Ooh looks like we've had some election drama while I was gone
@M.A.R you must be enjoying it :p
But I'm happy to see @Eliz's name on there! It's a pleasant surprise to see you stepping up :)

@scohe001 I think it got a little blown out of proportion, but yeah

Agreed, it doesn't actually look too crazy. Just a little stirring of the pot

I mostly just want it to be next Tuesday already so the suspense will be over
Also, is there a reason the election is 8 days while the nomination and primary are only 7?

Q: How do I politely refuse doing a favor for a friend?

RightMistakeI have a friend who doesn't speak english very well. She once asked me to help her with a small text that had just about two paragraphs and I helped her, correcting the mistakes that she made. After a while, she sent me 4 documents with many pages. And a lot of mistakes. I don't want to keep re...

4:07 PM
Life's funny. A month ago I was managing routers, VMs and stuff. And now I'm developing code for a server less solution ...

@avazula I kept reading that Reuters and I was thinking "impressive"
Just woke up from a nap and I feel like the caveman whose ice cube just melted. GAAAAAA get that hot yellow flower away from me
@ExtrovertedMainMan If that's not OT I can't possibly believe it has not been asked before
@scohe001 As much as I can muster
@IPSCommentBot That Title Case UPPER CASE guy is commenter of the day

Invalid feedback type. Valid feedback types are tp, fp, rude, and wrongo

@IPSCommentBot fp yeah sure whatever
@Ælis It looks like a giant beetle. I think the boat I remember was more time-tested

4:23 PM
@Rainbacon I'd love to. Me and @El'endiaStarman have been talking about going to the museum of math there.
@scohe001 i'm glad i got the courage to see what happens with that

@Upper_Case it's a classic microaggression, i.e. a question that while not intended as such does in fact re-enforce the notion that the person is "other" or different. As someone in a similar situation I can tell you that it gets really, really old really, really fast too. — user 1 min ago

@IPSCommentBot tp

Marked this comment as caught correctly (tp). Currently marked 1tps/0fps. beep boop My human overlords won't let me flag that, so you'll have to do it yourself.

Pffft.
Pruned some more comments there, why do people think it's okay to argue? :/

@Tinkeringbell More like why do people think they can convince someone else with a few sentences?

4:39 PM
@avazula Ooh, are you using the serverless framework?

Eyes?
I'll be writing lines tonight. "I shall not answer HNQ's."

Sounds a bit difficult when you don't know if it's going to be HNQ for several hours...

@El'endiaStarman 'I shall not answer anything that is unanswered but has 5 upvotes already'

...that's probably a pretty good rule of thumb.
But think of all the rep you'd be missing out on!

I think it'll be worth not feeling like my hands are tied like this when moderating.
I dunno...

4:57 PM
It'll be better once there's an additional mod.

@El'endiaStarman Nah, this is me wanting to do more :P Not other mods doing too little :)
I just see stuff pop up and want to handle it...

Of course. :)

5:12 PM
hard to do stuff from my mobile...

I was getting lunch

5:40 PM
@Rainbacon I'll take that, thank you very much
*confiscates Bacon's lunch* *eats it*

I call mod abuse!

5. The only one who hears you is me.
Roll for perception.
^Still no luck finding a group of people who'd be willing to try D&D. I've heard a lot about it, but never actually played.

@Mithrandir Wrong chatroom, perhaps?

@Tinkeringbell shouldn't you be sitting down and doing it IRL?

It's a lot of fun, you could probably find a group online. I personally prefer to play in person though. It's hard to stay engaged online

5:47 PM
@Tinkeringbell No, it was related to the joke I made about Rainbacon calling mod abuse.

I read that as 'detracting from the fact that it's mod abuse'

6:24 PM
I've wanted to play D&D too it's hard to do in person because of schedules

@ElizB Yeah, that too
I'm in a game with some friends and we've played I think 4 or 5 times in as many months. We haven't played in over a month and I don't think we're going to be able to for at least another month or so

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ It certainly has the potential, but so far the votes on the answers are really low
According to the HNQ user script, it has an estimated hotness of 7%. The current HNQ is at an estimated hotness of 136%, so I doubt that one will overtake it anytime soon

Gut feeling says I prefer having the current wreck we have in HNQ ;) Though having that one go through HNQ might attract someone that actually knows what they're talking about so... Not sure.

@Tinkeringbell Yeah, but I think it's almost a guarantee that it will also attract a few extremely rude answers as well
I do hope a more credible source answers it. Nothing against any of the current answers, but none of them have personal experience with the current racial tensions in the US

Well, extremely rude is easy to moderate ;)
Those I nuke without second thoughts, even if I have my own answer to a question

Yes, but I'd rather not have to moderate if possible. Better that abuse never gets posted than it getting posted and removed

7:14 PM
To my own questions, I usually just wait
@Rainbacon True.

Finally done with my day at the museum. Waiting for the bus. :) otherwise i'm just uncomfortable because it's that time of the month again for me.

@Rainbacon Yes sir!
It's nice actually. First steps are hard as heck but after a while it's a delight. Plus it looks like you're compiling when you deploy, and it makes the C++ gal in me very happy :D
@ElizB :(
I'm actually in the middle of a shutdown. My cat killed a bird an hour ago. They died in my hands. It was too much for me to handle.
Funny thing is that i go to TAS to regenerate
:)
I'm by the pond, enjoying the view. So quiet.

@avazula :'( <3

7:31 PM
@Ælis I'm better now :) the team building day yesterday just sucked up all the energy out of me, even though it was great. I'm just not good at being sociable every day :p

@avazula I really like it. I actually got to deploy a new system to production with it today. Got some stories last sprint to build out an admin portal for our site and I convinced them to let me do it with serverless.
Also, yay for C++!
I miss C++
I've been looking to find jobs in it, but they are less common than I was expecting
Are you using NodeJS as your runtime?

@Rainbacon yeah, it's nowhere to be found :(
@Rainbacon nope, our backend is all python. :feels blessed:

Well, I suppose that's better than JS, but only slightly :p

@avazula I completly relate to that. My aunt will be coming to see me at my parents house next Sunday and I'm already worry. Especialy because I have planned a busy Saturday so I won't be that well rested

It's not even close to be as good as C based languages, ofc :p
@Ælis :( :sends out much much love:

7:36 PM
@avazula <3

@Rainbacon HEY!

@El'endiaStarman Ah, there you are. Wondered how long that would take you

@M.A.R.ಠ_ಠ I doubt it. Our current HNQ is a lot more popular and even if it wasn't, this guy has a higher hotness score
Speaking of which, this answer from a relatively new user has everything I think we want in a good answer--and it's well written to boot! I think it may be getting a bounty in the next few days ;)

7:54 PM
@Rainbacon ಠ_ಠ

@scohe001 I thought the same thing when I read it. I've seen a few of that user's posts recently, they look much better than the typical new user content

Hehe i'm liking this. I wonder what else rainbacon is gonna say to provoke el'endia :P

@ElizB ಠ___ಠ

+1 I'm sympathetic with OP and lived a similar situation and yes, some people are j@rks and just want to get under your skin, for those I say "I'm proud to be from x" what in general put this kind of people off guard. A line I got from a movie I often use is "From many places" and start diverging speaking from many places I lived. — jean 1 min ago

@El'endiaStarman whistling innocently

8:03 PM
@IPSCommentBot well maybe we should let you flag stuff

@Mithrandir It got posted, flagged, and deleted all in the time it took me to go to the restroom, I think the community can handle doing the flagging

I was thinking more like - if it trips a regex, check how accurate the regex is. If that regex has at least a 90% tp rate (of the ones with feedbacks), and at least 30 tps for that regex, and it's not the OP of either the question or answer, then the bot automatically flags it as well as reporting it, and reports that it was flagged.

> j@rks
JARKS, I tell ya!

Yeah, I suppose that seems somewhat reasonable
Though I think we'd need to be better at marking them

@Mithrandir oof idk if we have enough comments for it to be worth it. 1/10 failure rate is pretty bad for something as sensitive as comments

8:17 PM
Fun fact: IPS has 10x as many comments as questions.

For example, that last regex has 79 tp and 2 fp, but it matches 601 comments. I wouldn't say that has a 97% rate (79/81) since we have no data on roughly 87% of the comments
Does that include deleted comments?

@scohe001 At the moment, yeah, probably not worth it. Something to keep in mind for the future, though.

Or deleted questions (I'm guessing no)

@Rainbacon yes. It includes all comments that have been scanned in. Many of those have likely been deleted by now oops, looks like you were asking about Mith's stat
@Mithrandir is that something the bot would even be capable of? It looks like we just read data with it--can we actually write stuff back like flags?

@Rainbacon no
@scohe001 The functionality doesn't exist at the moment, but should be possible with the API, I think.
How often do y'all check interpersonal.stackexchange.com/…, out of curiosity?

8:27 PM
Pretty much never

Maybe once every month or two when I remember it exists (like right now)

Hmm.

8:47 PM
@Mithrandir Every time someone links it on chat...

9:00 PM
ugh, it's 5pm and I have a meeting that is starting :(

9:12 PM
[passes a Molotov cocktail] You know what to do.

It's ok. We have a company sponsored happy hour tonight. That means I get to find the strongest drink I can and let work pay for it :)

That works. :)

2 hours later…
11:14 PM
what do you guys do when you space out in middle of a conversation, and people look at you expectantly?
lol

11:51 PM
@Rainb I laugh it off and say "I lost my train of thought, sorry! What were we talking about?"
