12:33 AM
Not too many people here, but can we get some help from you guys fighting spam over on Travel.SE?

1 message moved from Fate chat and game room

user61230
Including answers.

@Emrakul Is there any atm? I looked at the most recent posts and they seemed ok.

user61230
These kinds of things need to be flagged down.

Ah, right. They just looked like low quality posts, but apparently they're an attack on the site?

user61230
Yes, it's an attack on the site.

@Emrakul What are our orders, SIR? [clicks heels]

user61230
12:41 AM
>____>

user61230
Kill questions. Get free spam flags. Go nuts!

Sounds like: crap posts from 1-rep users, spam flag them?

user61230
Yeup.

Wow, someone really hates you guys.

I don't have a travel account, so lots of 1 rep spam flags going up lol

12:44 AM
@Nyoze 101 rep, surely?

Wait, I lie. 101 Rep, I forgot about the 100 bonus lol

@Ben It's good to give people some idea of what you're linking to rather than just a link with no context.

Seems to be over now. I don't get why people do things like that :(

(context: we've had incidents recently of links to inappropriate or NSFW stuff being posted without explanation or warning)

user61230

@Ben Lots of Chinese spam. Also, lots of 1-rep users asking for the best tourist destinations, and acting in a circle to answer each others' questions.

Ben
In case people were wondering (I'm not sure if you can see the second image) they were both meant to be a picture of a polar bear "saluting" and "Reporting for duty"

Yep, the second image oneboxed fine.

Ben
Unfortunately my security settings here are messing with my upload settings :/

@Nyoze It is not remotely over.
Chinese spam is still pouring in.

12:48 AM
Yeah, I see now.
I was viewing high rated questions not newest :\

@Emrakul I've hit my flag limit there.

Out of flags :(

Ben
Tag me in!

@Ben

Ben
I think I helped...

user61230
12:53 AM
@Ben Yep.

I'm down to my last flag...things are looking grim...

user61230
@Ben Definitely. @Miniman Still a bit to go...

user61230
Thanks for helping out, guys! (It actually does help. Seriously.)

Ben
Is there any way to block this?

user61230
SE devs are on it.

Ben
12:55 AM
Or are we doing all we can?
Right. all good then :)

@Ben The individual accounts will get auto-perma-banned pretty quickly just from flags, but it's up to a higher authority to prevent them from just making new ones.

Ben
I think it's slowed down...
I still have a few flags left at least

@Emrakul Any idea what brought this on?

user61230
Yeah, devs set a neat thing up. @Miniman This happens from time to time? Usually not like this, though.

Ben
Few more incoming

user61230
1:01 AM
Thanks again :]

user61230

user61230
(Sorry for the disruption, guys.)

@Emrakul It's for a good cause.

Eh, it's not like it requires much time or effort.

Glad to help where I can :)

Ben
1:05 AM
Only problem is that now our chat is half full of dead links :P

user61230
Yeah, sorry 'bout that. Since it's just clutter, I can remove the last block of conversation if you'd like.

user61230
Feel free to hang out in Charcoal HQ, which should pick up most of the spam.

Ben
I am unfortunately out fo flags

Me too, but I'm interested - is Charcoal HQ just an automatic spam detecting room?

Seems so.

user61230
1:10 AM
Charcoal HQ is a room for a couple bots that have a number of built-in heuristics for detecting actionable posts - not just spam (though that's mostly what it's detecting at the moment).

user61230
Any objections to erasing the last bit of the transcript, since it's off-topic spam-fighting chatter?

Burn it all :P

Wat?
You mean in this chat?
Leave it, it's useful to know about.

user61230
Fair enough.

That makes sense actually lol

1:14 AM
(Since when was "off topic" a thing here anyway?)
3

Ben
They're not giving up easily :/

@BESW I know right
On topic, ha
Being on topic sounds like HERESY to me
And you know how we treat heretics
We make awful first person shooters about them

@Sandwich Huh?

It's a callback to a very very old First person shooter
Named Heretic
Heretic is a dark fantasy first-person shooter video game developed by Raven Software, published by id Software, and distributed by GT Interactive in 1994. The game was released on Steam on August 3, 2007. Using a modified version of the Doom engine, Heretic was one of the first first-person games to feature inventory manipulation and the ability to look up and down. It also introduced multiple gib objects that spawned when a character suffered a death by extreme force or heat. Previously, the character would simply crumple into a heap. The game used randomized ambient sounds and noises, such as...

@BESW Incidentally, I think you meant a random random generator generator.

1:40 AM
@Emrakul Btw, where does the quote in your profile come from? It sounds familiar.

user61230
Bulwer-Lytton

user61230
It was the... 2011 winner in Fantasy?

@Sandwich It wasn't awful. For the time, it was pretty good.

@Emrakul Hmmm, not something I've looked at before. Maybe I've looked at your profile before and forgot about it.

Well yeah it was based on the doom engine
It was no doom though

1:51 AM
I liked the second one :(

man, I went to eat and missed all the action
good show though guys, nice to see team effort

user61230
Looks like the spam should be taken care of for now. Devs found a chicken and squeezed it hard enough that the gods of yore poured forth and crushed the chicken into spam.

user61230
Then ate it.

Ben
Yum
I want chicken now...

I want spam even less now...
@Emrakul Good show sir, I never though it was possible to make me want spam less then before :)

user61230
2:02 AM
eheh, yeah, I know what you mean

user61230
Thanks again, all :]

spam is on the menu at mcdonalds in hawaii...

That... scares me

looking through project notes

2:23 AM
Wow... Remind me not to go to McDonald's in Hawaii :P

spam is very popular in Hawaii, it doesnt poil in the tropical environment
a lot of off grid houses there, no refridgerators

Makes sense I guess :(

i grew up near naalehu
well, for a few years anyway
ive lived in many places, and traveled through more

2:41 AM
@AlexMitan Did you see those messages I left yesterday explaining my prep?

2:55 AM
so, bigger projects: full rpg system(s), complex board games, complex card games
and smaller projects: simple board game, rpg modules, a simple card game... Id like to get Song rounded out by end of year, at least the Prelude Edition
Song is a deck of cards that are used to play 'Song' (Dragon Song Dream Dancer) as well as several other games, dragon poker (alt poker), dream walk(a story telling game for children), dancing gypsy (a variant of canasta) and a couple others
6 suits, 108 cards, characters, weapons, armor, artifacts, very, very abstract, no words
here is a link to the basic design document, Id love some feedback

I like the concept of using your deck as HP.

@Storyteller You may want to enable comments for viewers. Currently it's view only.

if i open comments in that, it gets spammed with immature edits
i have in the past and it was a problem,

Ah, bother.

your thoughts though?

3:16 AM
I don't have any to offer right now, on account of having other things I'm up to.

Ben
Could someone post me a link to a D&D 5e char sheet?
Pwetty Pwease?
Jus t want to print one out

google "D&D 5e character sheet", get site

Heh. I was using "D&D character sheet site:wizards.com"
(no 5e because... well, because Wizards makes all their previous-edition stuff more obscure.)

Ben
Thank you :)

> Both sides now. You can use Notice to see the other side of solid objects (but just their other sides, not anything beyond them).

3:22 AM
@BESW And, per tradition, hosts a regular link burning every few years. No link may survive intact!

@BESW what is this game with posting songs and stuff they do?
you do it all the time

@Storyteller Fate

@Storyteller BESW and I sometimes dump Fate stunts into chat that we make up on the spot.

@Storyteller The song title thing is only as of Monday:
yesterday, by Nyoze
I want to make a Fate party based on a band now, and have the stunts named after song names..

@BESW That would be great for seeing whats on the opposite side of a wall

3:26 AM
@Sandwich Or reading an upside-down paper.

Obligatory Morning response to the Morning Thief :)
Read a scroll without unsealing it :)

@Nyoze Greetings, supplicant. Your offering is acceptable.

@BESW Or reading a closed book

But not files in a folder.

@Sandwich Would it work for a closed book? The other side of the book would just be the back cover. Maybe the inside jacket if you're generous?

3:27 AM
Because a book is all one object, and each page is a side; while a folder with loose papers inside isn't the same object as the papers.

Right

Okay then...

You COULD read the info inside of a bound up data packet though

@Nyoze This is one of those "worded to inspire amusing applications during play" stunts.

What about a binder with plastic covers and the files inside?
True :)

3:28 AM
you get Enter Sandman?

> Just another brick in the wall. You are absolutely better at disguises (Deceive) than any human, but you're weak against [something or other]. Also, you get a +2 to Create Advantage with Deceive in creating disguises for people.
Be warned: that music video has creepy imagery.

Bohemian Rhapsody

and I recommend Cinder Alley and Splinters by 16 horsepower

> Enter Sandman. You can use Physique to squeeze through very small spaces by turning into a pile of animate sand.

Yeah, well... It's pink floyd. :P

3:29 AM
I don't really have a stunt description for Bohemian rhapsody

A Perfect Day to Chase Tornadoes

It'd probably have something to do with confusion though

Does it need a stunt description?

(The gimmick is, it's the title, not the content, of the song that I'm using to inspire the stunt.)

Because that songs lyrics make no sense

3:30 AM
@Sandwich They do make sense. :(

Their sense is widely disputed

It's a song about having to live with the fact that he may or may not of spread aids, and he has no idea.

The song is genius though

@Sandwich by fools and malcontents
not really though, i have no idea about that. Away I go to a meeting!

3:31 AM
Is there a skill in Fate that prevents you from getting lost

@doppelgreener Bye!

@Sandwich That would depend entirely on context.

Because if so the song Circles by They Might be Giants would make a good stunt name

Why would you be lost? How are you avoiding it? It's gonna be different if you're lost in the woods at night or if you're lost in a foreign-language city.
But again, I'm going purely by title and not by lyrics for my contributions here.

Because you don't need to walk around in circles

3:33 AM
isnt circles by soul coughing?

Oh wait
I think you might be right

mike doughty

I was thinking of Particle Man
Dang

Yeah thats where I originally heard it
I wish CN still did cool stuff like that

3:34 AM
so, only comment on my card game was liking that the deck was your HP...

Yeah that was a cool mechanic in some card games

i appreciate it, that was one of my favorite mechanics, that and Cycling

There was a Zatch Bell card game where you put your deck into a little book
And every time you took damage you had to flip through pages in your book
If you got to the end of the book you lost

I remember they made a song too
My best friend Plank

3:41 AM
Ahhh, I remember the Groovies. They were great.

youtube.com/watch?v=pyxftLC7gew chick habit, +2 to seduction

@Storyteller Ahhhhh I love this song.

one of my faves
i want a shirt that says Mr Chick Habit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEQNAZGoZrw

Wandering Star, +2 to concealment or hide

I'll be stuck on it and Laisser Tomber les Filles all night now.

cet air la
read the lyrics to cet air la

3:48 AM
My French fu has weakened so much. I should really brush up.

i mean in english
but as you will

I know, but I speak enough French that ostensibly I should understand this. I have translated several of Gall's songs, actually. It's just been... a while. xD

ah
i dont know what that should do... possibly just put everyone in the area in a trance and make them fall in love with you
that song is love

@Storyteller I love this song too, haha.

its like.. my favorite of the last year Ive heard
just totally in love with it

3:54 AM
I think I actually prefer the regular version, but both are good.

this one is 7 minutes of acid jazz
im not sure about the other
but I love thhe way she says Cam-El
and 'cocnut trees'
coconut

Have you heard it? Regular version if not (and for any curious).

k. after this I blow your mind.
this is possibly the most wacked out video I have ever seen, except maybe muscle spark
warning, this is graphic and loud speed metal

@BESW I feel like this could actually be done (terribly) using Markov chains.

But blowing someone's mind is most easily achieved via a bomb on their head! Jet Ninjin is a great song and great video.
(The song is about a super-speed jet carrot soaring through the sky that everyone claims to have seen. Ultimately, someone just misheard the name of a band called Jitterin' Jin.)
@doppelgreener I would love to see this.

4:10 AM
@Pixie very nice!

@Pixie Well let's see... essentially a generator has a formula, breaks those formulae up into phrases, and reassembles those phrases randomly. So a random random generator generator could pick a random source material, look for useable phrases, and build a generator which assembles them in a unique random manner.

@doppelgreener But there's different ways to do that, so you might need a random random random generator generator generator...

Rare Earth: Get Ready... whatever you were goingto do, now happens 20 minutes later...
Preparate!

@Miniman It'll be generators all the way down!
This April March Chick Habit album is superb.

@doppelgreener Her voice is so adorable. TwT

4:25 AM
@Pixie It is!

And ye-ye is fun.
I Was a Ye-Ye Girl (bikini-ish costumes in this).

ye ye?

@trogdor A bouncy French pop style in the 60s. The Chick Habit song posted before is an English cover of a ye-ye song.

ah

@Pixie That was a fun song. :D

4:38 AM
for a minute I thought maybe that song was going to go up through the 70's and the 80's too because it switched to color

[returns to April March - Caribou]

The name ye-ye (technically yé-yé) comes from "yeah yeah," 'cause that's what people would yell.

it was still good, I just thought it would do the thing

this guy is pretty good
into lindsey stirling as well

She's amazing, I love her :)
Speaking of, time to go listen to Shatter Me and get some shopping done :)

4:41 AM
ha, one of the best!
im headed for the faucets myself, see you all in a bit
oh, hey does 'Sail' as well, its boss

user61230
Heh, it's been a while since I've been here. How's everything been over here?

user61230
[waves]

@Emrakul [waves]
Pretty normal, although we had an unusual case of solicitation this morning.
Some guy being like "Spam flags plzzz"

@Emrakul You were in here just earlier!
Someone has neuralised you...

user61230
@Miniman Wow, what a jerk.

user61230
4:46 AM
@doppelgreener I wasn't, I swear! [hides]

@doppelgreener lol

5:00 AM
so, good site for playtesters and feedback?
i think Iwill make that an actual SE question

user61230
Mm. That's liable to be put on hold as primarily opinion-based or too broad.

6
Q: How do I find playtesters?

Rinari7Obviously the first tester group would be your own group. But beyond that? It would seem to make sense to have at least more than one group test out your game, as different groups want different things and play differently. Fresh eyes find different bugs, etc. etc. Are there resources out there ...

5
Q: Where can I find online playtesters to test encounters before presenting them to my group?

Ben-JaminI'm setting up the end of my campaign and I have 4 "mini-boss" fights (& Final BOSS fight) that I'm trying to make extremely tough but also winnable. I don't want to just slaughter my PCs after all their hard work to get here but I also don't want to just spend the whole fight pulling my punches...

Game Development is specifically for video games...

7
Q: Creating my own RPG but having a hard time. Need advice

mister misterI've been playing tabletop RPGs for 20 years and I finally mustered the courage to create my own RPG. The problem is that I've gotten very discouraged as of late. I asked my local gaming community and friends if they would review what I had so far and give me feedback. It's been two months sinc...

(I'm done, I promise.)

ok, i might get flagged as duplicate, funny, none of those came up as I was typing

5:03 AM
Board & Card Games includes development in its aegis.

cool
damn, question already voted down :(

@Storyteller You asked it without capitalisation, and asked about stuff that's entirely off topic for our site.

@Storyteller Even within a single RPG system there's a big difference between sources for, say, adventure module feedback and class design feedback--and we have no idea what "good" means for you.

Both in combination look a bit worse than both together.

@doppelgreener your site? isn't it everyone's? I take you were the downvote then?

user61230
5:13 AM
Nah, the downvote was actually mine. Please don't take it personally, though - it's not meant as a criticism of you.

user61230
The edit you just made is definitely an improvement, but it's still got a bit of a ways to go until we can helpfully answer it.

user61230
Have you taken a look through the questions Miniman suggested to see if those answer your question? They may, at least, help clarify what you're more specifically looking for.

yes. and most of them are... not very helpful, or I get one link in a wall of text

@Storyteller I was not the downvote. (That's never really a safe assumption to make.)
And yes it's everyone's site, that's why I said "our".

there is good overall advice, but its specific to those questions
Im looking to get a list of site links on that post
or other resources

user61230
5:16 AM
Ah, then you may be looking for something Stack Exchange isn't designed to provide.

Emra said it was his
I think its a perfect thing SE could provide

SE doesn't do list questions, generally.

ah
seems odd

37
Q: Why are "shopping list" questions bad?

PëkkaMy question was closed for being a "shopping list question", even though it was absolutely on topic and programming related. Why?

Not RPG.SE, but I think the answer there is just as appropriate to us.

ah ok
i see what they mean, things get outdated and change
like you couldnt list theForge, because its defunct now

5:22 AM
It's not so much the links breaking that's a problem here (we have lots of questions that can be quite vulnerable to link rot), it's the whole "endless list where everything's about right and there's no actual solution and voting's irrelevant" thing.

so, if Im looking for something temporal or subjective, I should ask in here instead?

user61230
Mm. Even the best list questions become outdated over time.

user61230
That's an option. Forums are also another good option.

SE is unique... its -not- a forum, but acts like one

user61230
Yeah, it definitely took me a while to wrap my head around.

user61230
5:25 AM
It's deceptively forum-like in a number of ways.

@doppelgreener Yeah, I think this is the bigger factor. It tends toward the "quantity over quality" thing we want to avoid.

questionablecontent.net There was a shadowrun joke today
I'm shocked

Stack Exchange is the * in the middle ^

well, I know nothing about digg or reddit other than Ive never used digg and the 3-4 times Ive looked at reddit I ran away quickly

5:38 AM
@Sandwich New comics to keep me occupied, thanks :D

Oh god if you read that from the beginning it will take forever Nyoze
It's not as long as Schlock mercenary but its LOOOONG

QC is pretty good

Schlock mercenary is long with at least twelve O's

@Sandwich I have a looooooooooooooooooooot of time at work :(
Notice more then 12 os :(
I read XKCD from the beginning what... 3 times?
I never managed to get all the way through Cyanide and Happiness :(

I like one specific artist from C&H

5:48 AM
ive further edited that question to pertain to industry best practices

@Sandwich The problem with SM is as soon as you finish reading it you end up starting all over again.

SM?
Oh yeah
Schlock
Right

@Nyoze Be ye warned, some of it is sorta NSFW. See the name.
The comic deals with mature sexually active adults.

@doppelgreener you mean immature sexually active robots

@Storyteller Not having read it, I'm not aware of that part of Questionable Content.

Is it verbally NSFW or visually NSFW?

verbally

Oh that's fine then.

qusi-safe for work
quasi

You do know you can edit chat messeges, right? :P

oh my god
wow
this is Halloween, yes please

October is actually my favorite month

Same.

even though November and December are right after it

6:34 AM
@Pixie I like this group :)

I think The Nightmare Before Cristmas, Halloween itself, and my birthday all have something to do with it

October, aside from Halloween, is fall at its best where I live.

I have no fall
here it is "rainy season" and "dry season (he is usually lying to you, it rains often enough anyway)"
(stupid dry season, though comparatively it still is "less" rain)

We are humid continental, all four seasons. October is definitely when fall is in its prime, and that's my favorite season, so. xD

"Humid Continental" is a decent band name.

6:45 AM
Morning
@Pixie I see this and I can't help but think about Animal Crossing
@trogdor England

yes, I have had it compared that way

1 hour later…
user61230
8:10 AM
I want to play this character at some point (YouTube link).

8:25 AM
@user2988069 Hi! You'll need at least 20 rep on any one Stack Exchange site before you can type in chat rooms, but you're welcome to hang out until then.

8:42 AM
Tonight's Kale Week dinner is very simple: mashed potatoes with onion, carrot, kale, and sunflower seeds. Flavoured mostly with garlic and pepper.
