4:00 AM
I don't mean that if it follows that rule it must be true

haste is false, and we know that already

I'm trying to use a stone to get information

Guesses have to be guesses at the rule.

then it's not a guess

You can't just say "this is part of the rule"

4:01 AM
do i get my stone back?

Yes. There is a known counterexample.

pass

bobo's turn

mondo hassle guess false

guess true

4:04 AM
hassle is false
mics: 2, bobo: 2

guess has h and t and isn't haste

(that's a way to get more information)

(if that's actually correct, JD, you're banned from Zendo forever)

intuition is true

4:06 AM
but you could have gotten another false counterexample
you have a stone left

pass

mics:2, bobo:1

time is false

pass

4:09 AM
master intuitive

intuitive is true
pass?

guess: has at least two members in the set {'h','t'} with multiplicity and is not haste
:D
made the rule more explicit
@John?

You mean, at least one h and at least one t?

@JohnDvorak either >=2 h's or >= 2 t's or both an h and a t

oh.
octagon is true
mics:2, bobo: 0
Mics' turn

4:14 AM
OHHHHHH!

@micsthepick

Do you want the log?

oh, hold on

there goes my theory, unless

intuition is already known, but I also revealed another word. Does Bobo lose the stone in this case?

@JohnDvorak presses the off button
@Deus rules clarification please!

I don't think he should lose it.

4:29 AM
I'll give Bobo another guess then, but we need a ruling after the game

guess: there is a pair of identical letters separated by at least two more letters such that the separating letters and one of the identical letters are all unique

I don't think I understand your rule. Rotor is known false.

in RotoR, you have oto+R which has two O's

all the letters in between need to be unique ^ (and also not the same letter)

Oh. Understood.
Hold on, thinking

4:32 AM
hears gears turning
it would be funny if this was nothing like the actual rule but happens to almost overlap for the set of words in the English language

Even funnier if there was no counterexample

afk for a few minutes

I can't think of a counterexample. Congratulations!

What.

wait

4:36 AM
You can't think of one either way?

My rule was: Word has a non-palindromic substring that begins and ends with the same letter

let me see

Any two-letter string with letters unique is non-palindromic, so I'd need a positive example

I believe ONE-ON-ONE fits your rule but not Bobo's

It contains ONEO

4:38 AM
yes
so it fits your rule
but no letters are unique

They are within the substring.

aholla?
not a word
but something like that

The rule didn't say "within the substring".
@micsthepick SHELLS

nice find

so is that a valid counterexample?

4:41 AM
Shells is a valid C/E

identical letters .. such that the separating letters and one of the identical letters are all unique
Shells is a valid counterexample indeed

Welp

I was looking for something in the form A.*BCBC.*A, forgot about A.*BB.*A
Anyways, Bobo's win

Can't play again, sorry.

and, he would have won after one more round or two even if I did bring up shells.

4:44 AM
If I didn't

True

4:58 AM

5:46 AM

6:29 AM
Cobblestone is not, cobblEstonE

7:08 AM
coBbleEstonE -> TRUE

@Wen1now yeah, so cobblestone isn't a counterexample

(I have no idea what's going on)
btw, if there're'nough players here then I could play another round

o/

O/

maybe ask in TSL

8:40 PM
Okay.

I do

k then
give us dem rules

then back to the regular schedule
coder?

Master 29

You
8:47 PM
I think I understand now. So, there's two rules: one that declares valid koans and one that declares special ones. We take turns saying "master" followed by a valid koan to determine whether it has the special property, or "mondo" and a valid koan to have everyone guess whether it has the special property. Whoever guesses correctly gets a guessing stone, which allows a player to guess the special property at any time. The master must provide a counter example in order to continue the game.

yes

You
If I play all the games, I will have a "rules for dummies" section in all of the games! :p

sorry, I missed this - 29 is true

You can only guess the special property during your turn
master 63

63 is true

You
8:48 PM
Okay.
So am I playing in this round?

If you want to be

You
Okay, so when do I go?

now? :)

You
Okay.
Master 135.

135 is true

You
8:50 PM
I think I know the rule now. :p

You don't have guessing stones, though

You
Yeah. That's a problem.

ugh i have a rule with 1 counterexample

@You on your next turn, mondo something

You
Okay.

8:51 PM
Master 20

20 is false

master 8

8 is false

(pass)

???

8:52 PM
@You your turn

You
Mondo 57 is false.

guess true

You
Yay! I'm doing well!

@thecoder16 guess?

guess false

8:54 PM
57 is false

okay you, you can guess the rule

You
Okay.
The rule is a koran must have an odd number of odd digits (i.e., 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 repeated 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, .. times). Even digits are acceptable.

yes
that is the rule

nice

nice

8:56 PM
Do you wish to master now?

You
Okay.

(I won't be playing in the next game)

You
Just give me a moment to create some rules.
A valid koran is one that satisfies the regex /\d+(\.\w+|\[\.\d+\])/ (one or more digits, followed by either a dot and alphanumeric (including underscore) characters or a decimal without a number before the dot surrounded by brackets). Examples: 623.BaNaNaa63, 7[.6070]

That's a rather complex validity rule

You
This might help: regex101.com/r/3Epgvm/1
Is that too complex? I feel like I made it way too complex.

9:06 PM
When it takes a more-than-minimal effort just to determine if a proposed guess is even valid, You Might Be Doing It Wrongâ„¢.

Yeah, I think so

You
Okay. Give me a moment. :p

and we need a non-example

You
A valid koan is a string of alphanumeric characters. Example: HelloWorld1. Non example: Hello World!

also, it's a koan. a koran is something completely different :)

9:10 PM
Those don't seem to be alphanumeric, unless you gave us multiple examples of each

wait, are those the rule examples? or valid koan examples?

You
I gave multiple examples.

You shouldn't

the non-example should be a valid, but non-matching, koan

You
Oh.
I have to rewrite it.

9:12 PM
?

You
A valid koan is a string of alphanumeric characters. Example: HelloWorld1. Non example: hi.

That looks better :)

You
Thanks.

master 3dogs

You
It only took 5 tries.
3dogs is true.

9:14 PM
Who else is playing?

master: abcdef

You

ppp? coder?
If not...

You
9:18 PM
c1B2 is false.

master l33T

You

You

Is this really just between the three of us?

yes
unless Mics want to join

master: fred1

You
fred1 is true.

master ema1L

You
ema1L is false.

9:26 PM
master: cccc0

You
cccc0 is false.
I have to go now. If anyone wants to be the master, here's the rule: onetimesecret.com/secret/1f5vc93c3sqnckwgctd2l40dtal565x

There's not enough people to bother.

You
Oh, well. :p

reveal, I guess

You
Valid: alphanumeric
Special: incoherent words without numbers, or coherent words with numbers

9:27 PM
define "coherent"

there really should be just one rule.

You
An English word or a name for a human that is not ridiculously uncommon.

define "English word", "name for a human", "ridiculously uncommon"

You
English word: a word in the Oxford dictionary, I guess?

You should clarify that for yourself before using it in a rule
and apply the definition strictly

You
9:29 PM
Human name that is not ridiculously uncommon: a name that is actually given to humans, whether in reality or fiction, that isn't something that sounds riddiculous.
I really should have had better rules.
Anyways, I really have to go now. Bye, all!

once again, "ridiculously uncommon" is subjective. It shouldn't be.

Also depends what common means. Very few fictional names would be commonly given, but would likely be commonly known.

"at least one lowercase, at least one uppercase, at least one digit, at least six characters in total and at most 8" would be a valid rule.
I guess the quorum has dispersed now and it's time for me to head off to bed

after the whole regex thing I had low hopes for this rule :P
the rules should say that easier is better

yeah, rules must be objectively interpretable
(ironically, a regex-based rule would've been better since it would at least be valid)
but yeah, easier rules are definitely better

9:36 PM
I'm still awake, though ;-)
OK, night

I'm here :p

o/

Any willing defenders?

@ppp you want to go?

if no one else is willing to, then sure

Why not? Nobody is objecting
Hello?

9:48 PM
yes ...

Got a rule?

I'm thinking

master 111
...?

I've made a mistake
