Q: What is this old sci-fi movie?

TraceyWhen I was very young(1963-9) I saw this movie where aliens dropped from trees & chased people. Looking back aliens looked like canister type vacuums with long "necks". Im thinking it was black & white. I do not remember anything else but it was very scary to me! Thank you for your help.

Q: What are the warp nacelle fins for

Mat NXThe Enterprise, both TOS, DIS and Kelvin has 3 fins on the back of its nacelles. On the Kelvin-Enterprise, these actually open when the ship goes to warp, much like the deflector. But while the deflector aleays had a very clear purpose, I don't think I've ever heard anyone mention the fins, espec...

Q: Contacting aliens - "we must love each other or die"

Pastychomper thanks MonicaI'm looking for a short story written before 1998. Telepathy had been discovered and early experiments picked up thoughts from distant alien civilisations, which were vast and highly advanced. The aliens were unaware of Earth and nobody so far had found a way to make them hear us - human thoughts...

Q: The Expanse, which books follow the end of the TV show?

user431806Simple question: there are 6 seasons and 9 books, does each book roughly equal to 1 season ? Does this mean you can basically jump into book 7 if you have watched the show, but havent the read books ? Does the story in the books diverge from the show ? -thanks

Q: Is there a list of all "Inconsistencies" in WH40k?

Mrc4t987Given that all WH40k lore is written by multiple authors, it is normal that once in a while there are some contradictions between works, is there a list of all these inconsistencies, has GW ever has to speak up about what it is and what's not canon?

Q: Polar explorers find failed alien colony

Pastychomper thanks MonicaThis is one of many stories I read in the 90s. A father and son team were exploring under polar ice on Earth. The son was about 14 but had finished his education, thanks to a small, implanted computer that augmented his brain. They discovered the preserved body of a humanoid alien. Its hands had ...

Q: How did Bill the Pony survive in "The Lord of the Rings?"

BillFanOn the road to Moria, the Fellowship released Bill the Pony, who in my opinion is the true hero of The Fellowship of the Ring. At the end of the series, Sam is reunited with Bill who made his way back to Bree. How on earth did Bill make it back safely to Bree? There were orcs and wargs all over t...

Q: Short story told in second person - nuclear metaphor

AndrewI'm looking for a story that's told in the second-person - "You are doing this" etc. At first it seems mundane, but then it us revealed that all the characters, including you, are wearing backpacks filled with dynamite, everywhere you go, burdening you with discomfort as well as with the risk of ...

Q: Author and Title of a SF story from 60s, most probably read it in Fantasy and Science Fiction, possibly Analog or If

user9856753 male astronaut-explorers land on a new planet about a mile away from an obviously artificial construct, a massive cube. Each starts setting up his equipment for the surveys they need to make. The first to finish rides over to the cube and just sits facing it, in full view of the other two back ...

Q: Ray Bradbury story from the 1950s, effect of nuclear war on Americans in Mexico

user985675This story is neither Bradbury's "The Highway" (though I think it likely that was an earlier, and much weaker, attempt to deal with this story's theme); nor is it Thomas Disch's "Casablanca", which dealt with the same theme, but in a much more personal manner. What made this story so brutally eff...
