If I'm reading the data correctly, it seems that Star Wars is the only one where new movies have a major impact on question quantity. — Alex 1 min ago
@TheLethalCarrot I wonder if that explains this:

Q: What is the secret behind Mad-eye Moody's eye?

AyushBhattMoody was one of the most grumpy characters in Harry Potter, the most experienced after Dumbledore and yet he was also one of the most mysterious. His eye though, was the most mysterious thing about him. Why is there no canon mention about the origin of his eye anywhere? Speculations and canon ac...

Q: How does this artefact work in WW84?

WoJThe crystal stone in Wonder Woman 1984 grants wishes, with a twist: Diane gets Steve back, but slowly loses her powers Barbara becomes powerful, losing her "soul" (it is difficult to estimate the rate of this loss) Maxwell gets the power of the crystal, slowly losing his health various people th...

@Alex @Alex Perhaps. Marvel has had two new films every year during the site's lifetime, so it's hard to see the effect of most of them; Star Trek has TV series ongoing all the time. Game of Thrones, however, has obvious blips for season 4, 6, 7, 8.
And Marvel has a blip in 2019 spring either because there were three films released then or solely because of Avengers: Endgame.

Q: Was 2008's City of Ember really a "once-in-a-generation" or "once-in-a-lifetime" adaptation of Jeanne Duprau's work?

Bryan SeeCan The City of Ember be denied a second chance, i.e. a new screen adaptation / a TV series / streaming screen adaptation, because the 2008 film was "once-in-a-generation" or "once-in-a-lifetime" after gained a cult following despite its box office failure and will remain as a "once-off look into...

@Randal'Thor, sorry to bother you, but this user is only 12 years old, when the minimum age required to use SE is 13.
@AyushBhatt You can flag a post, flag -> in need of moderator intervention and then detail the issue, link to the account as well would probably be helpful

Is there a standard for markdown? Normally I just ctrl+i or ctrl+b to insert italics or embolden and it puts in the asterisks needed, but with the new markdown it seems you can use underscores as well. Is there a specific preference or does it not really matter so much?
Doesn't matter, and underscores have always worked I believe

Ah lekker, good to know
@TheLethalCarrot, will do. Thanks!

@AyushBhatt Thanks, handled.
@fez Depending on how I want to emphasize something, sometimes I will use underscores and sometimes I will use asterisks. :)

Greetings, Earthlings.
@Donald.McLean Ahoy!

Q: Science fiction book involving AI augmented humans, a vampire, a colonised planet, a massive living blob, blind human pilots, and more

Owen SpeddingThere's a series of books I read, probably 10 years or more ago, that I just can’t seem to pinpoint. The timelines jump about a lot, so it’s hard to figure out the order, but here are some things I recall: A) there were AI augmented humans (I’ll call the haimans like Neal Asher) B) there was a ma...

@JackBNimble Thank you!
@JackBNimble Do you think it's worth a blog post to announce SFF's new topic challenge program? I was thinking to write something up and increase the cross-platform publicity.
Then maybe monthly topic challenge round-up blog posts? Or would that be too much and flood out other blog content?
I don't mind it for now.
We don't have much content, although I am planning on writing a few things.
Do non-SE people actually read that blog?

@NapoleonWilson Even one of the blog admins is no longer an SE person.

Q: Story about a boy from a cold world, who comes to Earth through a portal

Juan-Marie BowerStory about a boy coming through a portal to Earth. The Sun burns him and a girl hides him, until he breaks free and returns to his own world. She follows him to a cold world, where she is cold the whole time. I think the male character is called Charn.

@Randal'Thor And Mr. Edge is going to check out the SciFi.SE topic challenges? ;-)

@NapoleonWilson Maybe passive readers will enjoy them even without contributing.
Wasn't there someone who wrote a blog post without ever having an SE account? Or at least without ever posting on SFF.
Heh. Story-id is a habit; I just did one on Ars. :)

Q: Mirrors reflecting heroes' images in the mirrors. It was as if they were trapped in another dimension

David TargetI sometimes think about this book that I read sometime in the late 1980s. It was a story about four or five teenagers / young adults who traveled between dimensions, although I seem to remember that this was involuntary, at least at first. The most striking memory I have of this book is the cover...

Q: Was there any influence/inspiration of “Mortal Engines Quartet” series by Philip Reeve on “Carnival Row”?

Q: Movie about a magician, with a love story element

RO_AxelI am looking for a movie ...not sure about the year...maybe 80-90's. In my country, on TV, the title was translated as "The Magician", but it does not exist under this name. The main actor was kinda looking like a young Micheal Ontkean (Harry Truman from Twin Peaks)..same dark, curly hair. I saw ...
