12:00 AM
(and started converting MP4s)

i've wondered if someone is going to make an h264 raspi based render/transcode farm at some point.

isn't that another form of insanity?

I would almost have forgotten my birthday ... if my phone didn't remind me.

h264 is hardware accelerated on the raspi. seems the opposite of insanity to me...but maybe

the raspi's chip is really designed mainly for such things ;p

@pacificfils and for that you win... a quote!
> Cat: We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad.
Alice: How do you know I'm mad?
Cat: You must be. Or you wouldn't have come here.
-Alice and Wonderland
or rather a dialogue..
@Jeremy Very enlightening. guess they're socks then.

@Seth sounds like i made the right decision ignoring utkarsh...
also, this is super interesting: youtube.com/watch?v=cHZONQ2-x7I

@Seth is a quote netherless

12:35 AM
@qwertie - looking at your page with island survival, you need to modify your vegitation generation algorithm a bit. it might be random enough if it were more sparse, but with the density you have, there's not enough entropy to make it not look like a grid of trees of a specified density.

@hbdgaf I'd guess you did

@hbdgaf those trees where done by hand with a brush :P

O_O

@qwertie then it's the brush that's doing it. say you have a scatter brush that puts "drops" at offsets. it still looks like a grid when you're standing in it.

I'm curious now. If I have a consumer router with four ethernet ports that support 1 Gbps, and I plug in a device that only supports 100 Mbps, are all four ports limited to that speed?

@NathanOsman aren't all port different interfaces?

Apparently not. I'm not sure though.
Let me telnet into the router for a sec.

we used to have one that had lights on it, each had a 100 and 1000 light

It's my Raspberry Pi in case anyone is curious. It only supports 100 Mbps (which translates to about 10.8 MB/s in the real world).

@Seth the decision was made to keep an eye on Utkarsh and his potential incarnations for now. When the time is right, the force will act accordingly to his offenses against the Empire.
@qwertie great to see you here!

2:10 AM
@RolandiXor I'm everywhere 0_0 :P

@qwertie :D
Me too

just made this

^ this is everywhere...

@RolandiXor It's definitely an incarnation (webcache.googleusercontent.com/…)

@qwertie wow
@Braiam wth
@Jeremy don't worry, when we are ready to strike, the prey shall be held within the talons.
Oh that one was merged (I wish we could still merge accounts).

2:14 AM
@RolandiXor Are you sure? I thought that was just his old username.

I'd have to double check the date.

@RolandiXor 203575
Windows 8 is 204653

Yeah it was merged with his current account.

> The SSD works very good, but some people write its not a good idea to install an operating system on an SSD.
I feel so trolled

How many accounts does he have? jeez

2:17 AM
@Braiam that is such a lie lol
@Jeremy I am honestly not sure.

@Jeremy 203575, 204653, 231631
And that's just the ones that were figured out by now.

no matter how many times I do it I never remember how to link css to html. :P

@RolandiXor can you change the close reason of this? the dupe don't actually answer the question and is more like opinion based since everyone has their own HDD/SDD scheme

@Braiam I'll check it out

@FEichinger don't forget 231638

2:24 AM
@Mateo What the fluff, there's two of them?!

@FEichinger He actually answered and accepted 2 of his own questions with a suck-puppet

@Braiam that was his other user of the same name... so far he hasn't done anything with this one

err... why are we closing this again? askubuntu.com/review/close/205806
wait, there's a freaking support tag????

"custom distro" aka not ubuntu

oh...

2:29 AM
@Braiam It's about support-for-Ubuntu, not "support".
The tag, that is.

@FEichinger that's release management tag, the releases support dates and stuff

@Braiam
Not my fault it's what it says.

@Mateo How'd you find that?

Cool @Roland

@FEichinger bad tag.. could be used for question "I want support in my windows system"
also... there's a meta tag called... err... support...

Gerrit-JanThis morning I'm only able to login as guest, not as the the main user. I don't have a clue what possibly might have changed or is causing this. Can anyone help here?

@Braiam Well, that's what the wiki excerpt is supposed to prevent.

@Seth close the question as unclear while we are at it ;)

Good idea, then we don't have to protect it.

I am going to watch a star trek movie tonight.

@RolandiXor don't you dare.... you will be our slave tonight >:D

Generations!
I love that one.

So far, I like all I have seen :D

Oh, insurrection Is awesome too

I kind of like the one where Riker jettisons the warp core but the rest isn't so exciting.

I'm starting to hate this Android keyboard...
Catching data is cool :p

2:47 AM
@Seth Which one do you use?

I'm trying flesky out right now

@Seth Never used it. I found Google Keyboard to be very well at handling typing

I like the keys, but its "smart" corrections aren't so smart

Is that Google or Flesky?

Flesky

2:49 AM
I see. Have you tried the google one?

I might go back to googles keyboard

Q: SD card reader not working on Elmentary OS

jservs7I have a Lenovo S210 with a Realtek card reader installed (rts5139), but it does not work. When I run dmesg in terminal, I get the following pertaining to the rts5139: [ 8.802265]...

@Seth Which phone do you have?

Yeah, its the default one
It's a hp slate 8 tablet

Oh okay.
I've found samsung's keyboards to be truly awful

2:51 AM
Definitely
Hmm. Googles prediction isn't so bad.
I just wish the keys were bigger

Wouldn't know. They're big compared to my phones default
Look how awful that is:

Yeah I've used it

The only thing I like are the numbers at the top. The keys are awfully small and autocorrect is terrible

You should try a. I. Type
bbl

Keyboards like those are sketchy, no? Reminds me of Go keyboard.
Okay, bye

2:58 AM
@Jeremy Samsung's keyboards are terrible. Agree 100%.
Install Google's keyboard if you can. It's easy to use and works great.

10 mins ago, by Jeremy
@Seth Never used it. I found Google Keyboard to be very well at handling typing
Google's is my favorite this far

The Samsung keyboards work on the tablets.

Also, this way the NSA knows what I'm typing and doesn't have to go through Verizon. Google will give it right to them.

Not so much on the phones.

One other good keyboard: Hacker's Keyboard. It works great too.

3:31 AM
And has pipes
@RolandiXor What kind of engines does that have?
This is cool:

Q: Produce the number 2014 without any numbers in your source code

Joe Z.So, now that it's 2014, it's time for a code question involving the number 2014. Your task is to make a program that prints the number 2014 without using any of the characters 0123456789 in your code. The shortest code (counting in bytes) to do so in any language in which numbers are valid toke...

@Seth Gotta love codegolf

I liked the first . Every one that followed was bogus, though.
5
A: I need a program where the user inputs an array of doubles and the program outputs the array sorted

JeremyThis is actually pretty hard. Since most programming languages don't have built-in sort functions, we need to get a little bit creative. To be honest, looping through all of the values in the array simply to sort it out doesn't seem practical. It wastes too many resources and puts strain on the u...

(I used CSS to sort the array... xD)

(You technically only used the position attribute to sort)

@Seth date()

Wrong; this adds basically nothing to the site since it's so similar to all the other questions in the flood of code trolling. It's not even high quality enough to be a code trolling question... — Doorknob of Snow 2 days ago

3:45 AM
@FEichinger I technically used the left attribute =/

most amusing comment ever!
> It's not even high quality enough to be a code trolling question

@Jeremy Among the CSS stuff, I mean.
32
A: Produce the number 2014 without any numbers in your source code

xfixPHP (9 bytes) xxd needed because of binary data (so copying and pasting it would be easier). May return E_NOTICE, but it doesn't really matter, does it? ~ $ xxd -r > 2014.php 0000000: 3c3f 3d7e cdcf cecb 3b <?=~....; ~ $ php 2014.php 2014

@FEichinger Ah, okay. It was the styling that sorted it though. The point is nothing is actually being sorted... which is what is, right?

93
A: I need a program where the user inputs an array of doubles and the program outputs the array sorted

PhiNotPiPerl Out of all of the things I've done for CodeGolf.SE, this probably took the most time, at least a few hours. $_[0]=eval<>; for(0..$#{$_[0]}**2){ @_[$#_+1]=[\(@{$_[$#_]}),$#{$_[$#_]}+1]; for(1..$#{$_[$#_]}-$#_){ if(eval('${'x$#_.'@{$_[$#_]}[$_-1]'.'}'x$#_)>eval('${'x$#_.'@{$_[$#_]}[$_]'....

Epic Perl.

@Jeremy Arguably, code trolling should still produce the desired result, just in a completely pointless manner.
@NathanOsman That one was perfect.

3:47 AM
@pacificfils that works

@FEichinger It sorts it visually. But not any way else.
And it sorts to scale (visually, at least)

@Braiam What's up with that?
Code Golf is weird.

@Jeremy Yep, and that's why it's fine. It does sort. But it doesn't really use CSS for the sorting. The only relevant CSS operation is setting position to absolute.
Everything else is DOM manipulation through JavaScript. (And CSS is also just DOM manipulation, so no, changing the style values is not CSS.)

okay =/

@FEichinger I was under the impression that he was using CSS just to make things more pointless...

3:52 AM
@Braiam Code trolling should be convoluted, yes, but the convoluted parts should be relevant to the solution.

@Braiam His point is I don't use CSS to sort

I can fill code with tons of redundant pointless if-loops, but that wouldn't change a thing about the relevant parts of the code.
Same thing here with the CSS (except for the position attribute): There's no need for it, for the solution to work.
It's a neat solution and could actually be useful for some stuff, but there's a lot of it that wouldn't qualify as code trolling in my opinion. :P

segfault might be a bug... too...

Eyefinity is cool.

4:24 AM
@vasa1 I remember you now!

I've asked the mods to do something about Windows 8 aka whatever else. I really can't understand why this person is allowed access to any aspect of Ask Ubuntu.

No need to talk about people who are present in third person.
Even if they pretend to be four persons.

wait, not even Jon Skeet managed to be the Fourth person... yet

@NathanOsman Interesting. It was up just a few hours ago.

4:53 AM
@Windows8 Oh, please ... This is ridiculous.

@FEichinger am i doing something wrong?

Q: How to resolve conflicting information about "Chrubuntu" policy/status?

Eliah KaganMy understanding is that we do not currently consider Chrubuntu to be an unofficial derivative (or even a separate derivative at all), and that the current consensus is not to close questions as off-topic for being about a problem on a Chrubuntu system. @FEichinger actually, I'm wondering if this is a possible SO question

@JourneymanGeek Huh?

oh, we have a user who is potentially disruptive as a whole, yet, not flaggable? ;p

That wouldn't be an SO question, but an MSO question :P
But he is very flaggable. Sockpuppetry on a big scale.
Also: If someone disrupts the room dynamic, we're allowed to flag that, too.

my bad
oh, the sockpuppetry is a whole different, and very actionable issue
@FEichinger: what's there to flag tho?

Why doesn't HDMI Ubuntu-TVwork? Can someone help me troubleshoot?

@Mochan it works on 3 different boxes here 1 ATI 2 NVidia ... all 3 worked almost out of the box.

Oli
@Mochan It should.

@Oli It doesn't ;_;
@Takkat Do you mean as in 1 ATI computer and 1 Nvidia computer?

Oli
@Mochan Have you opened a question explaining what hardware you're running and what you've tried?

1 ATI 2 NVidia, yeah.
Do the monitor setting detect you TV?

11:39 AM
@Oli I haven't because there are plenty of questions about the same thing and I thought it might be too localized? ;\
@Takkat It did when the HDMI cable in my TV wasn't connected properly, but now that I've tightened it, it doesn't anymore.

^^ that's weird - do you have another cable to try?

@Takkat Nope :<
I know the cable works though because I had it connected from my TV-PS3

Oli
What's the TV?
Ie, do other people have problems with that particular make/model?

@Oli I don't think so.
I have no idea of the model .-.

@blade19899 Yeah there's a meta that's featured/pinned already.

I don't own another though ;\

Tried to plug it the other way 'round?

@Takkat Ooh, my laptop detects the TV!

And now I feel old.

I don't know how :

@Oli I don't even know what that is!! hahaha

Oli
@WilliamHilsum df and htop would be my run-to commands. (edit: but if you can't log in at all... Yeah, not sure they'll help!)
Do you have an out-of-band login method? KVMoIP to a TTY or some-such...?

@Oli It looks like the drac has either crashed or become non responsive :(

12:44 PM
@WilliamHilsum try using ssh user@domain /usr/bin/htop instead

Oli
Think you'll need a -t in there too for that... Could be wrong.
Yeah, otherwise it'll bug out... ssh -t user@host /usr/bin/htop

I'll try
freezes :( / doesn't seem to do anything after I type the password

@WilliamHilsum try with -v if everything fails

and with -vv?

does the -v have to be somewhere special? did it after htop and got same result
-vv at the end doesn't do anything
