6:00 PM
@Hosch250 Common Gateway Interface.

ugh. ChatSEy won't load any chatroom... I can't phone-chat anymore! :'(

@Hosch250 come to SQL room

Did you checked your internet connection?

yes, browser works.. chat won't load from browser either :/

Then it is a problem with their load balancers

6:04 PM
I don't see how.. it loads fine from desktop browser

Is the phone using the same network?

no

Then that explains it

me+networks=foobar

I'm taking a network class.

6:06 PM
I understand a bit about networks
I had a few, a few years ago

It is interesting, but we mostly covered the protocols used in the Internet, so I don't know about this problem.
I'm taking another this spring.

I don' have money for those things

Bother. I'm supposed to write a 3-4 paragraph essay. I wrote a 5 paragraph essay.

Just say that that one is for free

You might find some on Coursera, if you have the time.

6:09 PM
I don't take online classes seriously, specially when it says "free courses".

@Zak Nothing weird to see there

They are offered from the top colleges around the world.
Harvard, Yale, MIT, Oxford...

Nobody gives something for free
There are no free lunches

But actually, if you looked around, you could find some network books and just read them.

That would be better

6:11 PM
The busywork is optional if you really understand the book, and you could probably get them from the library.

Online library?

Maybe. Try OpenLibrary.
WorldCat, maybe.
Does Portugal have public libraries? I would assume so, but you never can tell.

We do have, but they are really outdated
The only thing they update are the magazines

Can you get interlibrary loan?

No idea what's that

6:13 PM
Over here, we can get interlibrary loan from the U's libraries.
Where you request it from your library, and they get it from another library that has it.

Nope, we don't have that

We used to be able to get it from around the country, but they changed it, last I heard, so we could only get it if it was in MN.

Each library belongs to a "município" (I have no idea about the name in English)

Municipality.

That
And they don't communicate with eachothers
If you go to 5 different libraries, you need 5 different cards to take books

6:15 PM
Our libraries belong to the county, but each county has several (well, in the cities), and they are all part of a single network - MNLink in MN.

Q: C++ Double Buffering Gdiplus and GDI

Evan CarslakeI have this working code. I was wondering how I can optimize it. Really, I think I need to. bmScreenBuffer is a global Bitmap Is there anything I can declare globally so it does not need to be be created over and over, this function is called around 30 times a second. Contents of drawScreen()...

That sounds a more efficient way of working

You need different cards to pick up the book from a different library, but you can get interlibrary loan and pick up from a single library.

@IsmaelMiguel You'd be surprised.

@Mast I've heard people beat up their enemies for free.

6:17 PM
I'm currently following a free HTML/CSS/Bootstrap/jQuery course to get rid of my lack of web knowledge.
@Hosch250 Wow. That's powerful.

@IsmaelMiguel LOL

"Does it make sense?" "Brainfuck" pick one — Dan Pantry Nov 29 at 0:18
haha

> Does it make sense? (Considering it's Brainfuck, it shouldn't make sense...)

@Mat'sMug BTW, comments are extremely difficult in Whitespace because any whitespace character is counted as source code.
So, spaces or linebreaks in the comments break the code.

6:19 PM
@DanPantry Australian dev confirmed

This_is_why_snake_case_was_created_for_then!

You've got to be kidding me... ... .... ......... ...........
mapPropertySource.source does not give the right value, but mapPropertySource.getSource() does

@skiwi I'm not Australian, but this is definitely how I program. Thank god Javascript mangles names and removes comments so I can get away with it :D

Remember that in Groovy if there's a getSource() method, you can always use source directory as get-operation
Well, appereantly not
@DanPantry Well, there's a "Cunt" in there

@skiwi What's your point. We welsh share a sacred bond with the aussies

6:21 PM
How can this bug even happen... ... = source is a synthetic accessor for getSource()
@DanPantry Oh wait, it's not Australia only right

Groan Paranormal site coming up.
@DanPantry In that the Welsh are descended from a bunch of criminals?

Paranormal.SE?

Yeah. One creepy place. It'll be worse than the Holocaust deniers on Skeptics.

@Hosch250 Well, I would argue a good portion of aussies can trace their lineage to welsh people. That's probably how they learnt how to swear. :D

BLECH

6:23 PM
@Phrancis WeirdS***ThatHappensInMyHouse.SE

Example questions are whether ghosts have genders, how to perform exorcisms, &c.

Truth to be told, I sometimes found an answer via google if I started adding swear words in

@Phrancis What, that site is actually going through?

> ghosts have genders

I have a friend who's into "ghost hunting".

6:24 PM
did you mean paranormal.tumblr.com

@Mast It is getting closer.

I never thought they'd get enough followers.

(not a real site, I don't think, but that sounds like something that would come from tumblr..)

> 0 more followers
36 more questions with a score of 10 or more

oh god, I only have 10mb of disc space left on my boot partition lol

6:25 PM
@DanPantry that used to be a lot

@DanPantry Reddit has 3: /r/Paranormal, /r/paranormal_equipment and /r/theparanormalroom
Don't ask me what's in them.

@Mat'sMug Yeah, but elementary os wants 80mb for new upgrades.

Reddit is paranormal

@Mat'sMug Yea, that's more than a floppy disk.

I think I'm going to switch over to ubuntu 15 (if there's a LTS version), elementaryos' terminal is super weird and does not work very well

6:26 PM
OMG IT WORKS

busy Friday night here :-)
@DanLyons did they try turning it off and back on again?
That's the important step, you can't skip that one
christ, I cut my finger on my computer fan gaain

@DanPantry Sound advice: Stop putting fingers into computer fan!!!

@StackExchange is being v slow at the moment, so: commitstrip.com/en/2015/12/04/the-perfect-domain

Put a switch on the fan with a case.

6:30 PM
switch(fan) {
  case ???:

}
instructions unclear

@DanPantry Sounds familiar, I'm trying to find a domain name for OLog, but the most interesting one is already taken by some random church, and some other one is on sale for $2000 :|

The switch turns the fan on and off. The case keeps your fingers out of the fan's way.

@skiwi http://olog.cat is avaliable ;-)

@DanPantry Is that a new tld?

@skiwi yes
unfortunately olo.gg isn't

6:33 PM
yolo.gg

perfect tld for cat DNS

@holroy My music is hurting my ears. Sound advice: turn the volume down.

yolo.gg is actually available lol (for 50 euro/pa)

@skiwi Damn that's epic

@Mast I'm literally thinking about that right now

@skiwi sounds like a crap thing to think about
*finger guns*

6:36 PM
Man, I think yolo.gg is a good buy.

ayyyyyyy
@EBrown Go for it, if you want to pay 50 euro a year
It's a bit rich for my blood

Ah, didn't look up prices.

lol, I was just about to start installing ubuntu before remembering that if I do that I will be unable to access any of my passwords on dropbox
Why? Because the password for my dropbox is in the encrypted archive on my dropbox.
I am not a smart man.

Poor @DanPantry.
At least you haven't (yet) deleted your entire projects directory.

Its like locking my keys inside of my car

6:38 PM
@DanPantry Smash the window.

@Mast I think keepass2 might find that vaguely disagreeable.

Which is another reason I don't use password keepers. Paperwork in a vault FTW.

I'm so excited that I got this stuff to work, that I forgot to commit it
I'm not a smart man, but at least smarter than @DanPantry
2

@Mast Until you forget the vault combo.

@skiwi don't act proud. that's not a high barrier to cross

6:41 PM
@EBrown It has a key.

The whole idea is that I don't keep my digital passwords on digital storage. That's about as safe as it gets.

@Mast Until you forget the vault combo. lose the key.

There you go, no more stars

@EBrown Which is why my wife has one too.

6:42 PM
@Mast your wife is like backup storage?

@Mast Until you forget the vault combo. lose the key. both lose your keys.

@EBrown this kills the marriage

@DanPantry Back-up two-factor authorisation.

I just shot 2 zombies, but they're still crawling

@Mat'sMug shoot the legs

meh

@Mat'sMug That one has a lot of code.

@EBrown yeah. I merely scratched the surface, lunch is almost over :/

Time to finish reading C# In Depth.

Q: Creating a pseudo Pivot Table / Database using a 4-D array

ZakWhy am I not just using a Pivot Table / Database? a) I've never ever used either before. And I don't have time to learn how before this project needs to actually be finished. b) The final output is going to be a report for the Company Directors. As such, the flexibility of choosing which bit...

^^ one vote short

I'm still too excited to actually continue working now that my code is working

I'm kinda proud of my answer too, if someone feels like making me cap today
can't wait for @Hosch250's follow-up

Me either.

thanks @Santa!

7:03 PM
Hope it doesn't get reversed. It is just 3 though, and I upvoted everybody else too, except one.

I think it's time to reformat my PC, there's MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL and Redis on it

LOL.

@skiwi Oh my

@skiwi but you can still put Access, DB2, Oracle, and MariaDB on it

@DanLyons I've got MariaDB too!

7:09 PM
but if you somehow get MUMPS put on it, then it's time to kill it with fire

I've got Access and SQL Server.

@syb0rg It's hard on friday's afternoon!

Hmm, I don't remember hwo PostgreSQL worked, but I see a duga account on it ^^

I don't know how to use Access, though.

@skiwi I had that problem too. Now I got nothing to do with SQL on my computer. Makes me happy.. :p

7:11 PM

7:21 PM
@DanLyons It isn't MUMPS nowadays its called cachè

Makes bad pun about mumps being nasty

@skiwi Duga logs data to Postgres AFAIK

@TopinFrassi Yeah! And I won't be getting much sleep tonight

First I'm going to Bentleyville, then I'm hanging out with a bunch of my friends and who knows what time I'll get home

7:25 PM
Am I incorrect in stating that this code is broken?
1
Q: Retrying a web request in Python

NishantIs it fine to retry a web service call like this in Python? Would there be any scenarios the exception might not work the way we expect it? I expect it to continue only if it's fine, otherwise just retry, and if that doesn't work, just throw the error out. def getblob(html): num_of_retries =...

That is, that it never could have gotten anything from server.com?requestId=xlkjsdfs, since it asks for urlopen on server.comrequestId=xlkjsdfs...

Q: Determine the winner of a coin flip game

cody.codesWhile I was writing this I had some thoughts and questions going through my head about if I was doing this in a good manner. For instance, is it good to use a StringTokenizer to loop through the words in the line I copied from the Scanner's input? Thank you for the feedback! Write a method named...

Now he has changed the code again... Added a missing '?'

Yay, [badge:revival] :)

@Mat'sMug, Could you review the comments and editind done on the "Retryting a web request in Python" question above here?
There has been two minor, but crucial edits on it. 1) Changed a req to request in urlopen(req), and now 2) OP has added ? to end of service.com. The code doesn't seem to be what he originally has used. Am I just to picky, and should we let it slip, or how should we handle it.
Both responses given are still using service.com(as in original post), but then again the req has been changed to request by 200_success.

I don't mind the url edit, it's just literal data likely to be redacted anyway
but it looks very much like he's asking for help fixing his HTTP 200+incomplete-blob and HTTP 500 errors

7:38 PM
So I suspect none of the answers has tried running the code, and the original code hasn't runned with successful response as it stood.
Those HTTP200/HTTP500 has been added in latest revision

meh, not a great post, bordering broken code, but too much gray for a hammer.

@Duga yeah yeah

What do you suggest as a proper action? Should I retract my close votes, and remove my comments? It is kind of out of the gray now, but it has been edited a lot...

I wiped the comments
feel free to leave it in the close queue

7:42 PM
Oh man, I'm in the closures section of C# In Depth.

@EBrown you had your coffee right?

I'm about to.

Monking

it's a section I've bookmarked for re-reading later :)
@DanPantry monking!

@syb0rg Yeah same here. I'm on a tight schedule on weekends :p On christmas break I'll sleep ahah

7:43 PM
@Mat'sMug As it is out of the gray, now, so to speak. I think I'll retract my close vote, and downvote it instead. Thanks for the assistance

no problem :)

@EBrown That's a book I really should get. The thing is, I'm poor and I don't like that much reading eBooks. I prefer real paper, it's easier for the eyes

@TopinFrassi There is a real paper version.

I got the real paper version
my mug is on it

Mine is sitting on my desk.

7:45 PM
in my avatar I meant ;-)

@EBrown I know, but the point one is : I'm poor :p
Electronic versions are way less expensive

heya fellas

hey @janos
Never have I been happier to see Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: org.postgresql.Driver

oh joy...?

I've been trying to get an externalized YAML config file to work in Grails 3.0
Finally had a working application, turns out it merges after the application has been loaded, which in turn meant that the datasource could not be reloaded anymore
So now I finally got a way working ot merge the config files before the application boots

7:51 PM
The more I drink Tim Horton's coffee, the more disappointed I am. #canadianproblems

@Duga @janos The question specifically stated that the input file was not newline-terminated. Edit rolled back.

@TopinFrassi I converted to McCafé a while ago

@Mat'sMug Yeah I heard their "new" coffee was pretty good. The thing is, I drink half-cofee half french vanilla, 'cause I'm not used to coffee yet :p That's not an option at Mc Donalds :(

@200_success aw, I totally didn't get what he was talking about... I see now

@janos /s/walking/talking/

7:56 PM
@skiwi hm, maybe I should leave the computer alone for the day...

You can always help with OLog ^^

are you sure you want me on that in my current condition?

CR Secret Santa is now showing up in the "hot meta posts"

I would probably break your project now

@janos We have unit tests
