IS THIS WHAT YOU WANTED @KALINA?
@OrigamiRobot YES IT IS, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?
@SaintWacko I was hoping for a program I didn't have to install.
Since I'm at work and all.
@kalina I dunno, probably cry.
@OrigamiRobot GOOD
Hmm, there's a version of Audacity on PortableApps
15:01
@Powerlord Or this
@kalina I'll be sure to take a picture of my Skittles and send it to you.
@OrigamiRobot I'll be sure to take a picture of my... no I won't
2 mins ago, by kalina
@OrigamiRobot GOOD
@OrigamiRobot GOOD
INFINITE LOOP DETECTED
15:04
@Powerlord Are you trying to rip CD's, or doing something else?
Also, platform?
Soon it will be time for another fun-packed weekend of sex, drugs and violence!
4
well, maybe not so much violence
Are Skittles a drug?
@LessPop_MoreFizz Convert a few wavs to mp3s under windows
@kalina But GTA 5 isn't coming out for another...
Tonight's entertainment shall be bought to you by random acts of violence!
@OrigamiRobot no

Q: Why put staff on bridge/engine room instead of dodge/gun rooms?

DOOManiacWhat's the purpose of having red shirts on the bridge other than a better response to boarding parties? Would you ever staff them in the bridge instead of one of the gun rooms? Likewise, is there ever a reason to put extra engineers in the engine room instead of the dodge room?

Q: How long does Kusanagi's Wrath last?

galacticninjaInugami, a character in the Vendettas campaign has an ability called "Kusanagi's Wrath", described as "gives a short-lived invincibility after performing an execution". How long, exactly, does this "short-lived invincibility" last?

*punches* @OrigamiRobot
@OrigamiRobot Yes
Seeing what it's doing to @kalina, I think the answer is affirmative
@YiJiang'sEvilClone negative, skittles != drugs
Then my weekend will have none of those things.
I can't believe it is at least another 1 hour 24 minutes until I get more skittles
my life is over
This site has a team called "A-Team"
15:08
My weekend will be full of cars, movies, and MtG.
it only has four people assigned to it
@OrigamiRobot this doesn't sound like the most appealing weekend
I bet all you Americans are back to work on Monday as well aren't you
Oh, also fishing.
fishing ?
Yes, I will be voluntarily getting up at 4am to go fishing.
you are strange
15:10
Why? People fish.
no you're strange for getting up at 4am voluntarily
3
Oh, well that's when the fish wake up.
are you back at work on Monday?
And, once again, I agree with @kalina.
@kalina I dunno, I guess.
15:11
What UK holiday is on Monday?
I've already burned the Bridge to the ground, so I need something bigger to burn.
sets fire to Arqade
8
@fbueckert I always knew you and I would get on well in the end
@fbueckert Also soemthing @kalina would do.
@Powerlord I duno, all I know is I'm not working on Monday
why do I need to know what holiday it is?
@kalina We're nosy here as to why our UK contractors for my current project get the day off.
15:12
@kalina As much as I'm a "don't wake me up before the sun appeared" person, for greater good waking up at any time of day or night sounds like a normal thing to do. Assuming you consider murdering innocent fish a greater good, like I do.
Nov 27 '12 at 19:18, by OrigamiRobot
♫ @pixel and @fbueckert sitting in a tree. ♫ I dont know what humans do in trees so that's all I got.
@Powerlord May Day bank holiday I think
"Early May Bank Holiday" apparently
and then we have a late may bank holiday on the 27th
because this is the best country in the world for taking random days off
We were joking about it being Cinco de Mayo, but that's a US misunderstanding of a Mexican thing. Also, 5th of May is Sunday, not Monday.
@kalina That's Memorial Day for us.
@OrigamiRobot memorial day?
15:15
@kalina One of the few national holidays in the US that people actually tend to get off from work.
Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday which occurs every year on the final Monday of May. Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War. By the 20th century Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died in all wars. It typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end. Many people visit cemeteries and ...
It's a 3 day weekend, and is generally regarded as the ceremonial beginning of 'summer'
Memorial day weekend is a coveted target weekend for blockbuster movie releases, a weekend to hold cookouts and parties, and often the weekend when beaches, pools, and amusement parks open for the summer.
interesting
@LessPop_MoreFizz Or, if they're evil, and hate their employees, they open a month earlier, so us old people have to work while the kids are still in school >.>
sounds like you took a good concept and turned it into a super commercial weekend
15:17
@kalina That's SOP over here.
@kalina It's what we Americans do best.
My favorite was back when I worked in retail.
@OrigamiRobot SOP?
@kalina Business as usual, then
And when I would work on Memorial Day.
@kalina Standard Operating Procedure.
15:18
@kalina Standard Operating Procedure
And we wouldn't have a sale, unlike every other electronics store on the planet.
and people would come in and be OUTRAGED that we were not having a sale for memorial day
I'm glad I never worked retail.
And I was PERSONALLY DISRESPECTING THE TROOPS AND THEIR SERVICE AND MY FREEDOM WHICH THEY FOUGHT FOR by not giving them an iPod for half price on memorial day.
is it true that American retail actually believe "the customer is always right" ?
@kalina Management often does.
your country is so weird
@fbueckert -w
@kalina Somewhat. Management, maybe. But, often no, not really.
For the times that setting someone on fire would be inappropriate.
@fbueckert no, I refuse to visit this site again
Last time I lost a full day of my life
and read the ENTIRE site.
15:20
I'm glad in my job, in every situation, I'm right and the guest is stupid, and I'm right for their safety, and I'm right enforcable by law. BOOM
@kalina And therein lies the cultural divide. The North American sense of entitlement is huge.
@Powerlord The holiday is traditionally Mayday, but it's not known as that any more since bank holidays are becoming more secular.
@fbueckert oh the sense of entitlement is still there over here
we just observe that the customer is nearly always wrong
@Unionhawk what do you do?
and operate such rules as "if the customer treats you like shit, be snarky and hang up on them before they can respond"
15:22
@kalina Whether or not the business subscribes to that, the customers do.
@DanHulme Ride operator. So, literally, if I give someone an instruction, they're required by law to listen to me, or get out.
@fbueckert Well, there goes my whole day
@kalina I operate under, "If the customer treats you like shit, you get everything in writing, do only exactly what you're asked to do, and watch as everything goes to shit because the customer is an idiot."
@OrigamiRobot any customer that has ever been all high and mighty with me has been talked down with excessive quantities of sarcasm and baiting until they explode a huge mass of temper and look like an idiot in front of the whole world
In my job, I don't have to deal with customers
15:23
And get paid triple for being a mindless drone extension of the customer.
I haven't had to deal with customers for four years, now
@SaintWacko You're welcome.
sometimes I've even stuck up for people when I am the customer
@kalina I've never had a job where I deal with customers directly.
@OrigamiRobot my first job...
didn't last too long, had to leave there before murder occured
15:24
My first job was working in a warehouse.
A case of Skittles is heavy.
and in this job, I don't have to deal with customers but I occasionally do to save the less technically competent people from having rings run around them
and that's always hilarious
My mantra when I need to yell at customer service people is "I know it's not your fault, but it is now your problem, and I'm not mad at you, but I am very mad, so help me."
They also keep all the candy in a cooler room, so that's where I went on my breaks.
I still get blamed for everything, like, it's my fault that this lady's kid is too short, but I'm right, so, there's naught they can do about it.
retard customers telling me their aesthetic issue is business critical is my favourite one
15:25
@kalina "I'm good friends with upper management" No you're not. Shut up.
Damn my apostrophe troubles
@Unionhawk lol I've had this one, from both the customer AND upper management after I had abused the customer
getting pulled into an office and threatened with disciplinary action is HILARIOUS when you're in the right
in my second job some random phoned up for support for an FTP server "we hosted"
(second job was a bespoke software company)
didn't appear in any system so I told him to stop wasting my time and hung up
the managing director pulled me into his office and yelled at me, and I shouted him down with "do you want me to help every random who phones up? Because I can do that but it would not be very cost effective for you or your business. If you wanted this guy to be supported you should maintain your systems so that he shows up when he calls through. This isn't my fault, it's yours. This is bad management."
so he threatened to fire me, and I laughed at him and told him if he did I'd ruin his life for dismissing me without reason
@kalina NC is a right to work state so they can fire you for any reason.
@OrigamiRobot my contract of employment specifically stated "employed to support our products"
@kalina Niiiice... Management people are normally on my side. I mean, I've gotten one tiny little safety violation for accidentally leaving a gate open, and they weren't happy with me then, but normally, I'm right, and they know I'm right.
I was executing my role as per my contract
if he had fired me it would have been unfair dismissal, which would have gone to a tribunal
15:30
Honestly, by the time it gets to real management, they're not concerned with me, more, concerned with buying the guest's kids ice cream to make it up to them and to get them to leave.
@kalina Right, I'm just saying here, there is no such thing as unfair dismissal.
@OrigamiRobot we've established that your country is weird
@kalina It's a state by state thing.
Employees deserve as much protection IF NOT MORE than the people who employ them
@kalina It's state-by-state; Ohio is not a Right to Work state, for example.
But I won't deny that we're weird.
15:35
I'm sure employers can still get in trouble if things like sexual harassment are involved.
@GraceNote because you're locked out of that specific kind of taste?
@BenBrocka that's, like, your opinion man.
@badp Ah.
I mean, technically it's like being blind
except that of course the impact on your life is much smaller, esp. in western cuisine.
"Right to Work" is really one of the most offensive euphemisms the right wing ever created.
@LessPop_MoreFizz Yea, it really means the opposite of what it implies.
15:37
scratches head
@OrigamiRobot It means "UNIONS NOT WELCOME HERE" more than anything else.
The only things I know about unions are from TV.
@badp we're getting Americans to admit how messed up certain parts of their culture are
@kalina Suddenly I've decided that my right to understand is best left unexercised here so that I don't have to bog you with yet another ringing of the clue bell
@badp :p
15:40
@kalina There is no trick here. I will openly admit to how terrible people are.
@LessPop_MoreFizz LEGO Breaking Bad: I would buy the console required to play and definitely 100% play the game
@badp It is, yeah.
@OrigamiRobot it makes a change to @Ullallulloo doing his chest pounding and "MURICA THE BEST" thing
I'm actually having a hard time coming up with things that might trigger the acid sensors. Maybe rucola or soy?
@badp closer to color blind than blind blind
15:41
@badp fizzy drinks
I'd never pound my chest. That's a good way to hurt yourself.

Q: What does the shield icon mean after someone's online name?

SashleyI have seen a shield icon after people's name online but I don't know what it means. I know the crown is VIP because I have that.

Q: What's the secret of this room?

N1xXI don't know what I'm supposed to do here, I've tried in first person view but I didn't find anything.

Q: Is there a way to bypass the Steam region lock?

PropellerI want to check out a game but when I view it from Steam, it says: "This item is currently unavailable in your region" Is there a way to go around this limitation? Not simply by using a proxy to view the website but to actually get the game and play it?

@badp anything sour, I think
@kalina Same, although my excitement about it was undermined by how much I am instead in awe of Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon
NO SOUR CREAM?
omg life without sour cream :(
15:42
Down with sour cream.
down with paper robots
@LessPop_MoreFizz I didn't enjoy Far Cry 3
@kalina Neither did I, but Blood Dragon is just so over the top amazing.
I enjoyed Far Cry 3 until I was out of animals to murder for their skin.
After I upgraded all my stuff, I didn't wanna play anymore.
It is basically the rampaging cartoon obsessed id of my 6 year old self, transported directly from 1989 to today and turned into what amounts to a AAA standalone DLC.
@OrigamiRobot I am much happier killing humans than animals
...*even in games*
15:44
It is everything Duke Nukem Forever promised it could be, instead of everything DNF eventually was.
Also I am legitimately afraid of virtual sharks.
45 MINUTES UNTIL HOMETIME
I am virtually afraid of legitimate sharks
@OrigamiRobot I have this problem
I like upgrading things
I like upgrading things, I don't like slaughtering every animal in Africa to achieve it though
I much preferred the "collecting salvage from humans" approach of Tomb Raider
which if you haven't played yet, you should
I never had fun with a Tomb Raider game.
Double bacon pizza for breakfast is the best decision I've made all day
@Unionhawk breakfast pizza?
@OrigamiRobot don't let that stop you from playing the new one
15:47
It is exactly what's stopping me.
I too have never enjoyed a tomb raider game
the new one was good though
I have no reason to give it a shot.
I have never played a Tomb Raider game
I wasn't really a gamer when I was young
My first game system was the Gamecube
Weird, how did I end up with Metro 2033 in my Steam library
@Powerlord Not in this case, they have actual breakfast pizza, but, pretty much
15:49
THQ humble bundle?
@YiJiang'sEvilClone humble Bundle
Uncharted was basically what I always hoped a Tomb Raider game would be (but they never were)
@SaintWacko Stop making me feel old!
the new game is compared to uncharted in pretty much every aspect
15:50
More action and less puzzles in uncharted, but Nate doesn't move like a freaking tank
@Powerlord :D
@kalina I don't think Uncharted had that many QTE
My first console (well, OK, I shared it with my brother) was an Atari 2600.
@YiJiang'sEvilClone It has some in melee combat. Though I've heard negative things about the QTEs in Tomb Raider
@Powerlord Gamecube was also my first game system ever. And not because I didn't play video games when I was a kid either
15:50
@Powerlord my first PC had a clock speed of ~1.6ghz
My first console was an NES.
and was my first "games" system
My first console was the SNES
Actually, no, I had a Game Boy Advance before that (the original one)
my first console was a Dreamcast but I got it as it was taken off the market
15:51
@BenBrocka Precisely.
@kalina 1.6 Ghz? My first PC was like 8Mhz
I had a Game Boy before a NES
I played so much Wizards and Warriors.
@Powerlord ~2003
@Powerlord I was 10
or whatever clockspeed the 8086 (XT) was.
Oh wait, no, we had a Commodore 64 before that
15:52
I have never had an internet connection that I can call my own that wasn't broadband
My first 'console' was a GameBoy Advance. What, why are you all looking at me like that?
Never used dialup except out of curiosity
which was apparently 1.02 Mhz
I find the sound dialup modems make funny
Commodore 64, the only computer I know of that had
1. A separate disk drive.
2. A cartridge slot
3. Joystick ports
15:53
@kalina I didn't get broadband till I got to college.
@YiJiang'sEvilClone I'm not, that was mine too.
This turned against me when, long before I would learn I had this trait, I had my 6th grade science fair be "Let's test the acidity of apples!" because I just learned what Litmus Paper was and it was the COOLEST THING EVER.

Q: better games compatibility on Windows 2003

eadmasterI think i have setup all the basic stuff required for gaming: direct3d acceleration, disabled DEP on all programs, etc. but, some XP-compatible games are still crashing without showing any error: Sonic Heroes Billy Hatcher ... (others) Is there any system policy that could block them?

Followed by a Gamecube
MOVE OUT TIME
NES -> Genesis -> Playstation -> XBox -> XBox 360 -> Nothing
15:54
I've never played on a NES
For fun, hold down Z while starting a GameCube. For more fun, connect 4 controllers and hold Z on all 4 while starting a GameCube
I don't know what a Genesis is
I've only played on a Playstation using an emulator
@kalina MegaDrive
I bought a gamecube somewhere in there just because it came with the Zelda Collector's Edition.
MegaDrive is like, Sonic, right?
15:55
@kalina Yup.
I didn't even really get into computer gaming until around the time World of Goo came out
only ever played Sonic using emulators
I have played and completed the first three zeldas though
Before that I just played Silent Thunder, Microsoft Flight Simulator, and Star Wars: X-Wing Alliance
using emulators
So, today is apparently Day Against DRM 2013.
15:55
Every day is Day Against DRM
2
@Powerlord Alright! I'll pirate some games
3
I intend to use Steam even if they try to convince me not to.
Nobody has had a true Sonic experience unless it involves a folded up piece of paper wedged in the power switch and/or something under the power connection.
Steam and Origin are always running 24/7 on my PC
I think Steam is probably the least offensive DRM there is
15:57
@OrigamiRobot You had a pretty crummy Genesis, I guess.
ORIGIN! BURN IT!
@GraceNote The power connection thing was an extremely common problem.
@NightExcessive I have no issues with Origin
Sure, it has the usual problems, but in return, I can rock up to any computer, type in my username and password, and get my games on it, without having to carry disks.
15:58
@kalina I have moral issues with Origin.
@OrigamiRobot never heard of that one
@NightExcessive the only moral issues remaining with Origin are all petty
Unlike most DRM, which takes your abilities (like still using the software after upgrading your hardware) away from you without giving you anything in return.
If I go solely by consoles, skipping handhelds, that I remember playing (as Atari, whilst I did play it, kinda predated me-me) NES -> Famicom -> SNES -> Genesis -> N64 -> Playstation 2 -> 360 -> Wii -> Playstation 3
@OrigamiRobot Then I guess I had a not-so-crummy Genesis.
@kalina I don't find refusing to support EA and their ridiculous practices petty
15:59
@BenBrocka Everyone I knew with a Genesis had the same problem.
@NightExcessive I'm not going to let things like that stand in between me and Mass Effect
The power jack was loose and you had to tilt the connector. This usually involved propping it up on another cartridge.
@SaintWacko but can you upgrade your desire to upgrade your desire to upgrade things? It might be helpful if you didn't, actually.
@GraceNote Mine's easy, it's every major Sony and Nintendo console plus a Genesis, less the NES and certain mid-generation portables like the DSi and the non-pocket Gameboy
If anyone moved the console, it would power down. Much raging ensued.
16:01
I had a Game Gear with all of two games on it.
I had a Game Gear with only two games as well.
what is a game gear -.-
3
That one aside, four Game Boys, two Game Boy colors, two SPs, two DSes.
nvm I will google
Someone hit @kalina over the head with a Game Gear
16:01
@OrigamiRobot Were they the Sonic game and some X-Men game?
@GraceNote Columns and X-Men
Sega and Atari's portables were pretty terrible though
I could never beat Omega Red!
I also had a Light Boy to go with one of the Game Boys.
I've had a couple Game and Watch's. I suppose those count right?
16:02
@OrigamiRobot Don't remind me...
@badp I can't even remember what all watch games I had. I didn't have many but I had a few.
@GraceNote And the guy that got stronger when you hit him. I think it was Sebastian Shaw.
@GraceNote Same here. Maybe something Batman?
@badp Yeah, that should really be downgraded
@OrigamiRobot Actually that was probably the second boss I ever reached, if I recall correctly.
@badp I can only definitively remember that I had a Power Rangers one. Then after that it's confusing what was actually ours and what we played at someone else's place (this is why I'm skipped listing the Playstation and Super Famicom, which our cousins had and we played quite a lot for the months of visits we went back there).
oh I didn't realise there was a colour hand held gaming device that was older than me
I thought the ds was the first
16:05
@BenBrocka Death by Game Gear.
@kalina So naive.
<- not a console person
PC or be casual
There are... a lot of color handhelds before the DS...
@kalina pretends to be young by not knowing things: The Movie
In fact I'm pretty sure there are more color handhelds pre-DS than non-color.
yeah wikipedia says atari made one
16:07
Oh, who here had a Super Game Boy?
"NEC TurboExpress" ??
@GraceNote Do those single-game handhelds counts? Those had very limited graphics
@GraceNote GameBoy Color, Game Gear, GBA
@GraceNote I didn't have an SNES, but my friend did.
@Sconibulus The watch games I kinda classify in a major group of just watch games.
Since, betwixt them all, since each instance can only play a single game, it would be unbalanced to classify them individually as separate handheld systems, so to speak.
GOTTA GO APPLY FOR A LOAN BYE
16:10
You still have things like those big "100 games!" devices meant to work as a calculator and a gaming platform and all kinds of things, that since they're using liquid crystal displays they are also non-color, I had one of those. Mostly only really played Lights Out on it, though.
@GraceNote Oooooh I had that too.
The 100 games thing.
Lite Brite was my favorite color handheld system.
I can't even think of where that is. I can remember where it was two houses ago. Not the current house.
Turns out very many of the 100 games were actually Tetris
@badp So, so very many, haha, so true!
16:13
I'd like to say at least 50 but I might be wrong. I don't recall what the rest were anyway
@GraceNote I'm referring to things like this i.ebayimg.com/t/…$T2eC16FHJHYE9nzpcC-LBQuRpey0W!~~60_57.JPG
Lessee... we got the PS2 shortly before moving to SPFLD. Wii, 360, and the DSes were in SPFLD. Then PS3 and PSP when we moved to our new house.
@OrigamiRobot Do it.
@Sconibulus That's what I thought you meant.

Q: Do "game files" encompass all files of a game?

NiteCyperInspired by kotekzot's correction. What is a term that encompasses both "saves" and "game files", as kotekzot sees it? How else would you define "game files" as kotekzot sees it as mutually exclusive? I can understand what is meant, but I can't think of a handy term. I'm not sure whether this b...

16:14
@GraceNote Oh, those were watch games?
@Sconibulus There's probably a better term for them but I call them watch games at the moment.
@GraceNote What the heck is SPFLD? And please tell me it's pronounced Spleefed
Oh wait, L and F are in the wrong order for that
@BenBrocka It's an abbreviation for a very common city name in the US, and more relevantly my second me-me place of residence.
It's pronounced "S P F L D".
One of those things that's longer to say in voice than to write in text, but I don't mind because after so many years working with that abbreviation for job numbers and office organization, it's kinda just how I say it when I don't say the name itself.
what city name?
I don't know of any that are long enough to warrant a 5 character abbreviation
I didn't realise there were so many hand held consoles
16:20
@SepiaLazers It... doesn't belong on Meta, but it doesn't belong on the main site either

Q: How do I get more units?

Ronan FormanI've got roads leading out of three cardinal directions, a hall, 230 food and only 7 units. I also made my road intersect with my hall because I read that matters (picture below) but I'm still not getting any units migrating in. Is there anything I'm missing?

Q: Where is Lucia?

ElliescuffI really need to find Lucia (the orphan) and I can't find her anywhere. Can I teleport to her, or can she teleport to me? This would be very useful. And anyway, if you can't do that, where does she sleep at night? Because that's the reason why I want to teleport. Because I can't find where she is...

@GraceNote Lame. Cool abbreviations are either fun to say on their own (like SSD) or have awesome pronunciations like SCSI
@BenBrocka I kinda like saying SPFLD. It has a nice flow to it.
@BenBrocka technology without an interesting name
that always makes me laugh

BrianI've played through Fable, and I own Fable 3, but I want to know if the story will still make sense if I skip Fable 2. Q: Is there a way to get more skill-points than normal?

NiteCyperIn Borderlands, with the Game of the Year Edition, up to 69 skill points can be earned from a combination of levelling up, completing Claptrap's New Robot Revolution (DLC4), and completing the Underdome mission on both playthroughs. Is there a way to get more skill-points than from just those?

Q: What are some good hero-focused RPG style Warcraft 3 maps?

vertigoelectricI've been looking for some good maps for Warcraft 3 to play with my wife and sometimes also a friend.
