Q: Early 20th century magazine story in New England with monsters

Vogon PoetSuper dark and dreary story like reading Edgar Allen Poe but not in prose, and many strange names. Much of the story around the WWI period (but don't remember hearing about the war in the story). There was a good bit of old english and references to the 18th century settlers in a decrepit rural v...

@VogonPoet "midget" is usually considered pejorative these days.

@DavidW It wsa in the original. I'll change it to "little person" ?

3:54 AM
It was quoted in the original, using the book's word, which isn't necessarily completely okay but is a bit less problematic.

Q: Short story, localised disaster on ocean planet with floating research stations

moopetI can't remember if the protagonist was a man or a woman, but I think it was a man. He was on a planet (mostly?) covered in water where people carried out research on floating stations. A woman is standing naked at a ...

I agree that scifi.stackexchange.com/q/221418/4918 should be left open, because most or all of Terry Pratchett's books are SFF. And I think that sounds like something Terry Pratchett would put in a preface.

@Stormblessed They wouldn't be able to use chat anyway. Also, I'm on strike :-P
@Stormblessed Gravatars are generated as some kind of hash from ... email address, I think?

9:35 PM
@Randal'Thor I thought superpings have some sort of thing that gives them chat access?
How’s strike going?

No; a superping will create a chat profile if one did not previously exist, but write access for <20 rep users still has to be added manually for each room.
