Q: In Primer, how do you physically get in the box?

SciFanSo I've watched a couple videos and I think I have a pretty firm handle on the plot structure of Primer, but I'm still confused about some of the details about time travel. Suppose it's 4:59pm and you're planning to enter the box at 5pm with the intent of getting out at 9am. You have a double (s...

thegreatjediThe Galactic Republic and Empire's armoured units are represented by the iconic All Terrain series. Examples include the AT-RT, AT-TE, AT-ST & AT-AT. Q: A handicapped werewolf story definitely not by Steven King

JeffI am asking a question that may have gotten buried or was confusing again in a clearer way. The story was written before 1972 and probably in the 1960s or 1950s. A werewolf is confined to wheelchair lived with his mother who helped him find/subdue victims.

A: Heirs of Godric Gryffindor?

NickNew news: an heir to Gryffindor has surfaced as a McLaggen ancestor who is going to be a part of a new film! She is a descendant of Gryffindor and shares the name of Cormac McLaggen which leads us to believe that Cormac is even a great descendant of Godric Gryffindor himself.

This one isn't.

@SQB then so is the other one.

@ibid that's legitimate (if silly) question: "is this work canon?" What makes it silly, is the fact that "this work" in this case is a fanfiction project that was actually sued by the copyright holder.

It's a legitimate question, I'm just getting tried of seeing questions/answers on SFF that imply this particular fanfilm should be "canon".
We don't even consider the official movies to be "canon".

Does anyone know what Rick is talking about? I don't remember any of that in Wells' The Time Machine, and couldn't spot it on a skim just now.
Have none of you read H.G.Wells' The Time Machine (1895)? The protagonist is constantly trying to go back and fix the events that led to his fiance's death but his fiance's death is what caused him to build his time machine in the first place. The author also published the Chronic Argonauts in 1888 and talked about time travel extensively. — Rick Ryker 2 hours ago

(is trying to find it on my Kindle)

...he may be confusing it with an adaptation. Shmoop says:
> He befriends one of the Eloi, a woman named Weena. In every movie adaptation of this book, the Time Traveller and Weena fall in love, but in the book it's not so romantic. We're not sure exactly what's going on between them, though (check out "Characters: Weena" for more on that).

OmegacronObviously Time Lords can regenerate, essentially granting them 13 lives in total. And we know that all Time Lords have this ability. Well, I think that's that for The Time Machine:
@Shokhet - I think I recall that storyline is from a more modern adaption. I don't think the original had it, I think that time-traveling was purely for science, but if it's in an adaption it would be easy to confuse for the original. — Megha 3 mins ago

@TheDarkLord I bet there's a SEDE query to check that.

I just wanted to give a little notification.
Comic-Con is in two weeks, and Phil and Kaja Foglio will be there (as usual).
I’ve got a question that might need some direct author contact, and that would be a perfect place to do it. (There’d be a bounty available, of course).
Is anyone here going to Comic-Con?

@Gallifreyan Googling SEDE suggests it's either a reference to the Spanish for headquarters or the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Security and Defence.

@TheDarkLord I meant the Stack Exchange Data Explorer.
It's the entire database of Stack Exchange, and one can traverse it by writing SQL queries.

@TheDarkLord Hi! :) I've seen you around the site, you were the first person to ever comment on my answer!

I always forget, how can a tag be renamed? Mod action?

9:05 PM
> Users with more than 2500 reputation and a total answer score of 5 or more on the tag, can suggest tag synonyms. Users with a total answer score (total upvotes minus total downvotes) of 5 or more on the tag, can vote for tag synonyms. Suggestions will be automatically approved when they reach a score of 4, and automatically deleted when they reach a score of -2.
It's usually easier to just get a mod to do it, though.
As a question on SFF meta.

@Catija Yeah, but I want the existing tag to be a synonym to the new tag name. I can't do that, can I?

No. You'd have to create the new tag, remove the old tag... there's not a ton of questions, anyway... (4) I recommend you don't create a synonym, to be honest. Just retag the four questions with the new tag and let the old tag die.

@Catija I was thinking people would try to recreate the tag, since the movie is apparently known as Twelve Monkeys and not 12 Monkeys in some markets. Does a tag die once it has no questions?

That post doesn't actually posit what to do with the existing tag anyway.
@tobiasvl yes, after 24 hours with no questions, the tag will go away. That doesn't prevent people from recreating it. If there's concern for people searching for twelve-monkeys, you should, instead, have a tag that reads twelve-monkeys-1995. The current tag shouldn't be automatically a synonym as it could be used incorrectly.

@Catija Hm, OK. Not sure I got that. The movie is called both "Twelve Monkeys" and "12 Monkeys", so they don't auto complete to each other and can therefore be tagged wrongly. But "12 Monkeys" is the original title.

9:16 PM
Hence me saying that the correct synonym for is not simply .

Ah! Then I get it.
I'll just do it myself then. I can just nominate the synonym too, people would still have to vote for it, right

No, I need 5 score in the tag to suggest a synonym, hehe

Are questions about theoretical situations that never took place on-topic? I think so but I'm not sure.

@Bellatrix Situations in works of science fiction and fantasy have rarely taken place ;) What do you mean exactly? They might fall under "primarily opinion-based", but it depends how they're theoretical
