Has anyone else noticed that the @font-face for AU only includes the Ubuntu Regular typeface, so when viewing on a computer that doesn't have the ubuntu typeface installed, bold is really annoying?
@Mateo Hmm... In Firefox bold works properly, but it's odd. Look at the edges. Do you suspect the rendering engine is doing this in Firefox automatically?

From your question and the following comments it is clear that tar is installed but the executable /bin/tar is missing. You need to add it manually as your dpkg will not work without tar.
First check the following files are already there,
ls -l /etc/rmt
ls -l /usr/lib/mime/packages/tar
ls -l /u...
