Q: How were the ships in Passengers reused?

Michael GantzI think source material might be sparse and I'm not sure if there is more than the original screenplay. In Passengers we learn the ships travel to a colony and back to earth. In the movie this cycle takes at least 240 years. We also learn the ships make multiple trips to different colonies. I...

Q: Are there any other Force users remaining in the galaxy by the time of RotJ?

thegreatjediIt has been repeatedly asserted by official sources that as of Yoda's passing, Luke is the last Jedi in the galaxy. Of course, in accordance to the Rule of Two, Darth Sidious and Darth Vader are the only Sith in the galaxy, and upon Anakin's redemption, the last. Besides the three mentioned abov...

Good answer by low-rep user deserves some up votes:
1
A: Can the cursed crew of the Black Pearl feel pain?

Erin ThursbyPain isn't actually mentioned by Bootstrap, as per the quote. But lack of human contact, long term, is psychologically bad for the human mind, and sensory deprivation is actually a way to break someone. As to the sword screams--I would sometimes put that down to moonlight, or lack of. Notice th...

A: How Did Dumbledore Know to Summon Winky Before He Knew Barty Crouch Jr's Identity?

parallaxPerhaps the simplest answer is from Dobby - "Dobby, what're you doing here?" Harry said in amazement. "Dobby has come to work at Hogwarts, sir!" Dobby squealed excitedly. "Professor Dumbledore gave Dobby and Winky jobs, sir! "Winky?" said Harry. "She's here too?" Harry Potter and the G...

@SQB I did not go to Scarlet Canary last Monday (I actually think it was set for Monday). My son graduated high school the Friday before and I spent the weekend hosting a party and the entire weekend herding a flock of teenagers (all nice kids, but still ... I wanted to be present for my son's celebrations). I was exhausted! :))

Q: How do restraining bolts work?

thegreatjediBased on ANH, I'm guessing that restraining bolts prevent a droid from straying too far from its owner. How does it achieve that effect, and what would happen if the droid tries to go out of bounds?

Q: Why does Varys help Tyrion escape but not Ned Stark?

KyloRenVery simple question, why does Varys not help Lord Stark escape when he knows he is a very noble person and would serve the realm in a fair fashion, but eventually helps Lord Tyrion escape. So why does Varys help Tyrion escape but not Ned Stark?

Q: Why is the Gayatri mantra used the BSG opening theme? Are the Cylons or the Colonists Hindu?

einpoklumI (recently) watched the Battlestar Galactica TV series. It is steeped in religion and religious themes - the dialog and thoughts of characters, the objective events taking place, and the Colonists' and Cylons' culture and, well, religion as described in the series. Now, I was quite impressed by...

I'd post her Daenerys cosplays, but they're too NSFW.
Somewhat controversially, she also did Triss:

Q: RIP: Adam West, star of Batman

ValorumAdam West, star of the 1960 Batman TV series has passed away at the age of 88. @Gallifreyan Hmm?
Are you asking why it's not "The Watchmen."
@Adamant Yes.
"The Avengers" - why not "The Watchmen"? And yet the name of the film and graphic novel is "Watchmen".
what's the question?
@Ixrec Why not "The Watchmen" instead of just "Watchmen"?
(I'm considering to post this as a question on Lit, but wanted to see if it makes sense.)

why not "Avengers" instead of "The Avengers"
Exactly? Why not?

Rest in peace to by far the best person to ever play Batman. https://t.co/3L1CyKf0zG
(Not mine, but I agree).
@Gallifreyan because The Avengers are a team. "Watchmen" is impersonal. "Here we see some watchmen."
@SQB May be, I don't remember if they were ever called "Watchmen" as a team.
I'll be back after reading the graphic novel, and watching the film, again.
SQB
SQB
That's my opinion. But I wouldn't be surprised if Alan Moore chose that name very carefully.
18:32
They're certainly not a team at the time the main plot of Watchmen takes place. I can't remember what if any team name they had back when they were a team.
@SQB No, I didn't. How did you find it? I find that once I pick an answer, I forget to revisit my questions.

@Mithrandir click on the "edited <date and time>" link in the middle bottom of the post, just above the avatar/username of the user that did the last edit

No,, not the revision history
The time line is something different.
replacing "revisions" with "timeline" in the URL seems to work
meta meta is telling me there is no way to get there in the actual UI yet

Q: Should we make a tag for "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" What should it be?

GallifreyanI've noticed we have some questions with the blade-runner and with the phillip-k-dick tags1, which are actually not about Blade Runner, but the original novel. I tried to create a do-androids-dream-of-electric-sheep tag, but predictably ran into the 25-character limit. These are the questions t...

Q: Short story about a doctor who can hook up his pain center to patients'

BuzzI read a short story in the early 1990s (which I think had been relatively recently written), about a physician who diagnosed patients by wiring the pain center of his brain to theirs, so he could feel what they were feeling. Doctors trained that way were looked down on by other physicians. The...
