? I'm not getting anywhere on SO with it and it's been bugging me for a week now.

Yeah, but prepare for dissent.
Technically meta says golfing help is on-topic, but some people disagree.

6:58 PM
@PatrickRoberts yes, you could
but try to refactor the question so it works better with our site's scope

summary: Solve this problem in MIPS assembly in as few lines as possible?

@PatrickRoberts if you want golf help, say so.
Don't try to post it as a challenge.

6:59 PM
Language-specific challenges are strongly frowned upon, though still allowed.
