12:58 AM
Hmm.... Am I the only one who's routinely tempted to rage quit this site?

33
Q: What to do if you've harassed someone?

Adam JensenEvery now and then, I'm reminded about something awful or embarrassing that I did, and this, sadly, includes sexual harassment, mostly in the form of - but not limited to - drunken messages or phone calls. I understand that the best thing to do is just to not harass someone in the first place, b...

I'm not really sure how to improve this question. The answers really do cover all the situations I'm thinking about.
From the top answer: "You don't need to call out any specific victims, but a general [message] seems to strengthen the movement, [...] and will probably help you feel better about it."
That answers my question.
And I did describe the nature of the harassment in question (years ago, not physical, not work-related, unwarranted and most likely unwanted drunk texts and calls). Isn't that clear enough?

1:31 AM
@AdamJensen You're asking "what can I do"... perhaps try asking "how can I atone" or "how can I apologize" ? If you're asking what to do in general, you're flirting with answers anywhere from "do nothing" to "find them and talk to them in person and apologize"... there's a lot of middle ground there. :D
Clearly this is something that is still upsetting you, so explain why you want to apologize, what you hope to gain from it. You may still get people responding "move on" but hopefully you'll also get some answers that let you know whether apologizing is appropriate at all and, if so, how to do it. We have a similar question from early on in the site's history that I don't know is a great example but it might give you some ideas of the sort of answers you might get.
.... um... if I can find it...

1 hour later…
2:52 AM
@Catija thanks. I changed the title. I did some searching, but couldn't find a question about apologizing for sexual harassment. There was one on apologizing for scolding though.

@AdamJensen Yeah, this was a guy in a shared house situation who was overheard by some female roommates that he'd like to see them at some sort of... anime thing... or something. I don't remember it exactly.

My main motivation is just to do the right thing. My selfish motivation would be to make myself feel better.

The problem with that selfish motivation is that, if you did harm this other person, you risk doing further harm by reaching out to them again... it's a difficult situation to be in.

Yeah, that's why I came here. Sanity check.
Is this is the question you were thinking about?

I find that a third party or written message to open a dialogue is often helpful. It gives them the choice to decide whether they want to interact or not.
Yep. Nice find :D
I'd forgotten the anime angle until just now.

2:57 AM
That's a good idea.

I try my best.

1 hour later…
4:21 AM
@Catija try harder ;)

4:36 AM
@Catija we should probably argue here, we don't want to upset the kids.

Too late... literally. Going to bed. And I'm sorry but... I don't really see there as being anything to argue about.
You don't have to agree but I'm not going to delete the answer.

@Catija alright that's your call...

1 hour later…
5:40 AM
@apaul Nah, I had an episode like that this weekend... What's wrong?

@Tinkeringbell which thing are you asking about?

You said you felt like rage-quitting... So I asked what was wrong ;)
But I've found your meta already (don't know why introvertedmetaman didn't pick it up?)

@Tinkeringbell Oh ya, that thing, sorry I'm still learning how to use chat.
@Tinkeringbell honestly that had little to do with the feeling.

@apaul Oh.... than what? (or if you don't want to talk about it....)

It's more that some of the most hateful nonsense that I've seen online lately has been connected to this site.

5:49 AM
@apaul Hmm... I'm afraid there's no way to prevent it, we can only flag, downvote, vtc or edit afterwards...
But yeah, it is getting a bit much sometimes!

I don't like playing the victim, but it gets irritating that the most frequent interaction I have with bigots happens here...

Do you think we're slow on the uptake when these problems arise?

@Tinkeringbell not exactly, just hoped that a site about interpersonal skills would be above these things.

@apaul I'm sorry, I can shut up? :P But seriously, I can imagine that you're getting a lot more bs your way, you've been courageous enough to put a lot of your personality on the internet, even the parts that half the world sadly doesn't accept or even tolerates yet....
@apaul Hey, I'm also here to learn to deal with such things... I think the opposite will be true. People will come here with no IPS at all and expect a miracle cure... And in the mean time, hurt a lot of others.

@Tinkeringbell I get that. And to an extent, I expect it.

5:54 AM
Btw, fun fact: my post flag for trolling for this was deemed helpful.... but nothing more happened :/

It's just irritating that people still can't bring these things up without backlash.
@Tinkeringbell I flagged that one too. No results.

@apaul Hmm.... yeah... I can see where that causes friction... to some extent you expect it, but you're also disappointed when it actually happens (a lot).
I think you should stay... you've been my best teacher so far regarding those topics ;)
@apaul I'm sorry, but I can't change the world for you :( I've started with myself though :)

@Tinkeringbell I'm not going anywhere, just saying that the instinct to throw up middle fingers and bounce happens surprisingly often.
@Tinkeringbell lol the effort is appreciated.

@apaul Why not? You can throw middle fingers at your screen if that helps you vent (and you're not anywhere near people that will see you do it :P )... Then flag, or post a link in chat so we can see how often this happens + help you flag
You know, you can take 10 minute breaks from IPS... I've survived one, once :P

@Tinkeringbell I hope I haven't put you off. I don't mind honest conversations, but the bigots wrapped in political rhetoric thing is awful.
@Tinkeringbell Ya, I know you're right. I've told many users to take breaks. It just feels different when it's this personal.

6:04 AM
@apaul I know... I've written 37 answers so far, and I think I'm only applying half of my own advice in similar situations ;)... Most of my answers are 'talk about it, calmly'... yeah, wait until I get up to steam! :P

One thing to argue about best practices in code, something else entirely when it's a core fact of your life.

@apaul What!? but best practices are life :(
You're right though...
You shouldn't have to defend that like in an argument about best practices... explaining would be nice, but not defending..

@Tinkeringbell eh, best practices keep you out of trouble, but they're not nearly as fun or interesting lol

@apaul Hmmm... Maybe they're still new to me, and I'm pretty easily fascinated by new things... ask me again in a year or 5

@Tinkeringbell living by the formula works for some people, and at times I have to admit that I wish I could just do that...

6:09 AM
@apaul What formula? ;) Don't say that, I like to feel unique in my own way :P
Don't you dare to get discouraged by some internet idiots...
Next time, let me have at them :P

@Tinkeringbell unfortunately love is love. Love isn't just blind, sometimes it snaches you up and kicks your ass...

@apaul Yeah, that's what I was told... I never really had the hormones kick in I think...

@Tinkeringbell nothing to do with hormones. More to do with falling so hard for someone that nothing else matters.

@apaul Yeah but that's hormones right? Hormones get released and you lose your mind ....

@Tinkeringbell ya, if you wanna be cynical about it lol

6:14 AM
Is that cynical? I thought it was scientifically proven .... :(

@Tinkeringbell it's both, but I prefer the romantic version

@apaul Oh romance... our teacher had us write an essay about it once, what we thought would be 'romance'. I got an A, but also a very disapproving look :P

-1
Q: Rude/abusive flag declined?

apaulI flagged an answer as rude/abusive, here is the answer in it's entirety: Try to flirt with him online, on facebook/whatsapp/whatever. He doesn't approach you because it could be dangerous for his reputation if you reject him and tell everyone. (look at this ton of judgemental comments, even ...

@IntrovertedMetaMan. Slowpoke :P

@Tinkeringbell I thought you were in your 20's?

6:18 AM
@apaul Yeah, the essay was years ago ;) I should have mentioned that ;)

@Tinkeringbell 30's?

I think I was 16 or 17 at the time of writing, so 10 years ago...
26, somewhere in between ;-)

@Tinkeringbell mid-20's

No, second half :P

@Tinkeringbell kids these days...

6:20 AM
@apaul kids those days :P I had no idea what to write... so we had a philosophy class about language... and I wrote something along the lines of 'romance is just a word, and a bad one at that because what romance is varies for every person you ask'.
And since every essay that was turned in was different, teacher could do nothing more than give me an A, even though he hated the essay :P

@Tinkeringbell at your age I thought I was straight... Life has a way of throwing curve balls.

@Tinkeringbell That's surprisingly reasonable. Seen and heard of plenty of teachers that won't give an A for that

@JarkoDubbeldam He was a very reasonable guy.. .but also a hopeless romanticus :P
And: no spelling/grammar errors, and a good essay.
That's what the exercise was about after all.

@Tinkeringbell hey now, being a hopeless romantic has it's perks =P

I'm sure it does ;)

6:25 AM
@Tinkeringbell you should try it sometime ;)

@apaul at 26? hmm... that's a curve-ball indeed!
@apaul I'll ask my teddy bear if he feels up to it.

@Tinkeringbell like I said I was a late bloomer lolol
^ just jokes

Well, I think I'm going to bloom late as well (hopefully without curve-balls, I would go personally crazy I think)
Jokes are okay ;)

@Tinkeringbell it does have a way of turning your life upside down.

@apaul yeah... I don't like being upside down.
Makes me nauseous :P

6:33 AM
@Tinkeringbell no one.does, but I'm just messing with you.

@apaul I wasn't being entirely serious either ;)

@Tinkeringbell obviously lol

Anyways... you think you can stand another day of IPS after this? :P I've got to go in a few minutes :)

1 hour later…
7:51 AM
@Tinkeringbell: Meta man probably didn't picked it up as he was too busy to help main man with the question if NVZ wants to be more then just friends :D

@dhein Interesting question :P (but unless I know if @NVZ can appreciate the humour, I'm not going to make a follow-up joke ;) )

Well, wasn't @NVZ starting the joke about having a relation with main man, as he asked how to have a relation? :P

NVZ
@dhein eh, what?
@Tinkeringbell I tried the "unnotify" command to remove me from Smokey reports.. Didn't work. :( I think I'm done for life.

@NVZ Ah well, ask Mithrandir. He's the Smokey guru.. Or ask in Charcoal ;)
@dhein Wait,,, you're referring to the joke I made yesterday?
The relationship question wasn't asked by @NVZ ;)

NVZ
8:09 AM
@Tinkeringbell I'm confused. What's with NVZ and stuff?
Am i in some relationship that i'm unaware of?

@NVZ I think I'm confused as well now ;) Did you ever make a joke to main man about having a relationship?

@Tinkeringbell: its a tick. too curious letting anything unread in here. So I responded to that joke. You too had been making it. and I followed up on that, despite a bit late '^.^

NVZ
@Tinkeringbell nothing recently. although, i am the one who gave life to these two men.
;)

I suspect @dhein is referring to the banter I made yesterday... chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/40622664#40622664
We weren't talking about main or meta man though, but about smokey ;)

NVZ
@Tinkeringbell lol.. okay.. that
@SmokeDetector hello

8:11 AM
And I was suggesting using smokey as a solution to ' wanting to be in a relationship, but ..."

NVZ
ohkayy...

Because, as you so nicely stated: 'aww, you remember me' :P

NVZ
yep
now i want to be not remembered..
and the command isn't working

I think @Catija must have offended Smokey by removing his message yesterday. Haven't seen him since :P

ahhhh ok, sorry I confused his relation to smoky with that to mainman.
@NVZ but the love seemed to be shortwhiling anyways, as you seem to try extinguish smookys flame again?:D

NVZ
8:14 AM
lol

Yep, @NVZ just broke up :P
Why though? Weren't you liking your notifications?

NVZ
yep. @SmokeDetector we had a good run. :)
@Tinkeringbell nope.
abusive relationship. always complaining to me..

:(
always sad to see a broken home

NVZ
@JarkoDubbeldam you are welcome to fix the home.. :)

would asking how to handle the breakup be on-topic for IPS?

NVZ
8:17 AM
@JarkoDubbeldam break up with a bot? LOL

@NVZ LOL!

Hey now, while you might see her as a bot, she might think otherwise

Huh? I thought I was in relationship with a 'he' :)

She is a proud and independent smokedetector

there was a debate over the gender of Smokey, result was inconclusive

8:20 AM
@NVZ I know what you mean, she's just allways talking about the bad stuff in the world.... gets after some time very annoying....

Okay, I'm gonna break up as well if it's a she! :P

@Tinkeringbell: huh you had been in a relation ship with her, too?
Seems like she is a little alley cat. ;D

@dhein If I remember correctly, you're also having a relationship with Smokey :P

Well I'm not having trouble, dating an alley cat, as long everyone plays with open cards and is honest about feelings. Smokey never promised me love, just to notify me, when to have some jump on some badys '^.^
>.<
@Tinkeringbell: By the way what elections had you been speaking about yesterday?

Q: How to prove to my parents " I am not junk "?

Amruth AI'm a 24-year-old programmer earning about around 30K/month (Indian rupee). I have always lived with my parents. They always compare me with others who are earning higher wages or those who are doing higher studies and are making me feel like I'm junk and not improving in life. Now I am also l...

9:02 AM
@Tinkeringbell: very interesting answer you nominated! Haven't read it before and it gives me quiet some insight about myself :)
I love this kind of answers!

Me too :) That's why I immediately nominated it. And it looks like it's going to win.
I'm honored to have 2 of my answers nominated as well, but they're low on votes... that's what the campaigning part was about.

NVZ
9:14 AM
@ExtrovertedMainMan this has a strong indian culture thing to it. A lot of the Indian parents compare their kids' achievements with that of other kids. I think OP wants to tell them that he is doing well enough that he's not as worthless as the parents think he is.

@Tinkeringbell Ah yes, I wondered whether I should nominate that answer, but didn't, since it already had those bounties.

@JarkoDubbeldam I think it could use even more :-) So, I've nominated it :)

After having read that, I'm curious if IPS works as autism magnet, due to the appreciation, passive attention and possible positive feedback our posts about experiences might receive. I wouldn't have admit it. But reading that post somewhat reveals thats a pattern, I tend to aswell.
I'm actually even thinking about giving it a bounty, too....

@dhein it is a magnet for me

@dhein @dhein put it on a list for after you've got all your privileges :)

9:18 AM
@dhein I think those expect IPS to be some sort of "encyclopedia" of how interacting with people properly. I've noticed I used that in that way too

@Tinkeringbell: yeah, but it won't be possible anymore if it receives the #1 bounty, would it?

@dhein Sure, why not?
You can have as many bounties on an answer as you'd like ;)

@Mithrandir Intersex, obviously :P - cam.ac.uk/research/features/…

@NVZ Okay, so do we do a hero-edit? It reads to me like OP wants to talk to his parents and convey to them that they are hurting his confidence, but I'm not sure, I need input.

@Tinkeringbell I thought the community frowns upon this?

9:22 AM
@Vylix Yes... that's why I ask though, if there's 2 people that are thinking/interpreting it exactly the same way... Maybe it's not so ambiguous

@Tinkeringbell I agree it might be that way. Sounds like a language barrier.
Let's see if the OP will like the edit.

@Vylix: Hm, well, for stackoverflow, I started to hang around, as giving good answers gave me some sort of acceptance I was missing in real life at that time, and still some what am. Enjoying this sort of feedback was a reason for me, to even fully motivated learn C by its ISO/IEC:9899 standard '^.^ . To get more often this feeling.

For IPS its definitely also the encyclopedia usage part, but thats just a BIG HUGE chery on top of that for me. That post made me actually realize it. I'm not that different from what that user described. Despite not as incisive in all mentioned areas.
@Tinkeringbell: I was thinking there was a "has to be double of the previous bounty, but can't exceed 500"-rule. And hmmm.... I don't like hero edits. >.<

Nobody is hero-editing. Let's keep it that way and wait for the OP to come back (hopefully).

NVZ
9:43 AM
@Vylix language barrier, yep. I see that you and @Tinkeringbell have improved it a lot. The initial revision shows they're not very fluent.
@Tinkeringbell i'm not editing it. i'm too tired to write...

@NVZ I'm not going to do it either, until I know very sure what OP wants...
Might be that he doesn't want 'a good talk with parents' but some sort of miracle cure for 'being worthless'.
or better: against feeling worthless

@apaul: May I ask you something about your ppersonality regarding: interpersonal.stackexchange.com/q/4776/32 ?

has anyone here got some advice for me to deal with nervousness?

@Termatinator nervousness in what situation?

@Termatinator: A bit too broad for the chat I would say. If you can break it down to specific situation, just post a question?:)

9:53 AM
@Vylix texting (whattsapp)
@dhein I'd rather not post a question, because this is a continuation of my only question

@Termatinator You're doing fine here, so don't worry too much? :P What do have to app/whom?

@Termatinator Why do you feeling nervous?
@Termatinator Might be useful if you post some background story of why you feel nervous

@Tinkeringbell the girl I talked about in my question. I have a few ideas to approach here (because of the answers) but I still am very nervous, so I want some advice to deal with the nervousness (the answers on my questions were good advice) (I don't mean to disrespect anyone that helped me, they helped me with the ideas for the approach)
@Vylix see my only question for background, this is only a continuation.

@Termatinator do you feel nervous when you text casually with the girl?
or only when thinking about confessing via WA?

@Vylix yes... I don't feel nervous when I speak to her in person (wich is really weird and I don't want to confess on WA)
@Vylix In my question I also said the same about awkwardness, I don't consider awkwardness and nervousness to be the same

10:12 AM
@Termatinator do you realize that people might misinterpret texts because they don't have intonation?
that might explain why you feel nervous when texting and not when talking in-person
or might be because your text have been misinterpreted before, so you don't feel so secure in using text

@Vylix that's why I don't want to confess in WA, my texts weren't misinterpreted

@Termatinator your line here seems contradicting. Do you mean "that's why I don't want to confess in WA, my texts may be misinterpreted"

I know that if I feel nervous, I'm not texting her (I want to, but lack the confidence) not wanting to confess is just trying to prevent misinterpretation
Right now I'm still "analyzing the situation" to prevent bad outcomes

I think it's perfectly okay to not text her if you're not up to it beforehand. Is the idea of texting causing the nervousness?

@Tinkeringbell the idea that I want to make contact (as in speaking/texting), knowing I love her (starting contact again but not confessing (not yet))

10:22 AM
Okay... than take a little step back: How would you approach me? :P
(assuming your not loving me)

o_o

Okay, I was just trying to get the point across that 'you should contact her just like you would any other friend'.

@Tinkeringbell Well, just normal, polite

@Vylix This

you're friends...don't be too polite ;)

10:25 AM
@Tinkeringbell I don't have a lot of friends, so...

@Termatinator Okay, I'm just gonna spill the beans :P
> Hey!
That how I app friends when I want their attention (or want to give them attention)
Hey, how are you?
Hey, last night was fun! We should do that again

@Tinkeringbell yes I know that part, but it's about the rest of the conversation too

Ahh...
Does it fall silent a lot?

@Tinkeringbell I'm someone who likes to analyse every single possible outcome of things
@Tinkeringbell sometimes

@Termatinator Yeah, that's not really possible when using whatsapp :)

10:28 AM
on both sides

That's a difficult one, I can improvise ;)
@Termatinator That's okay, but if your afraid of it, it might cause more nervousness.

eh, conversations falling silent in IM is normal. Or at least hard to avoid. You are both most likely doing something else at the same time
it is different than sitting together in a room, having nothing to say to eachother

^ that thus

IM doesn't require anyone's full attention, and unless the conversation is really really serious, you shouldn't expect anyone to pay that attention

@JarkoDubbeldam both online, immediately responding to each other, at least I have full attention and she does reply instantly

10:31 AM
@Tinkeringbell What a wonderful dutchism

@JarkoDubbeldam Yeah, I want to have that integrated into the English language :P
I'm quite proud of it :p

dutch is a weird language (love it)

But the thing is, when chatting, do you expect someone to sit there, watching the chat window waiting for a response?
Or are you alt+tabbing to something else, waiting for a ping
Brb, manager called me

@JarkoDubbeldam no I don't expect that, it's just that she instantly replies

@Termatinator So that's good ;) she's giving you attention, she doesn't find you bothersome ;)

10:37 AM
@Tinkeringbell but sometimes we both are online, waiting for each other to say something (i know that because when I type something after the silence, I have those two blue icons (in WA, I hope you know what i mean with "blue icons"))

Yeah I know what you mean, you can see that she read your message.

blue icons are almost instantly

Yeah...

That means that while alt+tabbed, when hearing a plonk, they immediately make time to look at it. That's good

Well, she isn't required to type back instantly/reply instantly. If a friend of mine texts me a 'Hey!' without anything else, I might read it immediately but not answer as it's not as high priority as what I'm currently doing --> e.g. work

10:41 AM
@JarkoDubbeldam It's on the mobile phone

same logic applies

Okay.... it sounds to me like you might be 'tracking' her a little much... Is this something you pay attention to all the time? Or just because we're talking about it now you're mentioning things you've noticed once or twice?

why does she reply instantly in those situations (if, by your example, she's havinng another conversation) @JarkoDubbeldam
@Tinkeringbell noticed in the conversations we had

@Termatinator Because at that moment, she's not. We're now speculating about all those times she doesn't respond immediately ;-)
Point here is: She might be online and read your message, but actually be doing something else/having another conversation on her phone, and thus not replying instantly. It's pretty common to not reply immediately, even when a message is read, and it's pretty common to get an instant reply --> It's sort of a russian roulette

If your conversations with her aren't coming to a grinding halt every time, you've got nothing to worry about regarding that.

@Tinkeringbell She does reply instantly, the silence comes when one of us reply with a very short answer (happened on both sides) But when I ultimately write something else, she does reply instantly, that's why I think she is not having another conversation

10:48 AM
Now, where were we? I think I was trying to figure out why you were so nervous about whatsapping her, asked if you were worried about conversations falling short.... and then we got this whole discussion...

Well, all the things we are discussing is causing some nervousness

@Termatinator Yeah.... well, to me, if I only get a smileyface in return, I often don't know how to keep the conversation going as well... So it might stop for a few minutes, and then either me or my friend picks it up by either changing topic or replying to a more previous message with a more elaborate reply...
So that's normal as well, not too much to worry about.
@Termatinator Can you give 1 example of what you talk about? Does it cause nervousness because of your love for her, or because it's such a serious issue your discussing?

@Tinkeringbell both, I'm getting my nervousness from every little thing, eventually it becomes too much. I know that analyzing is causing some of it, but I do that automatically

Lol
the company I work at is in the middle of a relocation to a new building
and we are pretty much the only office left in the old building.

@JarkoDubbeldam @JarkoDubbeldam XD

10:56 AM
One discovery is that the old building has mice, and now that the building is a lot quieter, theyre coming out

@JarkoDubbeldam you could try deploying cats, oh wait... that would be bloody... never mind

@Termatinator: Well, you mentioned you 2 have the same disorder. So would her behavior fit for running through the same worries as you do right now? She reads what you wrote but is too nervous of reacting, not able to check the possible outcomes and trys to analyize it harder before responding?

@dhein I did consider that, wich makes it even harder to respond

Well, I wouldn't advertise this and especially don't take ti literally, but I know how you feel, and for my self I figured out most helpful in such a situation is just pulling down my shorts. I mean yeah, that makes it even more awkward and stressful and the nervousness until you get response feels like hell. But for me I figured, the summed stress is less in this 3 hours over taking all those worries with me for weeks if not even months. So I would straight out tell her how I was feeling.

@dhein Right now it's about starting contact on WA, I plan to confess when I speak to her in person

11:07 AM
Is there something specific you want to talk with her about?
I mean on wa

@dhein Uh, in light of the recent #metoo flood, I am assuming that 'pulling down shorts' was meant figuratively?

@JarkoDubbeldam: Thats why I lined out to not taking it literally. :D
Not to mention that I can't see how literally pulling them down, would help.... 0.o

@dhein Exactly, it wouldn't

@dhein starting contact again and asking if I could visit her (not a date just a normal visit)
I may be worrying too much (one of the reasons I asked it in chat)

[ SmokeDetector | MS ] Blacklisted user: How do I ask my dad's friend if he's interested in me? by user7441 on interpersonal.SE (@Tinkeringbell @dhein)

11:16 AM
wow... now I'm worrying that I worry too much

@SmokeDetector good bot

A better question about my nervousness might be: how to prevent nervousness to someone you love (on whattsapp)

11:40 AM
Why not just write it like Tinkeringbell allready supposed?
@Termatinator like "Hey, how are you? Mind meeting the next days again? :)" copy paste done :P

(copy, paste, translate, done (lol)) it's about the rest of the conversation @dhein

12:00 PM
Which rest? Why there has to be more? finding an appointment? You need to specify what exactly you mean. Or at least for me, to understand that.

well, just what comes after, I think that "Hey, how are you? Mind meeting the next days" is not enough

@Termatinator Have you visited her recently?
How long ago was the last visit (sorry for disappearing btw, I had to go to a meeting. Completely forgot the time!)

@Tinkeringbell no, not recently
@Tinkeringbell pretty long time ago

Ah, so you're nervous that 'let's meet up' is a bit too much to ask right now ;)

Ahhhh. but wasn't it just 2 or 3 weeks?

12:09 PM
well, a conversation at the beginning or after asking would be better
@dhein talk more about months

Ahhh, ok that changes things. But in the post you made 1 week ago you said its 2(or3?) weeks ago you last met, didn't you? Its somewhat a difference.

Did I, I remember it differently, I'll check right now
" If I don't visit her, sometimes we might not speak for a month." direcly from the question

@Termatinator: Dunno, I could be wrong too. Anyways. if you too are as close to each other as you describe and you enjoy meeting each other but might have trouble in holding verbiage contact and finding verbiage topics... I still think you don't need a conversation to ask her to meet.
But that might also just be due to my direct behavior.
Anyone else wanna add something?^^

I think a 'hey, I haven't seen you in months, our last meeting was fun. Want to meet up again sometime soon?'
Is perfectly fine
The conversation will follow, don't worry. You'll at least have to pick a date to meet up ;)

Exactly my point! :)

12:19 PM
We don't live close (reason for conversation) nervousness (opinion-based reason for conversation). These are my reasons for the conversation. I just think it isn't complete without a small conversation, ask her what she has done in the last few weeks, for example (you do got a good point, maybe one of the problems is that I am a perfectionist)

Social Interactions can't be made perfect. There are always things one prefers, another doesn't. But yeah sure ask her what she did, thats totally valid.

Q: Girl has my contact but I don't have hers

FFNLast week I went to an event and met a very nice girl. We talked a little, she was very amiable and I gave here my facebook so we could talk later. A week later, she has not contacted me in any way. Since she was working as a vendor on a store on the event, I'm thinking about emailing the compan...

^That.... "Hey! What have you been up to the last months? Do you want to meet up again sometime soon?"

@Tinkeringbell That's hard to do w/o contact info
Also, that kinda sounds like the reverse of the Nina/Mary story

@JarkoDubbeldam LOL... it was supposed to pop up underneath @dhein's message... Main man is being bad, interrupting our conversation
@JarkoDubbeldam It is.
Might even be trolling

Tssk, @Tinkeringbell giving answers in comments

@JarkoDubbeldam Nah, I'm giving my opinion :P

12:43 PM
(Which shows how bad the question is, the comment outlining why it is VTC'ed also being an answer)

and some clarification

@JarkoDubbeldam Tahdah! drumroll...

@Tinkeringbell Giving your opinion on a POB question is giving an answer technically

@JarkoDubbeldam Pfft... okay, have fun flagging it :P

I don't want to incite Catiya's wrath
:shivers:

12:47 PM
We could start arguing, that comment was just a clarification about the close reason, adding a comment what would be in most peoples opinion be best. So the answer in an comment is more of a comment as an answer x'D

@dhein Don't make my head burst... please ...

why on my avatar appeared a blue mark notifying me about flags someone made and asking me for ti being valid? 0o bug in accessing admin tools? Or some other feature?

Not my best comment ever, certainly not my worst. Yes, I felt like I needed to say a don't, just to prevent another #metoo popping up soon :P

@Tinkeringbell: I made even the admin tools head burst xD
x'D

A: How to ask your girlfriend to pay her share of the rent when she moves in?

UrquiolaLet's go Dutch is a kind, warm, and peaceful type of proposal?

what in the...

12:50 PM
well, the moment you can't hold back laughing at your desk v.v
I mean yeah, what the....

I have no idea what they're trying to say

What's 'going Dutch'? I'm Dutch and I don't get it.... What's wrong with being Dutch??

urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=go%20Dutch < this thing apparently is called "going Dutch"

@Tinkeringbell Well, quite a bit, but let's save that for the next zwartpieten discussion

How do you call it in the Netherlands? :D

12:52 PM
hahahaha wow >.<

@LinuxBlanket 'My treat' ?
@JarkoDubbeldam Oh... yeah... that one. I'm not going to burn my fingers on that.

>The Dutch were already internationally known as scrooges
I thought those were the Scottish

I've never seen the problem, I don't want them to have painted faces like cheese or stroopwafel but I can live with roetvegen

@JarkoDubbeldam ahah yes, I didn't know of this either

@Tinkeringbell: Ahmmm.... did I miss something?

12:54 PM
@JarkoDubbeldam Ebenezer Scrooge wasn't scottish right? That tale was set in London if I recall correctly?
@dhein Some Dutch culture... :P
Bit difficult to explain, it's a very hot iron here :P

in Italian we call splitting the bill "doing it in the Roman way"

@Tinkeringbell @Tinkeringbell and we have hagelslag

Hagelslagpiet?

kk xD But back to my question about moderator tools. getting a blue pop up about comments that had been flagged, is that a moderator tool? and either why, why I had this for a short period?

@JarkoDubbeldam Only the dark chocolate kind... not the 'vruchtenhagel'! :P

12:55 PM
also, is it just me or on IPS.SE there are a lot of Duch people?

here in germany we call it "split or together?"^^

@dhein I've never seen any of those, may be a mod thing, don't know where you got it... must be a feature

we dutch are weird people

@LinuxBlanket too much.. I came here to meet 'other cultures' :P And I'm stuck discussing zwarte piet again :P
@Termatinator Speak for yourself! I'm a perfectly normal Dutch person :P
Not saying that an American might say I'm normal, but I'm a normal Dutch person

@Tinkeringbell Hah, mission accomplished

12:57 PM
@Tinkeringbell normal or normal for dutch

Yeah, I mean I never saw such a cute sounding slogan on a cigaret box here in germany. "Rooken is dödelig" xD dödelig is a german childish word for being stupid. So funny!^^

okay I googled zwarte piet and it left me more confused than before

@Tinkeringbell you could say you're locally normal :D

@dhein errrrr

12:57 PM
I love zwarte piet :P

@LinuxBlanket Basically it is a discussion between an old tradition and blackfacing
Don't burn yourself on it if you can help it

@LinuxBlanket That's probably why there's so much discussion about it...

we don't mean to be racist, we just like that tradition

A couple of years ago the UN made some comments about it, and ever since there is a yearly facebook shitstorm about it somewhere start of the autumn
Whenever kruidnoten hit the stores people are reminded of it

@Catija: Is it a moderator tool, if I have here in chat a blue mark on my avatar notifying me about flaged comments? If so, Why I had like 10 notifications of Spanish stackoverflow? xD
