Generalist badge, and your progression
Generalist is a badge that is awarded if you have a score of 15 for at least 20 of the top 40 tags on the site.

The top-40 tags are ranked by counting the number of not-closed questions that have that tag.
There needs to be more than 200 que...
@Jamal bumping old posts... that awkward moment when you read an answer, notice you haven't voted on it, and think "wow, that's getting my upvote" ...and then get a message saying "you can't vote on your own post"...
> If your score is less than 15, there will be an exclamation mark in the right-most column. If you have no exclamation mark in your top 20 tags (ranked in the ID column), then you are a Generalist!

I haven't gone into details for it yet but I thought I kinda trap all the bells and whistles in the helper class. But if it's going to be simple I will roll the wheel and enjoy
the class you want to xml-serialize has to have public members (properties) - it's the public stuff that gets serialized. you can use [XmlIgnore] attributes for stuff you don't want serialized.
and it'll need public setters if you need it de-serializable
you give the XmlSerializer.Serialize method a stream, or a TextWriter, or an XmlWriter, along with the object you want to serialize - the serializer writes it to the stream you give it
This is exactly what I was trying to do. So I learned from this, that we don't actually serialize using XmlSerializer() but we just let .Net know that we want it
Challenge: Design a cash register program
Specifications: Your register currently has the following bills/coins within it:
'PENNY': .01,
'NICKEL': .05,
'DIME': .10,
'QUARTER': .25,
'HALF DOLLAR': .50,
'ONE': 1.00,
'TWO': 2.00,

it was first closed as off-topic /broken code, then edited + reopened, and now there's a comment thread that I'm going to flag as obsolete ;)

actually, the mess is because originally OP stated it wasn't working as intended, and the edit that ended up reopning it changed nothing of the code. I reviewed it assuming it works as intended.
haven't copied it to my IDE. It looks like it might work. If OP says he's got working tests and that the code works as intended, ...we aren't asking more of anyone else, why would we pick on this one?
Welcome to The 2nd Monitor @Shortstuff81000! I believe you'll need 20 points on Code Review to chat here - have you created your CR account yet? You know you wanna! :)
besides, if OP hadn't mentioned issues in the original-original post, would anyone have cast a close vote?
For a game implementation, I have a very large overview map with multiple layers (namely base-map / units / highlight & info / fov-shading) of which the first is CPU-intensive to generate. I have implemented a caching mechanism in which the base layer is drawn once and held in system memory, the...

I'm creating an event loop for an asynchronous event execution library for PHP in PHP. Note that this is for a library and not an application. My event loop is just that -- a simple event loop that doesn't know how to poll / wait for anything specific. It just executes callbacks in order.

vbscript grammar ain't going to cut it. I'll stick to ANTLR for now...
I mean, the ANTLR grammar I have for VB6 is much closer to actual VBA grammar than this GoldParser grammar for VBScript. Note taken though, keeping a mental note that there are alternatives out there ;)
Also, I can see why you rejected the one Multi-threading edit - I just did that to make all the "Multithreading"s into "Multi-threading" so it would be consistent.
I agree that .net in itself, as a framework, isn't built for Windows. Microsoft's implementation (the CLR) is, but there are other implementations around

The Challenges:
There are many SKUs, (around 50,000) which I'm trying to match to around the same number of image files.
SKUs contain characters that are not legal in filenames, which must be stripped or replaced.
The files we're trying to match to each SKU live on an NFS, so reads are slow.
We...
AnimalImage is in another table called Animals. The inline SQL is joining the Animals and Genes tables with the Creatures Combos table in order to display images. The Creature Combos table is made up of foreign keys, so I had to type in animal and gene info only once. :-)
Here are my reasons why I think this wouldn't work as you suggest:

SELECT *
FROM [CreatureCombos]
INNER JOIN [Animals] AS Animal1 ON [CreatureCombos].[NewCreatureID] = Animal1.[AnimalId]
INNER JOIN [Animals] AS Animal2 ON [CreatureCombos].[ComboAnimalID] = Animal2.[AnimalId]
INNER JOIN [Genes] ON [CreatureCombos].[ComboGeneID] = [Genes].[GeneId];
that selects every field of every table
but it looks like you only need AnimalImage and GeneImg
I'd stick that query in SSMS and see what I get
and replace * with only the fields that are actually needed
@Shortstuff81000 you have 2 joins on Animals, so with SELECT * you're getting every field from Animals twice - not sure how Bind("AnimalImage") determines which one to take
@Phrancis I'm not entirely sure how I should do this anymore. I tried selecting only the records I needed and got a "DataBinding: 'System.Data.DataRowView' does not contain a property with the name 'AnimalImage'." error. :-(
basically, you're binding on an AnimalImage field, but your result set has two of such fields - it somehow goes through, just not with the results you'd expect
(I'm assuming the query does what it's supposed to be doing though)
@Shortstuff81000 when you get that code to work as intended, it would be awesome if you could post it on Code Review! (all of it, not just that SO-friendly snippet)
@Shortstuff81000 the SqlDataSource may be silently renaming the 2nd AnimalImage field to something like AnimalImage1 or AnimalImage_1 - I don't know enough about it to be sure, but I'm sure you get rid of that issue with explicit column selections - ping me if it works, I'm going offline :)
