@skullpatrol LOL.
@skullpatrol The irony is that maybe he got banned for saying things like "lick my nuts" instead of his more hurtful conversation with me. That is how the world judges. It is a sick world.
@skullpatrol If he wants to come to chat, he can always delete his account and create a new one like me, lol.
Hi @MattЭллен you are early today.

I'm normally here at this time

Oh, that means I am early today, lol.

I am very lucky to have answered a couple of questions that gave me 20 votes each.
I was about to switch to Chrome when I realised that my plugins only work on Firefox.
This edition of Mint finally allows me to add Google to the list of search engines.

7:22 AM
that's nice

Mint defaults to Yahoo because it increases Mint's revenue.
Bing search is censored in my country.
Yahoo image search has also been overtaken by Bing.
Now I only use Google for everything.

@JasperLoy interesting. I wonder why that is

@MattЭллен Because it is the country with no chewing gum, lol. If they block chewing gum, they want to block other things too.

or do you mean you can still use it, but some results are prohibited from appearing?

@MattЭллен Yes.

7:25 AM
oh
governments are weird like that

Only mine, not yours, lol.
I now have over 1000 SE rep, woo!

my government likes to censor things too. not as much as yours, though!

I would like my country to have adult material, but that would not happen for the next thousand years...
It will take another million years or so in the Muslim countries...

govenments just don't trust their people. the funny thing is, the less they trust them, the less trustworthy the people become

I no longer love my country, I just want to leave as soon as I can.
However, many people from the neighbouring countries like to come here to work.
This place is good for one thing --- making money.

7:35 AM
aye

I am almost a beggar now, but I only need money for food etc. I am not interested in making money, so this place has nothing good for me.
@MattЭллен Sometimes, it is not just the government, it is the society itself which is problematic.

@JasperLoy yes. it's very much an holistic problem

Now, I only want to solve my mental problems. I will do my best, but I am afraid my best is not enough...
I will use italics for emphasis now, like Reg, lol.

@JasperLoy you'll never know until you've tried

1 hour later…
9:17 AM
I could have done that more diplomatically
ho hum
I figuratively made the OP dig his own grave
"are you asking about [this off topic subject]?"
"Yes"
[closed]

hello everyone

hello
@RutvikSutaria have i met you any where?

@Freddy Yes i think in party, about 2 months ago

maybe
nice
So George is out for month, yesterday he was too rude!
I was going to flag his post but he removed it

9:36 AM
@Freddy What did he say?

@joe Hi joe. if you'd like me to explain the difference feel free to come to chat.

I wonder which Joes that will ping.

@JasperLoy He teeling to "lick his ball if anyone does't like his answer." It was due to this answer

@JasperLoy just the particular one I want to. it's a mod ping

@Freddy I upvoted his answer, lol.
To be honest, if it was only lick his balls, it doesn't deserve 30 days ban.

9:46 AM
@JasperLoy i was not accepting that because after removing the post he also apologise
16 hours ago, by George Pompidou
and I am hoping that my realization that I shouldn't speak that way and apology is worth something.
Bye need to go, i have got trigonometry test in hour. :(

@MattЭллен Now that I have put my email in my profile, I wonder who will email me, lol. I am too bored, lol.

there are a bajillion SE sites! you could take up a new interest
learn about something you've not tried before

No, I will certainly delete them if I do so, lol.

you don't have to make accounts

Maybe I am subconsciously hoping for Maria to email me...

9:52 AM
If wishes were fishes we'd have very smelly streets

If they were dishes, the streets would be smelly too.
@MattЭллен Have you found a Maria?

no
And I won't find one by wishing about it

How many Marias did you have in the past?

Marias? As in people I put on a pedalstal, despite them rejecting me? a few. I was young and foolish.

I mean serious relationships.

9:58 AM
oh

I guess 3.

a few
yeah, probably about that

@MattЭллен You are still young and foolish.

but less of both than I have been :D

Yes, next Sat I will be your age, lol.

10:00 AM
33? congrats. It's a good age

It is 3 times 11.

I'm less concerned with meeting the right person as I am with believing that I'm an OK person. I figure that once I am someone I like spending time with, I'll be someone other people like spending time with and things will flow from there.

But why would you not be OK? You must have some weird traits then.

I'm starting to be able to concentrate on projects again, so that's a step in the right direction
@JasperLoy it's partly just my mis-selfperception and partly not being good at socialising

I suggest you join okcupid.com, lol. I think it is pretty good.

10:08 AM
I practice getting better at both

@MattЭллен You misspelled practise.

@JasperLoy I've thought about joining a dating site, but I'm not sure I would get anything out of it yet
@JasperLoy meh. silly words. it's all the same when I speak 'em

@JasperLoy He’s turning Canadian.

The American spelling of practice and license is very confusing.
Each is both the noun and the verb.

10:09 AM
spelling is confusing :D

@JasperLoy Less to remember that way.

In these cases, the British spelling is logical.

That’s good advise.
But honestly, if you can only hold one spelling in your head at a time for any given word, you head is too small.
It’s like everything else in language: a multiplicity of viable possibilities flourish in riotous disorder. Let every flower bloom in the garden of language. Humanity doesn’t do highlander tongues very well, because at our linguistics roots, there’s more than one way to do it.™ If this is not to your liking, take it up with the Royal Academy of the English Language; I’m sure they’ll fix it all for you.

OMG, did you just write that?

No, my kitten Lorin did.

10:16 AM
clever kitten

Haha, Lorin sounds like the name of my main Maria, lol.

Lorin is a boy’s name, Jasper. How long have you been plagued with these gender issues?

Oh, Lorin is male?

Must I repeat myself for your comfort? I was purrfectly clear the first time.
Of course Lorin is a boy-kitty.

Q: Can I deliberately block/cancel/ban my account for a month?

Joe BlowAs a curiosity, can I block or disable my own account, for say a month? You can imagine ... (a) one is busy writing a novel or something, and you want to 'prevent the distraction to yourself' (just as an alcoholic may, um, lock up the bottles) (b) perhaps, an employer might insist a young empl...

He should just delete his account, lol.

10:18 AM
Just get into a fight with a moderator. That should work. Or make some socks.
That’s Lorin.

just redirect *.stackexchange.com to 127.0.0.1
no ban required

He’s a little guy, only about 8 pounds. But his tail is wider than his head.
I don’t know that he will get much bigger. He just turned one.

he looks cute

He is cute. Very very pretty.

As cute as Cerberus.

10:23 AM

that tail's very fluffy!

His foster-brother Randy is “bigger” by like 25%, but Lorin is very feisty and refuses to concede dominance.

That’s Randy. These are just a day or three ago.

So many chat users have pets.

10:26 AM

@tchrist I like his stripes

But this guy weighs more than both my kitties put together. He was my grandparents’ kitty. Mom found him as a kitten and thought he was full grown, so gave him to them. He continued to grow and grow and grow. He’s a Maine coon, over 20 pounds.
@MattЭллен Noble, in a way, although Lorin is the one who thinks he’s royalty.

Q: "For all it's worth" or "for all its worth"?

DanielShould I put an apostrophe in "for all its worth"? The meaning comes to about the same thing either way, as far as I can make out, and it seems like "it's" is more popular. But is there an accepted version? Or any reason for preferring one over the other, other than staying conventional?

Wow, this has gone viral!

The giant kitty is named Misty because Mom missexed him at first. I was just home, you see. He lives at Mom’s house now.
He is too big to fit on your lap.
And is difficult to carry around.
Lorin is very easy to do both with.

:D I was going to say he looks cosy. A bit blanket like, perhaps?

10:30 AM
His coat is so thick, it is crazy. He makes Lorin seem like a short-hair.
Well, except for Lorin’s super-tail.
That’s a firefly that had landed on his nose.

Looks very fat.

Very cheeky of the lightning bug.
@JasperLoy He can outrun a horse.
Not really very fat; you have to understand the breed.
It is the elephant of the domestic cats.
And there is just so much hair there.
To be carried around, he would really need a baby-carrier that mounts on your back.
That’s Oxalis stricta for size comparison. Yellow woodsorrel, sometimes erroneously called yellow clover.
And violet leaves, but those are big violet leaves.
It is sometimes found in Britain.
It is tasty.
Oxalis stricta, called the common yellow woodsorrel (or simply yellow woodsorrel), common yellow oxalis, upright yellow-sorrel, lemon clover, or more ambiguously and informally "sourgrass" or "pickle plant", is an herbaceous plant native to North America, parts of Eurasia, and has a rare introduction in Britain. It tends to grow in woodlands, meadows, and in disturbed areas as both a perennial and annual. Erect when young, this plant later becomes decumbent as it lies down, and branches regularly. It is not to be confused with similar plants which are also often referred to as "yellow woodsorrel...
Just like a person, really.

Once I bought a loaf of bread and there was a dead cockroach perfectly fossilized between two slices, lol.

> Erect when young, this gentleman later becomes decumbent as it lies down, and branches regularly.
@JasperLoy I do not think that word means what you think it means.

@tchrist You are probably right.

10:39 AM
In contrast, those words are accurate.
Woodsorrel is a cheerful plant.
It is cheering to the eye, the mind, and tongue.
And it’s shamrocky.
Its is the bright green of early spring, forever throughout the year.
I need to use its as a pronoun more. It makes people think I made a mistake, so I get to correct them. :)
I wish I could have slept till 4am today.
But alas, I could not.
Just not made that way.
It is not a choice, just a making. I have a gloamful orientation I suppose.

You can try taking some meds to help sleep.

Hm.
I did.

Clonezapam seems a good option.

I heard from a non-medical source that magnesium tablets can help one to sleep

I took both diphenhydramine, and clonezapam, and oxycodone.
For tripartite senses of both.
And still I rise early.

10:45 AM
apparently magnesium relaxes muscles

@tchrist Maybe that happens to all people who have had long terms of depression. Somehow it changes the brain permanently.
My sleep is now irregular too.

Actually, only the diphenhydramine was dubiously used as a hypnotic. The other two were used for other reasons. I’m in constant pain now with a messed up knee, and the clonezapam is because it is a difficult week for me; I just spread my father’s ashes and his birthday is tomorrow; he died of Parkinson’s — just as, in a sense, did Robin Williams, whose shrine I visited this week. It is hard to be cheerful.

When awake, I feel tired. When trying to sleep, I feel awake.

I always awaken 2–3 hours before the sun. It is an issue. It is just how I am.
It is how I have always been, at least since puberty.
I don’t think it is related to some sort of affective mood disorder.
After two-score years of being this way, one simply learns to live with it. It is not within my powers to change.
All I can change is when I go to sleep, not when I wake up.

Perhaps you can go back to sleep after waking up.

10:50 AM
So I try to go to bed early, lest I become cranky or ill or despondent.
Well, let me go try that. I’m not sure whether the kittens will approve though. And yet it was I who woke them this morning, not they me.
The older you get, the less you sleep.
Until at last you sleep forever.

There is plenty of time to rest in the grave.

Perhaps that is why I arise early, but I don’t think so.
I think rather that Hyperion needs his stables prepared so that he can affix his horses to the chariot of the sun, and I am his stableboy.

I am going to watch TV now.

Like me, the woodsorrel’s leaves exhibit nyctinasty: they curl up at night and unfold glowingly by day.
Sounds nasty, I know.
Nyx is the mother of us all.

10:59 AM
born of the gods!

As were we all.
> All parts of the plant are edible,[4] with a distinct tangy flavor (as is common in all plants in the genus Oxalis).

The leaves and flowers of the plant are sometimes added to salads for decoration and flavoring. These can also be chewed raw (along with other parts of the plant, but not the root) as a thirst-quencher.[4] The green pods are pleasant raw, having a juicy crisp texture and a tartness similar to rhubarb in flavor.

The leaves can be used to make a flavored drink that is similar in taste to lemonade],[4] and the whole plant can be brewed as herbal tea that has an aroma somewha
I learned this at age 4 or age 6, and have never forgotten its pleasure.

good to know

11:31 AM
Why does packaging that gives you a dotted line and says "tear here to open" almost invariably put the line in the place least likely to get it open cleanly?

3 hours later…
2:18 PM
@tchrist You'd like that, wouldn't you?

2:33 PM
@Robusto it doesn't say "tear here to open in the most clean way", so for all we know they might specifically mean "tear here to open in the most hilarious way".

@Cerberus Stability is always desirable.

@RegDwigнt Wouldn't be surprised.

astonishes

admonishes

demonishes

2:36 PM
beeps

For Jesus?

@Cerberus You’re just annoyed that I beat you up this morning.

No. Cheeses. You misheard me.

@tchrist Did you? How?
@Robusto It is true.

@Robusto Red Leicester? Tilsit? Caerphilly? Bel Paese?

2:37 PM
@RegDwigнt Gruyere, of course.

4 hours ago, by tchrist
I wish I could have slept till 4am today.

And it is very interesting how some cheap brands have packaging that is easy to open, while some expensive brands claim it is "too hard" to do (true story).
@tchrist So you awoke before me?
How is that news??

@Robusto *Gruyère

Gruyère comes right after Red Leicester, Tilsit, Caerphilly, Bel Paese, Red Windsor and Stilton, and they do not have it.

@Cerberus Eram quod es, eris quod sum.

2:40 PM
Ignosce mihi dubitanti.

@RegDwigнt And where does La Vache Qui Rit fall when you tipper?

@tchrist I'm too lazy to type those characters on a Windows keyboard. When I'm on the Mac, it's trivial.

@Robusto It’s trivial, Mac.

@tchrist doesn't matter. If la vache qui rit falls and nobody's around, then it didn't happen.

Mac and cheese go together. Further proof of that.

2:43 PM
Can I not have a onevial or a twovial? Why do vials always have to come in threes?

Also fours. Quadrivial.
As in quadrivial equations.
Cf. trivium, quadrivium

That is a triveting explanation!

I only use trivets to cool baked good. Mmmmm, pie.

@RegDwigнt No, she falls into la vache qui pleure, bien sûr Sir.

I thought vets were doctors from Viet.

2:45 PM
There are plenty of vets who served in Vietnam.

@RegDwigнt Better question is why vivials always come in cons.

@Robusto Yes, at least three, as we've established.
@tchrist they are stormy petrels?

my daddy was a prominent frogman / my ma was in the naval reserve

I sure hope he got a big promotion. Or at least a raise in pay.

@RegDwigнt Sturmschwalben are into three-ways?

2:48 PM
@Robusto You know what I'm going to say...

@tchrist you don't want to know!

@Cerberus He’s going to sing! He’s going to sing!

@Cerberus AHK!

@Cerberus you are going to say continental drift!

@Robusto *Great Auk

2:49 PM
Is there a Just Okay Auk? I don't need a Great Auk.
I'd rather save my money for something I really need.

I think it's in Aukland.

Then try gawk; it’s not great.

@Robusto You win!!
@RegDwigнt Close.
@tchrist I wouldn't do that to you.

@Cerberus I would definitely use AHK if I could invent a time machine and travel back to 2002.

@Cerberus that is no fair. You specifically waited for me to say something just so you could say something else on purpose.

2:50 PM
@Robusto Why not now?

@Cerberus Because Windows 7.

@RegDwigнt Yes.

@Cerberus because he does not have a time machine.
Pay attention!

@Robusto It works in Windows 7! Unless you have written scripts tied to certain specific things in XP or whatever.

Hmm.

2:51 PM
@Cerberus Not even a nightingale can serenade by light of day, la sera esperando.

Yeah I must interrupt myself for a second to say that Cerb is actually right for once.

@tchrist But can he aubade?

I am playing the 9007 game on Windows 7 using AHK.

D'oh.

Then why can't Cerb update to Win 7?

2:52 PM
Alraxite's soul has also been sold to Autohotkey.
@Robusto Oh, I could.

@Robusto because he likes all the dock icons.

@Cerberus On a lark, perhaps. Or a slip.

That, too.

And 7 hides them away.

@Cerberus I was wondering why he didn't have one. Glad we sorted that out.

2:52 PM
It has been replaced with a hotstring.
Whenever you type "soul" anywhere in Windows, it automatically shuts down his computer.
(You can actually do this with a few lines of code.)

@RegDwigнt Like ⚕ and 😷 both?

Well, I'm bored. I think I'll go ride a bike. i hit the road and i'm go-o-o-one / what's my number?

Which one?

I totally do not feel like working today.

@RegDwigнt Take two, they’re small.

2:54 PM
@Robusto I totally do not have to work today, a public holiday.

Well hello there.

I bet Cerberus is jacking off as well.

Oh, what holiday?

I wouldn't know.

Sep 3 '12 at 16:12, by Robusto
@ЯegDwight Whatever floats your boat.

2:55 PM
I never do.

Haha.

@RegDwigнt Also, they would look better had they the Pão de Açúcar behind them.

It is not a public holiday here, that I know.
I'm actually going to hide in the country for the weekend.

Anyway, laters.

Bye!

2:56 PM
I just come to the office on Monday, and overhear someone mention that Friday's a day off. That's how it always works.

@RegDwigнt There’s a quality scale for that?

Except more typically I overhear it on Thursday.

Haha same here.

Sometimes even the next Monday.
That's the worst.

Except when I accidentally look at my diary, which has all the holidays.

2:56 PM
And all your dates.

@tchrist take it up with @Rob. His image.

It has all dates.

@RegDwigнt He would just complain about his broken keyboard.

I do not own Friday, the 15th day Augusti.

@Cerberus that wouldn't help as public holidays differ from state to state.

2:58 PM
Really?

Oh, today's Mariä Himmelfahrt!
Mariä Aufnahme in den Himmel (lateinisch Assumptio Beatae Mariae Virginis), auch Mariä Himmelfahrt oder Vollendung Mariens ist ein Hochfest der römisch-katholischen Kirche am 15. August.

Hmm well, I'm sure there is a Google Calendar with your state's holidays.

@Cerberus ante diem XVIII Kalendas Septembres MMDCCLXVII ab Urbe Condida

There are several for the Dutch holidays.
Hah.
@tchrist They should do that!
Except for the Spanish.

@RegDwigнt Never before has broken wind so fragrantly wafted through all the lands!
