Q: Correct file permissions for wordpress

John CrawfordI've had a look over here but didn't find any details on the best file permissions. I also took a look at some of Wordpress's form's questions over here too but anybody that suggests 777 obviously needs a little lesson in security. In short my question is this. What permissions should I have f...

;)
These are the issues which will make every not so tech-savvy wordpress user gringe.
...and probably set up an angry Tumblr. :p
yeah wordpress always seems to have issues with permissions out of the box
but new files having weird permissions had something to do with www-data having a weird umask iirc
(by weird i mean overly restrictive)
Now I have another problem.
I tried the tips from the article I linked to. That broke all the images on the site.^^
Now I can't set the file permissions recursively.
08:16
why not?
chmod -R
Because it told me to set 0644 on all files. When I try to set 0755 on a folder now, it throws permission denied.
I'm doing this in my ftp client.^^
lol
ssh in and do it as root
It wasn't too many directories, so I did it one by one.^^
I just use command line when working with Jekyll/GitHub.
you probably set 644 on a directory by accident
Could be, yes.
Well, gravatar still times out.^^
08:20
it's your own server?
Okay, good. Newly uploaded files are working now.
good :)
No, not even my webspace. Internship. Doing a website for them.
I'm more the HTML/CSS guy.
oh, yeah that's frustrating
i'm used to having root access :)
My personal site runs on GitHub Pages. I'm fine with that. :)
08:22
i've been using amazon's ec2, it's pretty cheap
can set up as many servers as you like, running whatever you like
That's nice. Maybe I do that in the future as well.
For the moment, I need to figure out why some sites are loading forever. Nothing in the console.
But it's again Gravatar. There is one on that page.
hm the chat was unreachable for me for about 15min now
I could not even ping it

who is your provider?
Internet provider you mean? I don't know. Currently in the agency where I have my internship.
Stumbled upon this issue, because the site I'm working on uses gravatars.
08:58
They might have some sites blocked
although it seems unlikely that gravatar is one of them
Nope. It worked like a charm before I deleted my browser cache.
usually it is the other way around :)
but the cache might have masked the issue
