Q: Is the Tigris in Mockingjay the same Tigris as the one in Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes?

SilvermidnightThose who have read Mockingjay and Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes know that someone named Tigris appears in both of the stories. What I don't know is if she is the same person in both stories, or if it is a coincidence and both share the same name. Can this be clarified, please?

Q: Can shields be raised at warp?

Sovereign InquirySometimes in Star Trek, ships are seen firing at warp in a high-speed chase. One example was Star Trek: Into Darkness, when the Vengeance fired phasers on the Enterprise at warp, causing catastrophic damage. Another example was in DS9, when a runabout fired phasers on a Dominion fighter, destroyi...

@DavidW I kinda like it, having them all marked as read, as soon as I clicked one, automatically was getting annoying

Q: English Teenage / Children's Sci-fi series about girl clones, available from the 2000s at most?

MaladyIt had at least two books, and three clones, the (third?) of which was "The Evil Twin" of the eponymous book / sequel. Could've been "The Evil Clone". The mother of the first-seen clone gave up her eggs, was a surrogate, or something and that's how she gave birth to Clone 1. Not sure where Clones...

@AncientSwordRage I guess it depends how many you get at a time. If it's more than 3 I'd imagine it's hard to keep track, but for me it's normally 1, occasionally 2.

@JohnRennie I think I've sorted out the mess with those two questions, give me a heads up if I've mucked something up though. For future's reference though you should be able to edit and vote to reopen to get things as they should be yourself though I get it can be a bit easier with a mod involved

@TheLethalCarrot Thanks :-) I did vote to reopen the newer question and to my surprise it reopened - I guess that was due to the gold tag badge though I didn't realise that allowed a unilateral reopen.
But I couldn't do anything to revert the edit the initial closed question.

As in it wouldn't let you edit it?
@JohnRennie Gold tag badges allow one (of each) unilateral reopen and close per question, it can be pretty handy, especially on story id questions

Hmm, it should have allowed me to edit it ...
@TheLethalCarrot Ah wait, now all three questions are open and two of them are duplicates.
Let me take a step back.
The initial question asked about two stories - call these A and B.
That got closed on the grounds of lack of focus, which was fair, and the OP was asked to post the questions for each story separately.

@JohnRennie Your flag only mentioned 2, didn't realise there was a third haha

The OP did post two new questions, one for each story, making three in all, but then they also edited the original question.
So now questions 1 and 3 are duplicates.
What I thought was we should revert question 1 to the original post, then leave it closed.
That way we just have the two new, well focussed questions open.

9:13 AM
Ah I see, so the original is kind of pointless now as the two new ones superseded it asking about the individual stories separately and in more detail

Yes
So I thought we should revert the first question to the original post then close it and pretend it was never posted.
OK, I see you've done it.
Sorry for the mix up - I shouldn't post before I've had my first coffee of the morning :-(

I haven't had my first tea yet either
I'll go sit on the sidelines for a minute until I've warmed up haha

My brain will start functioning after the coffee - promise :-)

I can make no such promises

Q: What's known beyond the Milky way in Warhammer 40k?

user2820579I've been looking for information about what is beyond the Milky way and the empire of man in Warhammer 40k, without much success. Specifically I would like to ask: 1) if there's a map of discovered regions, 2) habitants of the outer galaxy, 3) what is known from the point of view of mankind, 4) ...

Q: Are the witches in Oz completely not human?

releseabeIn the case of the Wicked Witch she has not only magical powers but is extremely different "biologically" than a human or indeed any mortal creature -- melting due to having water thrown on her is the only example I can think of but that is enough. Is it explained in any Oz book what the nature o...

Q: What's the retcon for what Leia says in her R2-message, given the events of Kenobi?

AakashMIn Kenobi (2022), a key plot arc involves Leia and Obi-wan This takes up much of the season, and the tone of the last episode suggests that Obi-wan will now be staying on Tatooine and focusing on Luke, rather than involving himself further in Leia's life. So it would seem that this is their la...

Q: Short story about a soldier inside the Trojan Horse?

espindolaaIt describes a crowded space, the soldiers standing shoulder to shoulder and whatnot. It reads like soldiers on the shores of Normandy or something similar but, at the end, it is revealed that it was actually describing the soldiers inside the Trojan Horse.

Q: In the Return of The King movie, why does Gandalf cough while smoking?

OrlahmSo this is a minor nitpick, but it's been bugging me for a little while now. In The Fellowship of the Ring, we can see that Gandalf is a casual pipe smoker; he seems quite adept at it, even able to create a ship with his smoke. Even Saruman calls him out on his "love for the halflings' leaf", so ...

Q: Looking for a children's story, bird with backwards feet

ZenzizenzizenzicThis was a story I read in a school book of multiple stories, in 1979 (2nd grade). Details I remember was that the main character collected "odd animals", including a bird that had backwards pointing feet so that hunters would always track it the wrong way (this was important in the end, as the ...

Q: Movie about a spaceship capable of absorbing other spaceships

WiktorI vaguely remember a movie about a rocket ship that could open it’s hull front to absorb other rockets. The tip of the rocket was a mechanised cone split into 4 separate door shutters, similarly to the face of the demigorgon from Stranger Things or the sand worm from dune. It was flying about in ...

So for some reason I thought that Fëanor and his sons took an oath to not rest until they get the three Silmarils back. But it seems that that's not quite what their oath said. They took an oath to not rest until their vengeance strikes everyone who possesses a Silmaril. The Silmarils are lost. That should mean that Fëanor and his sons can now rest, the oath lying dormant, until someone takes serious effort to recover a Silmaril?

Q: How to regain measurement units?

Ri DiImagine youre in deserted island. You will eventually need to know how much there is of something or how long is some thing. Is there a way to get all main measurement units (kg, m, °C, m3, etc.) somehow? I know water freezes at 0 and boils at 100. Also G=9.8 and pi=3.14159. Also probably I could...

Q: Manga where man is followed by spirits that are gods

tdog8881This is what I remember about this manga. I read it a couple months ago. In this manga the main character I believe is a summoner that summ...

Q: I am looking for a collection of Sci Fi short stories, I can remember two of them rather vividly

James WatkinsSome years ago, never mind how many, my mother gifted me a thick volume of sci-fi short stories. I vaguely remember the dust jacket being covered in greenery. Q: Short story - US and USSR "trade" cities after accidental bombing

AndrewThis is a short story I read in the 1980s in an anthology. It's a satirical story inspired by "Fail Safe", I think. In the story, US bombers accidentally destroy a Soviet city (Leningrad, I think), and the US offers the Soviets the opportunity to destroy an equivalent US city in exchange - but w...
