2:00 AM
New stylesheet, then?

Then type chat.stackexchange.com/rooms/95/english-language-and-usage

user19161
@mah Your avatar is Python. You should be a Python developer in future.

You'll need to create a style.css file and save it in the folder that was created when you made the new extension.
Select it under New Stylesheet.
That's where all the code goes.
So to recap, change the access level and type in the URL of this room, leaving out the http://

Did that.

Then select your style.css file under New Stylesheet.

2:01 AM
The Stylesheets are not being nice to me.

No?

The only have None.

Did you create a new .css file in the directory?

Oh.

user19161
@Mahnax Perhaps the last block can be omitted.

2:02 AM
@JasperLoy I usually just use chat.stackexchange.com, actually.
Since this is the only room I frequent.

user19161
@Mahnax I save no history actually if you remember.

Ok, done all that. Works now.
How does Reg save infinite history?

user19161
@tchrist Another variant. I use OK, others like okay, and you just used Ok.

Good good. Make sure you add !important to all of your lines in the CSS file, and then click Install.
Every time you change the CSS, you'll need to Reload the extension in EB.

What does the not important mean?

user19161
2:03 AM
@rachel I see you have been vegetating in this room for days...

@tchrist It will override other CSS.

"EB"?

Extension Builder.

user19161
@tchrist I thought he meant (important!) at first.

Weird that !important means something oposite to what I should think.
Prefix "!" is programmerese for "not".

2:04 AM
So if the room already has a font-family defined, omitting the !important will not let you change the font.

I bet ! is their comment character?
Oh, the Install and Build Package are greyed out.
Must be the cert thing.

@tchrist Yep.
That's pretty much all there is to it.

I thought you said there was programming? :)
I don't see any loops or variables. :)

I guess CSS isn't really programming.

I never thought of it that way, no.

2:07 AM
But you can add scripts, and then it's programming.

It's not Turing-complete.
Yes, that's right.

I don't know how that works yet though.
I do know a bit of Javascript and all, but I'm not sure how it would all work.

bonk me if the discussion returns to type.

@cornbreadninja When you learn Unix scripting and utilities, it will be nearly the same across all flavors. Not quite, but a lot.

user19161
@cornbreadninja You can gossip with me whatever topic.

2:09 AM
@cornbreadninja I think I'm the only type freak around here.

@tchrist such as sed/awk/vi/vim?
@tchrist I'm working on it.

Somebody chimed in yesterday, I forget who.

@tchrist I think MetaEd.

@cornbreadninja Yes, but I was thinking sh scripts.
Well, or perl scripts.
I wouldn't bother with sed and awk anymore now that perl replaces them.
But I am biased.

But you're always thinking perl scripts, aren't you?

2:10 AM
I am intrigued.

I'm always thinking in perl.

Right.
I think I like this font.

Now you're thinking with portals.

You're using Alfios?

2:11 AM
@JasperLoy umm... hmm.

@tchrist Nah, something else.

user19161
@cornbreadninja So what do you want to talk about? Let's start a new topic.

Oh.

I'll try Alfios.

How does The five boxing wizards jump quickly look?

2:12 AM
Ooh, Alfios is great.
@cornbreadninja alt + 0133

or pack my box with five dozen liquor jugs.
@Mahnax sigh

@cornbreadninja Haha.
Just try it.
@tchrist For you it'll be alt + ;

I did
The pachyderms one is my favorite

Isn't it pretty?

Huh?

2:14 AM
How does it go?

 ij 0133 LATIN SMALL LIGATURE IJ
        * Dutch
        # 0069 006A

confused

Jelly-like above the high wire, six quaking pachyderms kept the extravaganza in a dizzying flux.
or something

How is that pretty?

2:14 AM
You'd think I would know it, since it's my favorite. ._.

The boxing wizards looks much better in Arno Pro, or even Alfios.

The ellipsis is alt + 0133, isn't it?

yes
for windas

No.

user19161
Oh right, ellipsis is not the same as ... in terms of spacing.

2:15 AM
It is
 …  2026        HORIZONTAL ELLIPSIS
        = three dot leader
        x (vertical ellipsis - 22EE)
        x (presentation form for vertical horizontal ellipsis - FE19)
        # 002E 002E 002E
It's codepoint 2026.

Bah.

If you have the Unicode input keyboard enable, then you type its codepoint as Option + 2026.
There may be a MacRoman shortcut. Let me check.
There is.

But if you're just on the regular keyboard and type alt + ;, you get the ellipsis. On Mac.

œ∑´®†¥¨ˆøπ“‘≥≥˘¯¯˜Øˆ¨‚·—‚°—‚·—¸ÍβÇÏ˝◊ ÓÔÒÚÒ¯˘¿˘¿¯Â˜ı⁄€‹›fifl‡°·‚——‚·Œ„´‰ˇÁ¨ˆØ∏”’ÆÚÒ‌ÔÓ˝ÏÎÍŸ˛Ç◊ı˜Â¯˘¿œ∑´®†¥¨ˆøπ“‘¡™£¢∞§¶•ªº–«æ…¬˚∆˙©ƒ∂ßåΩ≈ç√∫˜µ≤≥÷
Oh.
That is what I was looking for.
…………

And on Windows it is alt + 1033.

2:18 AM
That is what I meant about a better shortcut.
That's stupid.

♫♪ we don't need another mountain / there are mountains and hillsiiiiiides enough to climb ♫♪

Code point 1033 is:
   ဳ 1033 MYANMAR VOWEL SIGN MON II

Haha.

°—°

switches to Dvorak
D.nnrw .k.pfrb.v
That went well.

2:19 AM
I might now be sober enough for calligraphy. Let's see.

user19161
I tried Chinese calligraphy in the past.

𝑰 𝒎𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕 𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒃𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒃𝒆𝒓 𝒆𝒏𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒑𝒉𝒚. ‌𝑳𝒆𝒕’𝒔 𝒔𝒆𝒆.
And no one but @MᵃʰⁿAX can see it.

user19161
Wow you are really into type. You should invent your own font @tch.

@JasperLoy Noted:
13 mins ago, by tchrist
@cornbreadninja I think I'm the only type freak around here.

@tchrist ._.

2:24 AM
@Mahnax You should also try Arno Pro to see whether you like that.

@tchrist I see what you did there.

Oh, I thought you meant the sober bit.

I just had the one drink, but I am small.

@tchrist Sure.
Not bad, but I liked Alfios more.

Hm, Games Workshop has released the "official" Hobbit movie miniatures set. This has many more characters and situations than we were expecting to see.
Yes, that’s why I use Alfios for my slides.
Minion Pro is not bad, either.
It is by the same designer as Arno Pro.
Some people like Minion better than Arno.
My publisher was going to switch to Arno but settled on Minion instead.
Alfios isn't really suitable for full professional work because it only comes in one weight.
Well, for a full book I should say.
You need other weights for things like titles.
George Douros does make nice fonts.
Robert Slimbach is the Arno and Minion designer. He works for Adobe.

2:29 AM
Well, you kids have fun. I'm out of here for a bit.

user19161
@Mahnax Bye. KFC!

@tchrist not an O'Reilly?

Yes, O’Reilly.
My last book is a bunch of fonts, mostly Birka with some Arno and others.

I thought every O'Reilly book had to be in The Offically Sanctioned O'Reilly Typeface.
Even the Head First series, but their own.
Grr, Head First Android.

2:46 AM
@cornbreadninja It does.
If it can be.
Mine was the last one in their old Birka. Birka doesn't have more than ASCII and a few accented characters. We had to supplement, very heavily.

@tchrist :\

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 My work is done.
For now.

@tchrist how did you do that?

@cornbreadninja Jukebox. Earworm.

@Mitch yes
I wish that ink bottles were differently shaped. >_<

3:07 AM
@cornbreadninja ?? than the klein bottle?
@cornbreadninja and your given name is superheroish except that it's already taken, it's kinda long, and WTF, what does it mean?

what does any of this mean

3:36 AM
@cornbreadninja I don't really understand the question.

3:46 AM
I'll go in reverse order for the hell of it.
@tchrist with what did you supplement Birka?
@Mitch it's a dumb story I will relate shortly.
@Mitch umm a Speedball bottle.
The story of my name:
Round these parts we have Boston Market, a chain of comfort food-type food.
Lots of meals come with a little cornbread.
It is tasty, but I always forget to ask for butter and can't finish it anyway, so I give it to Work Tim.
I've done this for years.
I usually slip into his cube and set it down inside of a napkin without him noticing.

The cover font is Adobe ITC Garamond. The text font is Linotype Birka, the heading font is Myriad Pro, and the code font is Ubuntu Mono, with the following fonts used as fallbacks to display unsupported glyphs:

• Adobe Song Std
• Arno Pro
• Free Mono
• Free Serif
• ST Heiti SC
• Symbola

One day, he wasn't there. He was in a meeting. I tracked him down.

@cornbreadninja Does that answer your question?

He had his back to the door, so I slipped in and set it down. Other people noticed, but not him.

In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.

3:49 AM
I said to him later, I'm a cornbread ninja!
@jcao219 well, okay.

:)

@tchrist what a cornucopia.
@tchrist yes.

I did say it was complicated.
That’s ten different fonts used.
I intentially did not use any RTL text, which would have required other fonts still.
Like Arabic or Hebrew.
Nor did I inject any Tengwar as I kept threatening. :)

@cornbreadninja that's pretty stealthy of you.

But I was certainly read to do so:
4 hours ago, by tchrist

That’s a mono, for use in programming and such.
Meaning it is a constant-width font.
I can’t believe someone made a Tengwar Mono.

3:54 AM
@tchrist Tolkien must be rolling over in his grave
clearly all programming would be done using dwarvish runes. duh

@tchrist I don't know if you draw, but typecooker.com/# is fun.

The Cirth (; "Runes") are the letters of a semi-artificial script which was invented by J. R. R. Tolkien for the constructed languages he devised and used in his works. The initial C in Cirth is pronounced as a K, never as an S. The runic alphabet used by the Dwarves of Middle-earth was adapted by J.R.R. Tolkien from real-life runes. In The Hobbit, the Anglo-Saxon futhorc was used in the publication with few changes; in The Lord of the Rings a new system of runes, the Cirth, was devised. Since the Cirth is an alphabet, one rune generally stands for one sound (phoneme) and sounds that wo...
Prettier:
Except that that is the Ring inscription, so is in the Black Speech.
Which is not pretty.
But at least it has ligatures.

@tchrist I was gonna say... those are descenders. :P But you changed it from 'legs'.
And I'm sure that you knew that.

I did.
Drawing has never been one of my gifts.
I have attempted calligraphy.
I am somewhat handicapped for traditional work, though.
I’m left-handed.

I think I'd like to be a sign painter.
@tchrist there are nibs for that.

3:58 AM
I know.
I have them.

:\
Time for the horizontal <div>

That’s kurth.
Well, keerth.
