RELOAD
I have to a lot of recent answers that you could all chuck some votes at ;)

I have added a bit to this, but I'm sure you've voted for it already.

A: Credit card verification: string conversion most optimal?

JamalThe other answers offer great advice, but I have some things to add pertaining to naming: This doesn't sound like a good input prompt: printf("Give me a number: \n"); Imagine, for a second, that the user briefly forgot what this program is for. If they see this prompt, they'll just input an...

@Jamal Usually I vote on whatever you post here

Likewise. :-) Like me, you also like to go after the standards. I'm also learning a bit of C from your answers.

Unfortunately, they are starting to get very repetitive. I think that is why my most recent answers are starting to receive fewer votes.

Same here. Some of my earlier ones received the most votes.

Hi guys!

You've earned the "Nice Answer" badge for First Time HTML5/CSS Site.
@Mat'sMug what's up?

Hey all.
Grats Malachi

@rolfl thanks

heya

12:36 AM
Hey @Malachi and @Mat'sMug and @Yuushi

wife's b-day yesterday, went with the in-laws see a humorist that they liked.. was somewhat nice. then we went to some sugar-shack but one that grew cherries, not maples. kids loved it.

@Mat'sMug How's our favorite mug today?

:)

I kinda prefer my green mug (which is my favorite color) for drinking tea and coffee...

I upvoted this comment, but at the same time I'm strongly compelled to add something along the lines of "we're not a forum!"
This forum is for you to post working complete code. To ask for help, you might want to post this on stackoverflow.com. — Mitchell Lee 59 mins ago
@Jamal I'll pretend I didn't read this.

12:40 AM
Okay. :-)

@Mat'sMug I'd upvote that

But, does my green mug know how to code? Nope!

yeah, take that, green mug!
@rolfl @200 codesparkle says hi!

A: Please welcome your new moderators!

codesparkleCongratulations to rolfl and 200_success! I am sticking around as a regular visitor of the site and I hope to contri...

has the description for [badge:constable] changed recently, or I misread it when I posted this?
Hopefully they both will "upgrade" from "pro tem" to "elected" before they earn [badge:constable]! — Mat's Mug 2 days ago
it now says "...or through the site's graduation" which I could have sworn wasn't there before

How recently do you consider recently?

12:49 AM
it wasn't changed, huh?

It has said that since at least last July:

oh well

(Nothing to see here. move along)
Actually, that witty comment doesn't read the way I thought...
Meh, the 'posessiveness' of your name makes me want to pun that your wife's the mug, but that makes no sense either.... it would mean your wife is Mat.
Hence you are @Mat'sMug
but, this is just way complicated and convoluted. Maybe I will go watch a Firefly.

lol
don't. smoke. bananas.

@MitchellLee This isn't really a forum, this is a Q&A site. A forum is open to extended discussion and peoples opinions, where as a Q&A is questions being asked and can be answered with pithy answers. — syb0rg 9 secs ago

I saw that ... ;-)
But I expect that from you....

It's a combination from all stackexchange sites

I wouldn't call 141K just "high" ;)

The difference is that it was not long ago when it was 6K.

1:02 AM
@rolfl Can't mods still see removed messages?

@syb0rg everybody can

@Mat'sMug - mods and room owners can.
and everyone who saw it before it was removed.

wait there's no [history] link otherwise?

Nope.
I don't believe so.
But, I can't check very easily now.

Someday, Jon Skeet's is gonna be over 1M. @_@

Awkward.

wow I've been using my room owner powers all along, without even knowing!
@rolfl about the "off-topic" one, I'm skipping. I just feel like commenting along the lines of "Select the line wiht the duplicate instruction, press [Delete] or [Backspace]. Done." ...but I won't.

@Jamal You will be the 7th!

@Mat'sMug I am not certain it is as off-topic as I first thought.... hmmm
@Mat'sMug you should have considered your weekend 'off' before racing @SimonAndréForsberg to 10K.
You are losing 'big' at the moment.

I know, I started the "race" like 500pts behind

@rolfl what do you get with @java? (hint: "Looking for code review, optimizations and best practices.")

Nope...

hey I saw @syb0rg put the bot on GitHub this weekend, that's some great news!

@Mat'sMug Now you should learn Ruby so you can help me make it better!

Actually I was thinking of looking at the requests the bot makes so I could write one in C# :)

1:29 AM
@rolfl I think your cache is F'd ;)

Nope, it's all good.

Okay, I just updated the Github code so that it represents the current version @rob0t is running.

any new features?

A few changes were made from the review. If CTRL-C is pressed, it sends a message saying that it is going offline, and I tried to implement websockets, but failed.

Simon has some experience with those now.

1:39 AM
@rolfl Websockets?

Yes, I believe he incorporated them as part of his TTTU.
Mar 1 at 20:50, by Simon André Forsberg
@rolfl I'm working on integrating both regular sockets and websockets into the same Java application. I just managed to setup a proper connection with websockets. Damn that was a pain. I'm hoping to add some multiplayer support to my UTTT implementation - and also provide a server for others to connect to.

yeah I saw him post "it works!" with a screenshot of two browsers playing UTTT
that was Friday IIRC

@200_success, @Jamal, @rolfl: I've got a flag on a question ("somebody's comment is obsolete now") and a response recently: "helpful - Next time, please use the comment flags if individual comments should be removed. " - I couldn't do that, I've upvoted it as it was helpful, then the post was edited. (meta.stackoverflow.com/a/167759/169573)

@Jamal I hope so

@palacsint Yes, that was me. I should've known you would already know that, but I also didn't think of that. Sorry!

@Jamal No problem at all

I would've cleared it as helpful anyway (not a bad comment to remove). It is nice that mods can now leave feedback on helpful flags.
There was also one flag I was meaning to talk to you about, but I didn't want to mention it here right away since it's only seen by mods.

Q: Template vector struct in C11

MorwennThis one review will be a little bit tricky: I was trying to implement a template Vector struct in C11. 4:15 AM
It's certainly less verbose than JavaScript.
To run it in a browser, though, you'd have to use a CoffeeScript-to-JS shim.

@Jamal I suppose it's a cute idea, but I don't have much to say to it other than "bleh"

That negates a lot of the advantages, though. Besides the overhead, the compilation makes debugging harder.

I too can't find anything to say about it. Perhaps William Morris will come back and knock it out.

I'm not a fan of trying to make C into C++

@Yuushi I'm okay with C, but when I saw new in there... wow.

I have a Sprite class, which has an Animation property. Sprite has an Animate method, which calls Animate.GetNextFrame(). Problem is, GetNextFrame() only returns a new frame if a certain time interval has elapsed (100 ms). So, should I expose a method called Animate.IsReady() or something?
Because right now GetNextFrame() checks this interval against an internal timer, and returns the current frame if it hasn't elapsed... so it's more like GetCurrentFrameOrNextFrameIfReady()
Which is crappy
Also, I don't like the idea of setting the current frame to the same value over and over. So I think I need some kind of IsReady method.
Oops, ah, Animate.GetNextFrame() should be Animation.GetNextFrame(), Animate.IsReady() should be Animation.IsReady()
I think I just answered my own question, just needed to voice it out loud. Thanks a lot guys.

12:38 PM
morning

It is ;-)
(where I am anyway).
Hey Morwenn

It's always morning here anyway :p

1:04 PM
Damn, this isn't easy making in a clean way...
Monkfternoon btw, @Morwenn

@SimonAndréForsberg I've no idea what you're talking about, and it therefore sounds disturbing.

I'm working on an advanced version of the current challenge

Will there be cats?

lol, there might be. I can add a cat just for you :P

Would that be the lol.cat?

Urgh, I won't be able to stand the fact that a card game of mine wouldn't be as good as MTG.

What I'm making here is a bit like MTG, but quite far from it. Making MTG would be very difficult I think.
I have started making MTG in Java earlier (months ago), I managed to play a simple 1/1 creature and tap/untap lands, but I didn't do any attacking.

Well, at least, MTG has a good wording that makes it codable. But it's awfully complicated. I wouldn't know how to cleanly handle priority.
At least, how not to make it painful for the user.

Indeed.
It's codeable, but if you want all the functionality it's... complicated :)

It's looonnnnng.
On its behalf, the game having named effects, it helps to DRY.

@SimonAndréForsberg - 50-rep so far today, which gives you a head-room of 150, and, add an accept, or 2 to that, and you have another 180 rep today.... add that to your 9612, you get 9792, which is just 208 short of 10K.... which you can do tomorrow. if you are lucky, by this time tomorrow you could be 10K.... !
(and Mat's Mug could be eating your dust!)

I'm planning to reach 10K on Wednesday at the latest

I'm kinda bashed by the thought of: "I want to be 10k by the day after tomorrow"....
though the voting here on CR is heavy.

@Vogel612 - CR voting is heavy..... I was the target of much of that... and I appreciate it, but, it really is not that hard... it boils down to eyes-on-posts....

However, only 13 people voted today.

If you have a post that adds value, you get upvoted. If you are in chat, you get more.
Unlike other sites, where people look at a post and use their voting to 'adjust' the ranking of answers (they won't upvote a high-vote answer if they prefer a lower-vote answer).
I get the impression that napalm-style voting is common on CR, but rare on other sites.
That is the real difference.

1:28 PM
That's kind of true.
Well, PPCG also gets some kind of napalm voting.

It means you can be second-in-line, and still get votes. It means you can address smaller components of a problem, and, if it adds value, it gets upvoted. even if there is a more comprehensdive, but not quite complete answer.
Anyway, I have a tea data... gotta go.

Erhm... I actually think that I might have avoided up-voting some higher-voted answers around here because I preferred a lower-vote answer...
Often though, I vote on anything and everything.

Q: Is it in bad form to use "Model" as a model class suffix?

Rich CI have the following setup but I'm worried that using Manager and Model as a suffix might be frowned upon to other developers. I, personally, like it because it makes everything clear, visually, when working with the code as to what is what and also easily prevents naming conflicts when referenc...

And I gotta say that I love TDD. I have 17 tests, 13 of them succeed and 4 fail. As long as I have failing tests, it is easy to know what I should do next. And when all my tests succeed, then I just add more.
If I lose focus some time, I just run the tests and see which ones fail.
