7:00 PM
I really enjoy skating

@KitFox if you can learn to write VB.net scripts that call stored procedures, you can learn to skate.

whistles That is one fancy palace.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 The code was easy. Skating...well, I'm not really very graceful.

indeed! I'm surprised we got to go there, we used to have the christmas lunch in the canteen

I hope you snuck off to have sex in it.
Or at least a good wank.
That sort of place just begs for it.
With all its velvet and gilding.
And its historicity.

Isn't gilded like glazed?

7:03 PM
You are an evil man.

@KitFox lol. no. I'm British.

That's why I said "wank."

LOL
I just don't quite have the chops to chat up the waitresses

@MattЭллен that's why you're supposed to bring your SO along

@JSBձոգչ Stack Overflow? They give chatting up advice too?!

7:06 PM
@JSBձոգչ or at least your MSO

(i'm very happy that i was just able to use my generics and lambda-fu to eliminate ~30 lines of repetitive copypasta code)

(woohoo!)

@JSBձոգչ Yay!

@JSBձոգչ That's true. My husband is much more successful when he can use me as a selling point.
@MattЭллен "Evolution is just a theory." "So is gravity."

7:09 PM
@KitFox ah! Mr. Minchin. :D

@MattЭллен Blenheim is great!

@Cerberus I didn't go for a nose around, but the gardens looks beautiful. It was a bit cold for me to have a proper wander, though.

Yes.
I think I have been to Blenheim.
So how many of you were there?
Did you rent a ball room?

I'm not sure... 50 or there abouts
we hired the orangery

Sounds much more fun than our party.

7:16 PM
Nice.
@KitFox What did you do?

the guys who organised it did a christams themed quiz. my table came joint 4th out of 9

@Cerberus Had a three hour lunch at a restaurant.

Hmm.
That is...long?
Boring?

@MattЭллен Funny. I would have thought you knew more about Christmas that that.

Depends on your colleagues, I suppose.
@MattЭллен Not bad...

7:17 PM
I was directly across from my project lead and his wife.

@KitFox apparently not. I don't know the names of all the reindeer, or the three wisemen, or the name of the angel in "It's a wonderful life"

Ahhhh.

or any of the answers, actually

And right between my work spouse and very attractive new girl.

Poor you.
Work spouse?
New girl sounds nice.

7:18 PM
Which was difficult since the project lead kept playing footsies with me.
And I kept trying to not barf.
Especially since it was confusing my signals to the new girl.

@MattЭллен I would have known Caspar, Gregorius, and...Balthasar? Melchior? Hmm...
@KitFox No way!

Caspar, Balthazaar and Melchior.

By accident?

@Cerberus balthasar, melchior and caspar

@Cerberus Who the hell knows.

7:19 PM
jinx!

Ohh...
All this is too confusing.

Not to be confused with Shadrach, Meschach and Abednego.

@KitFox Or Gothmog, Lungorthin, and Durin's Bane

Right. Slightly less Biblical those.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Better.

7:22 PM
You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen. Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen. But do you recall the most famous reindeer of all?
I never noticed how ironic those lyrics are.

Shylock wasn't a reindeer

spittake
Matthew!

@KitFox bows

nods

7:26 PM
@KitFox I always thought it was a "fun" way to introduce a non-canonical reindeer.
Of course I have arguments with people about how tall Santa is.
So don't listen to me.

He's short and round if you believe the rhyme.
A right jolly old elf.
I think the reindeer names are funny. They have two German reindeer, a couple of sluts, some gay ones, and Comet. And Dasher.

Which are cars. I think.
Maybe I'm thinking of Dart.
Comet is definitely a car.

Comet is a car in Grand Theft Auto.

The German ones are just weather. Thunder and lightning.

A pretty decent one.
@MετάEd I know, but they are rather different compared to the others.

7:32 PM
Yeah, a Dasher is a VW.

♬ We three Balrogs of Moria Are ♬
♬ Bearing whips we travel a-far ♬
♬ By dwarves awoken, under mountain ♬
♬ For Morgoth we ride to war ♬
♬ O, O, Ring of Power, Gems of Light
♬ Elvish lords and Dwarvish might
♬ They'll be bleeding, Westward-fleeing,
♬ Morgoth will regain the Night!

Min Donner was a character in the Gap sequence.
@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 claps

@KitFox nah it's not that good. Totally uncanonical

It's kind of like naming the reindeer Bubbles, Sparkle, Shiny, Rainbow, Glitter, Brilliance, Blight, and Plague.
Putting in Thunder and Lightning, I mean.

> But now, it's questionable whether breaking apart [HP] would get any more value out of it, other than freeing up HP's Personal Systems Group to swim clear of the wreckage. As they stand now, few of the other units could survive independently after being dependent on the teat of HP's printer ink for so long.
Interesting metaphor.

7:37 PM
Mmm. Ink.
I'm probably the only freak that likes the taste of ink.
So metallic. So delicious.

Odd.
I am never sure whether it isn't unhealthy.

> Ralph, the Infrared Nosed Reindeer, who is Rudolph's brother and has a nose that emits infrared heat.

So I try to limit my consumption.

@KitFox you can either download the PNGs, or just look at them in your browser (which is why they are there in the first place), or download the actual model of your choice in two different formats, that allow you to view them in a whole number of programs (and even generate instructions of your own in a format of your choice, like PDF), for which you'd have to first install said programs, of course.

Yeah. Thanks.
I installed LDD.

7:39 PM
Oh that's very cool.

beams
I also put my my son's two sets in Rebrickable.

I didn't expect you to go to such great lengths. Then again, with just 200 parts that's an excellent alternative to actual bricks. Build anything you want in any color, and then you can still export a parts list and order everything you need at like 10 cents per part on average.

> “As a challenger in a very competitive market, T-Mobile needs to change the strategy when their postpaid base is shrinking in each quarter,” said Chetan Sharma, an independent telecom analyst, in an e-mail to Ars.

@RegDwighт I would really rather have him think that the usual mode is to get the instructions and then order parts rather that buying expensive sets.

7:42 PM
If anything isn't competitive...

What do you have when you put two flamers and two ballerinas in two cars in a rainstorm? Reindeer.

@KitFox haha then I guess you are starting not a second too early.
@MattЭллен what is number five?

@MattЭллен Hmm Pallando?
Did he make that name up?

@RegDwighт > 5. The Giver - Once known as the Alatar the Blue, he was, like Gandalf and the other Wizards, tasked with undermining Sauron.

Oh you mean I must read?
Disappoint.
So far I've spent all my time trying to fit the picture in my browser.

7:45 PM
Buy a new one.

@RegDwighт coughs

@Cerberus I'm sure he made it all up
well, apart from Glorfindel

Pallando doesn't sound very Tolkienesque.

@RegDwighт So we'll see what he thinks of these really cool Lego animals.

Yippiee!

7:47 PM
Well, don't get too excited. They don't have rockets or wings or canopies.

> Blue Wizards are fictional characters in J.R.R. Tolkien's legendarium. They are two of the five Wizards (or Istari) sent by the Valar to Middle-earth to aid in the struggle against Sauron. They are called the Blue Wizards on account of their sea-blue robes (each of the other Istari had robes of a different colour), and their individual names are given in the Unfinished Tales as Alatar and Pallando.

@KitFox Last week I put them on MOCpages, and I actually thought that you were that mom who was the only person to comment on it. Until I read past the first couple words. And when I saw their nickname I regretted ever suspecting you.

@RegDwighт Where?

oh, well, there you go. I guess he took some of the names from Tolkien then

That's different than where you linked?

Hee hee hahahaha.
I think my little one will really like them.

@KitFox little do you know, I now have a full-time job promoting them. Brickshelf, the official LEGO site, Rebrickable, ReBrick (different from ReBrickable, more like Reddit or StumbleUpon specifically for LEGO), Flickr, LEGO Subreddit, AFOL Subreddit.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 But why did Tolkien pick "Pallando"?

@RegDwighт OK. I will have to retweet or whatever is fashionable these days.

And MOCpages.

7:51 PM
@Cerberus Ask him, not me.
I just quoted wikipedia
my work here is done.
penis time!

@KitFox right. That's the thing I don't touch with poles. I should outsource some of my job to you.

@Mr.ShinyandNew安宇 Ehh...

@RegDwighт Well, I don't actually have a Twitter account.

@Cerberus I think he means he is to ride the flying penis

Most probably.

7:52 PM
@KitFox now sit for a second because I'll tell you something. I actually do.

@KitFox Good!

Not that I know how to use it, or have ever logged in, or ever would.

@RegDwighт OMG

@MattЭллен Or he's screening gay dating profiles again.

I have it because I needed it to get free bandwidth for Tunnelbear or something.

7:53 PM
@KitFox true. could be that

@RegDwighт mind = blown

Of course I don't use it.
I still don't understand it.

And now it's soup time.
Borshch, actually.

@RegDwighт Jinx.
Yay!
I want Borshch!

There. Couldn't find a borshch coke, but that's borshch beer right there.

7:55 PM
Yay!
Is that Borshch?

I see that for the first time in my life.

I didn't know you spelled shch with that letter.

But that's what the label says, yes.

Ah.

disappears with mouth full of black bread

7:56 PM
In fact, I had no idea that the word was correctly translitterated with shch.
I spell Borscht.
Bai!

I spell kangaroo!

@Cerberus quote If we assume that the Pallan- element in his name is related to the common palan-, meaning 'far' or 'distant', then Pallando can be interpreted as either 'Far(-travelling) One' or (much less likely) 'He who comes from afar'.

That's an OK beer.
@tchrist Think your hyphen is misplaced.

Not mine.

I don't know, it sounds fishy.
Double l?
And where does -do come from?

8:08 PM
-ing
Shadowing.

-Ingdo?

There. Fixed it.
@Cerberus No, -ando = -ing.
So Pall + ing.
See? Easy.

But...not in Tolkien's languages...

pfft

And pall- = ?

8:09 PM
pall.

Oh, pall.

Shadow.

Well...

giggles

@tchrist I am sure that should be "Fart-ravelling One". It's onomatopoeia.

8:11 PM
If I could speak an Elven language, now would be the time.

Pal-lando. Friend of the Calrissians. Duh.

The who?

Look it up, fuzzball.
Oh. Someone's jacked up on caffeine.

The Cardassians are an extraterrestrial species in the Star Trek science fiction franchise. First introduced in the 1991 Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Wounded", the species originated on the fictional Alpha Quadrant planet Cardassia Prime. Cardassians were the dominant species in an interplanetary empire known as the Cardassian Union, ruling over other species, including the Bajorans, during the 24th century. The Cardassians later played a key role in the storyline of the series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as allies of the Dominion in the Dominion War. Several Cardassian ...

Calrissian is Star Wars no?

8:16 PM
@JohanLarsson Yes. Thank you.

Let the Uruk win

I kind of feel like sparring.

I know the Cardassians.
For the longest time I thought this television series about the Kardashians (or however it's spelled) was about an alien race.
Turns out I was right.

Of course you were right.

Of course indeed.

A: Is a "doozy" a good or bad thing?

AmirHELLLLLOOOOOOO it originated from the Deusenberg cars of 1913-1937. Extraordinarily large, expensive, massive luxurious vehicles. The term "deusy" was used to describe such items and things. "Look at that house man its a doozy (should be "deusy")

B(l)ah.

8:54 PM
Has anyone heard of/used PDFsharp for exporting to pdf from asp.net pages?
Or used some other tool for that?

have I?
hmm
apparently I've used ITextSharp
but that was for join PDFs together
for generating pages I paid for a tool...
what was that?

@MattЭллен That looks nice.
Holy crap, I am really cranked up.
I am outta here. Catch you later!

I used windward for generating pdfs from word docs in asp.net
@KitFox CU

Ok, so 12/12/12 makes Kit manic. Good to know.

9:19 PM
There are already three silver badges awarded for the vegetal insult question. Wanna bet it goes gold?

Jun 29 '11 at 12:59, by Robusto
"Praises of the unworthy are felt by ardent minds as robberies of the deserving." — Coleridge
Gee, I wish I could ask stupid vegetable questions. I'm just not clever like that.

9:36 PM
The complexity of that program is O(nlogn).
Here is the hall of infamy page:
14.4% of those gold badges are awarded to questions that were closed.

that's awful
i say that we rescind those badges and prosecute those who obtained them as enemies of the people

sarcasm detector begins to overheat

10:00 PM
@cornbreadninja: I can't even read:
In the case of the NYC subway system at least, it can be called turnstile- or fare-hopping. — cornbread ninja 3 hours ago
Whatever the most accurate label, the term 'scofflaw' is also directed towards turnstile jumpers (wait, is that it?), along with people who don't pay parking tickets and ... who else is a scofflaw? — Mitch 1 min ago

Q: Diplomatic Correspondence

Orhan AydinI'm quite interested in writing "Diplomatic Correspondence". Would anyone be able to help me in that respect. Thank you.

Is the answer he's looking for a straightforward 'yes' or 'no'?
@Robusto That could keep a middle school English class busy for hours. notes job opportunity when the revolution comes

10:41 PM
@Mitch huh? what?
howdy @sp'oom
@Robusto ooh, a sarcasm detector. oh, that's a really great idea.

11:25 PM
@Robusto OFFS
@Mitch We’re getting faster around here: that one was deleted an hour after it was posted, and at −3, too. On SO, I’ve seen things hit double-digit negatives that get deleted in just 11 minutes. And these aren’t even spam or something a mod would summarily axe. Just boneheadednesses.
@Mitch Who else is a scofflaw? Speeders. Double-parkers. Underdocumented resident aliens. People who pay their nannies, housekeepers, and gardeners in unreported cash. People who smoke pot outside of Colorado or Washington. And Nortonn, of course.

11:43 PM
@tchrist Nortonn's been quiet.

@MετάEd For what, a day or two?
He does that sometimes.

Oh, that reminds me. There were some more NS questions closed. I should check whether the timer is up yet for deletevotes.
Nope.
But I get closevotes back in five minutes.
@tchrist :D

I have one to spare I think.
