What would happen if someone rejected their Hogwarts Invitation Letter?
Would the same thing that happened to Harry occur? With thousands of letters flying into his/her house?
So I'm curious on what the community thinks about the latest hot question being edited
From
Have there ever been 25 or more stars on Wonder Woman's panties?
To
Have there ever been 25 or more stars on Wonder Woman's satin tights?
The edit really doesn't make sense. Wonder Woman has a...
He takes their bodies as his last one wears out. As the story goes on he feels anxious. He's not sure, he might be the only alien of his kind left on earth. He begins to feel divided somehow. Then, a major duel with someone who knows what he is. He wins the duel -- but as the story ends he re...
I am looking for a story which I read probably two decades ago, in the 90s, but which was probably already old at that point. I think I read it in some kind of anthology, in English, and in the USA.
A substantial number of children are the result of some kind of virus which caused infected women...
Really sorry for my long absence from chat. First I was away doing stuff IRL, then stuff hit the fan in Mos, and when I came back (as well as being busy catching up with things IRL) I had to try to sift through the history and work out exactly what had happened and how and why. I didn't want to come barging in here until I had some clear answers for you. Well, I dunno how clear they are, but I've now talked to a lot of different people about what happened and started to kinda make sense of it.
I think the most important lesson for the future is: please don't be so hostile to moderation when it happens. That covers both soft and hard moderation, by both community and ROs/blues. Whether it's flagging, asking for a subject change, or deleting messages, please try to accept and learn from it rather than complaining about censorship, power abuse, or flag trolls.

Regardless of how you or I may feel about it, them's the SE rules, and we have to abide by them or go elsewhere. We need to pull together and make an effort if we want this place to succeed where Mos failed. I can't guarantee we'll manage - I thought we were doing well before, and look what happened - but I think I can at least see what direction we should be pulling in.
And with that out of the way, on to happier things! :-) I hear the theme of the month is robots, so here's your floof of the day:
It seems, that in The Hobbit movie (Battle of Five Armies), Thranduil leads a impressive force of Mirkwood elves to reclaim his treasure in Lonely Mountain:
Also Dain's army is featured:
(The Men of Dale probably didn't have an impressive force as compared to Mirkwood and the Iron Hills then...
@Edlothiad I'm not aware of those needing any special policy. Any "Is the theory 'X did Y' correct?" question is equivalent to a "Is there any evidence about what X did/how Y happened?" question that's obviously fine if it's clear and specific enough to answer.
This is something that was never clear to me when reading this (my absolute favorite) book.
Can rabbits understand what the humans are saying?
They can communicate alright with other animals (mice, seagull, cat, apparently not with a dog, though). What about humans?

From what I saw in Age of Ultron and Civil War, Vision accepts his view on what is right and what is wrong might be incorrect, if his current beliefs cause putting innocent people in harm's way. So, he does the best he can in order to protect others. And in the first Thor movie, Thor also realize...
This'd be like saying "We need a dark fantasy SE because they don't come up often enough." But it's on topic here, so you'd get the same or less visits.
Furthermore having a SE that's a subset of another doesn't make much sense. From what I can see all comic books should be on topic on lit, whether they are or not I don't know.
They shouldn't ban tags based on the content it's from. That's ridiculous. You have to create guidelines. If comic books are considered literature, then ALL comic books should be allowed.
I don't see where all this comes from - I never said comics were off-topic on Lit, and I certainly advocated making comics on-topic on Lit. I just said that there is a thin line between graphic novels and regular comics, and the latter may not be a good fit for Lit given the audience there.
To make it clear I am not against new proposal but I feel comics proposal add nothing new to the mix and the counter argument answer is based on personal feeling and presented as facts
@Edlothiad probably yes, yet I think that many would deem "childish books" not literature. Anyway, not an user on that site, so I don't really mind what they decide, nor shall I try to influence any decision.
@Gallifreyan In that case you should let the people decide. Not decide for yourself. The issue with comics.se is that it's mainly a subset off SFF.SE so your userbase would be a fraction of ours.
Comic.SE overlays with: - Anime & Manga - Literature - Science & Fiction AT LEAST. Could also overlap with more sites in specific cases (example: Monster Hunter manga... is that OT on Arqade?)
Sadly, the way Stack works there are many sites that overlays "but not completely"
Sliders 2x08 Post Traumatic Slide Syndrome at the end we see 2 Prof. Maximilian Arturo's fighting it out for who was going to slide, When one of them is able to jump leaving the other behind. The one left behind says "Oh My God" in shock implying that the one who jumped is very likely not in fac...
@AnkitSharma Oh, you're quite right: SFF is sort of a dupe site now. But for people like me who specialise in sci-fi or fantasy, it's still a scary thought for this site never to have existed.
@AnkitSharma I haven't read the whole conversation here in detail, but I seem to be agreeing with you here.
@AnkitSharma This is the point that I'm trying to get across. It's understandable if you were now creating something that's not covered elsewhere. Like M&TV covered more than SFF did, and Lit covers more than SFF does. However comics covers nothing that already exists. And maybe you'll collect the users into one place, but how much good does that do you with the realistic aim of breaking out of beta? Considering Lit has yet to break out of beta.
There's probably a "make a quick buck" Minecraft board game. There are novels, which are on topic both here and on Literature, there's Lego, there's — of course — the video game.
So yeah, there's overlap.
@AnkitSharma I strongly disagree with that, as there are loads of comics besides the on topic here superhero comics.
@Edlothiad The Peanuts, Garfield, Spirou, Gaston Lagaffe, Spike & Suzy, Maus to name just a few. Also, would Lit cover the artistic side of comics? What size did Franquin use to draw at?
@AnkitSharma Also, what about the cartoon adaptations made of comics? Are those on topic for Lit, or do I have to as on MTV? What if I have a question covering both?
@AnkitSharma you have not read many comics if you think most of them are SF or Fantasy themed.
The only redundancy would be between Anime and Comics.se, but the other way around, since Anime is — more or less — a form of comics, a style, so Manga and Anime is a subset of all comics.
@SQB What would it add that M&TV and Lit couldn't provide? Look at lit the top users are SFF users. There are loads of M&TV users here and loads of us there.
@Edlothiad I don't know, @Catija, would it be on topic there?
@Edlothiad Why MTV? That would ignore the newspaper vs. comic books part of it.
@Edlothiad Perhaps, I'll give you that.
But still, the scattering of these questions among the different stacks, proves my point. These would all be squarely on topic on a Comics.se, should it exist.
@Edlothiad Yes, the animated cartoons means a TV show. But I'm interested in the differences between the three panel Garfield comics found in newspapers, and the later one-page-gag comic books as well.
Pet Force is a series of books for young readers. It is a spin-off of Garfield, in which the main animal characters of the comic series are portrayed as comic book superheroes. The action takes place on planet Polyester.
20th Century Fox has released a computer-animated direct-to-video film Garfield's Pet Force.
== Story ==
In another universe, one which exists parallel to Garfield's own, a team of five superheroes known as "Pet Force" serve Emperor Jon as protectors of his throne. Ruling the galaxy from the planet Polyester, Jon's reign is constantly opposed by the evil Vetvix. When Vetvix uses...
I suggest the following guidelines (improvements welcome):
If it's marketed as SF, it's on-topic.
If magic, futuristic science or technology, alternate history, or other sf-nal concept is an important part of the overall plot, it's on-topic. (Alice in Wonderland, Clockwork Orange, etc.)
If the ...
@SQB someone told me here that if in one franchise , if even a single film show SFF or fantasy element whole franchise become on topic. I am not sure if soemoen was trolling me or was that serious rule
> Yes, it should be. Friday the 13th VI onward are explicitly supernatural movies, and Friday the 13th I - V are ambiguous, to which we have traditionally taken a "when in doubt, it's on topic" approach. - scifi.meta.stackexchange.com/a/9907/6006

I was reading this story 8-15 years ago and i was reading it in german.
Im not sure but i think the book had 2 short, totally different stories in it.

Can anyone remember which book had Hermione telling people about how the Ministry or Hogwarts sent someone to talk with her parents about the whole wizarding thing?
It's really embarrassing that I can't find the quote myself.

I'm asking due to this question:
When were replicas of Green Lantern's Power Battery and Power Ring first produced?
Is it considered on-topic to ask merchandising questions about an on-topic work?
Did they have all the actors lined up for Wonder Woman at the time?
Is the photo identical or was it subtly modified between the two movies?
Was the scene meticulously recreated for Wonder Woman, or was set already constructed at the earlier time, or were the props and scenery stored and reused?
First, a preface: I’m not at all familiar with any of the previous Wonder Woman continuities. I’ve never read or seen anything from that franchise at all.
In the new Wonder Woman movie, an explicit, humoristic point is made of the fact that Diana and the Amazons are excellent polyglots (though...
After reading about the hubbub over this question, I started to wonder what the stars on Wonder Woman's outfit even stand for. It's set that Jedi are not allowed to have children, but can they be considered godparents to someone else's child? I've been looking for a pulpy sci-fi book for literally 20 years with no luck. Maybe now is the time? I only read part of the book, but the part I remember goes something like:

I think this is probably a golden age short story by a notable author that I read in the 1970's in an anthology. Set on an alien planet colonized by earth men. A man is walking alone on a road at dusk or night. I can't remember if he set out on foot or his vehicle broke down. The road winds t...
I know it's not a story I'm trying to identify, but it's the closest place I can find to ask. I'm trying to remember the name of a toy I had as a kid (in the late 1980s or early 1990s), and have never heard from since (and lost somewhere along the line).
It seemed to be a Transformers/GoBots/Etc...

There has been so recent debate regarding stars on Wonder Woman's outfit:
