The trick about problem-solving is finding interesting problems to solve; the best are those that provide short- and medium-term insights but lead to a long-term satisfaction because of discoveries that lead to new knowledge and capabilities.
Yet even figuring out a new way to take out the trash yields its rewards.
@DavidWallace Something about your style of thought whenever syntax comes up in discussions. I find it hard to pinpoint the feeling, but maybe it's because I haven't seen you come up with sentences to support or falsify some grammatical analysis.
@Robusto Hmm, I took the hunting to be derived from hunter-gatherer. I find problem-solving inherently rewarding because my mind's comfortable in the “hunting” mode.
@Robusto Umm, it might have been. Do you know when the match was played? Could it have been "rugby sevens" maybe?
The most common form of Rugby football is a 15-a-side game that lasts 80 minutes. But there are two other forms. One is a 7-a-side game that lasts either 14 or 20 minutes. One is a 13-a-side game that lasts 80 minutes.
But if it was NZ vs Samoa, it was probably 7-a-side.
@Robusto NZ played Samoa in soccer a couple of days ago. But I can't imagine you mistaking soccer for rugby football.
NZ last played Samoa at Rugby on 3 Sept 2008. NZ last played Samoa at Rugby League (13-a-side) on 16 Oct 2010. But they had several games of Rugby Sevens earlier this year; so you may have seen a replay of one of these. Sevens is usually played in a tournament with 16 teams over 2 days. It's structured so that each team gets 6 games. In February and March, the teams go all round the world playing one tournament a week.
Many of the tournaments take place in cities that are not normally known for Rugby, including Las Vegas and Hong Kong.
@Mahnax I've never seen it, and I've spent a lot of time in TWO of those three countries.
