6:00 PM
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Are you saying my ass is fat?

@MrShinyandNew安宇 rakes litterbox

Next time don't go jogging on my nerves.

@KitFox That would be a folly to say that

user19161
@Gigili But seriously, why the sudden "I hate you"? Did someone do something?

@MrShinyandNew安宇 narrows eyes You haven't even seen my ass.

6:01 PM
@KitFox hence why it would be foolish

user19161

@ClarkKent I was serious all the time.

(also foolish because you don't say things like that... but still! two reasons why it's foolish)

user19161
Geezis, now there is a Batman as well.

I have to tell you guys something.
I bought the old Star Wars trilogy on BluRay today.

6:03 PM
Was my previous sentence correct, @MrSh?

I want to watch the first one so we can decide if my eldest is old enough to watch it.

how old is your eldest?
I can't remember the first time I watched it

My husband and I had an argument over which to show him first.

@Gigili Which sentence?

user19161
I don't even know what bluray is. I mean I heard of it of course.

6:04 PM
@KitFox 4,5,6!

4 mins ago, by Gigili
Next time don't go jogging on my nerves.

user19161
However I do love to eat the stingray.

@KitFox How is that even a question? IV, of course!

1,2 and 3 were never made

Exactly.

6:05 PM
@MattЭллен He's just four, but keenly interested in Star Wars on account of LEGO Stars Wars.

user19161
@Gigili It is correct but not a fixed expression.

Or at least you shouldn't find out about those until you're old enough to understand.

@Gigili It's not idiomatic... at least I've never heard the expression "jogging on my nerves", but it makes sense.

user19161
@Gigili I took it as your creative use of the language.

Ok.

6:05 PM
I also asserted that the original first three were not as scary/boring/difficult to explain what happened to his mommy.

OK.

Hmm, but maybe a 4 year old would enjoy 1 better, since the central character is a kid

18 secs ago, by Gigili
OK.

user19161
@Gigili Usual expressions are "getting on my nerves" and "hit a raw nerve". You may look them up in a dictionary of your choice.

@Kit Your husband wanted to start with I, II, III?

6:06 PM
Well, he thought maybe...then I stomped on his testicles and he said he was sorry he'd brought it up.

The problem with starting with the prequels is that, having been made after the sequels, they are told with the notion that you've already seen the OT

a smart kid that likes to build stuff

@ClarkKent That I already knew.

user19161
@KitFox If that happened they would be broken by now.

They make jokes that refer to events in the OT
They spoil plot twists in the OT

6:07 PM
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Thank you.

@MrShinyandNew安宇 Old Testam.. Oh Original Trilogy! :D

user19161
@Gigili As usual, I give the most detailed reply but nobody thanks me.

@MattЭллен But it's tremendously boring and slow and I'd have to explain how it wasn't awful that he had to leave his mommy in slavery.

@MattЭллен PT = prequel trilogy, OT = original trilogy
I didn't buy the Blu-rays because they changed Return of the Jedi AGAIN

6:08 PM
And I haven't seen 3, but then I'd have to explain how Amidala is dead and stuff.
And that his favorite character is a bad guy.

user19161
@KitFox Sounds like amygdala.

@KitFox ah.

@MrShinyandNew安宇 I really wanted an old version, the one I know, but that was the only option.

@KitFox in III he gets badder throughout the movie.

@ClarkKent I had the same thought when I first heard it :D

user19161
6:09 PM
Hmm, I ain't a Star Wars fan, but what's so nice about it?

Of course, he's going to find out pretty quickly that Bouncy Man aka Darth Vader is a bad guy.

@KitFox they aren't selling the DVDs anymore? Although maybe you prefer high-def to the original versions...

@ClarkKent Thank you but your answers are always unnecessarily detailed. Like, when I ask about rain you tell me about the history of water.

user19161
@MattЭллен Indeed. Fools seldom differ.

user19161
@Gigili I am full of wisdom, in case you have not realized. I speak not as the world speaks, but from the depths of me.

6:10 PM
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Well, maybe, but I was in a hurry. Besides, I think we have one BluRay disc and this nice player and everything...
Gosh this bed is cozy.

user19161
@KitFox Soon the sandwich will arrive too.

I wonder how much effort I would need to expend to make it convincing that I had actually done something today.

@ClarkKent Star Wars (specifically, the original trilogy) was a really fun film that captured people's imagination and hearts with a space story that featured decent storytelling, likeable characters, and a secret order of wizards who use swords made out of light. Plus toys. It had lots of toys.

@ClarkKent No. No sammies for me.
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Yay toys!

I miss watching my best friend's VHS copy of the original trilogy on a crappy little TV.
Way before the stupid PT even came out.

6:13 PM
My folks recorded it on to VHS, so when we watched it there were adverts :D

@KitFox Well, I'm not saying you made a mistake in buying the blu ray. Your son won't mind. He doesn't remember the film in its original, better form.

Well, I'm saying that I'm not sure I have any choice in the matter anyway.

On my desk right now there is a Lego AT-AT, two Lego Millenium Falcons, a TIE Interceptor, a snowspeeder, Han Solo on a Taun-taun, and about 30 minifigs recreating the battle of Hoth

Did I mention that my son loves LEGO Star Wars?

@KitFox Yeah. Well, it's not a big deal anyway. It's just that for ME, personally, George Lucas has made one change too many and I'm insulted.

6:15 PM
He asks me to tell him stories from Lego Star Wars and also from just Star Wars.

@MrShinyandNew安宇 I do wish they would stop fussing with things every time it gets remastered. It really messes with my memory. (But the other reason I don't own the Blu-rays is that I don't think I yet own anything that can play them... we kind of got to DVDs and stopped there.)

@KitFox you might have mentioned that.

Q: What to do against downvote troll?

Em1Someone around here likes to downvote every post of me, of course without giving any reason why he downvote my question/answer. All started one month ago, luckily an automatism reverted the downvotes. Just 5 days later, the next posts have been voted down, but not enough that the reversal aut...

user19161
I am trying to divine who would downvote em1.

@MrShinyandNew安宇 Yeah. He really sucks great big donkey—never mind.

6:16 PM
@aediaλ just be glad they've not rehamstered it, although that might be very cute...

@MrShinyandNew安宇 Did I also mention that he is at LEGO camp this week?

user19161
He has not made any offensive comments. I guess someone just hates his questions.

@aediaλ I only just got a Blu-ray player at Christmas. But I would have loved to pop Star Wars in there and bask in its amazing soundtrack and the high-def visuals. But the fact that GL took the WORST PART of Ep. III and copied it into Ep. VI is just too annoying for words.

I was worried that he would think he was going to play the video game all day.

@MattЭллен Aww. We did that too with some things... kind of gives me a warm fuzzy feeling thinking of it, oddly enough.

6:17 PM
I nearly laughed out loud in the theatre when Darth Vader says "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!" in Ep. III. Well, he does that now in RotJ.

Stop! Stop talking about it!

@KitFox You did mention that.

I can't do anything about it.
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Are you sure? Because I could mention it again...

@ClarkKent Good for you. Your wisdom is overflowing now that I look very closely.

@KitFox I am actually jealous. I never got to go to a lego camp.

6:18 PM
Maybe I will rip the bluray and patch nothingness over it, then burn it back to disc.
@MrShinyandNew安宇 I know. Pretty cool, right?

So @Kit did you ever watch the Special Edition trilogy?
@KitFox yes, it's pretty damn cool. What do they do there?

@MrShinyandNew安宇 I think I watched the anniversary edition of A New Hope in the theatre. That's the last new version of any of them that I saw.

@KitFox in 1997

@MrShinyandNew安宇 "Mommy, I had so much fun, I don't remember what we did!"

It's not LEGO camp at all. It's a camp run by the AI singularity teaching children how to best help bring it about. With LEGO
2

6:20 PM
@MrShinyandNew安宇 Yep. With the big ex, no less.

@KitFox did he actually say that? awesome :)

I think they build different stuff, like "how tall can you make it?" "how fast can it go?" or something.

ok, so the SE edition of Star Wars Ep IV was not bad. There are two really annoying changes but they're right at the start and both involve Han Solo. The rest of the chagnes are good or neutral.

And they are painting their own bricks or somehow doing some sort of artwork with LEGO.
@MrShinyandNew安宇 What? They did something to Han Solo?

did they make him shoot second?

6:22 PM
But in the SE RotJ they completely changed the musical scene in Jabba's palace. Instead of the puppet aliens singing their jazzy tune, there's a god-damn dancing furball bouncing around and singing this ridiculous rock song. It's really awful.

WHAT!?!?

@MattЭллен yes

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO NOT WANT!

@MrShinyandNew安宇 Are you kidding me?

6:23 PM
@KitFox You're trolling me, right? "Let's see if we can make the star wars fanboi loose his shit while telling others about the SE changes"

No, I seriously have seen none of the new editions, except the one you said.

@KitFox Well, then, you saw the change

No, I didn't see RotJ.
The new one, I mean.

@KitFox oh... no, I meant the "Han Shot First/Second" bit is in Star Wars... the singing furball is in Jedi

I only saw A New Hope.

6:24 PM
WHAT?
I
am like ten messages late

Remember at the beginning of the movie, when Han is in the cantina, and Greedo comes to him and says that Jabba is mad because Han dumped some cargo before being boarded? And Han shoots Greedo? Original: Han just shoots Greedo. SE: Greedo shoots Han, point-blank, misses, Han shoots back. DVD: both shoot at the same time.

@MrShinyandNew安宇 I don't remember that. But it was over 9000 years ago. The only difference I remember seeing was a whatarethosethingscalled wandering the streets outside the cantine.

I know about the shooting, but what's about this furball?

The other annoying change in A New Hope is that RIGHT AFTER Han shoots Greedo he goes outside and Jabba is there and they have the EXACT SAME conversation with the exact same lines. It's a totally useless scene and it undermines Jabba's character and Han's. It's lame.
@aediaλ You seriously don't know?

Huh. I don't remember that either.
Fuck. I have made a terrible mistake.

6:27 PM
ctrl+z?

No, but I haven't actually opened the package yet.
I could still return it.
But then what?

No... even if you return it, there isn't much choice
These changes are all on the DVDs too
There is a set of DVDs that come with the "Original Original Trilogy" and the SE trilogy. But my brother has them and he says the OOT is unwatchable because they didn't do a good job on the DVD transfer.

Why? Why? Why would somebody do that?

If my star wars DVDs caught fire and melted, I'd probably buy the Blu Rays to replace them

6:30 PM
ponders

But since I already HAVE the DVDs and I find the BluRay changes insulting I won't RE-BUY them on BD.

I wonder if I could transfer my VHS copies.

but for You, @Kit, who don't have the DVDs... and considering it's for your son... keep the BDs. You can show your son the VHS copies when he's older and he can become a true SW nerd and go to school and talk about how his awesome mom has these "old" SW copies, like, not BD or anything, and they're DIFFERENT
BTW that Youtube vid I posted... ugh. I can't get the song out of my head and it's making my blood pressure go up.

But...but...how is he going to understand the backing track at the cantina in Lego Star Wars?

For those of you keeping score at home, here's another way George Lucas is an asshole: the kind of music they play in Jabba's Palace isn't called "jazz", it's called "jizz"
@KitFox Lego Star Wars is a different telling of Star Wars. Kinda like how there are so many different tellings of Pinocchio or Cinderella.

6:35 PM
Holy crap. What if...I don't know where my tapes are!

@KitFox and do you still have a working VCR?

@MrShinyandNew安宇 For the moment. I have been trying to find time to copy old tapes.
Damn. We used to have the laserdisc version as well.

This is what I remember... so this is from before the 1997 SE?

Yep.
Damn I like me some Boba Fett.
3
I probably encouraged my son's interest in the bounty hunter a little too much.

6:46 PM
I think I must have seen that scary song you posted, @MrShiny, since I'm sure I've seen a more recent copy at some point, but I must have tried to block it out.

@aediaλ I never saw the SE RotJ until I got it on DVD. And wasn't looking at the screen when that song came on. And then they started singing and I was like WHAT. THE. FUCK.
So wikipedia has a list of all the changes made over the years. Reading this list I get the feeling that either filmmaking is really really hard to get right, or else GL just doesn't know when to stop tweaking. Also: they need version control.

Yeah, I saw that.
It is funny that he insists on destroying the good ones.
"No! You can't have the ones that everyone loved! There will only be the ones that your grandchildren will tolerate you forcing them to watch because at least it is something!"
Maybe when he is dead...
But then copyright.
Stupid Disney.

7:03 PM
Dear freaking space ghosts, that's a lot of changes even before the SE.
Grr! Why would we need perfectly good action cut up to see Vader get in and out of his shuttle?
I'm going to have to stop looking at this before I get mad.

I think it's funny that the SE version has additional scenes of Oola, the Twi'lek dancer, played by the same actress 15 years later, who was said to be in even better shape than before.

I was just reading that bit.

huh, this article includes the list of changes for Episode II IMAX. I remember seeing it in IMAX and I noticed that they cut some of the romance scenes and thought that the move was much better off that way. But they also cut a scene where Owen Lars introduces himself and Beru. Which mean you had no idea who those people were.

Hahaha

ARRGH I just got up to the part about Anakin's ghost changing, so I've seen whatever (post-2004 I guess?) DVD that was. And I'm totally closing that tab now, before I am tempted to go over to the dark side.

7:15 PM
I thought he did a terrible job with uh. Everything.

Indeed.

I didn't mind the ghost change too much. It makes more sense that way if you've seen the other movies.
Frig. How is it possible that I saw it so many times and yet now will never see it again?

Well, there's always the "Limited Edition" dvds that have the original original trilogy, I guess.

I just finished reading an article about how really awful those were, and probably intentionally so.
I could get the VHS tapes still, the 1995 versions, if I can't find mine, but that would only be useful if I can actually pirate them.
So that I can make DVD copies to watch.
Or BluRay. But I wouldn't sell them!
...maybe my brother has the tapes.

I bet my brother still has his late '80s THX VHS tapes. But now after reading that list of changes it seems even THOSE editions have mistakes and other changes that were later un-changed in the SE editions. Gods, Lucasfilm really comes off as sloppy when you see all the pointless changes that they made and unmade over the years
@KitFox yeah so it boils down to "George Lucas wipes his ass with your money"

7:29 PM
I think I might be OK with the 1995 versions, if I could watch them again and decide.
Well, I'm off. I'm going to look through some boxes and maybe have a little kip.

Bai!

I can't wait until my kids can watch Star Wars
but my daughter is way too sensitive. She'll be terrified.
well time for me to go. bye!

Q: Where can I find an online website that allows ME to diagram MY sentences?

DianaGishCMTIn other words, I want to fill in a form with the parts of speech and have it appear as a diagrammed sentence?

I would really like to help, but I only visit offline websites.
2
Though I've heard there must be a couple online websites on the world wide internet blog browser.
From Microsoft.

@RegDwightΒВBẞ8 Where can I download it?
Online website sounds like round ball.

8:29 PM

3 hours later…
11:32 PM
This is the most amateurish survey I have ever seen.
1.) I don't use a phone at my work place: it is unnecessary and even impolite to do so where I work. 2.) I don't own any of those devices, and yet I am not allowed to leave the boxes empty.
These people have no prior knowledge of me at all, mind you.
They just assume.
