@RegDwighт Nice red.

@JasonBourne thank you. I like your orange, too.

user19161
@RegDwighт Orange? I am blue.

Red? I am magenta.

user19161
Oh, whooshed again.

First thing in the morning.

user19161
11:11 AM
Rebecca Black.

user19161
7 am waking up in the morning

7 is. Not am. I am. But 7 is. Learn English.

I announce that CentOS is actually pretty good!

e.g. "7 is eating 9"

user19161
I announce that Chrome 24 is pretty good in chat as well, doesn't hang so much.

11:14 AM
I announce that DollarOS is a hundred times better than CentOS.

user19161
I announce that there will be GNOME OS and Firefox OS soon.

user19161
I also announce again that Mozilla has a Shumway Project that is meant to render SWF files without having to install Flash.

@JasonBourne oh thank you. So if we don't want someone to hang out in chat much, we now can simply ask them to use Chrome 24.

user19161
Why doesn't Kris delete his negatively voted posts? There are about 70 of them...

I announce I wrote a limerick
why does Kris do anything? We shall never know

user19161
11:17 AM
Also, the same for Thursagen.

He would do anything for love. But he won't do that.

unfathomable he is

user19161
Have you guys tried out the latest avatar upload system?

No. I like my avatar. I imagine it is much like other file upload systems

user19161
Yesterday it did not work too well for me, so I reverted to using gravatar.

11:18 AM
There's an avatar upload system?

user19161
Yes.

user19161
Hover over your profile pic and you will see.

user19161
It is meant to be independent of gravatar.

user19161
However, currently it doesn't sync to network and chat profiles even after editing to copy to all profiles.

It's for noobs anyway. Vets use complicated stuff.

user19161
11:20 AM
Also, what is uploaded cannot be deleted, but fortunately there is only one pic that can be uploaded that way.

like cat anaesthetic

Ha! I just noticed a neat trick.

oh? what's that?

Look at the starred wall.

user19161
Also, note that the gravatar account cannot be deleted!

11:21 AM
lol

user19161
Ha, I did that long ago in the math room.

Yeah I guess in the math room every other message is like that.
Then again, math is not about numbers.
And every other message is about how physicists are their rivals.

> Voor de periode tot aan maart heeft Apple de bestellingen voor iPhone 5-schermen bij Sharp, LG en Japan Display met bijna de helft verlaagd, zeggen twee bronnen.

Gezondhijd.

11:23 AM
"Apple cut orders in half for Iphone-5 screens from manufacturers."
So the Iphone 5 is not selling well.
Yay!

Apple cuts screens in half?

@RegDwighт Blovskimovsky.

oh, I thought you meant smaller screens
jinx

They made them larger just recently.

Apple cut orders in half.

11:24 AM
Poor orders.

then they shot at will

Poor will.

user19161
@reg What made you put on a magenta shade?

It was available.

Better?
You people can't read!

11:25 AM
Who?

Du.

No, yesterday.

No, 7.

No, 7.

I knew you had nothing else to say.

11:26 AM
Why did you stop?

It was easy to take the wind from your sail, as we say in mother Holland.

You mean a brick from your dike.

"Vanquish the tulip with the arms of a windmill" as we say

Xblast time, I say.

Uhh dikes are not made from bricks.
Have you ever seen the sea?

11:28 AM
@Cerberus not now that all bricks have been taken out of them, no.

@MattЭллен OMG we say that too! Such coincidence!

@RegDwighт Because...

houses on stilts are more economically viable than long brick walls around a country

Briwalls?

11:29 AM
I enjoy commenting and closevoting questions these days.

Ah.

yes, my mind moved on before my fingers had finished

user19161
Also, I suspect Kris is my heaviest downvoter.

user19161
I also think that most of his downvotes on my posts are ridiculous.

Everyone does.

user19161
11:33 AM
Should there be a new privilege marker for 25k users?

what would you put there?

user19161
Hmm, maybe more votes per day?

user19161
Or maybe even stronger delete and close votes?

I don't think there's any need.
but then I've not 20K let alone 25

11:57 AM
I once had a ragged old lace
wrapped right 'round the end of a mace
and tied to a cup
from which I would sup
while the mace broke open a case

What happened to Reg?

I think he was just feeling blue.

and a bit embarrassed

Then why is he purple?
Oh. Blue and red together.
I thought that might be his excited color.

That's a myth! Have you ever mixed red paint and blue paint?

12:05 PM
Yes.

1 hour ago, by RegDwighт
I didn't want to be a stupid square.

I have never managed to get purple.

Besides, that isn't paint. Light mixes differently.
Paints are opaque.

Yes, I know that paint and light mix differently.
So pinkish red paint can make purple when mixed with blue. But red-like-a-fire-engine paint can't.
There's too much yellow in it.

Well, then I don't understand how you can never have successfully mixed purple from red and blue paint.
Seems like you know all about it.

12:08 PM
Not a really nice purple.

OK. Try watercolors next time.

No, I just need to use pinky-red, not fire-engine-red. I know the rules.

When I am living a life of leisure, I intend to do watercolor illustrations of my very famous novels.

For the special edition.

12:09 PM
@KitFox :-) :-) :-)

Edward Lear was a great painter, IMO

Which means I need to learn how to paint.

he did some magnificent landscapes

Hey @Matt, did you have a chance to write that stuff for me?

no. What stuff? Sorry I've forgotten all about it

12:11 PM
Same as the exercise for tomorrow, but for the article I was writing for the Nose. No worries though, because I was going to do the exercise anyway, so I will just use that.
Are there any LEGO Mindstorm kits for under $300?

Well, I've written an exercise for tomorrow, if you'd like that one.

That's OK. I just didn't want to disappoint you if you were expecting to...I'm sorry, being social is rather confounding this morning.
It's been a long weekend. I'll share the details after my commute. Later!

12:32 PM
@JasonBourne stingy? It takes a whopping 100 answers to even become eligible. We only have 102 people that have that many. And for those further restrictions apply.

12:43 PM
I only have 389 answers, and only 111 of them have competing answers.

Only 389!?
I have 423.

Either you just aren’t very competitive, or else nobody wants to compete with you and so they are the uncompetitive ones.

@Cerberus you are a manic answering machine

You guys are all slackers.

I am compiling stats right now.

12:45 PM
I have but 209

I have Cerb’s and Matt’s combined, or nearly so.

Bill Franke has 361 answers, and exactly 100 competing ones, but they are on only 81 different questions.
He could upvote every competing answer ever and still not get the badge.

There would be something wrong with the Universe if BF got the Sportsmanship badge. It is not in his nature.

@MattЭллен Yes.
@tchrist Both.

@tchrist well it's not really in anybody's nature the way it's constructed. I mean, if I provide an answer, that's because I'm not satisfied with the answers already there.

12:47 PM
Same here.

I guess that explains why I have 602 answers.

I usually vote an competing answer up if it is either 1.) clearly better than mine, or 2.) also fairly good, but the best answer has the lead.

So you [the generic you] are by definition more likely to upvote a competing answer if it came in after yours. But that only happens if your answer sucks in some regard. Otherwise no further answers are necessary, let alone upvote-worthy.

If the best answer is not on top, I am not voting any of the other answers up, irrespective of author.

12:49 PM
Ergo, this badge rewards posting crap and hoping that someone else posts something better. QED.

@RegDwighт Except if it is still good and you have a comfortable lead.

but the crap has to be just good enough to get a positive score

@Cerberus yes, but that's one step short of gaming the system just to get the badge. :P
@MattЭллен oh right.

Ok, now compile who has the highest ratio of Enlighteneds to overall answer count. Don’t count people with under 100 answers.

so, a well polished turd

user19161
12:51 PM
@KitFox What happened to your pink square? I loved it.

@tchrist I'm pretty high on that list.

I usually look at a [question that I have posted an answer to] at the time of my posting, which will also be the time at which I think I can beat the other answers; in addition, it will be a time at which my answer still has few votes; I will therefore be unlikely to vote competing answers up.

@RegDwighт Why do you think I asked? :)
I checked the usual suspects, and you came out on top. It was not an exhaustive search, though.

Just saying bragging.
You didn't think I'd pass on the opportunity.

@RegDwighт No: it is very much in the spirit of the badge to vote competing answers up if they are good. I won't do it if they are mediocre.

12:52 PM
You’re welcome.

@Cerberus I am referring to the "comfortable lead" part. It's kind of at odds with the very concept of sportsmanship.

user19161
I have a sportsmanship badge on all the accounts I have posted 100 answers to.

I wonder how short a time I can get the badge in...

user19161
I usually upvote all correct answers I see.

@RegDwighт How do you mean? If I think my answer is the best, that doesn't mean I don't think some other answers are also good.

user19161
12:54 PM
My votes are meant to reward correct answers and not to push the best answer to the top.

user19161
A person seeking answers to a question should read all the answers anyway, not just the topmost one.

@JasonBourne I do so at the beginning; later I only upvote answers that are better than average compared to the other answers.
@JasonBourne Ideally, yes.
But I don't always have the "time".

Vote early, vote often.

user19161
However, if my answer is correct and has gotten no votes while the others got many votes, I don't upvote them anymore.

And if I see a good one, my hand just goes towards the button.

12:56 PM
A lot of people say that.

@JasonBourne Yeah.

user19161
I expect the asker to at least have the decency to upvote me if my answer is correct.

@tchrist And so it is.

@tchrist I'm voting late but often

@JasonBourne Of course. But you know OPs...

user19161
12:56 PM
However, some askers are so stingy they don't even give me ten points for a correct answer.

user19161
Even worse, they accept the wrong answer.

Ah, humility.

Humi—what?

@Cerberus how do you mean, then? It was you who added that bit in.

@Cerberus It is one of those foreign, English concepts.

12:58 PM
@RegDwighт My primary concern is for the best answer to win. If one answer is clearly better than the others, but it has only one more vote than the next, I'm not voting up the next.
@tchrist Bleh.

Hullo

Well yeah.

In Holland, we call it subhumility.
In that we are below the ground.

Q: Saying that some action is optional

DolphinI am trying to find phrase or word which would properly cover following statement: You can bring back book tomorrow if you like, and if not it is fine. I am trying to find a way to same that some action is optional, and if not done it will not have repercussions including hurt feelings. Hop...

user19161
I am confused. Is it optional or not optional?
