@ChaosGamer Because we don't need to drag people into this
@simchona wait, what do you mean I'm dragging people?
@ChaosGamer You said "why not". My original "why" was to Thursagen. So it wasn't to you
@simchona ...no, I was asking why when you said NOOOOO to me. I was only jinxing.
@ChaosGamer Please reply to the right comment then :p I was NOOOOOing to the Meta Mega Jinx
I really ought to write faster, but I would make more mistakes.... ah well...
21:04
@ChaosGamer You've been doing better on spelling and such
@simchona True.
@ChaosGamer Thank you for putting in the effort ^^
So now what? We wait until mod comes in and save the day?
@simchona your welcome
HEY Reg!
I'm Phychotic!
@ChaosGamer psychotic?
@ChaosGamer We're looking into it, although a better understanding from @RegDwight on the original instances would be keen.
21:06
@simchona word I made up ^^
@GraceNote Congrats on the job by the way! And can you keep us updated?
@simchona I'll do my best, and thanks, not in that order.
And also refer any particularly awesome members who show astounding initiative, good spirit and exceptional charm?
@Mana you never fail to make me laugh... Execptional charm... My hat...
HEY
ain't I charming?
@GraceNote I have no idea what that is supposed to mean, but I'll do whatever you say. Today.
21:09
@RegDwight We're having a thursagan issue
I know.
I've been here all the time.
@Reg you were so quiet. I thought you left.
Most mod and people with high rep are mostly bossy and high and mighty....
Reg is exception I think...
But not RegDwight, right Chaos?? :D;;
okay good.
@ChaosGamer Sorry.
21:10
He can be high, though.
@RegDwight I just mean about background of this situation. There seems to be a lot of background to these events beyond just today.
@simchona nah your good. :)
You have to remember -- this is the chat room for EL&U. I am picky.
He doesn't walk on the ground when he is catching mice, you know.
@ChaosGamer I'll try to keep the high-and-mightiness down

This is not a bagel-loving democracy. It's a malevolent pryanik-obsessed dictatorship.
There you have your exception.
Still, saying that he seems like a high school student was a bit rough, yo.
@simchona I like the way you are.
user19161
@simchona Reg knows everyhthing like me. We read the entire transcript!
@ChaosGamer Thanks, hon
@Mana Earlier he was talking about how I didn't understand being 'different". I think Martha brought up that he might be in high school. I think I went off from that
user19161
@Cerberus And he only does that at night, like you!
21:13
@JasperLoy Absolutely. Daytime is for wimps.
Guys, just tell me straight: am I charming?
or no?
@Cerberus Herehere!
user19161
@ChaosGamer Quite.
@RegDwight — Hehe, I thought it was the dictatorship of the proletariat.
And angels only fall from the sky at night.
21:13
@JasperLoy ty
@Robusto Proletariat and pryanik are almost anagrams, and for a good reason.
@FallenAngelEyes By the way... are you actually in Fall from Heaven?
user19161
@ChaosGamer What is TY?
@ChaosGamer I haven't spoken with you enough to figure whether or not you are charming.
@JasperLoy thank you
21:14
@Cerberus In?
user19161
@GraceNote spoken?
London bridge is falling down, falling down, London brideg is falling down, falling down....
@Robusto You were being called for, earlier
@JasperLoy Naha! Nice try!
@RegDwight — Yeah, but Proletariat never won the Triple Crown. Secretariat did, though.

@simchona — Wofür?
@FallenAngelEyes The Civ mod? I mean, I don't know what it was exactly that fell from heaven.
@Robusto Err...Thursagan?
@Cerberus ...*facepalm*
What, it called me?
21:15
Heh.
@Robusto Thursagan wanted to haunt you
Alright, Mods and Admins, Ladies and germs. I hereby present to you.... the multiple party-one account usage...
@Robusto Wanted to 'haunt you'
@GraceNote Jinx.
Dilemma.
21:16
My chat didn't scroll
What is up with that error image anyway? Everybody keeps linking to it—but why?
scary music
@simchona Wargh
user19161
@ChaosGamer germs?
@Cerberus Fairly sure it isn't intentional.
21:16
Why would that ghost want to haunt poor little me?
@Robusto dunno. "Both" people on the account wanted you
@ArdaXi I'm not so sure...
@Robusto ..don't you scare daylight out of ghosts???
The initiated never seem to wonder about the error message.
@simchona I'd say this too but I've already been jinxed twice today, rather not accumulate enough for a hex.
21:17
Well, I received no pings to that effect.
@GraceNote what about curse?
@ChaosGamer — Only in Soviet Russia.
@Robusto They kept spelling it wrong. "Where's Rubust"
This is the image.
user19161
@Robusto Here's one for you. I hope you get the swag soon so that you have sth to wear.
21:18
@ChaosGamer That'll take some time.
user19161
@ArdaXi Another fake animal from reg.
@Robusto ahh yes.... Russians are known to be quite superstitious...
about ghosts.
user19161
@ChaosGamer superstitious
@JasperLoy ty
@ChaosGamer I find your ideas intriguing. Do go on with your newsletter.
21:20
I'm not afraid of ghosts, or dial tones, or even 404s.
@RegDwight what do you mean?
user19161
@Robusto only mayonnaise.
@ChaosGamer Tell me more about Russian superstitions.
@Robusto way to go! but ghosts do exist in Christianity sense.
Yes. I effing hate mayonnaise. I am using the word hate.
user19161
21:22
@ChaosGamer enlighten me, i've forgotten about ghosts there.
You guys do know that I said that because Robusto said "Solviet Union", right?
user19161
@aedia @martha Hi! You came in together!
But they are superstitious.
user19161
@ChaosGamer soviet
@JasperLoy I always mix those two up... sloviet, soviet.... dang it...
21:24
@ChaosGamer — That's right ... blame the victim of Soviet oppression.
user19161
@spare Hi!
@Robusto you are a jew?
@Robusto So that's what's behind it.
Hi! Thanks for the welcome. :)
Hi @Spare
21:24
Hi.
ZOMG everybody is coming here to talk about the... dilemma....
@JasperLoy Qué casualidad! Hola, todos.
@ChaosGamer Soviet oppression != Jew, necessarily
@ChaosGamer — I consider that an impertinent question.
Dammit EL&U, you all made me want ice cream and we have none. :[
21:25
@Robusto sorry.
I was just curious.
user19161
@FallenAngelEyes Grace had some a few days ago.
@ChaosGamer In my experience at least, "Jew" sounds more pejorative to many people than saying "Jewish," though I don't know if that is the case here.
I use "Jew".
@Cerberus You also use "Jap"
@FallenAngelEyes... huh... never thought of it like that..
user19161
21:27
@ChaosGamer Relax, he's just messing with ya.
I don't ask people for their religion, sexual persuasion, or credit card numbers in chat.
@Robusto I don't people?...
what does it mean?
@simchona Not seriously, because it feels a bit pejorative, and with good reason.
@FallenAngelEyes This just reminds me of a very awkward exchange at the wedding I was at.
I believe he means "don't ask"
21:28
Oh
@GraceNote Oh?
@GraceNote That sounds fun, tell us!
@GraceNote do tell us about it.
Jul 20 at 15:20, by z7sg
Chat is particularly incomprehensible today. This is good.
21:28
sits comfortably
pours tea
Forgive me, I had my eyes examined today and they dilated my pupils. Everything's a bit blurry. Especially you all.
@FallenAngelEyes Oh, something about pejoratives, and people not liking a particular term, so naturally they said something using the verb pejorative of "Jew" as a response.
takes a sip of lemonade
user19161

@Robusto Oh man I hate that. I have very large pupils too, enough so that when they're medically dilated, they can barely see my irises.

So I end up looking like a Lemur.
@GraceNote Thaaaat's... yeah. Awkward.
@Robusto Was everything all right?
@GraceNote ...so?
user19161
21:29
@Cerberus Delicious!
@Cerberus — New prescription is all.
serves homemade pie
@FallenAngelEyes Hence my choice of adjective.
@GraceNote I don't quite understand this: ...using the verb pejorative of "Jew"...?
@Robusto Oh, good.
@Cerberus You can use it as a pejorative verb to indicate that someone is being stingy and basically cheating you out of a service or deal.
21:30
I seriously need to get new glasses, but can't seem to find the time to schedule an eye exam.
user19161
@ChaosGamer So long as it is not kimchi!
kimchi falls and lands on our heads
Also: dammit, y'all are making me hungry.
@GraceNote Oh, using Jew as a verb, I see.
@JasperLoy you jinxed it!
user19161
21:31
@Martha Here I can just go to a neighbour shop and get it done in 5 min and collect glasses in two days.
user19161
I mean neighbourhood.
I think people who are too politically correct should be taken to a Borat film.
@ChaosGamer I know nothing about this ... dilemma. Should I ignore it?
He is a bit gross; but the way he messes with Jews is great, he being one himself, of course.
@SpareOom you can read our previous chat.
21:33
How far back do I need to go?
user19161
@ChaosGamer It's weird how I mentioned Thurs and he appeared. I mentioned kimchi and it appeared.
Not too far
@Cerberus is he a hypocrite?
@Cerberus My boyfriend and I clash a bit sometimes over being PC, with me being raised in America and having learned to be PC and him being, well, typically Dutch ;)
user19161
@FallenAngelEyes What is PC?
21:34
@JasperLoy Politically Correct
@ChaosGamer Not at all! He (indirectly) shows how stupid political correctness is and and hypocritical some people are.
@Cerberus — You slimy Dutchmen would say something like that.
@FallenAngelEyes I thought it was personal computer :p
user19161
@FallenAngelEyes Damn, we need an abbreviations dictionary in this room.
@FallenAngelEyes Hehe. No offence, but I hope you will adopt Our Ways!
21:34
@ChaosGamer Hahaha not in this case
@FallenAngelEyes Also pubococcygeus muscle.
@Robusto Absolutely.
Mayonnaise breath.
@aedia pubococcygeus?
America's political correctness is a source of fun and comedy here.

Q: spilt vs spilled

ThursaganI can not understand and comprehend again the british and american forms of the past tense of spill. I have difficulty due to the number of dictionaries in our house that contradict all the time. So can anyone point out the correct one? Thanks.

@Cerberus It was very shocking to me when he brought a chocoladeletter from Albert Heijn that had a Zwarte Piet on it the first time...
He's BACKKKKKKKKKKKK
user19161
@simchona only on the main site.
@ChaosGamer The ones Kegel exercises are for.
@simchona — I presume you mean 3I?
21:36
@FallenAngelEyes Yes, everybody loves Zwarte Piet. The PC lobby here is against it, but the great majority is non-PC, thank God.
@Robusto This is...his "brother"..."niece"...
@aedia I didn't realize PC was used as an abbreviation for that
@Robusto No, this is 3Ib
@FallenAngelEyes Does your boyfriend say "neger"?
I bet he does.
user19161
@Robusto Some relative of 3I, details uncertain.
21:36
Everybody in our circles does.
@Mana — Let me know when we get to 3M. I need some more PostIt notes.
@Cerberus I went to a fairly liberal university that had just had a whole "scandal" when someone decided to paint their face as a "Pacific Islander" for Halloween, so I was like "AAAGH I can't have this sitting on my desk!" and hid it in a drawer :P
@Cerberus He does, and I will admit that I am not yet comfortable with using that term
@FallenAngelEyes Haha that is incredibly funny.
@FallenAngelEyes You will learn to use it, in time. But that one I wouldn't use on television. But it is fine among most people with higher education.
What is this all 3I, 3IB, 3M things -_-.
@Cerberus It just feels too close to the English pejorative term and having also been the target of racial slurs, I don't really like using them.
21:38
Or among those with very little education, they have common sense as well; it is just the people in the middle who can be annoyingly PC.
user19161
@ChaosGamer Another new smiley!
@Cerberus My b/f can comfortably listen and laugh at Hans Teeuwen whereas I usually sit there with an expression on my face somewhat comparable to this: O_O
@FallenAngelEyes I can understand that it must be different for a foreigner.
user19161
@FallenAngelEyes O_O
@FallenAngelEyes — Oh, that's your face?
21:39
@FallenAngelEyes Well, he is a bit on the extreme side, yes. Public (though fake, invisible) masturbation and all.
@Cerberus ...onto the queen.
wh
Who stared my meesage? I want to thank him/her.
Right, I don't remember that, but I am not surprised.
what.
user19161
21:40
@ChaosGamer they starred it to see your typo.
@Cerberus Oh my. I had never heard of Zwarte Piet. The Wikipedia page helpfully mentions that Americans experience culture shock upon seeing the character...
@aedia Yes, Zwarte Piet is a great national symbol.
@JasperLoy dude, It was a word I made up. it did it PURPOSLY
That reminds me of the time I really didn't know that "porch monkey" meant something other than sitting around relaxing on the porch.
@aedia Yeah. It's still really, really weird for me to walk around in town around that time of year and see mothers doing their children up in blackface
user19161

Q: "Spilt" vs "Spilled"

ThursaganI can not understand and comprehend again the British and American forms of the past tense of spill. I have difficulty due to the number of dictionaries in our house that contradict all the time. So can anyone point out the correct one? Thanks.

Gotta be a dupe.
@aedia Does that refer to black servants/slaves?
@Robusto Did you see the "spoilt" "spoiled" question....by the same person?
@FallenAngelEyes hold on, mothers doing their children? That sounds wrong, very wrong.
And yet I don't think many black people are offended.
user19161
21:42
@simchona I closed it as gen ref.

Q: "Spoilt" vs. "spoiled"

ThursaganI am currently confused which one is the correct past tense of the verb spoil. I looked up the dictionary and it said spoilt was past tense and spoiled was past perfect. I asked my brother and he said they were the same. I asked my sister and she said spoilt was past perfect and spoiled was pa...

@ChaosGamer :P Painting their children's faces
One more vote til this is closed
We've seen it before, though.
Nor are women offended when the King of Thebes has female servants in a play.
user19161
21:42
@simchona till or until
@Cerberus Specifically with a connotation of "lazy." So, offensive.
Ok, on a quick look, it looks redundant
....
@JasperLoy *till
Spoilt vs. Spoiled, Spilt vs. Spilled...
user19161
@ChaosGamer redundant
21:43
@aedia Sure, well, actually the connotation "lazy" isn't very strong. Zwarte Piet isn't lazy to me.
@Cerberus My boyfriend always asks me jokingly if I want to dress up as Zwarte Piet and I'm all "NO!" :P
seriously, who comes up withthese things?
@FallenAngelEyes Yes you should do that!
That would be awesome!
@RegDwight: Oh FFS, now he's answering his own sock puppet questions.
@Cerberus And then go to America and be promptly shot...
21:44
Zwarte Piet smoking pot!
@Cerberus ahahaha
Send a picture to your parents.
Zwarte Piet... by chaos....
@Cerberus I just told my b/f what you said and he laughed really hard. XD
You got to be kidding me.
21:45
Cute or what?
user19161
@Cerberus Who's that?
@Cerberus Not Zwarte Piet! "Porch monkey" is offensive here because it is like saying the slaves are both inhuman and lazy (for resting). Like "lazy Mexican" stereotypes, kind of.
@FallenAngelEyes Good!
@JasperLoy Random children dressed as Zwarte Piet and Sinterklaas
user19161
21:46
@FallenAngelEyes whom I don't know about.
@aedia Right... well, we say Belgians are stupid. Would that be offensive in America too?
@Cerberus — I can't tell ... are you the one on the left or the one on the right?
Duck Dodgers, and the twentyfourth and a half century!
@Cerberus Oh, God, probably, at the wrong moment.
user19161
@Robusto probably right.
21:47
@JasperLoy It might be more exciting if we just assume whatever acronym we want and see if it causes trouble.
user19161
@Cerberus Anything can be considered offensive or not.
@Robusto Both.
@Cerberus What is it, Belgians are stupid, Germans are either assholes (if it's about football) or "te netjes en precies"...
@ChaosGamer It's a secret.
All Hail to the King, Baby! (can anyone guess where that came from?)
21:48
@aedia It is just a joke here. Of course nobody things Belgians are stupid. They say we are all niggards.
Douglas Adams did say Belgium was the worst taboo...
user19161
@SpareOom I invented ctfd new definition. I didn't know it was calm the f down. I made it to be check the f dictionary.
@Robusto What's more, now look who voted to close it.
That is a pic of @Cerberus.
21:49
@FallenAngelEyes Exactly! And everyone living <500 km from the Mediterranean is sloppy and crazy.
user19161
@Robusto OMG!
@aedia isn't Michael Jackson a worst taboo?
@RegDwight Do you have to have over 10k to see?
@RegDwight — <scratches head>
Lookin' good, huh?
21:50
...no. who the heck is that?
@simchona No. Go and have a look.
user19161
@Cerberus Yes, as usual!
@JasperLoy You too!
@Robusto Can't be. Not enough heads.
@Martha — That's when he was younger. The other two heads hadn't grown in yet.
user19161
21:51
@Cerberus Well, you wouldn't know since you haven't seen that much of me!
Martha. You were watch for a quite a time. I thought you were afk.
@JSBangs, @Kit, @Cerberus. Since you guys pinged me about "Zut alors" here are my "belated comments".
- Cerb is right, "Zut" is a polite way of saying "shit".
- Kit is right as well of course and she also has the "alors" right. The idea is that the speaker emphasises how much he/she believes the situation is unfair to him/her ("If this is how it goes, then Zut")... The etymologie of "Zut" is lost.
In an IT error condition context, the probable purpose is to provoke a smile because the expression is really outdated: only well educated people above 60 would say that today.
oh, @Cerberus, I asked my father-in-law about U-speak in Dutch today and he said he's going to look up a book for me about it. "Van Grootmama mag dat wel" or something like that
@JasperLoy Sure I saw some pictures on your profile here.
Hi @Kit!
21:52
@ChaosGamer I'm in and out. Stoopid w*rk.
We all hate work, I see.
user19161
@Cerberus only one was the real me :) the rest were JB
@JasperLoy Justin Beiber?
@Martha — You need more asterisks to clean that word up for chat.
That r looked very much like an n from the small font in the sidebar!
21:53
@AlainPannetier Ah, thanks for this thorough summary! We were taught to say zut at school...
@ChaosGamer It's not called w-o-r-k if it's fun. Then it's called fun.
@Cerberus We were too
user19161
@ChaosGamer bieber, yes.
@Robusto Sorry. Felt like cussing. Apologies if I offended anyone.
user19161
@Martha Cuss all you want.
21:54
@FallenAngelEyes Hah, that sounds fun! Never heard of that book. Lemme see... and have you checked schoonpapa's U speak? hehe
user19161
@aedia a workout is fun though, in the gym or in the bedroom
@FallenAngelEyes When I Google that title, Google replaces the U word "grootmama" with the non-U "oma". Interesting. Can't find that book.
@Martha My God! I am offended! You might as well have said the w-word in full!
@Cerberus Hrm, maybe I have the title wrong. I can't quite remember it.
user19161
@Cerberus wank?
@FallenAngelEyes Do let me know if you find the right title, I am intrigued.
21:56
Will do!
What is w-word?

Kit
@AlainPannetier I'm right of course? Well, I am feeling pleased as Punch right now.
Well, it's beer o'clock. CYA all later.
On the closed spilt/spilled:
Thursagan, you probably shouldn't mess around with your father's account. get off, and stop duplicating his questions. – Thursagen 2 mins ago
@ChaosGamer I couldn't repeat it. Look up Martha's curse, she replaced one letter of the w-word with an asterisk.
21:58
doesn't that mean either a. they're sharing the account again, which is against TOS
@Kit, You said your French was dusty, but I'd say "tu as de beaux restes ;-)"

user19161

@AlainPannetier Haha oh yes.
@JasperLoy In that case, there's a minor sharing an account. Doubly against rules @regdw
