Apparently basic AdS has CTCs but not its universal cover

Hmm
What is the cover of AdS

Apparently it's just because the naive method to get AdS makes time basically just a circle
So the universal cover will be $\mathbb{R}$
(when you pretend AdS is embedded in $R^5$ with $ds^2 = -du^2 - dv^2 + dx^2 + dy^2 + dz^2$)
you just unroll the CTCs like a garden hose

12:37 AM
@Slereah sounds like a JD analogy

Do you want a Secret diagram instead

lost my pencil again
@Slereah pls

PLAGIARISM

1:18 AM
Hm
There's a whole thing on the Cauchy problem for spacetimes with CTCs
But I wonder what it is like for spacetimes with naked singularities
I assume the singularity can act as a sink and source, but I wonder what are the details

done with tedious homework
now for the fun pls kill me part
research paper
@Slereah dude, pls give me all the papers
what would be an awesome thing to write my thesis on one day
just send 'em through Skype

Which ones

ctc cauchy problem

Hm
80 MB total for CTCs
Uploading it
I didn't rename all the filenames yet but I'm sure you'll manage
I should make a nice folder and share it with like
/r/timetravel
I'm sure people who enjoy light discussions about fun time travel would love a giant folder of general relativity, topology and real analysis

probably
Woo!
You are peddling woo!

1:27 AM
That I am
The thing JD does not seem to understand though
Is that the importance of studying such things isn't because you believe they are real
But because they show up in the math and it may indicate problems with the theory
I'm sure he will have an indignant response and I am pretty glad to have put him on ignore

I will relegate interesting messages to you.

I should add little warnings in this folder for crazy papers
WARNING : WRITTEN BY RONALD MALLETT

who he

The metric he wrote is actually correct, but his idea of how to put it to experimental test is bananas
There's another dude who wrote a paper about experimental tests for CTCs at the LHC
But he approached it with a much healthier attitude

love how he's in a suit
proper way to dress

1:34 AM
That was, I suspect heavily : "Maybe this happens somehow? Ahah probably not, I just wanted to write a paper"
Sometimes you just want to write a paper!

where are the papers man

jesus
frick
it's a .7z
can't open that on OSX :(

surely you can

user147690
1:51 AM
@Slereah Do you think Ocelot is overly formal?

He doesn't even have a smoking jacket

user147690
Wow really?

He insists on wearing suits, though. That classifies as overly formal by my commie hippie standards.

user147690
He wears suits to university or?

My mental picture of him does. Not sure how often he actually wears them, you'll have to ask him.

1:56 AM

user147690
If someone did that at my university, everyone would call him a fedora haha

I imagine him wearing a ballerina tutu to classes

@Slereah Nice picture of you

user147690
@Ghost I like it

DEBATE TIME
@ACuriousMind spits

1:58 AM
a ballerina tutu with the obligatory pocket protector, labcoat and very thick coke-bottle glasses

@ACuriousMind in one right now
gotta be professional for the debate

@ACuriousMind I wish
That's Christopher Walken
That guy can rock a silk smoking jacket

Do you have suitjamas, @0celo7?
@Ghost I guarantee someone out there is into that

@ACuriousMind like @0celo7?

Hey @ACuriousMind
Do you have
access
wink wink
taps nose

2:07 AM
Meh debates are for the undecideds

elbows

Is...is that you, @KyleKanos?
3
How are you?

@ACuriousMind Where is who?
@ACuriousMind Overworked but paid well enough that I don't mind. You?

@Slereah to what?

@KyleKanos hey

2:08 AM
@0celo7 Hi

Physical Review D

@Slereah skype

@KyleKanos Fine, still studying and not being paid ;) (not exactly overworked either)
@Slereah Nope, I can't access APS Journals off-campus.

Dang
I hope Sci Hub isn't down for too long

@ACuriousMind Well just think: it took me 6 years to get through grad school & get a job...you've got plenty of time to beat me on length ;)

2:11 AM
@ACuriousMind I've got him covered
@KyleKanos I'm undecided.

Aug 18 at 19:00, by 0celo7
everyone says this will be a new era

@KyleKanos ...and you also got a wife and kids along the way. But you're right, I'm not in a rush to get anywhere

How's that 5-4 season working out for you so far?

So, @0celo7 do you go to class wearing all the scientific apparel? (with or without the tutu?)

@ACuriousMind Yes, also correct

2:15 AM
@Ghost My standard outfit is jeans + t-shirt + long sleeve shirt / hoodie
@KyleKanos don't remind me
you're mean

Meanwhile, Clemson be like,
@0celo7 Sorry
One of the other quants on my row graduated from FSU and liked to talk smack about how Clemson sucks & the football playoff committee was crazy for putting Clemson #1

@0celo7 and a pocket protector?

I was rather happy when FSU lost big this past Saturday
I think I may be able to pass Brandon in Late Answers queue & get the gold first

research gate thinks I'm smart

You are smarter than me

2:22 AM
@KyleKanos He got a head start on you today, though ;)

@KyleKanos You serious?
I can't solve quadratic equations

@ACuriousMind I have 118 reviews in that queue this month, he has 28. His 5 for the week to my 22.
@0celo7 Neither can I

now it thinks I'm a German neurosurgeon

...how does one access stats like "X reviews in this month"?

> rectal carcinoma
great paper, I must say
well done me

2:25 AM
How does it even work when a 16 page theory paper has 6 authors

@ACuriousMind Hover your mouse over the gravitar in the \reveiws page
:D

Is it one of those PhD comic thing

Damn these "hidden" features :D

Where they let undergrads do all the work
Oh wait
7 authors

2:26 AM
@ACuriousMind Yeah, that was yet another chance discovery by me. Can't confirm this stuff on Meta.SE b/c I can't access it at work

That's like one author for 2 pages

Sigh...at my current rate in the Suggested Edit queue, I'll get the gold badge in 2-3 months...

holy crap I'm still clicking through R Ungers

I smell a troll; voting to close. — Alfred Centauri 3 hours ago
I got my gold badge for reopens last week

@KyleKanos You'll be happy to know I have not trolled since you left.

2:29 AM
::coughs::
::coughs again::

Well I did see you get a ban of some sort

::falls out of chair, coughing::

@KyleKanos A misunderstanding.
Really.
Some of them really were misunderstandings.
@ACuriousMind :o call German 911!
111?

999

@KyleKanos srs
what is 111 the emergency thing

2:31 AM
112
German emergency is 112. 110 for police.

999 is an official emergency telephone number in a number of countries which allows the caller to contact emergency services for urgent assistance. Countries and territories using 999 include Bahrain, Bangladesh, Botswana, Ghana, Hong Kong, Kenya, Macau, Malaysia, Mauritius, Qatar, Ireland, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Kingdom of Swaziland, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and Zimbabwe. == United Kingdom == 999 is the historic emergency number for the United Kingdom, but calls are also accepted on the European Union emergency number, 112. All calls are answered...
TIL: 112 in the EU

in any case
idk what is wrong with ACM

In any case, you trolled & got caught

@ACuriousMind you should get that checked out

apparently Sci Hub has been down for a week

2:33 AM
@KyleKanos To be fair, I never got banned for trolling.

Nah, I'm fine.
::lights blunt::

Oh
I guess that's why

shite, research gate wants me to pick a discipline
I don't have one

Better to pick a discipline than a disciple?

What are you doing on research gate, anyway?

2:35 AM
TRUMP GOING FOR THE IKE DEPORTATION

Hello all!

"People can also freely use the copyrighted articles for research or educational purposes under the fair use doctrine."

@ACuriousMind ...I am a dealer of papers
I need a new supplier

Well what am I gonna do with a science paper other than research or education you berks
I mean this sentence literally mean that you can always get them freely
"Under this doctrine, Elsevier’s articles themselves may be taken and used, but only for legitimate purposes"
You heard the judge
You can totally pirate them

@Slereah Well...much science that is not of our theoretical kind can be applied to commerical things :P

2:37 AM
Who cares for those guys

But yeah, stuff like your wormhole papers I don't see much other use for

@KyleKanos Can we deport 12 million people?

Sure, why not?
Or are you asking, "Can we actually do it & not just talking point/on paper"

@KyleKanos Yes.
Apparently Ike deported a lot of people.

Oh, then no

2:38 AM
Oh wait

I was wondering how long it would take DJT to bring it up.

Sci Hub is still online at one of its address
woo

@Slereah It was established some time ago that posting the actual links here is frowned upon by the Powers That Be.

...
I just signed up for Research Gate
Said I'm an algebraic geometer

Well that's good, because it doesn't seem to work :p

2:39 AM
There's like 10,000 people working with INS, it'd take decades for them to process 12 mil people

can't get the paper
what link

I know all about quadratic equations
Wow Dr. Zinkle has 265 publications
He's so nice

2:52 AM
@dmckee Looking through Research Gate for my profs. Dr. Chvala regularly has 400+ co-authors.
@ACuriousMind wait, why is this so crazy
@ACuriousMind I'm in a research group at a major university.

I was to this point not under the impression that ResearchGate was actually an important element in researchers' work. The only time I've ever been given a link to it is by cranks on this site who uploaded their crazy theories there. :P

@ACuriousMind orly
@ACuriousMind well I was looking for some crank paper on CTCs for you know who :P

Research Gates tends to be the other place people post their papers when they're too good for Arxiv
