Cast protect on boss. Summon Wakka with Official Ball or Vanille with Deprotega Rod to hit boss. Cast protect on boss again. For the next 15-30 seconds, boss will have basically zero defense.

I don't have Protect yet. Can't remember what my Wakka has and I don't have Vanille. I'm only like uh... 13-14 with most of my characters.

Bard is good once you get the 4* Bard weapon from an elite that's a ways off. Gordon, Snow, Warrior of Light, are good options for non-event characters.

Like there's an exploit in Trove to skip the middle encounter in shadow dungeons by putting a portal through a wall with a certain class and everybody just skips it to get to the boss loot as fast as possible

Which sucks because the middle thing is fun

As to how the defense exploit works, it's because protect doubles defense, the debuffs halve it, and then casting protect again doubles it and cancels the debuff, but it doubles a value of zero or something. It's dumb coding, and apparently just got patched out of the Japan client today (though there've been workarounds for months of bosses being immune to protect or resistant to defense Breaks to prevent it from being used.

But none of those are in place on any of the current content, so it's total cheese mode.)

The other thing you should know about is Retaliate.

Annoys the shit out of me in MMOs but otherwise I guess who cares

Give Cloud Retaliate, and all of your best equipment. Give other party members Boost, Armor Break, and Double Cut. Put all party members that are not Cloud in back row. Boost Cloud, Armor Break Boss, and then have Cloud use Retaliate and all of your PartyMembers attack Cloud - preferably with Double Cut.

The attacks against Cloud will miss, and Cloud will 'counter' against the boss - twice if you used double cut on him - at full strength with all of the buffs you used.

(Also works with Cyan who you might have, and Sephiroth, who you probably don't.)

Yeah, retaliate gimmicks are one of the main strats for hard bosses because you mitigate a ton of damage by being in the back row and it turns all of your characters - even the mage who's out of spells - into the equal of your strongest physical attacker.

I played a lot (read:Way Too Much) Airborne Brigade back when that started but it became progressively more and more IAP-focused, so I ended up quitting.

Ffrk is refreshing in that the thing you want the most - more characters and cool spells - is not IAP locked in any way ever.

The only thing you get for money is stamina refills, continues, and gear.

And the game gives you plenty of Mythril and event rewards to not need to spend much on those.

(Though the current 1 dollar relic pulls are a good deal, I guess.)
