3:00 AM
i just cancelled my server

Oh. :( No more MC?

sorry pi, my minecraft server is dead.

Darn.
Why?

too expensive

:( Sad. Wish I could help...

3:01 AM
you wanna pay $70 a month?

Ouch. Nope
Aren't there others for less?

so, anyone want the root password?
have some fun.

Heh. Wouldn't they have re-set it yet?

the 8th, utc

Ah. So, the server is online until then?

3:04 AM
yep
but i'm finishing backup now

Well, maybe I can get one set up on my Pi. (If I ever get A: a domain & B: Minecraft)

ha lol nope

Wishful thinking.

@NathanOsman Hello George Edison

3:09 AM
i found his old name. =]

@pacificfils Hey.

i found it. =]
you owe me a prize...
@NathanOsman you also wrote powerpad

I started that one about 6 years ago.

@RPiAwesomeness How bandwidth intensive would it be?

@pacificfils Ruby or python. Python is probably your best choice

3:12 AM
I can see most regular systems being able to run it, other than bandwidth and latency

your bio in June 14, 2010
I love developing software :)

I do most of my work with C++, though I have done a fair amount of web programming with PHP. I work a lot with wxWidgets and am also learning Qt.

Did I mention that I hate Internet Explorer? Don't get me started... (see this post)

If you are looking for a good text editor, I highly recommend PowerPad.
(Yes, I wrote it.)
on jan 28, 2011, you had 9573 rep.
jun 14, 2010 rep was 5,856

@JourneymanGeek Not sure. I'm thinking more the processing power on the Pi.

@JourneymanGeek What's Aibobot for?

@Jeremy: at the moment? Mostly doing suggested edits on SU if I'm not completely sure.

@JourneymanGeek I see. Is it acceptable to edit an incorrect post to make it correct? I'd reject an edit like that as radical or invalid edit (depending on the situation)

3:19 AM
Usually I'd prefer to comment

So when Aibobot responds, don't trust it? Or is this a way to preserve your reputation? I'm not sure I understand. Why not prepend "I'm not sure, but I think..." to the beginning of comments you're unsure about?

cool. silver badge.
what?

@Jeremy: its mostly so that I don't abuse my high rep, oddly enough
In some cases I want to have my edits reviewed

I see. Interesting.
Though I agree with what you said previously. If you're not sure about editing somebody's post, leave it in the comments.

this would be wierd crap like superuser.com/questions/663959/…

3:25 AM
That seems like an SO question
Unless he's actually wondering about how to use excel under that context

he was using a nonstandard abbrivation for pounds ;p
so the edit added clarity, but I wouldn't consider it a majorly substancial edit.

Yeah I see

well, that is orginal

@mateo got that one
Oh, on my last one the Q is also off-topic

oh, there is another spam in the same one

4:01 AM
Has anyone else noticed that the @font-face for AU only includes the Ubuntu Regular typeface, so when viewing on a computer that doesn't have the ubuntu typeface installed, bold is really annoying?

Yeah, I never looked into why..

hm, never did (probably because I have ubuntu font on my machines)

Well I looked into why. The @font-face is only including the regular typeface

Anyway, I'll be in the reg room for a bit.
Flesky keyboard is nice.

@Jeremy That might make a good meta question feature/bug/design request

4:04 AM
And I'll be downloading the ubuntu font so I don't have to deal with this anymore
@Mateo I did a quick search and it seems like people have identified this issue but it's never been fixed

@Jeremy what does yours look like without?

I'm going to do a quick troubleshoot session, then I may post something

eew

AU fonts have quite a few issues.
Might wanna stalk and ping @Jin about it.

4:08 AM
Troubleshooting first

@FEichinger I like it when it works...

To make sure I've properly ID'd the issue

Hi!

Meh... general room stuff, normally.

@Sparkle stuff generally about ubuntu
goings on about the site, projects, what people like to code in as seen over on the star wall --->

what you ate for breakfast ~ maybe.... maybe not

4:16 AM
@Sparkle Weird people with "@" in their name ...

@Sparkle you live "here" too?!

5 mins ago, by Sparkle
@Jeremy is the name of my room mate ;-)

well, careful you can approximate location from timezone by when you eat breakfast O_0

@Sparkle But not "@Jeremy" ;)
@Mateo I beg to differ. I have my "breakfast" at around 2pm local time.

@FEichinger hey, that might be right around mine in my time

4:25 AM
@Mateo Hmm... In Firefox bold works properly, but it's odd. Look at the edges. Do you suspect the rendering engine is doing this in Firefox automatically?
/trying Opera

@Jeremy woah, that is worse than mine

@Mateo Which is why I suspect Firefox is doing it all by itself
And not using the bold fontface
(which there isn't to my knowledge)
Back to debugging

without the font?

@Mateo What do you mean?

@Jeremy the bold ubuntu not installed?

4:27 AM
@Mateo Yes.

but could be anywhere around that line up/down
@Sparkle there aren't many that are too bad, there is ignore button just in case (not too many times I had to use)

Q: Ubuntu bold font not imported

JeremyThe Issue Recently I noticed something odd: when booting into OSX and visiting AskUbuntu, bold fonts render oddly. I've only noticed this in Chrome; in Firefox and Safari, the bold font renders perfectly fine. For example, the following markdown (taken from the markdown help page): *This is ...

hm
apparently ubuntu's repos have horrid ipv6 support :/

8:48 AM
@JourneymanGeek Ah! Solved tomorrow's problem!

I've told it to favour ipv4 addresses
which is an ugly dirty solution, but it works

@Sparkle hi welcome here
@JourneymanGeek I a very happy

I've always wondered if it is possible to use the keyboard in terminal, for selecting some text and "middle clicking" to paste?

Q: Unable to suggest edit

Varun DasI'm having a problem that from now on I'm not able to suggest edits to the Askubuntu site. I'm pretty sure that the edits I have been made were relevant and I want to know whether some user is able to restrict me from that. Please help!

anyone there?

yes i am

i'm not able to suggest edits

^^ @VarunDas

11:08 AM
@VarunDas you must ask a mod, why this is happening. Contact to a moderator

who is a moderator?

moderator is a one, who is the King of AskUbuntu
He can do anything!
Contact them all and talk to them in Chat

Portal 2 done!

@Windows8 how to contact them?
How to contact the moderators?

@Oli @VarunDas want's mod help.

11:20 AM
@Oli can't suggest edits

I couldn't play Portal 2 as soon as I heard Stephen Merchant...
Totally lost it for me.

@Greg Wheatly was funny though

@VarunDas just ping them like i do and they will contact you.
@Oli
@
ping them all
@AmithKK My PC crashed

@Windows8 ?
Coding?
Python
Then there's messing with metasploit
@Windows8 designing? :P
Nothing now :P
Let boards get over
Not too hard :P
Ah yeah, didn't update that
@Windows8 For the domain? yes. For hosting? No.

Why are you deleting all your messages?
Hindi

11:38 AM
@AmithKK I am dont want to left my traces behind

-_-
haa
ttyl

11:53 AM
I don't know if this is funny or not. But that is exactly why SE forbids deleting too many own questions.

jrg
Uhhhh....
Imagine how this looks for a moment. You have a user named Windows8, who is in a Linux-related chat room, who has deleted all their messages.

Can we all agree this is odd?
4

@jrg We were just tallking about off topic questions ;P
I thought if someone will feel that i am impolite that why I deleted those messages

jrg
@Windows8 That's fine - I do that all the time. This is the Ask Ubuntu general room, which is for general discussion of Ubuntu and variants, plus the occasional off-topic jam session.

@jrg okay :-)

@jrg If you managed it to get the ldap/irc thing to work, I'd like to hear how it worked.

12:03 PM
@jrg The user himself is odd ;p

jrg
Basically, the rule is keep the overall topic focused on Ubuntu, but off-topic != banned

@JourneymanGeek O.o

jrg
@johanneskuhn havent had a chance to try yet. Other ldapy things have used up my patience. :p
Hey, keep it nice guys.

@JourneymanGeek what is my real name?

I'd guess its Utkash ;p

12:05 PM
nope

from that incident where I was multipinged out of nowhere.
and the question about zram

jrg
Nope.

Nope.

jrg
But, anyway. This is water under the bridge - just relax, and be chill, cool people.

@jrg why is your name jrg?

12:09 PM
ahh ;p
my apologies then
in which case, I'm entirely justified in saying...
WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE?
;p

jrg
@Windows8 because those are my initials.

@jrg :-)

jrg
I wish I had a cool story about I fought a bear and the bear king gave me this name, but nope.

@JourneymanGeek still can't remember?

nope
and I missed that, and I can't see deleted stuff here ;p

jrg
12:12 PM
Because we all forgot.

of course it was
and geeze, stop deleting so much. ;p

Its all off topic

jrg
It's water under the bridge guys.

Anyone know if Canonical is at CES this year?
Again, off-topix doesn't mean bad. Just means that it can't spiral out of control. Which it hasn't yet.

@jrg :-)
OKay bye, Its 2pm now
Good night

jrg
Ok. Cya

12:16 PM

Any of the mods available right now??
Need some mod powers to be exercised on an urgent basis
@MarcoCeppi: Are you here?

@Aditya I am

He had posted multiple questions and scatter information on the same topic
I have consolidated everything in the following question:
0
Q: How to solve E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)?

rajaI have installed the LAMP Server using the command sudo apt-get install lamp-server^. Thereafter, whenever I open the terminal the following error started to appear: bash: /home/gaja/.bashrccu: No such file or directory bash: /home/gaja/.bashrc: line 4: syntax error near unexpected token (' ...

I want you to close other questions of his except for the one where he has accepted one of the answers
and please clear the comments which are scatter all around

why is this urgent? couldn't you just flag the questions like normal?

It's a mess right now and would take a bit of time for all the members to understand the situation
it would be good if one of the mods could fast-track the situation

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

1:08 PM
what if the questions remain open for too long - a couple of weeks
moreover, this answer needs to be merged with the master question

A: how to solve dpkg: warning: 'tar' not found in PATH or not executable

souravcFrom your question and the following comments it is clear that tar is installed but the executable /bin/tar is missing. You need to add it manually as your dpkg will not work without tar. First check the following files are already there, ls -l /etc/rmt ls -l /usr/lib/mime/packages/tar ls -l /u...

A bounty that asks ' for more detail'... yeah right.

@don.joey meh...

@Braiam is that an agreeing or a disagreeing meh? :D

@MarcoCeppi: Thanks.. please also clear the comments from this question - askubuntu.com/questions/399438/…
Thanks @MarcoCeppi :-)

@don.joey kind of "meh... stuff happens"

1:20 PM
@Braiam I know. Just frustrating because I really researched that answer and the answer that got the bounty just said: use windows.
@Braiam But hey... stuff happens indeed.

hehehe, if that's the only that feasible works is MS's fault not us... I would accept the answer as the only working solution and leave the bounty for the most upvoted answer ;)

@don.joey have an upvote :=)

:)

3 more and my ubuntu layout answer makes 100 :D

zamzar did email me to say they have an API that is about to roll out... That could help for on -the-fly batch docx->pdf conversion...
gtg back to work, cheers

1:27 PM
well, if he stopped using docx it would have been the best...

@Braiam: You have started to irk me with your tag removal stuff... just sayin' :-)

@Aditya those tags needs to die, I can do this with most of them ;)

@Braiam: I am not much into programming, but on that question except for detect and probably del and elements (the last two might be useful, I don't know) all the other tags seem to be useful to me

Babaji on Ask Ubuntu!

oh come on...

1:39 PM
@Braiam Remember, tags are mostly used for searching questions - it's human nature that we should see to see the validity of tags
@jokerdino: Hi

Hi

Jai babaji

haha

@Aditya not here ;)

@Braiam I didn't get you

1:42 PM
Well, first time in a while that I've come on and not had some notification...

That looks like Ubuntu

@don.joey "Let's use M$ Office." - "we have to use M$ Office. Other programs can't open the files correctly." - yes, you got the lock-in syndrome.

@jokerdino It does..what is that?

@jokerdino Is that image (the left side) from one of the movies?

@Aditya Yeah.

1:43 PM
I think I saw that on Reddit where the user said that his code made a debut on movies

@jokerdino Jai Babji

so what he couldn't get into hollywood, atleast his code could :)

Holy cow! Three/four people just left at oonce...

@Aditya I think I remember that instance

Baba ji ka thullu!!!

1:44 PM
Didn't know you are on Reddit xP

@jokerdino I don't post much... just lurk sometimes :)

I lurk all the time.

what are your favorite subreddits

They used real nix comands in Tron Legacy? Now I *really want to see it!

@RPiAwesomeness yea

1:47 PM
@jokerdino One of the reddit posters in that thread had suggested to sue the producers to use his code without permission.. that one was the funniest comment over there..

Favourite ones? Mostly on /r/TIL, r/firstworldanarchists, r/psychology and r/linux.

@AmithKK yea! that one :P

@jokerdino none that i watch..

@Aditya Which I think he declined. He was too happy to do anything.

i mostly look around r/programming, r/learnprogramming, r/python, r/learnpython and sometimes r/ubuntu

1:48 PM
@Aditya What's your preferences?

@jokerdino Yeah..

Python all the way? haha

@jokerdino I am trying to teach myself python for a very long time..

Hm, I remember we were working on a Uberwriter.
@braiam ^

a self-learner... but haven't made much progress..

1:50 PM
You should join a project or something hint

@JourneymanGeek Windows 8 now was Utkarsh previously. I had answered a question and so I know for sure. Just a PSA :)
8

@vasa1: I knew that ;p

Surprise anyone?

Really wish I could convince my firmly mac friend to use Ubuntu. Says he used it in the past, but hated it. Bother it.

That reminds me. I wiped my friend's virus filled Windows 7 and installed Ubuntu. Now he can't watch any .avi files nor can use his USB dongle. He is mad.

1:53 PM
@vasa1 which question?
@jokerdino He is a REAL mad! :P

Yeah, should have named himself Windows 8.

Hi @JohannesKuhn.

jrg
@RPiAwesomeness Yeah, they used a good solid emacs shell

1:55 PM
@jrg welcome back

jrg
and then added some nice bits and pieces

Just pointing to the source of an earlier mentioned picture.

tsk@takkat

jrg
@RPiAwesomeness jtnimoy.net/?q=178

@Rinzwind tsk back - you appear to be able to read thoughts of people ;)

1:56 PM
@Windows8 if I had my say you'd be kicked for this. It is a lie not even Windows users are willing to accept :=)
@Takkat can't you? >:)

@Rinzwind yup! you are right!

@Rinzwind yeah sure - everybody can do that after running Ubuntu for some years. :)

@Rinzwind I also dont like the speed of Windows and also, exe viruses but WIndows is good for newcomers

I am left not right >:D and correct but that goes without saying :D
Or to quote my mother of 67 years "eeeeeeeew those blue blocks are ugly".

1:59 PM
There is not a single OS on this world which is ready for newcomers.

@Takkat correct :-)

I'm on windows 8 right now ;p

@JourneymanGeek You are on @Windows8
