8:04 PM
Anyone wants a Diaspora invitation here?

Jin
@Raphink is that the facebook thing?

yes, but open-source and federated

Jin
i remember them in the news, for fund raising.

@Jin Same here: I imagine they've been buried by Google+
(In interest terms: conceptually a different thing, of course)

Jin
i don't get G+
i mean, i like it. it's well designed. but I just don't know what to use it for.
I use Facebook for real life friends and family only. twitter for professional/social purpose..
G+? I find I only "tweet longer" on G+ with my existing twitter friends.

8:09 PM
@JosephWright: Diaspoa is actually just launching
Got my invite today
Might not get huge, but it's got its audience, similar to identi.ca vs twitter

@Raphink Ah, that might be it then :-) I certainly read about it some time ago in my favourite PC magazine - must have been at the concept stage

Ideally Diaspora will replace Facebook

Ideally, Google Wave will replace everything
s/Google/Apache/

Jin
@Raphink Google Buzz forever!

I love my PS3/Wii/Xbox360. Reality sucks.
:-P

8:12 PM
oh!
@PauloCereda: just seeing our "comics sans ad" on the site now :-)

Jin

@Raphink Really?! Woohoo!

Jin
@Raphink I'll be very depressed the day I see our users create "clan tags" on our sites

clan tags?

Jin
8:14 PM
-=*{Raphink}*=-

Haha

haha awesome

Jin
you know, online gamers(FPS or MMO) add prefixes to their names, to indicate that they're in the same clan..

I use to see that quite a bit, on bookcrossing.com

Jin
or guild

8:14 PM
but just for decoration

Jin
I used to play FPS games online a lot. I always hated that, because it's so distracting

like ~*\/`~-= Raphink =-~'\/*~

The fateful day when StackExchange will have a word.sx site, everybody in here will be enlisted to a holy war against those infidels.

msoffice.sx you mean?
or microsoft.sx

yeah!

8:17 PM
like there already is apple.sx
and adobe.sx might follow, too

Jin
and sharepoint.sx...

§.·´¨'°÷·..×Paulo×,.·´¨'°÷·..§

Jin
@PauloCereda show off

@Jin LOL
@Jin Those are very addicting.

8:40 PM
just put a new Tex body on my son
In France, we have a brand of clothes labeled "Tex"
Sold in Carrefour supermarkets.
So I'm wondering if the TeX t-shirts might be misleading here...
(for textile)

Knuth doing sewing?

@PauloCereda We could misspell it as word.sucks. :-)

first he takes 10 years off to do a typesetting system, then another 10 to start a French clothing brand

@lockstep LOL, epic!

8:46 PM
@Raphink Interesting, in light of tex.stackexchange.com/questions/30326/…

yep
I'm pretty sure this trademark is registered here

@Raphink Probably
I wonder if that makes selling The TeXbook a bit risky in France?

I linked the transcript to the question

@NN Great

8:50 PM
@Raphink Phew, books about computer typesetting look safe :-)

@JosephWright: the trademark only covers clothes and such
but then, the tex.sx t-shirt...

@Raphink I'd hoped so, but some companies are pretty aggressive (but may of course fall down in court)
@Raphink Interesting point: does giving one away count, I wonder

look on the side of the page : "new commerce use"
;)
Also, the status (for the US) says "cancelled"

Can't we just say we pronounce it differently? Something like:
- Dr. Frankenstein...
- "Fronkensteen."
- You're putting me on.
- No, it's pronounced "Fronkensteen."
- Do you also say "Froaderick"?
- No... "Frederick."
- Well, why isn't it "Froaderick Fronkensteen"?
- It isn't; it's "Frederick Fronkensteen."
- You must be Igor.
- No, it's pronounced "eye-gor."
- But they told me it was "ee-gor."
- Well, they were wrong then, weren't they?

@PauloCereda "It's written Raymond-Luxury-Yacht, but it's pronounced Throatwabbler-Mangrove'
(From memory, so may be slightly wrong)

8:55 PM
@JosephWright LOL one of my favorite sketches of all time!
It's exactly that way!

@PauloCereda I do have the book of scripts :-)

"Gimme my nose back!"

@JosephWright: In France, it seems the scope of the trademark is very broad
and there's several logos, too

@JosephWright really? I have the DVD bookset. I wish I had the book of scripts.

@PauloCereda Yes, it's two volumes bound together back-to-back. I've had it for years
It has the character names in, even if they're not mentioned. Some are very odd
Well, very odder

8:57 PM
wow, I can imagine!

This trademark was created in the 90s
and it looks very similar to the TeX logo :'(

@Joseph: I also love Anne Elk's theory on the brontosaurus. :-)

@PauloCereda My favourite is Archaeology Today

@JosephWright ah there are some memorable quotes! "How tall are you?"

@PauloCereda When I went to the cinema to see Young Frankenstein, I remained to see it again.

9:12 PM
@egreg Really? I love that movie. Gene Wilder is fantastic.

9:28 PM
@PauloCereda I've seen it so many times since then, but it's always a pleasure to see it again. A masterpiece of all times. In its genre, of course: it would be nonsense to compare it to, say, "Stagecoach" or "Sunset Boulevard" or "Singing in the Rain" (other movies that I could see ad infinitum).

9:43 PM
@egreg Ah, what a nice list! I love all those movies. :-) I can't watch today's movies, most of them are basically a show of special effects, but without a single good line.

My wife and I like to watch "family" movies. Most movies today are boring ;-)

@egreg: it was quite a surprise when I saw Gene Hackman as the blindman. :-)
@Raphink Very true. :-)

So we mostly watch Christian movies, Pixar movies, or no movies at all (most of the time)

@PauloCereda That's a wonderful cameo.

@Raphink I watched "Up!" these days. It was so cute.
@egreg Indeed!

9:49 PM
I really like "Up!" @PauloCereda :-)
One of our favorite movies also is Ben Hur. We watch it every year for Easter.
We invite friends to share lamb and watch Ben Hur :-)

How nice!

@Raphink Nice movie, but Charlton Heston is terrible: one of the most inexpressive actors of all times.

I like him

@egreg: I watched an old Italian movie and it was very nice: I soliti ignoti.

10:04 PM

It's been a long time since I went to Carrefour. :-)

10:18 PM
Hello all: Is there a reason the chat link has vanished from tex.se?

Hi there!
@Canageek Every time we have a new blog post, the "chat" link disappears and the "blog" one goes in place. After 24h after the blog entry is posted, the "chat" link returns. ;-)
@Canageek: BTW I love your suggestion for a title: "Help me exorcise my demonic paper-eating printer". Epic!

10:45 PM
@PauloCereda I'm still goggling over the number of views that got! Sadly the only question I've seen on TeX.SX that I'm capable of answering had not one, but BOTH of the tools I use already posted.

1 hour later…
11:58 PM
Does anybody know if it's possible to use [plain] in a frame and also display the logo when using beamer?
