@DavidW I don't think so.
All of these posts are at risk of their images being deleted on May 15th, 2023 due to an Imgur ToS change.

Q: Did Eliezer Yudkowsky read the original Harry Potter books?

Rand al'ThorThis question has been asked on Reddit but without getting any properly sourced answer. Apparently there is a rumour on the internet that Eliezer Yudkowsky, author of the Harry Potter fan fiction Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality, had never read J. K. Rowling's original Harry Potter ser...

@Mithical I left one of those links because it appears to be an attribution link to someone's imgur gallery. As I read the announcement from imgur, those aren't expected to go away.
(thumbsup) attribution links are good

Q: Would a Particle accelerator assisted fusion engine possible?

MichaelMy understanding is that exhaust velocity is super important in calculating the efficiency of an engine. Mass ratio = e^(DeltaV/Exhaust Velocity) Therefore if you wanted a super efficient engine for constant acceleration/deceleration travel while minimizing the amount of fuel you need, increasing ...

@Mithical Well, that explains all of them popping up on the homepage. :-D
Sorry, that's a side-effect of the process. :)

Does someone want to write a meta post about it? I don't have time now, but if someone (@DavidW) wants to it might attract more people to help and / or allow bypassing the "flooding the homepage" guidelines

Q: Was cortosis-weave introduced in 2000 or 2002?

FuzzyBootsWhile amending my answer to Why didn't the Clones use vibroblades to fight against lightsabers?, I came upon what seemed like an inconsistency in the Wookieepedia article for cortosis-weave. Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, released in 2002, is noted as the first appearance of cortosis-we...

@Mithical Did I miss anything? Should I refactor it as separate question and answer? (Q: What do we do about... A: Here's how to...)
Actually, now that I think about it, should I rewrite it as a self-answered question instead of just a discussion post?

Q: Rehosting anonymous pictures hosted on Imgur because of Terms of Service changes

DavidWImgur has published new Terms of Service to take effect on May 15th. Of specific note for us is: removing old, unused, and inactive content that is not tied to a user account Historically it was fairly easy to upload content to Imgur as an anonymous user and link to it from a post here. It's ...

@DavidW I don't fully understand what's going on here, but that meta post seems fine.
But, if you want to propose a mass editing event for this that's not subject to the usual guidelines about flooding the front page, you should say so explicitly, either in a second meta post or in an answer to that one, and maybe ping a mod to feature it.
Is that necessary here? How many posts are we talking about?
17:17
The query currently lists 152 affected posts, but I've done 3 of those and it's possible that Mith's changes aren't accounted for either. If we're talking 5/day for 2 people it's possible but a bit of a chore.
It's at least an order of magnitude smaller than the edit event you reference, but it would be nice to recruit at least a couple additional helpers.
It's also fair to warn the community that it's happening...
Oh yes, definitely worth a meta post about this already, and thank you for writing one up.
I'm just trying to understand the scale of the problem and hence the scale of the required solution.
I guess bit by bit over the next month should be OK, if it's only 152 posts.
That's what I figured; in a crunch I could likely do it myself without exceeding 5/15 unless traffic crashes, but I'd rather not have to.

Q: Was Douglas Adams's 42 inspired by Robert Sheckley's Answerer?

Rand al'ThorRobert Sheckley's short story "Ask a Foolish Question" is about a sophisticated machine called Answerer which can answer any question but only those that are "valid", questions posed in terms that are suitable to lead to true answers. Queries like "what is life?" bounce off it uselessly, as it ca...
