Richard Rolle's poem, which in turn is predated by English religious art, e.g. in the Canterbury Psalter circa 1200 and mosaics, which refer not to the Garden of Eden, but to Gen 3:19, with Adam literally diggging into the Earth and Eve spinning, as in making a thread by twisting fibres
