anybody wants to pimp something over there?

A: Class involving functions & if/else if statements

Jamal This is wrong: area = double area (double length, double width); You're returning the value from area(), not declaring it. Just call the function: area = area(double length, double width); Your calculation in area(double radius) is incorrect: area = PI * (radius * 2); That is calculatin...

@janos Not a very good answer really, but heck, getting closer to a badge:

A: Returning the other argument of 2 possible arguments without using conditions

Simon André ForsbergSimple arithmetic: return 7 - input + 5; (which can be simplified as return 12 - input;) Let's say the input is 7: return 7 - 7 + 5 --> return 5 Or if the input is 5: return 7 - 5 + 5 --> return 7

already got you there @SimonAndréForsberg

was afraid for that
how about my response to @Vogel612's question then?

A: Double Brace initialization Type Confusion

Simon André Forsberg It seems that input.getClass() returns ModelConvertersFacadeTests That is not true. Your stacktrace says this is the class: com.example-company.test.unit.util.converters.ModelConvertersFacadeTests$1 Note the $1 at the end. This means that your class is an anonymous (it does not have a ...

Anyone know how in the world I earned Fascinating over on SO?

and I have one close enough, though you might have seen it more than once:

I didn't do anything, except maybe a review.

A: Which is faster: while(1) or while(2)?

janosWait a minute. The interviewer, did he look like this guy? It's bad enough that the interviewer himself has failed this interview, what if other programmers at this company have "passed" this test? No. Evaluating the statements 1 == 0 and 2 == 0 should be equally fast. We could imagine poor c...

A: how to add and print into and from an object array?

Simon André ForsbergIn addition to the if(items[r] != null){ pointed out by others, I believe the continue statement in this code is wrong: for(int r = 0; r < items.length; r++){ if(items[r] != null){ items[r] = new Items(add.getCode(), add.getDescription(), add.getQuantity(), add.getCos...

@janos Hey! I remember having seen that one! Why didn't I vote for it?
@hosch250 The same way you do it everywhere.

Q: Winter Bash 2014 Secret Hats

KevinSo far, I've unlocked one of the secret hats. I'm wondering what other secret hats are out there and how to earn them.

Well, that is real helpful, @SimonAndréForsberg.
That is an A Priori.
The link helped.

10:11 PM
Thanks Simon, with a little luck that could be my easy treasure hunter
btw, I don't know why, I couldn't get Fascinating, Ma'am on CR today. @RubberDuck I see see only you with that

@janos Just keep on pimping it!
@janos I'm out of votes so I will definitely not get it today.

I took Fascinating, Ma'am on SO.

see you all tomorrow

You too!

Question guys, If you could sum up what you on CR do in one sentence what would it be?

Read.

....

@RubberDuck I remembered my A Priori.

10:29 PM
@TheKittyKat Improving existing, working code.

@hosch250 Do you mean (Not Monking)?

@TheKittyKat Yes.

Damn

@janos I don't know the cut off, but I sorted by votes and found a good question with a ton of votes on it. I think it was a Jeff Atwood question.

@janos Congrats on the gold

10:30 PM
I'm trying to use my votes up on SO.

Congratulations on your 4th golden SO badge, @janos!

Nice! Grats!

@anyone @Janos Any rep left on Cooking.SE? I'm getting close to capping for the first time on any SE site ;-)

A: Array of Interfaces in Java

Simon André ForsbergI think the easiest solution is to change one of the methods to: void process(ArrayList<? extends A> myList) { } However, be aware that with this solution the entire list needs to be of the same type. That is, if you would have a class C that also would implement A, you can't mix the items in ...

@Jamal How did your semester go?

(removed the "?tab=summary")

@SimonAndréForsberg Ah. Thanks.
@hosch250 It went pretty well. I'm still waiting for my finals results for my two CS classes.

Good.
I took 2 4.0's, and the rest are uncertain still, depending on how my finals went.
One, I didn't get quite reach the cutoff.

10:40 PM
Oh! I'm 44 rep away from repcap.

I'll get you there if you will protect me from getting in trouble with serial voting.

Q: write to array index from one thread, read from another

LevanThere are two threads, one modifies index variable, another thread test if index was changed does some action. Actually the second thread needs to asses array element by that index. The part of code is performance critical. My question is what whould be better and faster solution to check index...

You shouldn't try serial voting anyway (and I cannot do anything about reversals anyway). Take your time in reading the posts.

OK.

You can always undo some upvotes to be safe.

10:43 PM
I picked nice, short posts (or maybe you just write nice, short posts), so reading wasn't a problem.
Mass Evacuation!!!

That's six within a short time, so it may be reversed.

Just editing a C# post, and Jon Skeet beat me to it!
Drat.

@Jamal Drat, I'm ... so can't help

CR +215
MSE +132
SO +110
^^ This explains why I've felt unproductive today

Too late, votes locked.

10:48 PM
@Jamal I just tried to find something vote-worthy. Found something. Tried to vote. Realized my problem...

Just earned Civic Duty over on SO.

Morning everybody

Hey Mehrad
Auzzies up already?

Is there a flag for Question Shows No Effort By User?
Can't find it.

@Servy: For what it's worth, we don't have a positive only requirement for hats like we do for badges. We've removed hat ideas from previous years that actively harm sites. That's why I'm curious what the problem is. So far I haven't been convinced that there's anything to be concerned with other than regulars noticing something is different today. — Jon Ericson ♦ 27 mins ago
I like Jon Ericson ^^

10:52 PM
@hosch250 That's fine. You can always take it slower after the cap is lifted in an hour.

@hosch250 -1 vote

@Jamal, No, I wasn't banned.

@hosch250 on Code Review? Not really. "effort" is a bit different here. Could you link the question?

@rolfl I just did that.
@SimonAndréForsberg No, on SO.
"I need a PHP script..."

@hosch250 Banned? The system doesn't do that with votes.

10:53 PM
I mean, I just can't undo them.
They weren't reversed or anything.

@rolfl yep. just started work

I didn't hit the cap either.

@hosch250 probably "too broad"

The script won't run until another four hours, I believe.

OK.
Oh well.

8 flags away from 80 on SO.
Helpful flags.

@hosch250 Hmm... you just gave me an idea!

Here we go.....

I like my Uncle Sam hat.
Check my profile out to see it.
Oh, I guess you can see it here when the avatar gets bigger.

@rolfl expecting flags, are you? :)

11:02 PM
There are no active flags ;-)

There are on SO.
Go over there.

Meh, SEP there

9.7K close votes, and what does SEP mean?

Someone Else's Problem

Oh.
I'm looking forward to when I have 3k rep about 10 years from now.
I'll have another gold badge in no time.

11:06 PM
I think, my best chance of a goldie at the moment is to convince the SE folk to graduate CR quickly ;-) I get a gold badge for that...

CR is graduated.
Just not updated.

yes/no

Oh?

OK.

11:08 PM
@rolfl lol, good luck with that :)
@rolfl You could always try "Famous Question"

MORTALI carefully used smart pointer to a void memory leak and dangling pointers. some one says my code has memory leak. is it true? how can i fix it? #include <iostream> #include <initializer_list> #include <memory> using namespace std; using Ptr2D = unique_ptr<unique_ptr<int[]>[]>; using IniList =...

@rolfl Hot question, a bit of twitter, and a bit of reddit or something.

does this title really has a crappy grammer

@SimonAndréForsberg I don't even have 'notable' yet

Send an e-mail (or a hundred) with a link to the question and promise cheap viagra in the e-mail subject!

I need to learn LOLCODE.

Q: Down with FizzBuzz... LOL

Mat's MugThis post is the result of reading through and following the LOLCODE Specification 1.2, and writing and executing my code on compileonline.com. My "hello world" was going to be a fizzbuzz. I like it because it nicely illustrates the basics of a language - variables, operators, looping, condition...

And I should post a C#/WPF (the Ultimate) FizzBuzz program.
That would be interesting.

@hosch250 No, you need to learn Brainfuck!

Q: FizzBuzz in Brainfuck

Simon André ForsbergInspired a bit by a previous Brainfuck question and the recent fizzbuzz invasion, I decided to make FizzBuzz in Brainfuck. The code is entirely my own, except for the inclusion of the Printing a number algorithm that I found on StackOverflow. My code is divided into several parts. Setup Const...

@SimonAndréForsberg I'd probably get kicked out of the house if my parents found that on my computer.

Q: Do you think this is the most efficient way to code mutiples that equal 100?

user983988I'm pretty new to programming and would like your opinion on my following block of code. The Objective: Was to see what numbers can be multiplied to equal 100. Example 1 x 1 = 1 //no match. 5 x 20 = 100 //match PS. the objective (as I'm learning) was only to use an array as I wanted to practice...

I have two votes left! Who needs them? @Phrancis, @RubberDuck, @anyone?

@Me
I should make a DirectX FizzBuzz, but I don't know DirectX.

11:31 PM
Why would you make FizzBuzz in DirectX?

Sliding down the screen :)
One fancy FizzBuzz.

@hosch250 Sounds like that could be done without too much effort with some JavaScript

I'm capped @SimonAndréForsberg

@SimonAndréForsberg Don't know hide or hair of JS.

Let me see what I can find

11:33 PM
I'm using C#/XAML.

@hosch250 but you said you don't know DirectX either...

Exactly.

A: Implementing Substring in C#

Rick DavinAssorted things pop into my head here. What's wrong with using the String.Substring(Int32) method? At first glance, I would tend to think your 2nd method would be faster, but they really aren't the same. If input i is greater than test.Length, the 2nd method will throw an exception but the fir...

I'm not doing DirectX (at least not yet).

What is the safest way of pausing a program for x time in C#?
Is it a try...catch with a sleep?

Now that's a message I don't think I've seen before ^^
3

Me neither.

(Sorry for helping keeping the site clean not having anything better to do, mods)

@SimonAndréForsberg Still no Stars!
2
@hosch250 make it wait for user input

@Malachi Not reasonable - it needs to periodically generate a value.
At a reasonably regular time, without user input.

11:55 PM
@hosch250 probably a sleep. depending on what you are doing you shouldn't need a try catch, but I don't know what you are doing and why you are sleeping
TTGH
TTQW

OK, thanks.

@hosch250 if you want to periodically generate values, use a timer or reactive extensions. if you want to pause, use await Task.Delay(...)

See you.
@mjolka OK, that sounds right.
