@Mahnax affixes gold star to your forehead
I apparently cannot say that I know enough html to be dangerous

@simchona yes, exactly.
But it is entertaining.
To be earnest..it is a very reasonable question (for someone in the 6th grade). Part of mathematical reasoning is learning to play the game (ignore all the goofy real world crap and just apply the rule). Which is the opposite of humanities reasoning which is following numerous paths and eliminating the uninteresting ones (I guess; I wouldn't actually know not being good at the latter)

howdy @Mitch

howday

@Mahnax I see no <p> tags

See how thoughtful and insightful I am? I'm trying to hold back mild epithets about mental capacity

5:14 PM
hey @cerb I finally tried my slicing thingy. that thing saves a lot of time! If you're making scalloped potatoes, that is.

does it slice, dice, and make julienne fries?

@MrShinyandNew安宇 you're the 91 time knifing guy?

@Mitch no, that was stabbing, not slicing.
And it was only 10 stabbings... in a base-91 numbering system.

@cornbreadninja You may not be able to control their presence, but they are there.

5:23 PM

I can't believe you guys jinxed on a screenshot of html code

:5122452

@MrShinyandNew安宇 Me neither…

The McCarthy 91 function is a recursive function, defined by the computer scientist John McCarthy as a test case for formal verification within computer science. The McCarthy 91 function is defined as :M(n)=\left\{\begin{matrix} n - 10, & \mbox{if }n > 100\mbox{ } \\ M(M(n+11)), & \mbox{if }n \le 100\mbox{ } \end{matrix}\right. The results of evaluating the function are given by M(n) = 91 for all integer arguments n ≤ 100, and M(n) = n − 10 for n ≥ 101. History The 91 function was introduced in papers published by Zohar Manna, Amir Pnueli an...

5:25 PM
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Oh, that's great.
You haven't used it before?

yeah, for stabbing people.

That is...hard.

you get better numbers with it, lots faster, up to 91 of course

@Mitch holy crap, this must be the thing they used to count the stab wounds

oh you have to take it out of the holder first.

5:28 PM
The blade?
I didn't know it was pointy.

my slicy thingy doesn't have a removable blade. It's just a cheap one.

So you like it?

so if the victim didn't struggle much I could probably slice them 91 times

Why have you never used it before?

@Cerberus I don't often cook the sort of thing that requires uniform slices like that.

5:29 PM
@MrShinyandNew安宇 s/victim/food

But today I wanted to make scalloped potatoes

Any other kind of slices?

well, my slicer has only 3 settings
scalloped potatoes, french fries, and julienned fries, I guess

What if you want to slice onions, carrots, leeks...?

@Cerberus today was the first time in maybe 6 years that I sliced an onion. normally I don't eat them. same for leeks. And carrots are too hard for the slicer, I usually just use my knife.

5:34 PM
Why no onions or leeks?
Tomatoes?

@Cerberus they upset my stomach

@MrShinyandNew安宇 Hmm...
I sort of have that too.
But sometimes I still eat them.

I have it pretty badly. I've missed work because of it.

Oh, that bad.
The next day?

So today's scalloped potatoes with onion in them is an experiment.

5:40 PM
Oh, dear...

@Cerberus sometimes for up to 5 days

Really??
Then why risk it?

@Mahnax dang, okay.

I have a new secret weapon, "Beano". I take three pills before eating, and usually everything is ok.

@MattЭллен @Mahnax I owe both of you the beverage of your choice.

5:42 PM
or, if not ok, not nearly as bad as it might otherwise be

y'know, because maybe you don't like Coke.

@cornbreadninja Whatever for?

0
Q: Idioms for enormous scale and great quality

SF.How do you describe "legendary scale" events/entities? One I know is an X to end all Xes Some say X of epic proportions What other idioms or hyperboles could one use for something "extremely noteworthy"?

Why isn't this closed already?

@Mahnax reminding me how to brain as far as HTMLs go
use the source, Luke

@cornbreadninja Oh, haha.
I'll have a virgin Cuba libre, please.

5:45 PM
@Mahnax You mean a Coke with lime?

No, he means a Cuban virgin

Mmm, Cubanas.
My girlfriend has a crush on a Cubana teammate.

frankly I'm not sure what the special appeal of virgins is.

@MrShinyandNew安宇 they are busy rolling cigars on their thighs.

@KitFox Yep!

5:47 PM
@Mahnax why don't you try some of this here 12-year-old single malt scotch?

@cornbreadninja now now, that malt is older than Mahnax

@cornbreadninja Sure, I'll give that a try.

@MrShinyandNew安宇 heh

@Mahnax No! slaps drink away

@KitFox whines

5:48 PM
I'll not have good scotch wasted on ignorant youth!

@MrShinyandNew安宇 Oh, that's interesting!
Are they over the counter?

Drink Everclear or Budweiser if you've got something to prove.

@KitFox it's 12, not 25 :)

Any idea about the working ingredient?

5:49 PM
75 or 95 % alcohol?!

@Cerberus some enzyme

@cornbreadninja Doesn't make a difference to a 15 year old.

Hmmm.

@KitFox I suppose. But anyone should be able to distinguish between 12-year SMS and say, Dewar's spits on ground

Did people text 12 years ago?

5:50 PM
Beano is an enzyme-based dietary supplement that is used to reduce gas in the digestive tract, thereby improving digestion and reducing bloating, discomfort, and flatulence caused by gas. It contains the enzyme alpha galactosidase that breaks down oligosaccharides such as raffinose. It was introduced as a liquid, but that has been discontinued and it is now available only as tablets and strawberry-flavored "Meltaways." Mechanism of action Beano is a product containing the enzyme alpha galactosidase, which is derived from the fungus Aspergillus niger. The enzyme works in the digestive tra...

@KitFox if so, barely. I stole that abbr. for single malt scotch.

@KitFox yes, unless by "people" you mean Americans

ouch

no, I mean, it was popular elsewhere

Withdrawn.

5:52 PM
teehee

...and there'll be no gas

@KitFox I can see how my statement might be misread :)

Damn scare quotes.

Them's not scare quotes. Them's quote quotes. Cuz I was quoting y'all
"scare quotes" out to be in "scare quotes"
not all quotes is scary

Wha—?
Something has gone wacky with my display.

5:54 PM
youse can quotes me on that

Hmm can't find them here.

@Cerberus well, ask your pharmacist

Yeah.
Meanwhile, my phone's stupid internet is not working!!
I have two SIM cards from the same provider.
The pre-paid card works, but the other one stopped working!!

I haven't done a scientific study of this. But I used to have serious problems eating in restaurants or at other people's houses because frickin' everyone uses onions and garlic in everything. But now I take those pills any time I don't know for certain what's in the food, and I have far fewer problems.
@Cerberus two SIMs? so you have two phone numbers?

4.
I only use 1.

Geezis. Decadent as f*ck is right.

I guess you have a spare phone you put your good SIM in when you're using the other one for... whatever it is you use it for?

I have one main number. I'm trying to switch over to number 2. Then I have had number 3 for a long time as a very cheap back-up. Then I have this pre-paid card to test the provider I'm switching over to before making the switch.
My main number has two SIM cards, so I can use the same number in two phones.
So I have 5 cards.

@Cerberus wow, you can do that?

Yes.

5:59 PM
do both phones ring?

No.
Only one can actually do something like ringing or calling at the same time; but if I decide to call someone, I can do it on either phone, and then it becomes active.
So if I go to a party with my small phone, and I forget to turn off my big phone before I leave, and someone is trying to call my, it could be that my phone at home is ringing.

@Cerberus I would get so confused

Naaah.
I normally have my spare phone turned off.

For a guy who insists on convergence, this is like the opposite of convergence :)

But it is very convenient when I want to go out without the big guy, or when my battery is empty when I am at home.
Swapping SIM cards is a pain.
@MrShinyandNew安宇 The size of a device is perhaps the only thing that cannot "converge".

6:05 PM
@Cerberus true. But I'd just go with swapping sim cards, I guess.

If you don't have to?
Meanwhile, I am frustrated!!

@Cerberus why? oh right, one is acting up
heheh

I just want to use the internet on this new card I am considering switching over to.
Is that too much to ask?
It worked for a week.
Today, it does not.

Any idea why it doesn't work? maybe you need to refuckulate the fuckulator

Even though the internet on the prepaid card from the same provider does work!
@MrShinyandNew安宇 It is really a mystery.
It is not the network. It is not my phone.
Let's see whether I can make a call.
Okay, this is weird.
The call comes through, but I heard a very weird beep before it was connected.

6:15 PM
maybe R2D2 is stealing your connection for his nefarious droid purposes

I'm not on Android.
This is trusty old Windows Mobile.

Calls work, text messages work.

We gave the little one an R2D2 action figure for his birthday.

6:16 PM
That's R2D2
he's a droid, and he beeps

The only possibility seems to be that there is some kind of error in this operator's computer.

Because I had one when I was little and I loved it.

@MrShinyandNew安宇 Yeah, yeah, I know.
He's nice.

and he has a phallic extension thingy that can talk to any electronic device
but I don't think he has 'net access

Can his thingy fix my phone up?

6:18 PM
He can fix anything.

@Cerberus yes
Unless he's the cause of your problem, and given the facts at hand, I don't think anyone has a better hypothesis to offer

Then tell him to get started already!
Hrmpf.
I am displeased.

Who agrees that if Cerb were a Star Wars character, he'd be C3P0?

I saw a vanity plate today that read 'UZTH4CE'

@cornbreadninja nice

6:20 PM
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Absolutely. And Bert on Sesame Street.

@KitFox hahahah YES

My little one got a set of Bert and Ernie figures for his birthday as well.

I would be a Space Janitor.

He has this really adorable whispered "ah no" when he doesn't know something.
"What animal is that?"
Whispers "ah no" then shouts "OH! PIG!"
@Cerberus No, no, you wouldn't. frowns

Aww.
@KitFox Why not?

6:22 PM
That's much too modern for you.

I like them.

You'd be some sort of dandy fop.

@Cerberus Have you played Space Quest?

Space janitors are much more modern than robots?
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Nope.
But I have looked at the box in the shop.
It looked nice.

@Cerberus C3PO comes from a long time ago, silly.

6:23 PM
Still not internet, rahhhh!
How long?
Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen.

It was so long ago...

@Cerberus I bet it still works on your ancient computer

It is not a board game?
I remember a board game.

@Cerberus Mine too!

Space Quest is a series of six comedic science fiction computer adventure games released between 1986 and 1995. The games follow the adventures of a hapless janitor named Roger Wilco as he campaigns through the galaxy for "truth, justice and really clean floors". Initially created for Sierra On-Line by Mark Crowe and Scott Murphy (who called themselves the "Two Guys from Andromeda"), the games parodied both science fiction properties such as Star Wars and Star Trek (the theme song itself is a parody of the Star Wars theme), as well as pop-culture phenomena from McDonald's to Micros...

6:27 PM
@KitFox more proof, if proof were needed!

@KitFox Good, good.

Ow ow ow. Is it possible to have carpal elbow?
Frigga, my elbow just started hurting like crazy.

tennis elbow?
have you been stabbing someone repeatedly?

rofl
damn it. how am i supposed to work left-handed?

with difficulty

6:33 PM
why am i such shitty employee?

nah, you're just easily distracted. I'm the same
do you do something to put you in a work frame of mind? Like wear different clothes?
(I take it you're at home)

I am. it's pretty impossible.
usually when i work at home there are no little ones around.
but childcare is all screwed up and i'm having a hard time working without my dual monitor setup.
sounds pretty lame i'm sure

Understandable.
Where's hubby?

at work

@MrShinyandNew: This other guy on the internet has the same problem! He posted it 15 minutes ago.
@KitFox Oh, he works now??
I missed that.
How is it going?

6:40 PM
@KitFox I could not work at work without a dual monitor. it's super important

@Cerberus good. he likes it.
@MattЭллен i am thinking i need to have the same setup at home.

Cool.
Do you guys have more or less stress now that he works too?

@KitFox I sort of do, but my second monitor is old an crappy and off (and was ostensibly free). I might need to upgrade

@Cerberus it been a little crazy, but hopefully i will be able to quit by october or november.

Oh!
Interesting development.

6:43 PM
@MattЭллен i need a docking port, and i think i could manage.
if i had thought of it sooner, i might have just plugged the monitor from my home computer in.
ugh and that reminds me that i have been meaning to upgrade the home computer from xp to 7.
too much stuff.

@Matt: You're fucked...

of course, if i could get $5,000 for training some out-of-state users...
@Cerberus No flirting in chat.

It's his government that's "flirting".
Tell them to knock it off.

@Cerberus you mean the stupid draft bill?
yeah, it's pretty f*ing egregious

Can't you do something about it?
Thankfully, my country seems to be headed in the right direction for once.
If only our two main bullies would be ousted.
Two bad, bad ministers.
What's your May like?

6:55 PM
well, it's still in draft, so it's possible it won't go ahead with enough whithering stares. I don't know - the government want the power to snoop, so they might pass it regardless anything the public say.

omg, omg, raspberry pi ordered

@Cerberus just like the one before her. No technological education, and legislating that blanket monitoring will keep terrorists at bay
@cornbreadninja is the delivery date this century?

@MattЭллен it is due to 'dispatch within 10 weeks'

@MattЭллен But the latest draft even even worse than the previous!

@cornbreadninja good luck! I hope they've got their supply issues sorted

6:57 PM
@MattЭллен thank you!

@Cerberus I think it's pretty much the same. It's what Jacqui Smith wanted, but didn't get because Labour got voted out

@MattЭллен That sucks. At least our leftist parties are now becoming tech savvy. And thankfully so is Kroes, or E. Commissionor for internet stuff.
@MattЭллен Torrentfreak says some safeguards for people have been thrown out, and they want you to pay a fee(!) if you want to contest a warning.
So what's May's background? Any affiliations with business?
