@Robusto I still remember putting "best viewed in any browser" on our pages. And how fresh and original and revolutionary it was. That, too, is about 17 years back.
These days people don't even know what a browser is.

@MattE.Эллен If you search for SIM-only plans (without cashback, since that makes it confusing), you see that you can get a plan for 4 pounds a month. So it may be cheaper to buy the phone separately off Amazon or something. moneysupermarket.com/mobile-phones/brands/sim-only/sim-card
Yesterday I learned that "suffice" is səˈfaɪs. Up until then I had thought it was ˈsʌfɪs.
Question for the philosophers: how come after thirty years of listening to English, you'll hear "lol" OVER 9000 times more often than "suffice"?
Like, you'll be able to fill a Bible-sized thesaurus from vocabulary from Seinfeld alone, and make Walter White sing My Way using only snippets from the show, but not even on both of them combined will you ever hear a word as mundane as suffice.
yeah, I want to walk into a shop tomorrow and walk out with a new phone, but only vodaphone are selling the phone and I don't want to be on their network
no, I'm developing the app, so it's going into the phone's memory, and I can't remove anything else. I don't get why it's having a problem. I have deleted so much!
a factory reset sounds like it would lose all the stuff that's on it, like phone numbers
@MattE.Эллен What I recently discovered is that on Android, system app updates take 2x the space of regular app updates, because the old copy is never removed.
So if you have an older android, that has a tiny system partition, it can fill up with just updates alone
Recently on a work phone I wanted to install Chrome, but couldn't, because the system partition was full and nothing could be moved to the SD card
Instead I uninstalled all the system app updates and that made room available for Chrome
for app development it likely won't matter one bit
As long as you don't grant root access to a certain (through your root manager, such as SuperSU), that app will behave exactly the same as if the phone weren't rooted.
Root access only affects those apps that have it, and you won't be giving it to that app.
I wonder about folks who add HTH to posts. Do they think all the other posts are done with the intent of not helping? Are all their posts not marked HTH deliberately not helpful?
Hello everyone, this is my first time on chat! And being the great person I am, I have to use it for rep-whoring. This question english.stackexchange.com/questions/3607/…
Whoops, still getting used to chat markup. The question is from 2010 and has 761 views, but there is still a plausible pronunciation for the word not listed. I added it today in an answer. I'm hoping to get some discussion, or at least up votes on it, because I think I'm right and the accepted/most upvoted answer is wrong.

@snailboat No. My wife's uncle was, though. I guess it's easier if you grow up japanese.
@SelflessPsychopath Wut?

@Robusto Oh, yes. Korean and Japanese are very similar languages, so it's much easier for speakers of one to learn the other than, say, speakers of English or Japanese to learn Japanese or English. Even today, there are still linguists trying to demonstrate a genetic relationship, although they don't seem to be enjoying much success
@snailboat I was in L.A. on business once and I turned on the TV in the hotel. It was on a channel that I thought for a while was Japanese (this was early in my study of the language) and I was confounded that I couldn't understand a single word. Then a title flashed on and I saw it was Korean. Weird, because they have a very similar vocal cadence.
