@Zanna I went ahead and made a branch with that rebase, and published it as a gist. This has every version of the scripts. See the "Revisions" tab. Gists support forking. You can also just clone that. Note that it doesn't have the SEDE queries.
Perhaps some of these messages--at least that one--should be moved to the Downboat.
@EliahKagan seems that can't be the answer though, since OP "suddenly got grub rescue" after it had presumably been working
It is at least not a correct answer, yes.
I have taken the appropriate action haha. But I do not think it is a "me too" (as the comment implies)
I don't think this post is an answer...
yes... not sure... but the topic seems Downboaty
@EliahKagan nice!
but why does it have a score of 6?!
@Zanna I just mean that stuff about the scripts should probably go there, because the scripts are being used for a cleanup project on Ask Ubuntu. I'll eventually try to figure out which messages should be moved (unless you prefer to do so). For now I think things can continue however, and maybe that will even give clarity about what parts of the conversation should be moved.
:)

I don't know. Maybe the idea is that it wasn't installable at the time because it was waiting on some dependencies? I don't think that's likely to have been a correct answer though.
I suppose it might be good to look more into the matter before deleting the post. Its anonymous/low-rep feedback is +9 -4.

@Zanna Although major dictionaries don't seem to list it, apparently it is a word. But it's unclear to me if its meaning extends to the way it was used in that post. The edit was good, I'd say.

@EliahKagan yes, the edit is what I was thinking I should change it to
dupe, though I wonder if it should go in the other direction or, perhaps better, if both can be duped to something else.

@EliahKagan We also have Difference between update servers.
^^ It generated quite a lot of interest so presumably a number of people encountered problems that could be described similarly. I think that without knowing if guest additions are installed (see comment) that it really isn't clear, though. Its anonymous/low-rep feedback is +7 -11.
dupe, but some of the proposed targets have been wrong - I recommend adding the second question linked in oldfred's correct comment... though I wonder if we have something more specific.

@EliahKagan :)
hmmm not sure
I think it would've been acceptable for me to have made my edit from the CV queue, but I avoided doing so, because the close flag there really should not be marked helpful.
I think this question should be migrated to Super User.
Though I'm not sure about the target site. The question might be well-received on Information Security.
@EliahKagan I voted to leave open after you and karel... I expected the flag to come out disputed but it came out declined
@EliahKagan that sounds good

@Natty fp Not just a me-too post. It recommends a workaround--though it would benefit from expansion regarding it.

is this question a dupe of this self-answered one or vice versa?
@AbhayPatil I think I may have expressed myself very unclearly in that comment. I hope that at least the linked meta post was helpful...
Questions like that get close votes/flags pretty often and I think a lot of people have the same doubt about what counts as "about Ubuntu" in terms of on-topicness. I get the impression that people are asking themselves something like "is this Ubuntu-ey enough?" but there's no need to worry about stuff like that - it's just is the system in use here Ubuntu? (which can be assumed in the absence of evidence to the contrary) If so, it's almost certainly on topic
18:57
@Zanna I'm talking about the not about Ubuntu subreason - other close reasons may apply...
@Zanna Yes Zanna, I was also a bit hesitant while marking it off-topic, because deep inside I thought it would have been a better fit for Unix and Linux. But this meta.askubuntu.com/q/14523/1067851 question did make me more aware of what is on topic. Thank you for that
welcome to chatroom @AbhayPatil
I am not sure what chatrooms are on Ask Ubuntu, or what purpose they server. Could some please give me a brief idea, I am a bit confused.
@AbhayPatil I am not sure myself so can I link you to the FAQ?

@jokerdino thanks for that link, I think now I am more aware of the purpose of these chat room. Cheersss
In case you're interested in details about the rooms that are associated with Ask Ubuntu... There's a room for general discussion of Ubuntu:

 Ask Ubuntu General Room

Normally: General discussion around Ask Ubuntu, Ubuntu & offic...
There's the room we are in now, which is for community moderation / janitoring / reviewing / site cleanup:

 Raiders of the Lost Downboat

Place to sail the open sea, and search out boats to take down....
Of interest mostly to people in this room, there's a room for off-topic and overly long technical discussions that started here. Messages are often moved from here to there, and occasionally from there to here. See also those links.
And there are various other rooms for other purposes. Frequently a room is created in connection with a specific question or answer, often to continue back-and-forth troubleshooting or some other discussion that started in comments. Here's a list of all the rooms associated with Ask Ubuntu.
Those who have username in blue font are moderators and those who have in Italics are room owners.

@EliahKagan I actually close voted that question as a duplicate, and it needs another close vote as a duplicate of "Can I skip releases when upgrading?"
