5:07 PM
mod resignations everywhere.. :(
One of the sites I was looking forward to contribute to, got one.

Tell me if you people want me to stop those Instagram autism related posts. In any case, I just find this. I think we can all rely (@ava @Rain @Belle)

Ooh I just got an accidental ping from the CEO lol

@scohe001 I saw that. It felt very weird to realized they don't really know how to use the site ^^'

Yeaaaaa I'm going to assume this was an honest mistake, but I worry that others will take it like you did that he doesn't know how to use the site

5:23 PM
I mean.......they probably are unfamiliar with the site......

Oh nvm. The comment was edited and mine was deleted. There goes my time in the spotlight :p

@scohe001 Agree with @El. He didn't even had a diamond when he first posted (people asked him to "put one" so that his post would look legit)

Eh that's SOP for SE staff that don't actually have a need for moderation tho. IIRC, the sales and other internal staff don't have diamonds despite still answering stuff in an official capacity on meta

@scohe001 Really? That's... weird IMO

I think that was one of the big purposes of the "Staff" badge on the user page. Was so that they wouldn't NEED to give diamonds to make ppl "official"

5:28 PM
Changing subject: any equally socially inept people wanna chat?. I feel like this sentence should be on our room description :p

@scohe001 That does sound about right. A big jump from "regular" staff to the CEO though.

True. I mean this was the first comment on the post for gosh sake. I guess there was nothing on the profile (no profile image or description) when he first posted

Which is kinda bewildering. I can kinda understand the CEO himself not thinking to fill out his user profile since he's entirely a business-y kinda guy, but still, shouldn't there have been someone that went "hey wait..."?
Like, that's what people who join a community do, right? The 'social' aspect of social networks?

@El'endiaStarman Maybe technical people around him are so used to the site, they thought he would have automatically done it?

Yeah, perhaps? ... But how many technical people around him do you think there actually are?

5:38 PM
@Ælis thanks for that! that relieved me a lot

@El'endiaStarman Not that many but hight level non-technical people might be as unfamiliar with the site than he is? And maybe someone lower level notice but didn't talk to the CEO because they were impressed/scared? (I know I notice stuff but I also make a lot of effort into not talking with my CEO ^^')

Maybe? I dunno. I'm probably being too hard on the CEO.....

I've had several conversations with my CEO, he's a pretty down to earth kind of person.

@dhein Since we (vaguely) talked about it this morning: instagram.com/p/B7jY13whXf1

Finally found an example of a staff member posting without a diamond @Ælis: meta.stackoverflow.com/a/387263/2602718

5:43 PM
@scohe001 Thanks for the link :) At least they made sure to say "I work with the advertising team here at Stack Overflow". But some alternative to the diamond would still be nice for them IMO

Personally, I think that staff should have a different symbol than the diamond. If I'm interacting with someone who has a diamond, I don't know if they are a community mod or staff unless I know them to be one or the other

@Rainbacon Yes, that too

@scohe001 I don't want to have to expand a user card to see that. Just put a different symbol next to their name

^ that

5:46 PM
Fair

1 hour later…
7:04 PM
a hexagon is my suggestion for staff members xd
it doesn't break layouts too much

A hexagon is actually used for mods in SO Teams, IIRC.

Yep

7:37 PM
oh never knew :p

Em C has removed ElizB from the list of this room's owners.

(she resigned a couple days ago but I just now got around to updating things)

You were the chosen one! It was said you would join the socially inept people, not leave them! Bring balance to the silence, not leave it in awkwardness!

*in awkwardness? :p

Ahem idk what you mean
(yours was definitely way better lol)

:D

10:34 PM
So, I just (ab)use my RO power to pin this. I was joking a bit, but maybe we really want that?

I just got out of a surprise 5pm meeting and now I have ten more things on my to-do list.. but I wanna go home.. :'(

@EmC Now that it's written down, it will still be there tomorow, won't it?

@Ælis heh. where would you add it?

Ooh we got another non-diamond staff post just a few hrs ago @Ælis meta.stackoverflow.com/a/393170/2602718

@Ælis part of the meeting was basically "how much can we get done by this time tomorrow" .. and by "we" she meant, me
bleh

@EmC :/
@scohe001 People don't seem really nice toward staff :/ (I'm talking about all the downvotes)

I mean on that one it's kind of justified. They stuck a QT image (a C++ library) on the C++ tag, violating their previous tag ad campaign rules

@Ælis that's just how everything is at my job right now ;__;

@scohe001 Well, I don't know. Maybe I'm just tired and should go to sleep (well, I should have been to sleep an hour ago, so that's probably a good idea)
good night people :)

Night!!

good night!

Q: How to avoid telling people about my job?

KamRaNew people who I meet always ask what I do for work. This question is normal and polite to ask, but I don't always want to tell people what I do for the following reasons: My job is unusual, which prompts more questions and turns the whole conversation into more questions about my job. I would...

The developers of TAS: What (cross-platform preferably ) profiler do you use for your code?
I am aware of instruments.app, but I cannot make sense of its data. I saw "hotspot" but it needs a lot of dependencies, so it's a later option.
flame graphs is a good option, if someone can vouch for it
