2:00 PM
@Cerberus Yes? So? Still a tiny percentage of users? Also presumably not every single user is affected?

checks flags

this is a translation into English. I know ENglish formal letters don't start with "kind respects", but this is how the original letter comes, and I don't think I should remove it in translation:
"Dear ABC Co. CEO,

With kind respects, following the discussions on August 3, 2014 regarding the request on revising the reports of the experts of this administration after visiting DEF Medical company of THE COUNTRY, please find the listed issues as follows:..."

@tchrist I was referring to the 3 star message you see on the wall now if you were referring to the flag I was referring to.

doesn't sound fine to me at all, but I'm not sure what to change! :-/

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Yes, but that brings to my second point, which is that running the latest version of an OS also has some downsides. But you probably agree already.

2:01 PM
@Neeku Super too many lead-ins.

@Neeku I agree it is terrible. Throw away half of it. Then throw away half of what's left.
It is so convoluted it doesn't even make sense in places.

your sentence starts really far

Start with Please find if you must.
The rest is trash.

Go to the essential

@RegDwigнt maybe something a bit more helpful?

2:02 PM
@nosmoking You Occidental, you!

"The listed issues as follows" is particularly bad.

@Cerberus I'd be running 8.1 if it brought anything to the table that I needed.

Either you go on to list the issues, then they are not listed yet, or they are already listed in which case there is no need to list them again.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Now you're sounding like me explaining why I'm still on XP!

@RegDwigнt the list comes below that paragraph, and I didn't paste it just to avoid extra lines. My question is with this paragraph only.

2:04 PM
@Cerberus Windows 7 brings lots to the table that XP doesn't have.

@Neeku then that bit makes zero sense. Throw it away.
@Neeku did the CEO participate in said discussion on Aug 3rd?

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I think we have already talked about this.

@Cerberus including better security for users who run as root.

It will bring enough to the table for me if I build a new PC.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Meh.

> Here are the issues we discussed on Aug 3rd:
He's a CEO. Don't waste his time. He will hate you.

2:05 PM
@RegDwigнt So much better.

If you want people to not hate you, don't add pleases all over the place; remove them.

Yeah.

And don't talk around in a circle.

Include just the information required: no less, no more.

Are you sure you're not American, @Reg?

2:06 PM
Americans are all about "have a nice day" and "I love you". We are more sober here.

@KitFox I do not know my size in inches. So no.

@RegDwigнt P L E A S E

@tchrist I wrote a whole song titled Please. It was quite successful.
Even though it was rubbish.

@RegDwigнt I wasn't there! This is only a letter, and I cannot tell the author it's trash, because that's not my business. Here's the list, if that helps:

1. Changing the resource of raw materials from ABC, the U.S. to DEF, Taiwan without prior notification and inconsistent with the information contained in the Product Technical File.
2. Non-compliance of the quality management system (Papers relating to production control and tracking were not available in some of the observed cases).
3. Non-controlled storage of semi-manufactured or manufactured product is a section of production hall.

"You should never ask anyone for anything. Never, and especially from those who are more powerful than yourself." ― Mikhail Bulgakov, The Master and Margarita

2:09 PM
(I know those sentences might not look perfect, but I'll correct them)

@Neeku wait, so we are doing the proofreading for someone who is doing proofreading for someone else?
If you're the proofreader and you have no objections, then you're done.

@RegDwigнt Geezis.

I'm translating this, and I want to proofread my own draft, if that's OK @RegDwigнt

OIC
Well, if you're translating it, then I'm afraid we can't really help you because in that case we'd need the original as well.

"Sometimes I just sits and thinks, and sometimes I just sits." @GnomeSlice where did that come from?

2:11 PM
Otherwise we don't know how much of the fluff is already in the original.
But if you're allowed to translate loosely, then just go with what I previously suggested.

I'd gloriously provide you with the original text @RegDwigнt, but I'm not sure if you speak the language.
What languages do you speak?

@Neeku Just tell us the language.

Persian @JasperLoy

Ah, no he does not speak Persian.

We can ping JSB or Kosmo.
Psmears only knows Arabic.

2:13 PM
And the people who speak Persian here are not too good in ENglish.

You probably know that Persian is far away from Arabic @RegDwigнt, don't you?

@Neeku I just said that.

One starts with P and the other A, so very far.

That's what "psmears only knows Arabic" means.

just to point it out, it's an offense to relate Persians with Arabs or their language. (:

2:15 PM
Sorry, but not funny.

Just to point it out, absolutely everyone in this world is aware of it, even more so than the Persians themselves.

anyways, I better stop wasting time and fix this text before I run out of time.

When in doubt, go for concision.

When in doubt, go for circumcision, lol.

I did not doubt.

2:16 PM
@JasperLoy um. if you have doubts, just put that off until your doubts are resolved.

When in doubt, spit it out.

@MattЭллен lol. I was just going to write about doubts and penises, but you beat me to the punchline

:D sorry!

and it's such a good punchline it's made me spit out my coffee. you owe me a new keybrd!

I have a broken one you can have

2:18 PM

new to you!

Phone with barely any bezels.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 If you doubt your penis, you're not a man.

You may not be a man.

You must not be a man.

2:19 PM
@RegDwigнt Well, specifically it was about things to do with a penis, and whether you have doubts about said actions
@Cerberus except the huge one at the bottom
@Cerberus Also I find that there should probably be a tiny bit of side bezel. My n4 has a curved glass screen, which is meant to make it like it has no side bezel, and sometimes it registers a touch on the edge from my hand just holding the phone.

And oh, speaking of penis sizes, I built the Mini yesterday.
It is a marvellous build.

@Cerberus such a wrinkly hand :p

If you are concerned about any portion, big or small, then it would seem that leaving it out, i.e. concision, or shortening to only the meaningful parts, is the recommended course of action.

So chock-full of crazy yet legal building techniques, astonishing. When you're done you really can't help but wonder why people would ever use illegal techniques at all, if you can do this totally legally.
It is every bit as spectacular as the VW bus.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Yes, but only the side bezels increase the distance from your thumb when you're using it with one hand.

2:24 PM
From what I'm reading I guess the Tumbler might top it, but that's about it.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I would rather solve that problem softwarally.
@nosmoking Looks pretty normal to me!
@MattЭллен Haha I'm not going to ask how that translates to penis size...
@RegDwigнt Picture?

@MattЭллен I am trying to read that as a limerick and either I am failing or you are.

@RegDwigнt well, it's not a limerick. but keep going! you might find a way

Oo that one.
So smooth!
Except the tyres.

2:28 PM
@Cerberus What's wrong with the tires?

Underneath the basket in the boot is another compartment, for a spare tyre.

@RegDwigнt Yeah it's great. Some of the techniques had me scratching my head though.
@RegDwigнt I thought it was great how that part was attached.

Yeah.

and how it uses a panel, to get that extra depth to the compartment.

It was only then that I noticed that the fifth wheel is different, though.
Never thought about it from the pictures.

2:29 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 They are not impressive.

@RegDwigнt like most spare tires are

@Cerberus you're not impressive.

I'm not a tyre.
Just tyred.

@Cerberus They are real tires. Did you know that Lego is the world's largest tire manufacturer by volume?

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 what, both the tire and the wheel? It's from a friggin tractor.

2:30 PM
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Haha no way!

@Cerberus haha yes way.

@RegDwigнt No, I mean, on real cars, the spare is usually narrower than the regular tires

LEGO trivia 101.

Impressive.

@Cerberus It's true.

2:31 PM
I can't believe there's one person on this planet who still doesn't know it. I can believe it's Cerberus, though.

Decadent.
@RegDwigнt Animals are not people.
BRB

I have that point covered.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 anyway, I didn't understand why they'd use the new black slopes on the front. Seemed like a waste of parts.
I just replaced them with regular 1x6 inverse slopes.
They don't quite have the same radius, by the way. But it's not noticeable in the model.

@RegDwigнt waste? or maybe they're trying to get those parts into the hands of builders?
Or maybe they weren't making the 1x6 inverse curved slopes in black right now

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 I considered that, but it didn't seem likely. They are in tons of sets by now, especially in black.

I mean, come on. Parts are never a waste in a new model, unless there is a POOP or BURP in there.
@RegDwigнt I don't think I have any but this one.

2:35 PM
I also didn't understand why the B pillar was black. They already had tons of all the parts needed in dark green right there in the set.

@RegDwigнt yeah. I wonder, though, if it wasn't again a question of qty of parts produced in a certain colour.

In fact if dark green was more expensive than black, they could have swapped it for black in at least two other places you don't actually see from anywhere. But no, there they went with dark green alright.
So I actually got two of those 1x1 bricks with stud on side out of those places, and then BLed two more to build the pillars in green.

Did you put the stickers on the car?

Nope.
I have never once applied a single sticker.
I wonder if I could sell them for a fortune.

I put the mini logo on those printed green slopey bricks, and I put the logo on the trunk, and the license plates.

2:38 PM
One day I'll open a BL store that'll be all stickers.

But I left the stickers off the dk green slopes that are the pillars of the windows.
And I think there's a sticker for the hood, I left that off too

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 the license plates are always brick-built on all my cars, with a 1x1 tile in blue and a 1x3 tile in white.

@RegDwigнt ah.

I liked how this model had multiple license plates for you to choose from

2:39 PM
The proportions are not exactly right, but it is instantly recognizable.
Actually there's a printed license plate or two in some sets, but they are really few and far between for some reason.
I have like one, I think.
Not even sure which car it's currently on.

the one with the license plate

They are all with license plates. GOTO 1

I don't think I have any license plates that aren't stickers

Now I'm actually curious and must go look it up.
That is, which set it's from.
Will have to wait another hour to go check which set it's currently on.
Actually, will be going to the LEGO Store first, as the Tumbler is released to VIPs today.

I've mostly made my piece with stickers vs printed parts, except I hate it when a model's instructions calls for an unstickered part, and then later tells you to put stickers on it. Then I have to disassemble it and find the stickered part.
@RegDwigнt ghostbusters? bttf?

2:44 PM
Not that I'm buying one, and not even that I want to look at it, quite the contrary, don't want to spoil any techniques for myself.
I just like to show my face there every time there's a new release.

The staff at the lego stores have started recognizing me. They don't recognize my kids yet though.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 ah no, not OUTATIME, I don't mean that one. And Ecto-1 I haven't built yet, though it's been promoted from my cellar just yesterday so is likely to be built today.

@RegDwigнt I finally got the exo suit but still haven't got the ghostbusters.
I am skipping the bttf.

Yeah I saw your pics. Did I forget to comment? I think I did.

the exo suit is really floppy. floppier than I expected.

2:46 PM
The feet are all strange.
They are giant, but it's all just a 1x4 underneath.

but you just can't tell a parent that their child is ugly

Yeah, well, most of the exo-suit is decorative, I guess.
But still, I am slightly disappointed in how it poses.
I have that set, and the mech is really poseable
playability-wise, it smokes the exo-suit
build-wise, it's kinda boring.
now I wish I had kept it assembled just a bit longer, so it could face off against the exo-suit.

@tchrist dunno if you are interested but this.

Still trying to find the license plate tile on BL. I think Rebrickable will be more helpful. BL has three dozen pages worth of those.
Most are stickered.

hello everyone

2:51 PM
Should be easier to just look under my parts, white tiles on Rebrickable.

@RutvikSutaria hello

@RutvikSutaria Hello.

@KitFox hi

Hm. So I found it, I have exactly one, and it's a 1x2 tile at that.

@Freddy Hi.

2:54 PM
Here's the kicker. It comes in exactly one set, and Rebrickable says that's where I have it from, but I do not remember getting that set, ever.

nice set

Nah, total rubbish, that's the thing. Why would I buy that?
I had to stare at it in disbelief for a full minute before realizing I got it for the sound brick and the uber-rare silver parts.
Now I can even name the store and the approximate discount.
But really, if you woke me up in the middle of the night and asked me at gunpoint if I had that set, I'd have said "NO!" in the fastest and most convincing manner imaginable.

i liked that helicopter, but it should have 3 blades

Um, that's the number of blades it has.

fails to be impressed that @Reg has forgotten one of the thousand LEGO sets he owns

2:59 PM
@RegDwigнt It's an alright set, for kids. I liked the Agents theme and the reboot is pretty good too. Not that I want the sets for myself, but I think it has top marks for playability.

That line, LEGO Agents, had a much better helicopter a year later. I actually built that one rather recently. It was impressive.

sorry i missed 1 blade

@RegDwigнt yeah but this set is really a car, not a helicopter.
