And the seven hours old answer wasn't removed?
post deleted or stuff

No. The next three times I clicked it it took me straight to the seven hour old answer.

dangit
still, care to link the question? :)
That's a mystery I'm more able to investigate than the Talmud commentaries :)

@Jenayah And more likely to have an answer.

@Alex aye
though no repro so far

@Jenayah Of course, it's possible I imagined the whole thing...

5:05 PM
@Alex that would be called a CKI bug... The most common of them all :)
(Chair/Keyboard Interface :p )
eighth layer of OSI model also applies

@Jenayah Good thing you explained, because I was looking at "Cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor protein".
A cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor protein is a protein which inhibits cyclin-dependent kinase. Several function as tumor suppressor proteins. Cell cycle progression is negatively controlled by cyclin-dependent kinases inhibitors (called CDIs, CKIs or CDKIs). CDIs are involved in cell cycle arrest at the G1 phase. == Examples == == References == == External links == Cyclin-Dependent+Kinase+Inhibitor+Proteins at the US National Library of Medicine Medical Subject Headings (MeSH)...

Q: Linking to /?lastactivity breaks when that activity is on second or greater page

CatijaWhen viewing posts by recently active, the last action can generally be linked to directly by clicking the "answered/modified" link. For example, the "answered 5 hours ago" text circled here: Clicking this takes you to the link https://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/312850/the-second-draft-o...

^ maybe

I guess my googling skills are not as good as yours.

@Alex it's more of a programmer joke :p

@Jenayah That sound s similar, except two things.

5:08 PM
exact phrasing may vary depending on individuals

1) it only happened one time. 1) it led to a different answer rather than the question.
@Jenayah I haven't the foggiest idea what that is...

@Alex it's basically a pattern of layers you go through when computers communicate
there are seven layers
each layer communicates with the layer above and the one below
the "last" one (the seventh) is called the "application layer" and it represents what should be done with the applications/softwares
so basically the seventh layer will "report" to an "invisible" eighth layer which is the user
so when you say the issue originates from the 8th layer in OSI model it's just another way of poking at the user :p
just like the chair/keyboard interface

@Jenayah At least chair/keyboard is somewhat self-explanatory.

@Alex granted

@Jenayah Though you did provide a good explanation for the other.

5:23 PM
@Alex mmmh... it's the outlines, I did skip stuff

@Jenayah I wouldn't know the difference.
Unrelated, can I ask you another French question @Jenayah ?

@Alex sure

@Jenayah In the following sentence is there any indication of what the sin is:
la précaution n'était pas inutile, et la rapidité avec laquelle maître Germain se retira prouva qu'il n'était point exempt du péché qui perdit nos premiers pères

@Alex possibly
the way I read it, Germain drawing back quickly and it being regarded as a "sin" along what the "old fathers" would do indicates that maybe the "old fathers" (deans?) were prone to jumping to conclusions or something
although I'd like the full sentence if you have it :)

@Jenayah It's from my question on Literature:

Q: What is "the sin which ruined our first parents" in The Count of Monte Cristo?

AlexThe opening of Chapter 12 of The Count of Monte Cristo describes a meeting between Villefort and his father Noirtier, on which a servant apparently attempted to eavesdrop. The passage (translation from Chapman & Hall 1846 with my emphasis) reads as follows: M. Noirtier – for it was, indeed, h...

5:37 PM
@Alex I almost followed that! I guess my rusty French is not completely gone.

@Donald.McLean It's definitely better than mine.

Another example of the kind of precog that Alice from Twilight exhibited. Not a Wikipedia link because neither the author nor any of her books have Wikipedia entries even though she won a Phillip K Dick award: jeanjohnson.net/theirs-not-to-reason-why

@Alex I looked up the original French and it reads more like Germain is disrespectful of others' privacy
though granted, since said privacy was taking place in a bedroom, it could be that Germain is a perv, so yeah tracing back to the lust, original sin and all

Wow! My question has a bounty posed!

5:47 PM
@b_jonas on SFF? I don't see it

@Jenayah Thanks. Just wanted to make sure there weren't any nuances in the original language that were lost in translation that might have given a more specific hint to what it's referencing.

then again @Alex in the previous scene, Villefort made Noirier wait for quite a time, so since it's bound to be a son/father discussion it might just be disrespect without any metaphor
@Alex then again I'm not a literature student

@Jenayah No. That's the funny part. It's my only question on Super User.

@b_jonas obligatory "Skype is a pain, get Discord already"

@Jenayah People have commented that. But don't I already address that in the question? I'm using Skype at work on the work machine because that's what the co-workers are trying to use. They're even trying to force me to use some online software service that looked even worse than Skype the last time I looked at it.

6:01 PM
@b_jonas Framatalk?
the quip about Discord was just for the running gag
and as for the actual question... I have no idea :/

You know, one of those things that wants me to sign away the rights for my first born child and everything we do at work for them to use in any way unconditionally, with their software handling all the fiddly details of uploading that if I just click through the agreement.
At my previous job, I managed to convince my supervisor not to use a certain piece of software like that that they were planning to use: that one was some verison control integration thingy that wanted them to own anything we commit to the version control repository. Here my chances of talking them off are probably less, since it's a less techy company, and since it's not that clear of a case.
But even if I do, I'll have to spend a few really uncomfortable hours reading through the stupid legal agreements just so that I have positive proof for why I don't want to use that service, even though I know in advance that they have such a rule somewhere, I just might be unable to locate sufficient proof.
It's tricky, because they always have blanket clauses about how they can modify their service agreement at any time, and by continuing to use their service, I implicitly agree to the modified agreement, and then they modify their legal text once every week, and obviously you don't have the time to diff the modifications to find when they add the nastier clauses.
They always phrase those terms in such a way that they have a right to modify the agreements to suddenly start charging any amount of money for us using their service. That's the lesser danger, because they sure as hell won't be able to actually enforce that, but it may sometimes be easier to point that out than the shady clauses on intellectual rights.
Not that SE is much better, but still, for a work project there'd be much more private business details they share with them than what I choose to do on SE.
@Jenayah No
@Jenayah The ones I'm talking about aren't voice chat or video chat software.

Q: Was Brienne of Tarth in love with Renly Baratheon?

AryanaBrienne was in Kingsguard of Renly, and she always wanted to avenge his murder, and she was successfull. But when she was telling about the childhood memories to, she said Renly danced with her on an event while other people mocked her before. The expression on her face portrayed that she was in ...

oh okay!

6:16 PM
And the problem is, I don't want to read those stupid legal agreements on my own time, but it's hard to read them in company time when we're so busy.
And, while the bank and mobile phone companies etc have similar terms, those are based in Hungary, so I'm more easily protected by laws than with a foreign-based country.
I think I should tell my supervisor the particular story about why we didn't use that other service, to help her understand.
Understand why I'm so reluctant to use this online service that is.
I don't want to personally sign an agreement where I personally claim to give them rights to all sorts of property of the company and its project.

Q: Why does Supergirl's ability vary so rapidly from one moment to the next?

user3282375This has been bothering me for a while now. A great example is in the latest episode (American Alien), she is flying around the pla...

Q: Late 70s/early UK supernatural drama with an alien sitting on a bed

DuncI can remember a drama shown on a Sunday night, at around 9pm, which featured an alien creature sitting on the end of someone's bed. I think it was set in Victorian times. The alien was semi-transparent and looked like it was made from perspex. I think it looked like a cross between Skizz from 20...

Q: Could Rumpel Stiltskin possibly be Shrek’s Wicked Fairy Godfather?

Alex DownsKinda like how Maleficent is to Aurora in Sleeping Beauty or how Dama Fortuna is to Fiona in Shrek 2. I mean, he DID (unintentionally) teach Shrek about how great his life is.

Q: Do other half humans tend to keep pets?

Mr. Dancing Man Harry sped on, staring around, and soon the dwellings became more numerous; there were gardens of weed around some of them, and he even saw a pet grindylow tied to a stake outside one door. Q: Story ID ? Energy globes flatten everything, turn out be be warp bubbles of starships from another dimension

Martin GoldsackI read this in the early '70s - I'm not sure if it was in a proper anthology, or just an extra story added in to pad out a short novel to proper paperback size. Set in England, mysterious globes of energy had begun appearing and crushing everything in their path before disappearing again. The m...

@Jenayah The truth is, though, that especially on a site like this, my questions aren't the sort that need answers. If I don't get an answer, I'll just remain with a question on a work of fiction. It's more about the process of articulating a question, and seeing if people agree with it, and seeing if we can get into a debate about it, and seeing if I missed anything when reading the books.

Q: Sci-Fi book identification

John SzalayMaybe you guys can help me remember the title of a book I read over 30 years ago back in middle school in the early 1980s. It was a science fiction book. I don't remember any character names. Just a cloudy recollection of the events. The MC for some reason gets modified (willingly or not?) by a ...
