Q: Who was powering Zalasta's spells at the end of the Tamuli?

Allan MillsOne of the points that is made through the series though is that pretty much all the magic in the world comes from the Gods and that casting magical spells is basically accomplished by praying to them. The only exceptions being Klael, Bhelliom and, by extension, Sparhawk. Sephrenia makes some cla...

Q: How to ask a good (Western comics) story-ID question

StormblessedCopied from Valorum's guide's question on video game identification. > The specific contents can be decided on in a separate question, but this would help. If nothing else, it would help establish guidelines for asking story ID questions.

This says how we should request that.

> If y'all can come up with specific guidelines for asking questions in specific tags, we can put those in easily enough
Ask for specific text we can implement

So I should write a specific question
Ok let’s talk about it
What should it have?
I think it should be like

Oh wait it’s not just books

Just ask what the popup should say and the answers can decide on the exact wording

I think with these things short and streamlined is an important mantra, that's also what I got told by Shog9 when he implemented it for other sites.
In light of that, welcoming in all honours, but the first sentence is pure fluff. And the last sentence might use some stripping.

Those aren't about what is either, they're about what goes in which category of sci-fi or fantasy

Is this for the pop up?

Yep
We can have links in it
@Mithrandir what're Literature's thoughts on story-ID? Do they like it over there?
Do we not have one big, comprehensive description of what's SF/fantasy to send new users to? I can't find one

@NapoleonWilson agree with that. People don't always read popups so better to leave that out, or put it at the end

@Stormblessed meh, good luck finding a short definition

Like it's all on hundreds of different pages!
> When did you view it — "When I was younger" is not helpful
@Jenayah Is that good? Is the last part unnecessary?
Also is this good:
> The type of media — Was it a book? A movie? A TV show?
Awkward wording, but I want to explain and be specific without locking out non-book/movie/TV things

@Stormblessed Probably people think "meh, do we really need another medium-specific ID question help post?" but accept that the answer is OK.

4:07 PM
Hi Rand, is it ok that I ping at you a lot?

@Stormblessed 2015 is "really old"? Spot the newbie :-P

@Stormblessed Gee I knew I knew one but took me a lot of time to track it down
Fantasy: impossible persons, places, things, or happenings, without pseudoscientific explanations. Science fiction: The same, with pseudoscientific explanations. Hard science fiction: science fiction in which some bit is worked out according to real science, e.g., an orbit is calculated. "Horror", "adventure", "humor" etc. are plotted on a different axis. — user14111 May 7 '16 at 1:33

@Stormblessed There isn't really one, because we don't have a definition of what's sci-fi/fantasy.
@Stormblessed Yes.
@Stormblessed No.

But then again that's a very blurry definition.

5
A: Should the help center explicitly define "fantasy"?

Rand al'ThorNo, because we don't have an "explicit definition" of fantasy. The scope of this site is science fiction and fantasy, or speculative fiction, but we've never pinned down an exact rigorous definition of what any of these terms mean. Doing so would be difficult and divisive at best: no definition ...

We don't have a clear definition of what sci-fi and fantasy mean, and that's very much by design.

4:11 PM
Well there are so many metas it’d be confusing for a new user to try to find out
Like all the stuff with inanimate objects like snowmen moving is weird and outside of here would be called fantasy

@Stormblessed You already ask so many questions in here - it'd be even more annoying with pings on all of them :-P

Any feedback? I’ve got no responses except 1 DV
