Q: Countdown directive built using Angular. Would promises & requestAnimationFrame be helpful?

EchoLogicI've built a countdown directive for a website I'm working on, and it actually functions just fine. It simply parses a given date, splits the total time remaining until that date up into Day, Hour, Minute, & Second components places them into the DOM, and then increments down until 0 is reached. ...

Howdy, @Phrancis.
How's it going?
I just implemented a class for Tempo and Meter, and earlier made one for controlling the pitch of an oscillator :)
Not bad, pesky cold in my head, though.
Sounds interesting, something for a music program?
Ah, that virus get to you eh?
Kinda, just getting accustomed to ChucK audio programming
So, now I can do this inside a script instead of having to manually calculate the durations and stuff
TempoMeter tempoMeter;
tempoMeter.setTempo(240) => dur beat;
tempoMeter.setMeter(4,4) => dur measure;
I need to fix a SQL-defined trigger tomorrow, and submit a couple papers. I'm off for bed.

Looking at it again I guess it's not actually clear. I think seeing both versions of the post coloured my perception a bit.

A: Check if JavaScript input is empty?

user5325596I don't have enough reputation to post this as a comment. One edge case you're missing is how to handle null. isEmpty(null) will fail because Object.getOwnPropertyNames(null) will throw TypeError: can't convert null to object.

11:19
@SimonForsberg - the site currently has clear, well-published, often-repeated instructions given to people to follow for "follow on" questions. Either those instructions are wrong, or (much of) the community (and moderators) are now ignoring them. That's the way I see it.
I find it "shocking" that this answer is hammered by the community:

A: Is code ever clean enough? - Can there be too many follow-up questions?

MaroloccioWhy would a user direct his attention to an earlier rev of a question when that was marked "closed" and linked to an open "follow-up"? Either desist in chasing the update links and choose another question or look at the latest to add there... Honestly I was told to close and re-open, it wasn't m...

^^^ That is exactly what the site procedure advovcates, for the same reasons, and processes.
Also, in real life, the code review process cycles until it is checked as "good enough" to be committed.
If the code takes a hundred cycles to get there, then that's OK.
Remonking
Forgive me if this is late to jump in and ask questions, but is the main reason people were bothered by the 5 questions that they were clogging up feeds or an ideological issue with the OP repeatedly asking for advice but not necessarily taking it at all to heart?
Nope, on the contrary, the OP was engaged with the site, applied all the recommended changes, came back looking for more. Enthusiastic, polite, learning, engaged, etc.
He even followed all the meta-instructions. He posted his revised code as an answer to the first question, got told to post a follow-on, so he deleted the answer, posted it as a new question, and went from there.
Perhaps we are not made for a review cycle that is that quick
Nope, just some people, who were not even answerers, got antsy about something, and decided to empty the sails of a new user, and take away the fun of the others.
The people actually engaged with the user managed to do just fine.
11:30
I mean, I can see why it feels wrong and exploitative. It does smell of help vampire behaviour. But if they were earnestly engaged then let the system handle it. If there's too many questions it'll be too many because people are too fatigued to answer/upvote them all.
@SimonForsberg IMO the sentence about DRY should be added to the What you may may not do link.
@rolfl Yes, that's ok. 100 cycles in 20 days would be too much to ask from a bunch of random strangers on the internet though.
And that's what he was heading towards with this speed.
I didn't downvote though.
I did upvote @Mat'sMug comment below it.

12:13
@SimonForsberg I'm still of the opinion that this should not have been a problem in the first place.
Namely that, so long as the OP keeps getting answers, and keeps improving their code with each follow-on, nothing else should matter
2
if they can get a useful answer every hour, and they can incorporate the advice into improving their code in the same time frame, then I'm happy for them to keep going until they or their reviewers run out of steam.
I am of the opinion that there is such a thing as too much, though. If an OP was asking for follow-ups within an hour (i.e, less time than it takes to actually write a review) of receiving an answer to the old question, I would argue that he simply isn't making his question comprehensive enough
I have no issues with many reviews from teh same user, but if they're in such a timespan that there's no way the OP could have taken in all of the answers and then changed his code to suit instead of simply copy/paste then I think the OP is maybe misusing the site
Basically,
> Put more effort into your question - If you post the same, or very similar, pure-english description in your question over and over again, it will get repetitive. The more follow-ups you make, the more effort you could put into the questions. Find better ways to present what your code is doing. Don't just repeat yourself.
Zak
Zak
I don't disagree with you, but I feel that, here at least, the OP did include the advice they were given, and kept posting follow-ups in good faith. And (specifically in this case), I completely disagree with the reaction and actions they received.
Oh, sure. I haven't read the actual subject matter, I've just read Simon's commentary.
I think there's something bigger at stake. There's plenty of good questions around which take forever to get reviewed and this guy runs off with at least 5 in a day.
There's certainly an issue of visibility
As Mat said, only so many posts can be on the front page at any given time

@rolfl The instructions are not wrong, and the community and moderators are not ignoring them. Everything happened as it was supposed to, follow-ups were made and answers were given. However, as more questions were posted, the community apparently wasn't satisfied with the quality of the questions. Note that no question was closed, no question was deleted. What happenes was that the community started down-voting.

Q: what is the Coding Standard for writing condiiton in LINQ ONION Architecture (repository providers)

MUHAMMAD MUBUSHER ASLAMI want to know the standard way of condition in LINQ, I am using Onion Architecture (dbcontext, providers, repository). I have below repository and providers, please check the below cases. Case 1: public class TestRepository { public IEnumerable<xyz> GetListFromDatabase(Expression<Func<xyz,...

Ehh...I'm not convinced they are dupes, even if they are eerily similar.
@Mast Op-onions? :D

I think all the DV's speak for themselves.
That said, I don't think they are good fits for CR.
Though not strongly enough to CV them.
The one with -4 is broken.
The one with -3 is example.
Even if they weren't duplicates, they are both off-topic.
This question, however, is completely on-topic for codereview.stackexchange.com. — Mark Thomas just now
@ARedHerring The first re-open vote on that one is in, I guess somebody disagreed.

Q: Multi-linear regression with trivial model refinement algorithms

lvcI wrote this code for an assignment. It was originally meant to be written in Maple, but got very frustrated with some of Maple's idiosyncrasies that I decided to play around with Pandas instead. This is a very trivial multi-linear regression model, which calculates variable weights using least-s...

@MartinBarker what is the point of object name in solution? clearly his problem is to get that working not to comply with standards. I think you didnt get the point that its not about code review and standards its about solution. — NightsWatch 21 secs ago
if your code is working and youre seeking improvements etc consider asking your question at codereviewMeehow 57 secs ago
@Mast My comment refers to original post - not edited
The update makes it better, but I'll let the rest handle it.

@TopinFrassi that's a really bad pun. Have a star :)
@Zak Some people are good with mathematics or physics, I'm good at bad puns. It's something

@TopinFrassi That should be "and/or". Usually "and".

Q: "Angry Professor" Python implementation

CodeYogiProblem Statement The professor is conducting a course on Discrete Mathematics to a class of N students. He is angry at the lack of their discipline, and he decides to cancel the class if there are fewer than K students present after the class starts. Given the arrival time of each stude...

Q: Manual sorting of database output

MichasI have a small (few elements) list of primary keys, sorted by hand. For example $ids = [15, 75, 54, 13]; The SQL command is simple. SELECT id, value, type FROM a_table WHERE id IN (15, 75, 45, 13); This is SQL, so the order of output may be random. I want to restore it in PHP. My first att...

Q: How to write clean code, tips and tricks

Alexandru MituI am a new .NET/C# developer and one issue bugs me ever since I've wrote code the first time. "How can I write this better?" So here I am, asking you for tips and tricks, references, links, whatever that could help me learn. I will provide you guys with my code. class BankDetails : IBankDetails ...

@CaptainObvious Apart from the title, I think this question is quite good for a first one
@Mat'sMug I was about to write that comment!
Does anybody understand what account.Sum -= c(account.Sum); is ? (The banking question)
15:24
@Heslacher looks like a missing function
I guess OP didn't provide the c method, otherwise there's something wrong/weird
He uses it a few times, so it mustb e missing
Thats my thought too
@CaptainObvious Nicely split-up code, very easy to the eyes.

We're aware of the @CloudFlare issues and are disabling them now.
@StackExchange Disabling the issues?

@Duga Several invalidations, too.
@Jamal it's only additions though, from what I can see..
@Vogel612 no, op updates code based on answers
How do I rollback multiple edits at once? here -> codereview.stackexchange.com/posts/106631/revisions the OP modified the question with new code many (3-4?) times.
16:13
Roll back to revision 4
I have rolled it back
ugh. the annoying thing with Rubberduck earning visibility, is that now when you try to google VBE issues instead of finding relevant Stack Overflow posts (if any) you find posts on Code Review, and Rubberduck issues on GitHub...

Hehe.
Nobody mentioned that "CalculateIBAN" is a bad classname but a good method name.
@Mat'sMug Sounds like Roslyn bugs.
So glad EF6 added enum support.
16:17
@Heslacher I can add that.
do it
TTGH see you
@Mat'sMug you can exclude sites, you know?
See you.
@Vogel612 didn't think of that
bla bla -site:codereview.stackexchange.com -site:github.com
also two bosses at once, when both can spew fire is just a royal pain

@Mat'sMug The costs of being famous.
The c method discussed above is defined here:
BankAccount.Comision c = Comission.Comision;

Q: Generate a URL, shorten it, insert it in a tex file and compile those tex files

springloadedI have written a NodeJS module and its tests to generate a URL, shorten it with Bitly, insert the short link in a tex file, compile these tex files to PDF and then merge them into one. The code is working but it looks confusing and the tests are too hard to follow in my opinion. I'm not sure if...

@Hosch250 op hay clarified in the comments
@Heslacher Ah, I guess I missed that.
Btw you could mention that float.parse will throw if a char is entered and better use tryparse
16:34
Yeah, I don't know why I didn't, I thought of that when I started...
I need a mere 36 more answers to get a silver C# badge.
@Hosch250 with 30 minutes per answer, you can get there in 18 hours if you start now!
LOL. Got school to do.
Trouble is, I'd rep cap.
I need 172 upvotes as well.
