@Jenayah If I was hard-pressed t provide a difference I would say that "supernatural ability" simply connotes something beyond normal, while "superpower" connotes the defining characteristic of a superhero.

Q: How closely did When Worlds Collide authors pursue the physics of the catastrophic damage and planet trajectories?

uhohAfter writing this comment I thought of the 1933 novel When Worlds Collide co-written by Philip Wylie and Edwin Balmer. South African astronomer Sven Bronson discovers that a pair of rogue planets, Bronson Alpha and Bronson Beta, will soon enter the solar system. In eight months, they will p...

A: Is it acceptable to use an NSFW word in a question?

Rand al'ThorI already saw this question and its edit history due to a flag last night, so I've had some time to think about it. Here's my proposal for some general guidelines to cover situations like this. It's OK to use NSFW language if that's an important part of the question. E.g. for story-ID questi...

But that only deals with questions, not answers.

47560575: - I'd assume would be magical-type powers, which are not necessarily powers the person has, but more "favors" granted by an external entity (like Doctor Strange invoking the Vishanti), whereas would include innate abilities of individuals, whether natural, in-born abilities (mutants, aliens), or abilities gained through accidents or experimentation (see Spider-Man, Hulk, Captain America).
^^ @Jenayah
@Alex I'd assume that NSFW language is acceptable in answers under the same criteria. That said, given the rest of the answer, it's difficult not to see it as gratuitous in this case.

@RDFozz Likely true, but it seems like an interesting coincidence that the question that got an answer saying he's saying was actually asking what a character was saying when the speech bubble was a grawlix.

@Alex mmmmhhh...

@Jenayah Keep in mind the "hard-pressed" part.

@RDFozz that kinda holds... Though it's not that intuitive :p

Q: A post-apocalyptic world set in North America, where some teens get captured by a biker gang holding up at a zoo

AfezI read some of this (written in English) at the latest, 2014 in British Columbia, Canada when I was in middle school at Grade 6-7. It could have been a series, or 1 book. I don't remember the cover. The protagonists are young adults, the book was for young adults. The setting is post-apocalyptic...

Q: A time travel novel featuring 2 kids, starts in a railway station

MoltresI read this in my English textbook about 10 years back, just a small part of a novel, as it was mentioned there. It starts off with 2 kids (a boy and his sister, probably twins) getting off at a railway station and finding out the station and the environment seems rather old-fashioned. As they t...

Q: Can only humans be witches or wizards?

Lio ElbammalfObviously Hagrid was half-giant and half-human so it isn't limited only to full humans but what about a full giant, for example? Does a creature have to have some human blood to be a witch or wizard?

Q: Did Deacon's prosthesis have any "special features"?

JenayahThe first generation of Animata, animal-machine hybrids, was comprised of Mimi (cat), Tango (dog), and Deacon (ram). While obviously their prostheses were replacements for lost limbs, they also had "augmented" functions to facilitate the Animata becoming a new kind of order: Wintermute has fing...

Q: Why doesn't Bucky just block his ears when being read the verses?

KyloRenIn any of the movies that Bucky Barnes is in, one question I have , Why doesn't he block his ears or say, "la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la,la," when the superiors are reading the text from the books.

@Alex aaaw, I'm afraid none of my answers got downvotes... </boast> :P
but if you'd like, I can downvote two of your questions and upvote another... (kidding :P )

@Jenayah I guess I could also downvote another answer (one of yours, just for that boast) and then suggest a tag synonym or excerpt and get +2 if it gets approved.

@Alex all that without getting upvoted in the meantime

Q: humans born insane

Story searcher 38373635343I read a story a while ago about humans, as a race, leaving Earth and searching for intelligent life. One day, they pie...

Q: Are there other half-breeds in Harry Potter?

Alex DownsI can think of a couple: Half-fairies (offspring of a human and a fairy) Half-mermaids (offspring of a human and a mermaid) There was even a story of a girl who wanted to be with a merman, but society forbade it, so she turned herself into a whale or shark, but if she had children with the mer...
